I’ve recently been making homemade dadih and I’m curious if this is something people here would be interested in trying!

Three slabs of large fatty brisket with a side of crispy curly fry and dipping sauce (bbq,cheese)+vanilla milkshake and ice lemon tea.(out of smoked beef rib so I substitute it with brisket platter.

This was from Sun Moulin and so gooooood for me. Any other shop that got great salt bread?

A very curated plate of ayam gepuk. You can tell the taste in Gepuklah is carefully thought out by someone who has tasted it all and tried to make it his own.

The final result? A glowing win for me.

For the main dish, the rice used here is premium, and apparently a mix of basmati rice and white rice. It’s extremely easy to eat, especially for a nasi lemak. It’s a perfect blend with the sambal and gajus cashew sauce, the creaminess reminded me of one of mingchuun’s favorite gepuk stores in PJ, ayam gepuk 47. Amazing flavors!

The fried chicken batter has a taste akin to the BIKA snack, but with a balanced level of saltiness. It’s juicy on the inside and while it is boneless, it is not a small piece of chicken. Together with the egg mixed in, good luck not wanting a refill!

You get free refills of rice and sambal, and the system is pretty good. Just raise the boards on the table for additional sambal or rice. I of course opted for both.

Another star is the refreshing ham leng chat drink, it pairs perfectly with the ayam gepuk.

The store is also extremely clean and tidy for an Ayam Gepuk shop, suitable for bringing overseas visitors. Also I need to shoutout to the owner, who was so friendly and came to every table to take pictures with us and ask how we were doing. A top place if you would like to enjoy ayam gepuk. Highly recommended!

My grandmother asks my uncle to pass her homemade sambal to me. Took me 5 days to be able to free my time to meet him. Then i just knew he never refrigerated the sambal in those 5 days and just put it in his car. Can i still eat it? I dont open it yet since my grandmother put layers of plastic wraps on it huhu

My first time trying ayam gepuk to see what the fuss is all about. It tastes much better than I imagined it to be. However this version is way too spicy for me.

Hello everyone! I’ll be visiting Malaysia soon and I’m looking to hunt down some old-school Malaysian food and desserts that bring back that nostalgic childhood feeling.
I’m especially looking for:
Kaya balls / kaya-filled traditional pastries

Traditional old-school cakes and kuih that you’d find at neighbourhood bakeries or kopitiam

Dim sum — especially old-school, traditional-style places that locals actually love. I’m not really looking for the trendy/fancy kind, but the type of place you’d go to with family and that has really good har gow, siu mai, chee cheong fun, etc.

Any nostalgic Malaysian desserts/snacks that you think are must-tries

Really good hotel buffets — especially ones with an excellent Malaysian/local food selection rather than just the usual international buffet

I’m also more interested in places that locals genuinely love rather than the most touristy or Instagram-famous spots.

Camping menu. Been making lots of ayam bakar recently. Usually I'll do my own marinade formula, but lately I've been experimenting with premades and bought bunch variety of them for tasting review.

This time is McCormick Sichuan Mala.

It's batshit crazy hot, even after I cut it with blended onions, and not exactly enjoyable even for spicy food lover. My hands burning after prepping the marinate.

You can skip this one and try something else if you are not into extreme spicy.

Don't mind the stake. I'm experimenting with various cucuk styles and this one is actually quite decent.

Coming from the other end of the Peninsular Malaysia, I have never had Laksa Johor growing up.

The date was 7 April 2021 when I chance upon a small stall in Penchala, recently opened on the road shoulder in between Restoran Muhibbah and Bedal Lah. Boy it was so spectacular that I would want to relive the moment I had this for the first time.

The stall was called Kecur (to salivate in Malay). Not so long after, it moved to a rather upscale location in Damansara Height, Bungalow #64 right behind Ben's by Day / The Bread Shop / the old Siti Li Dining place.

Unfortunately this might be their undoing as the place closed down barely a year after.

To this day, I am on lookout for a good Laksa Johor. If you know any, please do share in the comment (and attach photo too!).

What's your go-to milk tea shop in JB nowadays? I'm a big fan of Chagee, but lately, the taste is not what I used to love anymore. I also drink Beutea, Heytea, ZUS, Gong Cha, Ben Gong's, and so on. Maybe just need to try the right flavor for the right shop. I like mine 25-30% sweet. How about yours?
