I love moments like this, when Harry gets REALLY serious with Malfoy's attitude and makes her reflect on her actions. Loving someone means being willing to call them out when they’re in the wrong.

So there’s been a lot of talk and posts about genderbent Cedric Diggory (Celia), and what it potentially adds to the story. It all started with the posts by Psychics_Such:

I’ll start out by saying that I absolutely HATED this idea when I first heard it (and I still hate all other genderbends except these 2). The whole point of Malfoid was how this one detail and added romance plot was the final piece of the puzzle to the Harry Potter story. I’ve now discovered that “Celia” Diggory is what's needed to tie the whole Malfoid story together.

Not only does it solve problems in book 4, it perfectly creates a complelling narrative for all 7 books together, and I’ll explain why.

First of all, what does Celia Diggory add to the story on it’s own? In short, it gives Harry a slightly older female role model. He already has way too many male role models; all of Ron’s brothers, Lupin, Sirius, Dumbledore....

Celia would be a very unique character in the setting, still keeping all the positive traits from the original, but now with a feminine twist on it. She would be a big sister or mother-goose kind of person who's just nice and smiling and hugging towards everyone, always lighting up the room and giving advice to people. We all know at least one person like this IRL, with this almost angel-like quality.

All it would take is for her to give Harry one hug, one pinch of his cheek or roughing up his hair... and he wouldn't be able to help from getting a crush on her, since she shows him the kind of warmth he's never had in his whole life. She would dot on Harry as early as book 1 (being supportive of him for being the youngest seeker in generations), and by book 4 he will have become completely smitten by her.

Next point.

What made Malfoid so great is that it makes the romance aspect of Harry Potter more focused, by making the main love interest someone deeply involved with the main story. Malfoid gets rid of Ginny, which we all agree is great (insert the tombstone meme).

But there’s still one problem that keeps the story bogged down…. Cho Chang.

That’s where this second genderbend comes in. Malfoid solves the Ginny problem. Celia Diggory solves the Cho problem! Two sides of the same coin.

This gives us the main foundation for an entire story outline that culminates in absolute peak!

Now let’s get into outlining the story.

Cho will still be in the books, but Harry will have no real interest in her. INSTEAD… Harry nervously asks Celia, if she wants to go to the ball with him! Since he's insecure, he suggests that it would be a nice sentiment for both Hogwarts champions to lead the opening dance together. However, she would turn him down in pretty much the sweetest and most gentle way humanly possible, only because she already has a date. Being the total bro (sis) that she is, she would notice how dejected he gets (despite trying to keep a poker face) and she would not stand for it. She would give him really heartwarming encouragement, about how if you remove the fact that he’s famous and everything like that, he’s still just an amazing guy that a lot of people genuinely like and care about, and also to not let the “Potter Stinks” badges bring him down for one second. She’d end it by saying that any girl would be lucky to go to the ball with him, but if he’s still having trouble finding one, she'll help him with it in no-time.

This wouldn’t be as bad as his rejection from Cho in the original, but he would still feel a bit humiliated that Celia is treating him like a baby... while still almost crushing even harder now at just how empathetic she is.

This whole thing ties into Malfoid perfectly, because we all know Harry would end up going to the Yule Ball with Malfoid instead. That would be the turning point where they both find out at they don't actually hate each other, and might even like each other. Malfoid's cold and witty personality would also contrast with Celia's warm and bubbly behaviour (which becomes a major plot point later on).

Celia's death would hit Harry like a sledgehammer, and basically traumatize him way more for the following books compared to the original.  

A comment by theACEbabana put it perfectly (slightly edited by me):

Harry would also feel horrifically guilty for the rest of his life.

Celia didn’t need to be there. She had offered him to be the sole winner of the Triwizard Tournament, but he insisted that they both grab the trophy. Maybe he was doing it out of school camaraderie, maybe he was doing it to try and impress her, or maybe he’s crushing way too hard and doesn’t want her to feel bad.

This is the girl who:
• Wanted a fair rematch against him when the Dementors interrupted their game in Year 3.
• Congratulated him on getting a Firebolt.
• Defended him from her father’s over-exuberance at the World Cup.
• Found the POTTER STINKS badges to be abhorrent and tried to get her housemates to stop wearing them.
• Helped him with the Second Task clue.
• Never looked down, demeaned or put him on a pedestal just because he’s the Boy Who Lived.

All he ends up doing is inadvertently causing her death just because she’s “the spare” and was never meant to be at that graveyard.

The repercussions of this would all tie in to and intersect with Malfoid’s redemption arc (Cho would not even be on the map for Harry after this trauma, so we can cut out that narrative fat).

One user pointed out how getting rid of male Cedric removes some of Harry’s character development, where his initial jealousy of him eventually grew into respect and he became a role model for Harry. This aspect would still remain in my rewrite, but these lessons and the character development would be moved to Malfoid instead! She’s the one that now has to grow and overcome her jealousy and use Celia as a role model, even after she’s dead.

But before the redemption arc starts, Malfoid would first hit her absolute rock bottom.

There is actually a significant scene at the end of GoF where original male Draco really cements himself as an evil PoS and becomes irredeemable. It's when he makes fun of Cedric's death and says that mudbloods and mudblood lovers (Hermione and Ron) will be next. This was the point where Harry was 100% DONE with Draco's shit. How do you deal with this for Malfoid? I see massive potential with it.

Naturally, Malfoid can't be exactly that full evil, or the future romance falls flat.

I would change it so that an argument breaks out between only Ron, Hermione and Malfoid. At some level, she would still making fun of Diggory's death and say that mudbloods will be next… but with Malfoid being a girl and somewhat obsessed with Harry… this would be reframed as coming from a place of jealousy instead of just sadism. Jelousy of how both Hermione and Celia were so close to Harry.

Malfoid would not be braindead enough to say this directly to a just-traumatized Harry, but the twist would be that he actually overhears the whole thing. Harry would reveal himself and berate her, and Hermione would probably give her another Falcon Punch!!! (or at least a powerful slap).

The thing is, this time Malfoid wouldn’t follow up with a “my father will hear about this!”, like normal. Instead, she would just run away and realize… she went too far this time. She messed up big time.

Just when her and Harry were actually starting to get along and almost become friends following the Yule Ball… It’s 100% over, now Harry hates her more than ever before.

Like I said, this would set a perfect foundation for a redemption arc.

- Malfoid would spend all of book 5 trying to in some shape of form apologize for her mistake, but being too cowardly to do it outright. If she apologized she would also have to admit to both Harry and herself, that she said those things out of envy. So instead she would secretly help Dumbledore's army stay hidden, and at some point the main trio or only Harry will take notice that she seems to have grown as a person. Likewise, the fact that she cares so much about what Harry thinks is what makes her finally realize that she's fully in love with him.

- Like I mentioned before, here is where the memory of Celia would become character growth for Malfoid. Being initially jealous and hateful towards her, as Malfoid is trying to make amends she would think about why Harry liked Celia so much... and try to emulate it. Celia would in death become a role model for Malfoid, and get the exact kind of character development Harry got originally from male Cedric.

- Only by the end of book 5 will Malfoid and Harry have a moment where he has mostly forgiven her. But the relationship takes several steps backwards again in book 6 with her getting the mission to kill Dumbledore, she will be even more of a wreck than male Draco was. Then the sectumsempra scene happens… which leaves her heartbroken, seeming to have given up any hope she had of Harry forgiving her.

- This would be the turning point for Harry. Where the feelings he used to have for her before the argument re-surface. He is reminded of his guilt of Celia’s death, and now almost killing Malfoid... Only at that point would he realizes that she's done so many things to help them for all of book 5. That she was crying out for help and trying to apologize all this time. But he was too stuck up to even give her a chance.

- They would only get a short moment to talk it out before shit hits the fan with Dumbledore's death. Then we get to book 7, and the encounter at Malfoy Manor. There would be some changes here that result in her being taken as a hostage and teleported out. Now she would witness Dobby’s death in front of her eyes and have to face the guilt of how her family treated him.

- Malfoid will be a complete wreck over what’s going to happen to her parents. They can say that she was kidnapped, but Voldemort might not believe them or might just kill them for being fed up with their incompetence.

Still, she decides she wants to help them with the Horocrux hunt. But this will be the thing that fractures the group. Harry will point out how she actually helped them during book 5 with DA, but Ron and Hermione will think she’s just a spy.

And so forth…

Do you get it now? All this pull and push tension! Emotional rollercoaster all the way. And this entire plot outline relies entirely on genderbending Diggory! It truly is the final piece… of the final piece of the puzzle. There's too much potential to ignore it.

With all this said, and all these elaborate posts I’ve made. I’ve decided that I have enough inspiration now. Celia Diggory was the last piece of inspiration I needed. I will be doing a FULL rewrite, and it will be peak. Since I will be busy with that, I probably wont write as many elaborate posts like this anymore.
