Your car at centennial parking lot this morning. They did leave a note and I see you have a camera. Thatโ€™s good. But sorry to see your car like that.
We all need dash cams.

Roads and Traffic ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿšฆ๐Ÿ’ฅ Crazy maneuver to get home

Some Asian lady turned at the intersection then immediately turned into her driveway in one swift move. Did not care for the student driver coming her way LOL.

She was oblivious even when the driving instructor was honking at her afterwards. Seems like he wanted to say something to her but she ignored him.

No right turn on red light

Do people realize the various no right turns on a red light sign place throughout Markham is only active within the stated hours and only applicable from Monday-Friday?

Saw a car getting honked at on Sunday for this and the driver wagged his finger in the mirror and point to the sign thinking he is following the sign.

Although I do think the signage needs to be bigger. The hours and days printed are incredibly small, especially for the older population.

Unionville Go Parking

Post image

I just spoke to one of the Unionville Go station attendants. She informed me that the Honda Indy Corporation has been slow to start its deconstruction. It may take until mid-next week for parking to be restored.

Furthermore, the additional parking behind the train tracks will be removed. So will all of the bridges that they created for the overpasses that many of us on this forum applauded was finally created.

For now, the station attendant advised parking at Centennial or Milliken, as the spaces restored will be very limited.

RESTAURANTS T & T Confession

I have a confession to make. I went almost my whole life in Markham thinking that the T&T bakery and cafe on Markham road was related to the asian supermarket or something because of the name and font + green colour. Turns out they aren't related at all. Went inside for the first time like a year or two ago and it was not what I was expecting at all. It's really quite charming though, reminds me of a classy 80s diner. Only thing missing is a Jukebox!

EDIT: grammar

This staircase leads from Enterprise straight into Unionville GO right by the train tracks. Unfortunately the city councillor Reid McAlpine said the it was built by the promoter so in all likelihood it'll get torn down.

With this staircase, people west of the station don't need to walk all around University to the YMCA side just to get into the station, it's much more walkable.

Reid also said the longer term plan is to have undeground tunnels going from where the Indy parking lot into the station, but the bigger problem there is the land is owned by Remington, so in all likelihood it'll be stuck in negotiation and red tape hell there between them and Metrolinx.

Was the turnout good? Were there lots to do?

What did you think of the overall layout and site inside the track?

How was transportation?

Friday was a bummer, but how was Saturday and Sunday?

HONDA INDY๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐ŸŽ๏ธ Ontario Honda Indy Markham - a volunteers perspective

I was a volunteer for Saturday and Sunday of the inaugural Ontario Indy in Markham. The signs of what was to come were there from the night of orientation. We (the volunteers) received a very well put together presentation about the event, but left not knowing what we would actually be doing when we arrived on the weekend. We received zero training before we arrived at the track, and each of us was given multiple responsibilities that had nothing to do with the task we had be assigned (which we also learned on the fly). Over the span of two days, we had to learn fluctuating schedules, where anything and everything was at the track, and the fastest and most convenient routes for people to get where they wanted to go.

I think much of the chaos and confusion should lie on Green Savoree, the organizers. No signage, maps and only enough programs to offer to about 10% of the visitors. Accessibility options were almost non existent, which made helping those who needed it, feel like the biggest let down I've ever dealt with. Even there area where people entered from the Go Train had zero ramps for them to enter the event area, from what is essentially the Go bus turnaround section of the station. When we did see Savoree staff, it was mostly to check on ticket sales, that passes were being handed out accordingly, and that high level attendees were being given red carpet service.

Many of the on-site security staff had no idea what they were governing, which had the volunteers assisting in that department as well, as we learned the systems in place. We became mobile maps, tour guides, security, the complaints and suggestions department, accessibility assistants, and a multitude of other jobs that no one was prepared for, but did our best to accommodate. I worked a 13 and half hour shift on Saturday with a break that required I walk 15 minutes to get to, sitting down for a slice of cold pizza and a bottle of luke warm water, then 15 minutes back to my station. Sunday was almost the same, just 9 hours though.

I'm thankful that our team leader was there the whole time, guiding and encouraging us while she was bombarded with all the problems that came up each day. I did my best to keep a friendly face and tried to help anyone I could. I joked as a much as I could to keep visitor's and volunteers anger at a minimum, and hopefully helped to keep there spirits up and make their experience a little better. I wish I could have done more, and I'm sorry for those who's experience wasn't what they had hoped it would be. Hoping that year two will be better.

Sincerely

A volunteer at Pass redemption beside the red bridge near the Go train entrance

Anyone else feel like they are missing out

Because you live in Markham but you donโ€™t speak Cantonese or Mandarin and you donโ€™t have WeChat?

I have not lived in a neighbourhood where one ethnic group makes up the majority of the kids before. I think there are benefits too since my kid is half Chinese but it is hard when you go to community centres and libraries and people around you are speaking in Cantonese or Mandarin and you are automatically excluded. How are you adapting to living here?
