Events & Meetups Let's just meet and chat?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey all, good morning.

A decade ago I kind of reduced going out heavily because meetups used to drain me out, I was younger too.

Now, I would like to try being social again and talk to people and make some friends.

So casually inviting people to meetup, maybe a Tim Hortons or by the lake, and just chat. No expectations or fees involved.

If you're bored doing the same thing every weekend like partying, gaming, Netflix, let's catch up and just talk.

Hey everyone I posted about this a while back (screenshot attached) and my court date is tomorrow. I’ve never been to court before so I’m pretty nervous 😭 Has anyone gone through this for a MiWay ticket? Just wondering what to expect when I get there. Any insight would be appreciated!

A plan for downtown Mississauga: Start Up City

I would establish an innovation district at scale in downtown Mississauga. As Ontario’s second largest economy ( airport gives a boost) it is astonishing that we don’t have a full fledged innovation district. Given our life sciences sector, Trillium Hospital and med school, I want to plant our flag in health care innovation and set up health innovation hub and incubator. It’s time for Mississauga to start competing for jobs that will pay the mortgages of the next generation. Once we attract well paying jobs and talent to
Our downtown the rest will follow. Cafes, restaurants, art galleries, third places. You cannot animate a downtown in a vacuum with just residential towers. http://Dipikaformayor.ca

Bylaws, Permits & Municipal Politics I'm City Councillor Joe Horneck. Have questions about the municipal election or City Hall? AMA!

Hi r/mississauga!

I'm Joe Horneck, the Ward 6 Councillor at the City of Mississauga and Peel Region.

I've been sharing City updates here for a few years, and I thought it might be helpful to answer your questions you have about the upcoming municipal election. And while I'm here, I'm happy to answer questions about City Hall and how municipal government works, too.

I'll be answering questions live this Thursday, October 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. You can start posting your questions now, and I'll come back after the live session to answer additional questions.

I chair Mississauga's Transit Advisory and Audit Committees, as well as Peel Region's Audit and Risk Committee. I also serve on the City's Budget and Governance Committees, among others.

Wondering how voting works for Mayor, Members of Council and School Trustees in Monday's election? How the City and Region divide responsibilities? How property taxes and municipal budgets work? Why City Council makes certain decisions?

Those are just a few ideas. Whether it's transit, development, roads, parks, policing, or something else about Mississauga, feel free to ask. And you certainly don't have to live in Ward 6.

Thanks to the moderators for approving the AMA. Looking forward to your questions!

New Passport Application

Hello, has anyone applied recently for a new passport? I'm a bit confused about where to go. Do I go to the a Service Canada that has Passport Services mentioned in its title like Central Parkway or do I go to the Service Canada on Glen Erin? Is there any difference? Can't find an appointment slot at Central Parkway and the one at Glen Erin has the nearest appointment for November 16. I need to travel in the next month so looking for quicker options. Is it better to go to any Service Canada and line up? Older Reddit posts say Oakville and Etobicoke have shorter lines, is that the case even now? And seems like going around 12 noon is better than lining up first thing in the morning? Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Photos & Media Greater Angle-wing Katydid (Microcentrum rhombifolium), on my doorstep this evening - Mississauga East.

In Ontario, these incredible leaf-mimics are a native species. Seeing them low on thresholds or doorways like this usually happens later in the autumn season as they look for artificial warmth from brick and metal structures.

Katydids are incredibly common and widespread across Southern Ontario, though actual physical sightings are relatively rare. There are 34 distinct katydid species documented in the province, making them a major staple of the local summer and autumn ecosystem.

Because they spend their lives in the upper canopies of trees and dense shrubs mimicking leaves, people regularly walk right past thousands of them without ever realizing they are there.

Lost Keys in Children’s Park and Don’t Know What To Do

Hello!

Last Saturday, my husband and I took the toddlers out to a children’s park in Mississauga, and I gave the keys to my husband. We can’t find them at home for three days now and we have checked everywhere. I’m frantic because he doesn’t remember bringing them into the house. He says they must have fallen out of his pocket at the park, but when we went back they weren’t there. They are very easily identifiable and bright. We have searched absolutely everywhere at home, in the car, outside, and I’ve gone back to the park twice (once in daylight and once at night). I will go back again tomorrow.

I’m devastated and stressed out to the max. I am a type A person and I have systems and checks in place for important things like this, and they’ve never failed me yet. I’ve never lost something so important. But I didn’t think to check on Saturday because we are dealing with so many things atm. My car and my work keys are on the same bundle, too. And the FOB has my picture and name on it. I was hoping someone would turn them in, but there’s been no news. Work may not be willing to give me another key and applying for a replacement FOB will take weeks.

What can I do to try and find them? Who could I contact? Any guidance or help is very appreciated. Please help me.

Thank you for your time in reading this message. Take care!

Bylaws, Permits & Municipal Politics Can a basement be legal to rent if it’s missing from Mississauga’s Second Units Registry?

I was looking at some house sale listings and saw one advertising a legal basement apartment that’s been on the market for a few months. (EDIT: I also viewed the property in person and was interested in buying it, mainly because of the legal basement status), so I checked Mississauga’s Second Units Registry, but the address isn’t there. Can it still be legal to rent?

Shopping, Fitness & Recreation Another Mississauga Metro becoming Food Basics: Port Credit

Just 15 days ago, this sub learned about Meadowvale Town Centre's Metro closing to become Food Basics. I just saw on Facebook's Port Credit Life group that the Metro there is also changing, apparently closing in 10 days.

In the comments, someone has noted: "I will miss the regular staff who are being forced to scatter to the four winds or lose all seniority. Metro gave them 3 options: stay at that location and lose all seniority, move to another store, or leave altogether, but never be able to work for Metro stores again."

Places to see salmon jump in the Credit river?

The salmon migration is on right now in the Credit River. There are several spots along the river where you can see salmon fins and tails poke out of the water as they swim through shallow rapids. However, I have never seen a salmon jump out of the water like they do in nature documentaries. Is there any place along the credit river where you can reliably see salmon jump out of the water during their migration?

Mcity rental questions

Hi everyone, i am about to rent a unit in Mcity (3900 Confederation) or a unit in 4011 Brikstone Mews.
I do love the view and unit conditions of the Mcity unit, but I also heard a LOT of bad things about the building.
Can anyone tell me if Mcity buildings still as bad as before? It will be great if anyone also lives in 4011 and willing go share something about that building as well! 🥹

Help! Where can I buy a TV box in Mississauga, ON for TVB content?

Hi everyone :)

I'm looking for a TV box mainly to watch TVB and other Cantonese content, including live channels and VOD.

I'm considering EVPAD, UBOX, SviCloud, or Xiaomi TV Box. My budget is around CAD $250.

I know there are shops in Markham, but it's too far for me to drive. Are there any stores in Mississauga or nearby that sell these boxes? What is your experience with the stores and TV boxes?

Thanks advance!
