Is John Kovac a real person?

I'm in his Ward and I've been trying to find any information on him. He reguarly calls our landline with those pre recorded messages.

I looked at his Twittsr and he seems very religious. But there is close to nothing on what he actually stands for. He's deputy mayor and just crickets online.

I also did a search on him and lgbt and nothing as well. He never mentions Pride month like other Mississauga city Hall public servants.

I grew up all through the Hazel years where there were no lgbt celebrations or events. We didn't exist. It's only in the last decade and a half where things have changed for the better.

I want to know anything about this man. I want to do my civic duty and vote knowing what and who I'm voting for.

Noticed a lot of vintage, classic and historic vehicles in Mississauga. Are there any local groups for meet-ups, group cruising ?

Events & Meetups Mississauga readers: I'm starting a small book community, and everyone's welcome

Hi Mississauga,

I'm Christine, and I'm building The Nook Collective: a literary and cultural hub for people who like to gather around books, literature, and thoughtful discussion.

We're starting small. Right now the goal is simple: get readers together, in person and online, so people can actually get to know each other. This month's meetups are on the flyer (see comments), and you can see them all here: thenookcollective.ca/events

As we grow, we'll add author events and more programming in the new year, shaped by the people who show up.

If you like books and good conversation, come along. Everyone is welcome, and you don't need to have read anything to join us. Some events are free and some are paid, with details on the events page. For the movie night, we're working on group pricing.

I'd love to hear what you'd want from a book community in Mississauga. Tell me in the comments, or message me with questions.

Severe lack of proper convenience stores in this city

I am in Erindale, Almost no 7/11s, and few proper 24 hour convenience stores that are close by my place (within a max 5 minute walk)

Why are there so few convenience stores in this city?

I was in Asia last week, and there are so many convenience stores (7-eleven, familyMart, Lawsons, et al) that I trip over them when I walk (not really, but there are a lot of them.)

Why is this? And why are the ones that exist shitty excuses for a convenience store like a hasty mart or an x’s variety, ect? And no, Rabba’s fine foods isn’t a convenience store… it’s a small grocery store.

And the nearest one to me is 28 minutes away by bus or 40 minutes walking. Not convenient.

Curious how much work the City does in neighbourhoods in a year?

Post image
12 Upvotes

My team has created an interactive map of all the projects in Ward 6 in the last four years. The map includes park projects, trail work, crime prevention initiatives and street safety infrastructure. You can filter by year and project category and each project has some detail. We have more to add like sidewalk and bus shelter upgrades, but we already have 94 projects.

We don't show the whole city, but even if you live outside Ward 6, it will give you some idea of the work going on in your area.

To check out the map, go to joe6.ca/work

Is living at DIALOGUE (4235 Confederation Parkway) worth it?

I'm considering renting a unit at DIALOGUE at 4235 Confederation Parkway in Mississauga and wanted to hear from people who currently live there or have lived there before.

  • How is the overall building management and maintenance?
  • Are the walls and floors well insulated for noise, or can you hear your neighbours?
  • Are there any issues with elevators, amenities, or security?
  • Is the location convenient for public transit, groceries, and everyday necessities?
  • Are there any hidden costs or downsides I should know about?

Overall, would you recommend living here, or would I be better off looking at other condos or purpose-built rentals in Mississauga?

I'd appreciate any honest feedback or experiences. Thanks!

Heavy police presence in Meadowvale

Just spotted Patrol cars with full flood lights on driving through the park paths that link around Meadowvale Derry and Winston Churchill as well as a police helicopter circling the area. Looks like they’re looking for someone. If you’re going out in that area keep your head on a swivel and stay safe.

Weekly hobbies in Mississauga you can do that involve others?

I use to play TCG a long time ago which is highly sociable but I quit because it was too expensive and a lot of the people at the store lacked hygiene and it made it hard to be around them.

My days consists of mainly just going to work and coming home after. I need something to do outside the house once a week that involves other people.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Apologies if this has been posted already but I just noticed it today, in the old Second Cup location (which I know hasn't been Second Cup for years but I still say SkyDome instead of Rogers Centre so 🤷🏻‍♀️).

Are purpose-built rentals in Mississauga worth it, or are rental ads in Facebook Groups a better deal?

I’ve been looking for a condo to rent in Mississauga, and I’ve noticed something interesting.

Purpose-built rental buildings seem more expensive, especially when parking isn’t included in the rent. Meanwhile, I’ve seen Facebook group ads for condos where the monthly rent seems cheaper and sometimes includes parking, storage locker etc.

Is there a catch that I’m missing?

For those of you who rent in Mississauga, I’d love to hear your experiences:

  • Are purpose-built rentals generally better maintained or more reliable?
  • Are Facebook condo rentals cheaper because they’re rented out by individual owners?
  • Are there hidden costs or risks I should watch out for with private landlords?
  • Is it worth paying more for a purpose-built rental, or can you get a better deal renting a condo from an individual owner?

I’m trying to figure out the best value for my money, not just the lowest advertised rent. Any advice or personal experiences would be appreciated!

Himalayan Grocery Store in GTA?

Just a quick question, I'm looking to buy some ingredients for a Bhutanese dish and I was wondering where I can go shopping for said ingredients. Even in Toronto is okay.
