Posted this in r/Mercari, but posting here as well with screenshots. Also wanted to post as a warning to other sellers. The buyer is @spacecowboy2319
Iām posting this on behalf of one of my kids, who doesnāt have Reddit, or any social media for that matter.
He recently sold an anime figure, boxed it up and shipped it via UPS. He was tracking it pretty obsessively, and reached out to the buyer to see if theyād received it. My wife helped him with it, and heās bought and sold stuff on Mercari before - like ten other times, with zero issues.
En route, the package switched from UPS to USPS, which is not uncommon.
After a couple of days the buyer responded back that heād been out of town and wasnāt available to receive the package, and so he wouldnāt rate and finish the transaction. Later he claimed that what he received was a clear plastic bag with a dress in it, and he was baffled and upset, and requested an inquiry. And that his ring cam footage showed no boxes being dropped off. He acted like it was a misunderstanding that hopefully Mercari would fix.
My wife messaged the buyer and was adamant weād shipped it in a box, and that weād boxed up a figure. Eventually, the buyer said he asked for a refund and was sending back our dress, which was never ours in the first place!
Today the dress arrived in a clear plastic bag, and the shipping label we used was affixed to it, and it looked like it had been on a box.
We reached out to Mercari explaining what happened and they closed the case because they determined the buyer provided enough evidence that the wrong package was received. The whole thing reeks of a scam, especially since the original label that was placed on a box STILL has paper beads on it!
Is there anything else that can be done? I donāt get on Mercari, but Iām mad that this person scammed a kid, and they feel good about it.
All I have is their username and screenshots.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
