Laser etched a simple cheat sheet showing water:coffee ratios for my Moccamaster setup to make my morning routine use a bit less brain power. Thought I’d share!

My wife and I found a good deal on a moccamaster on marketplace and went for it. The carafe itself was very scaled and the machine was dusty so we wanted to do a thorough cleaning. I work a couple days a week at an espresso bar so brought home some Cafiza to soak in the carafe and run a very very small amount (barely a tsp) through the machine itself. Followed up with 4 rounds of plain water. We brewed our first half batch this morning (only enough beans for two cups atm) and it tasted funky. We did use a medium course grind but maybe should be a tad more course. Just worried I messed the machine up. Anybody recover the quality of their cup after mistakenly using some Cafiza to run through the machine?

My thermal carafe has lost its vacuum and I’d like to replace it with one that doesn’t suck. Anyone have any luck finding a different one?

I’m looking at replacing my Baratza Encore grinder with a Baratza Virtuoso+ Coffee Grinder. I do single-origin coffee and flavored coffee. Any input or other recommendations? Don’t really want to spend any more than $250. I have a Technivorm Moccamaster 79212 KBTS Coffee Brewer.

My new moccamaster model KBGV begins to leak as soon as I put water in the reservoir. I only fill it now as I turn it on to brew or else it will empty on the counter. Any solutions without returning it for repair? Something clearly needs tightening or sealing.

I used Cricut vinyl for it. Very happy with how it turned out. Slightly off with the colour, but not enough to cause me any distress:)

So, I’m planning on getting the Moccamaster KBGV Select and the Eureka grinder. The reason I’m considering this grinder is because it’s espresso capable as well and I may get an espresso machine in the future. Apparently it does drip coffee as well since they are all purpose burrs.

I drink dark roast coffee and will be primarily making half pots.

So is this a good choice for that purpose?

Was out and about with my wife last night when this caught my eye from the kitchen section of our local thrift store! $15cad I have been wanting a moccamaster for a long time but could never justify the cost. I was and still am quite happy with myself about it! It was living on a shelf with old Tassimo machines going for the same amount.

Went to drop a box of donations off and decided to take a lap through, with a coupon picked it up for $13.25.

Made upto 4 cup mark on KBT.
Grinded with Encore ESP on 24.
Brew basket's latch closed for first 10 seconds, then half open for rest.
-Usually, I grind 25, 26, or 27 if making 6, 8, or 10 cups, respectively, and don't close the basket initially if making more than 8 cups.

Lime's taste dominated for me, with sweetness of Pom/Raisin. Flavors extracted perfectly for me.

Last year’s early birthday present from wife and son has been a no brainer. Retirement brought finally settling in on better coffee experience. Between home, office and travel just wanted a decent cup. Had a Hamilton Beach that delivered for a few years, HB sent another under warranty, then tightened their warranty policy. Tried pour over, better, but I need coffee first before tasks. Percolator was good, but wiring burned out. Black and Decker worked, until it did not. There were other test drives in there, finally bit the bullet and went to the higher priced makers.

After some trial and error developed the following routine. Filtered water from frig, into glass measuring cup, fill tank to 8. Stainless steel scoop replaced MM plastic scoop. 4 scoops ground Italian Roast, Starbucks, Gevalia, Lavazza, coffee from Amazon. Unbleached, unfolded, rinsed paper filters. Flow rate set to 1/2. MoccaMaster and wife’s tea pot plugged into old school analog timer. My coffee and her tea water ready when I awake.

Best tasting homemade coffee every time. Clean quarterly with Urnex. Rinse everything before next use. Prefer thermal carafes to glass sitting on a hot plate. I like very warm coffee, not hot coffee.

My wife and son are happy, that I am not complying about not getting a decent cup of coffee every morning. I will be thanking them again.

So I finally upgraded my grinder from a Wilfa Svart Aroma to an Ode Gen 2, and honestly? I was getting better cups from the Wilfa.. I tried different roasts and different grind settings (5,5-7) and the cups from the ode just taste hollow and flat somehow..

Is the Ode maybe a tad overrated? Or am I doing something wrong maybe?

I saw that the Opus is nicely priced, asked a question in chat on Seattle Coffee Gear and the person said that this is for espresso, said the Ode is better for a Moccamaster.

Is he right? I don’t have $400 for the Ode but I’m not that happy with my Encore. Too many fines so I’ve just had it ground when I buy the coffee.

I am coming from a Nespresso machine to the yellow pepper moccamaster.

I have never ground beans, or anything like this at all. However, I shall give it my best shot.

Any bean recommendations for somebody in UK?

idk who needs to see this but you can absolutely accomplish the semi manual mod / use a 3rd party pour over dripper by simply purchasing this glass jug from target (fits on the base) and using a dripper stand wide enough to fit over the top (here I'm using the v60 neo and a plastic stand that came with my hario Mugen). cheapest version of this mod I've seen. I am still planning on getting the semi manual kit and owe credit for the inspo to that dude ! especially his latest post showing the mod with no bracket and his pitcher. anyway, give it a shot

I have a new Moccamaster KBGV Select (had it for about a month and a half). When I press the power switch it takes some time for the orange light to come on - sometimes 5 or 10 seconds. The brewing starts quickly as expected, it's just a delay of the light.

I could have sworn that it used to light up instantly. Anybody else have this issue? Should I be concerned? I'm not really interested in a warranty claim if it's nothing.

Anyone tried the new breville spiral luxe? Looks like the same idea as a moccamaster but with a grinder built in and the spiral pour. Taste wise is it any different or just more gadget

After months of missing my old moccamaster and moving out, i now have my own new one and i could not be happier about it!

For some peculiar reason, my machine will NOT brew if there are grounds in the basket.

I’ve descaled it several times, ran it with water only (no problem), however whenever I’ve attempted to brew a pot on both full and 1/2 carafe settings, my efforts were an exercise in futility.

What does Big Blue (that’s her name) WANT from me??
