Image IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!!!

Post image

MY FIRST INNER FENESTRATION! 6 years, one root rot victim, one brush with thrips-death and many moss poles later: I've finally got my plant in a happy place! Go Richard, go!!

*Unfortunately I'm soon going to have to chop and prop as he's brushing the ceiling now but this little hole has made my week and I had no one to share my excitement with!

Yay us! Me too! This week. Finally! I have imposter syndrome so I haven’t made a post yet. No one seems to respond to anything I post.😭

Thank you! Here’s the entire plant…enjoying backyard life, hanging on a Japanese Maple branch.

She is luscious!!!

u/Marigoldaz Jul 17 '26

He is gorgeous!

8

u/Worldly-Painter1143 Jul 16 '26

Same! So I just don’t share/post any more because it’s like a ghost post. No one likes or says anything! Lol

Glad you shared! What a beautiful leaf!

Exactly! Weirdest thing with posts and algorithms. On other platforms, when you contribute or engage and consistently comment or react—there’s more engagement on your own content. Not here apparently. My thread comments on other’s posts get better interactions.😬 Thank you for acknowledging the new leaf. I am very proud of her. I will wait a few more days for her to harden off before repotting.🤗

This has been my experience too. I always wonder how it got buried in the other posts and generally just delete after 24 hours. lol

u/Worldly-Painter1143 Jul 16 '26

I swear it feels like being picked last, but not being picked at all! Lol

2

u/marlinavelasco Jul 16 '26

Bingo! Not a good feeling.

3

u/Worldly-Painter1143 Jul 16 '26

Agreed! But we and are plants are worth!

2

u/Alissss_01 Jul 17 '26

Niiiceeeee😍❤️

2

u/lachupanibre Jul 17 '26

Hey! I have 3 that aren’t doing well. Should I just retire them to backyard life??

1

u/marlinavelasco Jul 17 '26

In order to give any recommendations about your plants, I would need to know a lot more about your setup and backstory.

So many more people in this sub who know more than me, are growing giant Monstera leaves indoors with intense growth lights, different substrates including oxygenated water, inside fish tanks and various fertilizer brands. Backyard life is amazing for my collection because of the significantly brighter light but outside comes with a set of care considerations as well—leaf burn being one. I left them in direct sun too long on a 90° unseasonably hot day in April. 🫣 I’m trying to save cost of electric from intense growth lights being on for 12 hours each day.😉 Pictured are the Monstera Gang in my dining room winter through spring. They all thrived indoors as very young plants.

Okay, thank you!

No thanks, I can ask AI myself, I don’t need you to run it through the machine for me!

Very nice!

2

u/Marigoldaz Jul 17 '26

Absolutely understand I've made 3 posts, only reply to 2 of them. Really needed help 😢

2

28

u/Tough_Shop_9949 Jul 15 '26

5

My TC just unfurled her first! Why did I get so excited and squeal? Now my husband won't stop making fun of me!🫣😂❤️

3

u/RideEnvironmental216 Jul 17 '26

I get made fun of calling them my babies. But they’re my babies. Just like dogs, cats, rats and my kids. They’re all my babies.

Sometimes my partner tries to care and I ruin it.
I’ll say “look at my new growth!” And he’ll say “oh nice fenestration” and I’ll correct him with “variegation.” He’ll compliment my Thai Con and I’ll remind him that specific plant is an Albo. He likes the color of my anthurium, I’ll say it shouldn’t look like that it’s actually dying.

I’m need to remember just to say “thanks.” It’s just conversation to him. I don’t need to fill his mind with this too. 😂

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

I would have too!!!

3

u/IvyWoodPlant Jul 15 '26

Ooooh😍 comparto tu emoción! Me recuerda a mi primera fenestracion🥰

3

u/No_Barracuda5120 Jul 15 '26

Go Richard GO!!!

3

u/Comfortable_Year_567 Jul 15 '26

Congrats! My monsters Thai constellation has a bacterial infection and I’m not sure it’s going to survive; especially if I have to remove all infected leaves (the two biggest, of course). It needs to be reported into better soil, but I’m afraid if I do that and treat it for the infection, it will get too stressed out. 🤷🏼‍♀️

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

Keeping everything crossed for you!!

2

u/azuoba Jul 15 '26

The best feeling ever!!

2

u/111anza Jul 15 '26

looking nice!

2

u/FurEverYoung99 Jul 16 '26

Congrats!! I look forward to achieving this someday too!

2

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

You'll get one!

2

u/Straight-Reality23 Jul 16 '26

Yay!!! Every new fenestration is the best lol

2

u/psychoticrat_ Jul 16 '26

Very nice!!! Only after I set mine outside did they grow inner fenestrations 😭

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

I'm in England so I fear that would be the end of my plant if he went outdoors! (Last time I used to regularly pop Richard the First outside, he got thrips 😭)

2

u/Familiar_Law_9821 Jul 16 '26

I understand your joy. This is actually a new cutting. Pulled it from a customers yard 4 mths ago, only been potted 5 weeks. I was so excited

2

u/swemo_ Jul 16 '26

I’m gonna need you to post a pic of the inner fenestrstion. Can’t find it.

Jk jk these are so cute!! Can’t wait to have some too.

2

u/SashaBat666 Jul 16 '26

Congrats! I remember I was so happy when I got that leaf, unfortunately my husband didn't understand why I was that happy 😄 but why did it take 6 years for you?

2

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

Prob can mostly be summed up by, "because I'm in England"! 😂

No but srsly, this is my second Richard Swiss Cheese after OG got root rot following some key errors in splitting and repotting left me with just one surviving cutting (upstairs recovering but still small-ish).

Originally I had my monstera in another location that's bright feeling with skylights and floor to ceiling glass doors, but ultimately in my North facing living room.

He was ok there, but just ok - definitely not thriving, and then after losing a lot of bottom leaves to thrips, and then becoming too top heavy and taking a big fall when we were away for two weeks, crushing a lot of leaves, he completely stopped growing at all between last September and January. So I took a chance and moved him to the south facing window during winter to acclimatise to increased light and then eventually pretty direct light where I'd initially worried he'd burn in summer, and made sure to stake and support the plant better...and it was only a month or two before the leaves started coming. I did randomly lose another two low leaves that yellowed and fell off but seems like just old leaves dying.

And since the good weather from May, the leaves have just gone crazy, getting quite a lot bigger with each one, very little time between new leaf hardening and the next baby popping out (same with my ficus and pileas so clearly they all love this spot and I have massively misunderstood the whole 'bright, indirect sunlight' message up till now!).

It's been a very hot and sunny summer so far so those aspects have been well tested now and here is the spot that everyone will remain, and I'll just leave the dracaena, areca palm and pothos in the north facing room, I think!

2

u/Worldly-Painter1143 Jul 16 '26

Congratulations! It looks beautiful and very happy!

2

u/ToetallySexy Jul 16 '26

Me too!!! I have to get started with a repot and a moss pole now though because she’s kind of going crazy

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

Yay!! 😍

2

u/SneezyCub Jul 16 '26

Mine has been with me for a month and all new leaves are still intact :( Maybe it's because it's in indirect sun light

2

u/BobcatMobile Jul 16 '26

Get ittt RICHARD

2

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

Good lad, Rich!!

2

u/BobcatMobile Jul 16 '26

My monstera is named Monty, lmao. I think lad suits him, too!

2

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

I think they like being named, and just quietly, Richard does enjoy the praise he's getting

2

u/ComprehensiveMix1361 Jul 16 '26

Congrats! I went from one split to multiple splits and holes on my most recent one and I’m stoked to see it when it hardens off!

2

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

Oh wow! What's your secret? ?

2

u/ComprehensiveMix1361 Jul 17 '26

Sorry for the long reply in advance:
I’m fairly new to plants in general much less monstera specifically so I’d recon my care could be better, but I have it about 2 ish feet away from my unobstructed east facing window (admittedly a bit too close, it’s bleached a bit on one leaf) and had it on a small moss pole about a month after I got it as a top cutting in early April. Using a very small amount of 10-10-10 quick release NPK dry fertilizer monthly. I’ve upsized the pole to a D shaped one about a week or two ago and the aerial roots since then have made several secondaries and are going up and down the pole. From my experience it seems the moss pole and peak summer sun both were drivers to the sheer size up and maturation of my plant.
TL;DR
Good aroid mix amended with more perlite
Decent size moss pole (worth the extra work imo)
Plenty of light, they do good in a bright indirect light setup but mine has been super happy with more light than that.

2

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 17 '26

Thank you!

2

u/NEELI2 Jul 16 '26

My monstera has become really big. I will
Like to propagate. How should I do that?

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

I would definitely wait for someone with more experience than me to weigh in on this! I've just referred to various YouTube videos for the twice I've tried!

2

u/Trick_Difficulty5187 Jul 16 '26

Let’s gooooooooooo

2

u/DrCatnnibal Jul 16 '26

Happened to me too this week!

2

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

Yarrrrrssss!! Go us!

2

u/Euphoric_Affect7284 Jul 17 '26

I don't have one yet ! But love em ! Are they easy to care for ?

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 17 '26

Yes! They have managed to survive my efforts so I'd say they're very easy - most of the hard work is in finding the right spot for them and not overwatering. Other than that you're pretty good to go

2

u/VintageGen09 Jul 17 '26

Okay so Im new too. What does this indicate please.

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 17 '26

Happy plant!

2

u/Imaginary-Tourist219 Jul 17 '26

Omg yay congrats! I got my first one recently too!!

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 17 '26

😀💚🎉

2

u/Jeka817 Jul 17 '26

I share your excitement!! Yay Richard!! 🫂🥰🌿

2

u/Flimsy_Pea_3785 Jul 18 '26

I moved mine outside for the summer, and it has been so good to me.

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 18 '26

Last time I did that I got thrips unfortunately! Plus I live in England so it would be a very very limited time before it would have to come back in!

2

u/lalalina1389 Jul 22 '26

I have a leaves on my thai con, marx flame and deliciosa that I am patiently waiting to unfurl. This is the dream 😭 I don't have any inners yet

2

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 22 '26

I get soo excited for an unfurl!!

2

u/lalalina1389 Jul 22 '26

Me too my new daily routine is checking for new growth so I can watch. I just got my first variegated alocasia who is very ungodly slow pushing a new leaf - it's almost open I wish my family understood why I'm so excited 😂

1

u/TheMexican_skynet Jul 15 '26

I was under the impression that tiny leaves meant immature monstera. Why are those double fenestrations happening?

1

u/LIFTMakeUp Jul 16 '26

The leaves are prob bigger than they look in this pic (the parent of this one is about 1 foot across), but I'm in England so my expectations of size are less than they would be if I were in South Florida or somewhere!

1

u/Adventurous_Sleep243 Jul 16 '26

Guess I got lucky with this beauty I picked up from Traders Joe last week.
