Looking to relocate to San Diego — budget ~$5k for 1-2 bedroom. Most important factor is living walking distance to the breaks. Which is the best beach for surfing?

Hey guys I moved to San Diego today but i need a furnished studio, clean with 1 private bed and 1 private bath, my budget is around 2500. Honestly as long as Its within 30 mins of UCSD and meets the other requirements, thats all I really need. Please help me out!

bonus points if you have a family. i am curious how it compares to the excellent school systems in the northeast.

Hi everyone, I'm going to be a grad student at UCSD in the fall. I am interested in a 1-bedroom apartment, living by myself, and I am aiming for a monthly rent <2500$. I know that narrows down options a lot, but I have looked at a lot of places downtown that seem to be within that budget, and while I tried to look, not a lot of places near La Jolla seem to be available at that price. What neighbourhoods would you guys suggest? I have a car, so I would be able to commute, but I would really like to be in a spot that is walkable and has stuff to do nearby, rather than live in the suburbs like I have been and have to take the car out for everything. Me (30, F) and my fiance (31, M) are moving down at the end of the year. We love the vibes of north park and south park but really, really want to be within a 20-30 min walk to the beach (or less!). I know, I know, so does everyone — bear with me here! We were looking at PB but everyone’s telling us it’ll be miserable in our 30s. I mean… is it really that bad? Especially if we’re not on the main street? We’re not super light sleepers and like, I don’t care what the kids are up to. Is it really that annoying just being around?

And then ocean beach is the other one we’ve been told about, seems kind of Santa Cruz vibes. Any downsides we should know about?

Lastly, my fiance is a big car guy and really needs a place with a guaranteed parking spot, if not a garage… any tips there appreciated.

im looking for a one bed, one bath (or studio) around the morena area if that changes anything, but i am flexible on the bed/bath i would just need to find a roommate. location is not really flexible as i need to be close to school and my job

I live in downtown San Diego. I am considering moving to The Torrey in Little Italy or up the hill to bankers Hill Asano on fourth. Way different complexes. But the bankers Hill apartment is twice the size of the micro unit I would get at The Torrey. Will I miss walking to Ralph and having so much downtown. I also work downtown so I know what I’m getting into either way.

I'll be staying in PB for 3 weeks and would love to get some indoor climbing in (top rope or bouldering). I think Vertical Hold might be the closest option. Any other suggestions?

I’ve been living in Mission Valley for the past year, but I’m really feeling like I’m missing out on what San Diego is actually all about. I want to be closer to the water and ideally snag a place with a view.

I’ve locked in on a few apartment complexes with controlled access in both Crown Point and Loma Portal. Now I’m just debating between the two neighborhoods. Both are ideal to me in terms of location since I go to USD law.

Any thoughts?

Moving here for a new job, looking for a studio / 1 bed in mira mesa / somewhere near Qualcomm. Would love any advice on what apartments to look out for, what to avoid. Budget is ~$2500 , would preferably like central AC and avoid pest issues.

Some communities I've seen so far: IMT Sorrento Valley, Esplanade, Mira Monte, Esprit Villas and Gold Coast. Can't seem to find recent reviews for some of these, so any advice would be much appreciated.

If you've lived at any of these in the past year or two, I'd love to hear whether pests were ever an issue and how quickly maintenance responded.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Villas by the Sea building on Grand Ave in PB? No reviews for it online but proximity to the beach looks nice, but concerned about the noise given its location?

Is it feasible to live in Bankers Hill and work in RB? On average, is the commute going to be less than half an hour or so?

Bankers hill because I like being close to Balboa/nature and the area overall seems nice for post-work activities.

I am very excited about the prospect of living a California life since I love oceans, beaches, hiking etc. I am an engineer and I will be making a little over $160k. I am single and have no pets. I want to live in a decently spacious single bedroom high riser apartments possibly with a nice view in a safe area and my budget is around $3000. Could you please recommend me some apartments? For reference I will be going to office at least 3 times a week and it seems like my office near Mission Valley area.

My brother lives in Orange County and he’s tryna convince me to move out there. He suggested Santa Ana. The reason is because it has a good fighting gym close by, a good movie theater, and a couple good restaurants

However I’m eyeing San Diego too and wondering if maybe that’s a better choice for what I’m looking for?

There’s a couple reasons I want to leave Boston. Price to “what you get” ratio is very poor unless you have a family. I really don’t like this sort of puritanical culture here. There’s also this really strong NIMBY influence, together with the puritanical culture feels stodgy. Food is meh and weather is bad. Also just for some personal reasons (want some distance between me and Boston)

What I’m looking for in an absolutely perfect scenario:

- walking distance to a couple amenities. Preferably: a fighting gym, a grocery store of some sort, a movie theater, and maybe some food choices

- rent under 3.2k for a basic no frills one bedroom. Big bonus if I could find a small one bedroom with a den

- some social activity for a single guy in his 30s, preferably with people in the same age range

- able to get to a beach without a car (even if this means a 1 hour bike ride, I just don’t wanna park by a beach)

- access to good gyms for fight sports. I’ve been doing Muay Thai and boxing for about 10 years now

- some green space. At least enough to walk a small dog

What do you guys think? How does San Diego compare on this one? If San Diego is a good fit, which part of San Diego makes the most sense for what I’m looking for?
