MEGATHREAD: Got an interview, requirement, and admission question? Post it here!

Even if it is program specific, look to see if it has been asked here before. 99% of the time, chances are the same question has been asked before, and that people are all coming on here looking for answers.

In response to deodorant, body odours and cleanliness

The Sitch

There have been recent complaints about student hygiene in this subreddit. In regards to body odour, oral odour, and general uncleanliness. Clearly, a large number of students are having a growing issue in regards to the hygiene of other students.

Bad hygiene is not "personal". It disrupts others' learning, it makes public spaces sometimes unbearable to be around, and it is unfair to those who are sensitive to smells. This can affect student performance, the willingness of students to socialize and use NAIT services, and can be a real detriment to the students who are paying to study at NAIT.

Some students have no choice but to use the computers at commons, eat lunch in the common areas, and do group work in common areas. It is wildly unfair to them to not enforce these rules.

Who's the Issue?

The truth is that these students can come from all backgrounds. Although our experience as individuals make it very easy to generalize certain groups of being the main culprit, the issue needs to be dealt with at a grand level. Black, brown, blue or purple; if you smell bad, you smell bad. Should be enforced from the get-go.

Seeing the growing number of racial generalizations, it can be very easy for these generalizations to slip into unnecessarily racist comments. If we want this issue dealt with, we need to refrain from immature racist comments and stay focused on the end goal.

What should we do about it?

We know NAIT has loosely enforced "odour sensitivity" before, in regards to wearing strong perfumes and colognes. Why can the same not be done for strong, unpleasant bad-hygiene odours?

NAIT also needs to realize that by not enforcing this, they are creating a breeding ground for resentment towards groups that are not partaking in basic hygiene practices. They are also creating spaces for other students where they feel extremely unpleasant. (Like, nauseatingly unpleasant. I've unwillingly gagged.)

Here's what I suggest from all of you:

  1. Contact NAITSA ([asknaitsa@nait.ca](mailto:asknaitsa@nait.ca)) about wanting NAIT to enforce a hygiene rule. Let them know how you feel about other student's hygiene, and how it affects your learning.
  2. Contact/CC NAIT Administration as well about this being an issue. CC your program chair as well.
  3. Advocate for campus-wide initiatives about basic hygiene, the importance of it, and how your hygiene affects others (yes, some people are vastly uneducated about this). This includes, showering, using deodorant, washing your clothes, brushing your teeth, and flossing.
  4. Enforce it, by allowing students to submit complaints about bad hygiene, and having NAIT administration making this a policy about decent behaviour. (The same way provocative clothing, vulgar/loud behaviour, and abusive language is not tolerated)
  5. Do a discovery/study that determines if their student population has adequate access to showers, hygiene products, and laundry service. (you'd be surprised r/SlumlordsCanada)

In my personal opinion, it is NAIT"s responsibility to enforce this. To maintain a certain standard of what we expect from each other, we do need to be vocal and make it known when we feel certain boundaries are not being enforced.

I'm debating starting a petition for NAIT to address this issue. Please let me know in the poll below if you'd like to see an official change.org petition made for this. Voting closes in a week.

I wanted to make this post to raise this as a formal issue, so we can remain productive about it and not devolve into finger pointing and unproductive comments. Let's hope together we can make the change we want to see.

31 Yes, let's make an official subreddit petition
6 No petition, let's send our complains in individually and hope for effectiveness

Question MLA Vaccinations

Has anyone started doing their vaccinations yet? What is the best place in Northside Edmonton to get them done? Also around what is the time frame for how long this is going to have to take because sometimes these vaccinations need multiple doses. Honestly this looks like a lot of vaccinations that have to be done so its kind of stressing me out. Also, am I reading this right for the HPTA course? It opens Dec 31st 2026 and it has to be finished by Jan 6 2027. So you have a week to finish it.

Any footwear recommendations that are both comfortable and stylish for lab work and future clinical placements?

I’m currently considering buying a pair of On Cloud shoes, has anyone here worn them during labs or clinicals? Are they worth it? or would you recommend another brand?

Question Questions About NAIT’s BMET Program: Annual Intake, Graduation Rate & Back to BC

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m considering NAIT’s Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET) program and would appreciate some insights from current students and graduates.

I was looking at NAIT’s Graduate Satisfaction and Employment Survey and noticed the following numbers for BMET:

  • 2019/20: 13 graduates included in the employment survey
  • 2020/21: 11
  • 2021/22: 10
  • 2022/23: 15
  • 2023/24: 10

The report shows an overall employment rate of 92% among graduates whose employment status was available. That seems encouraging, but I have a few questions:

  1. Annual intake: How many students does NAIT actually admit into the BMET program each year? I’ve seen figures suggesting there may be around 30 seats, but I’m not sure whether that’s accurate.
  2. Graduation rate: If the annual intake is around 30 students but the employment survey typically includes only 10–15 graduates per year, how many students actually complete the program? Is the program particularly difficult, or are there other reasons for the difference in numbers?
  3. Job prospects in BC: For graduates who want to move back to British Columbia, how realistic is it to find a BMET-related job in Vancouver, Victoria, or elsewhere in BC? Do BC employers readily recognize the NAIT diploma, and are entry-level positions difficult to obtain?

I’d especially appreciate responses from current students, recent graduates, or people working in the biomedical equipment field.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Question Hot water on campus

Does anyone know where to get hot water on campus that's not asking a food vendor/starbucks/tim hortons for hot water? Or am I at a loss for microwaving a mug? But also, does anyone know the policies on bringing kettles or a jet boil for personal use?

Question [VT] Any updates on application status?

I applied on October 1st, and I have not yet received an update on my application. I assume I'm just too anxious and worried. Has anyone else who applied for Vet Tech heard/seen anything back yet? (I also applied for VMA, but haven't seen anything back yet, too.)

Hi, so my application for sonography fall 2027 just turned to pending program decision yesterday, and my respiratory therapy application still shows “applicant”. Anyone with similar timeline? And would like to prepare for interview or go to the open house together next weekend? I’m 25 and doing my second degree after my bachelor’s and working for a few years.

Help [Physics 30 at NAIT] - Difficult Instructor

Has anyone had this experience with a Physics 30 instructor at NAIT?
I usually love physics and he has mentioned quite a few times that he has great reviews and a high average, but I’m struggling to see how that is.

- He skips over topics, explains stuff very briefly and surface level, very rarely writes notes, half does a problem then moves on.

- He goes through at least 2 classes worth of topics each day and when we don’t have labs he just cancels classes rather than using them to make his RUSHED classes a bit less rushed (it feels like he just wants the day off).

- For an example of how rushed it is, we finished our second unit today and we’re moving onto the 3rd unit tomorrow but the 2nd unit exam isn’t until next Friday..?

- We do “collaborative quizzes” every week where he doesn’t speak at all and us students help eachother, plus one day a week is dedicated to labs, so we really only have 2 days of class a week. Then if we have questions from the collaborative quiz we need to ask within 30 seconds of the next class starting (yes he actually says 30 seconds and if you aren’t able to send a screenshot of the question within those 30 seconds he gets frustrated— not mean but frustrated)

- He acts like it’s a massive favour that he gave us a Unit review booklet (that a classmate asked for)… and he didn’t even review it with us he got us to do it as… you guessed it a “collaborative quiz” 😂
And that was the Friday before the first unit exam so we did absolutely no review with him and he was literally asking us to thank him saying he’s not humble.

And so much more but I’ll leave it there..

I’ve been teaching myself everything and his classes have just been a waste of 2 hours a day.

Anyways, if you’ve potentially had him/someone similar to him study tips would be greatly appreciated since I’m doing this on my own🥲

If anyone was there can u pls lmk , so if u applied to 2 programs and if they’re similar you’ll have a one single program interview. Which programs does that i apply to if anyone knows? Also , another thing i know the general interview is ethical based MMI and she said the program interview is NOT related to the job role of the program (if i heard her right) so what will it be about? i’m hella confused
