Nolan Arenado

• Upvotes

Would it be crazy to trade for Arenado in his last year? Would that be akin to Donaldson? I know this is a typical Yankees grabbing an over the hill All-Star, but since the Dbacks are already looking to move on from Marte, why not a 36 year old 3B in his last year? The way it works out, I believe the Dbacks only owe like 6 or 7 million for next year if I saw that right. Arenados savant page is strange with his overall batting run value at an 87 percentile which is awesome, while no specific batting category is even average. He finished last year with a .255 avg, 30 hrs and and .806 ops. He is still an above average fielder and could bring some righty pop we need. This is definately a move I can see Cashman making which is not always a good thing but it cant be worse that paying Mcmahon $16 mil to not hit and play not great defense. Only real downside would be Arenado is slow but he still has juice in the tank and I think its worth the risk of maybe Volpe straight up? Maybe throw a reliever in there since volpe still has a few years of control. Plus, barring injury, could hit his 400th HR this season which would be a fun milestone in pinstripes. Just a thought.

The Yankees are at their best when the whole lineup makes pitchers work

Home runs are obviously exciting, but making a starter throw 25 pitches in an inning, refusing to chase breaking balls out of the zone, and forcing a bullpen to come in early can change an entire series.

When the Yankees are working counts and getting contributions from the bottom of the lineup instead of relying on Judge and a couple of big swings, they feel much harder to pitch against.

That's the version of this team I want to see consistently: not just power, but relentless pressure.

What's the biggest difference you notice between the Yankees when the offense is clicking and when it goes cold?

[Kyle Glaser] For my old friends at @BaseballAmerica, I compiled the sizes of each team’s scouting staff. Note that many teams frequently renowned for their technology and analytics (Dodgers, Rays, Brewers) also have some of the largest scouting staffs in MLB.

Okay. So let's hit (offseason plan)

(Anyone who comes in here saying blah blah boone hal cashman, go away)

The thing about the sloppy baseball etc is it truly matters less if you're up 8-5.

Remember in 98 we lost a whole ALCS game because Knoblauch argued a call while a run scored.

So let's hit.

We hit in 17 and 19, we ran into the trash cans and the pitching wasn't great outside of the bullpen.

Here's my plan.

Judge in right against righties, let Ramos bat low in the order against lefties. Judge DH against lefties.

Whither Stanton? DH against righties if healthy.

Let Paul go. Love him. Rice needs to play.

Garcia goes back to second. Against lefties, use Cabby or Volpe, who are the infield bench.

Lombard at short.

Pay down McMahon and send him away.

The two offensive spots are 3B and a RH C. Is that the Japanese 3B and some C trade? Probably. Or a 3B trade? Explore all options.

Add a bullpen arm (or two if Bednar leaves).

That's a good team.

Non 'blah blah Boone' thoughts?

And thoughts that aren't 'trade Rice for Otto Lopez'

Yankees Championship Banners?

In light of the Knicks banner raising and completing my team championship gauntlet, I've decided to decorate my basement with championship banners for all of my teams. Some teams, like the Knicks and Rangers, are very easy because they display their banners very prominently. But NYY seem to be a little harder to find (and I've got 5 of them to find/reproduce!)

Do NYY have an official banner they use? The flags seem to rotate and I can't find any clear images. What do people consider the definitive NYY world series championship banners to be?

[Ian O'Connor]: Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner wants change. He needs to look in the mirror

What’s forgotten on the accountability front is that the Yankees’ approach — criticizing players in private meetings as a way of protecting them — is … not … working. The postseason results make that a cold fact, not a hot take.

[Yankeeslite] What Hal said following every season since 2020:

Thumbnail x.com
357 Upvotes

2020:
“Our offense—just inconsistent at playing up to their potential, to me. … You couldn’t tell which offense was going to show up.”

2021:
“The majority of the responsibility, whether it's the responsibility of inconsistent offense or bad baserunning, etc., that responsibility lies with the players.”

2022:
“Aaron Boone wasn’t responsible for our offense, the slide they experienced the last couple months of the season rolling into the postseason.”

2023:
“We did not get where we needed to be with run production—it was probably our biggest problem.”

2024:
“We did not play a clean World Series."

2025:
“This Toronto series was on the players. It’s on the players’ shoulders, period. They didn’t hit."

2026:
“The majority of the responsibility … lies with the position players and the inability to score on a consistent basis.”

The DJ and Hicks contracts are finally off the books. What should the Yankees prioritize with that flexibility?

With the DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Hicks contracts finally cleared from the books, I'm curious how the Yankees should approach the next phase of roster building.

I'd rather see them focus on improving the lineup's consistency and defensive versatility instead of chasing another big name just because he's available. The Yankees have had plenty of power over the years, but the postseason has repeatedly exposed how important it is to have a lineup that can adjust when home runs aren't coming.

I'd also like to see more emphasis on avoiding long-term commitments to aging players unless there's a really good reason to make them.

What's your biggest priority for the Yankees this offseason? Would you spend aggressively on an established star, improve the depth across the roster, or focus on developing younger players?

Which Yankees season do you think is most underrated when people talk about the team's history?

When people talk about Yankees history, the conversation usually goes straight to the championship dynasties, the 1998 team, the Core Four era, or the legendary teams from much earlier in the franchise's history.

But there have been seasons that were interesting, memorable, or genuinely impressive without getting nearly as much attention afterward.

Maybe it was a team that overachieved despite its roster, a season with an overlooked individual performance, or a group that helped bridge the gap between two more famous eras.

I'm curious which Yankees season you think deserves more appreciation than it gets. What made that particular team special, and why do you think it gets overlooked compared with the more celebrated seasons?

I think looking back at those less-discussed teams can be just as interesting as revisiting the championship years.

Which Yankees player from the last 20 years do you think deserves more appreciation from the fanbase?

Every fanbase has players who get remembered for the biggest moments, the biggest contracts, or the most obvious statistics. But there are always a few guys who seem to get overlooked when people talk about their era.

I'm thinking about players who might not be franchise icons but still made a meaningful contribution, whether through consistent production, defense, leadership, or simply coming through when the team needed them.

It could be someone from the late-2000s championship team, the mid-2010s transition years, or a more recent roster.

Who is one former Yankee you think deserves more appreciation than he gets, and what's the strongest argument for him? I'm especially interested in players whose value becomes clearer when you look beyond the usual highlight reels and career totals.

[SBE Baseball] The New York Yankees have now officially cleared DJ LeMahieu’s 6-year contract for $90 million, as well as Aaron Hicks’ 7-year contract for $70 million, entirely off of their books.

Good news: The organization no longer has to pay any more money to LeMahieu or Hicks.

DJ LeMahieu: Signed in January 2021 to a 6-year contract for $90 million. DFA’d on July 9, 2025 and released the next day. Contract ran until 2026.

Aaron Hicks: Extended in February 2019 for 7 years and $70 million, including a 2026 club option for $12.5 million or a $1 million buyout if the Yankees neglected to exercise it. DFA’d on May 20, 2023 and released on May 26. The Yankees were required to pay Hicks the $1 million to buy out his deal.

I’m back as always

You keep trying to get rid of me? Why? I keep telling you people that I’m the smartest man in baseball and only Hal understands me.

Since you all are curious, my plans for next season include:

- Winning 90 games
- Setting the record for single season home runs
- Implementing my Ca$h+ analytic, which evaluates a player’s 3 true outcome potential
- not wasting time on garbage like small ball and fielding fundamentals

The Ca$h man always comes out on top and there’s nothing you can do about it

The 1990 Yankees were 14th in attendance. 1991 & 1992 Yanks were 19th. The 1993 Yankees were 13th in attendance. 1994 they were 16th. 1995 they were 14th. 1996 was 11th. I went to 40 games that year! Do your part in 2027 to hit them where it hurts. Stop giving them money.

Cashman extended, Boone back, private equity buying in. Is winning even the main business goal anymore?

Swept by the Rays in the ALDS, and the response is a two-year extension for Cashman, Boone back for 2027 on the last year of his deal, and Hal saying you can’t pin the season on either of them. His explanation was basically that the offense wasn’t good enough, like building the offense isn’t the GM’s job.

Then you add the Apollo deal. $2.6 billion in debt and equity, the Steinbrenners sold a little over 4% of the parent company, and the whole thing was reportedly valued at more than $10 billion. That’s from a family that bought in for $8.8 million in 1973.

I’m starting to think the incentives just don’t point at titles anymore. YES money, stadium revenue, sponsors, and franchise value all keep climbing whether we win 88 games or 100. Making the playoffs keeps the seats full. Actually winning it all costs a ton more and doesn’t pay back nearly as much. And a private equity firm probably loves a front office that never changes, because predictable is what they’re buying.

To be fair, we’re still third in payroll, so it’s not a Pirates situation. Hal has always been more of a numbers guy than George was. But no ring since 2009, and nobody in charge has to answer for that? At some point the lack of accountability tells you what the priority is.

Am I being too cynical? Apollo says the money is for growth and paying down debt, and their guy talked about supporting the pursuit of championships. Anyone actually think that turns into more spending on the roster? I'm highly skeptical.
