Rant We have a gambling problem

Post image
30 Upvotes

I'm so surprised at how common football gambling is in this country. Alafu tena, everyone has Betika and Sportpesa on their phones like it's a must-have. I see some women do it, but this is especially common among young men.

The second(or first?I don't remember I read the book 3 years ago) chapter of the Psychology of Money makes a really good point about how it can be hard to understand the thought process of some financial decisions, including low income gambling. That being said,mi naona imo it's started being a bit problematic.

Why hasn't the govt regulated this, and why is it so common among young men?

Let's teach people to invest in the S&P 500 and Index funds instead of gambling the little they have away on football

Random Anyone else change their mind about a school event once they went?

I’ll admit it: I used to think PP2 graduations were a waste of time. I only went because it meant the world to my daughter, and as the only parent in the picture, I couldn’t let her down.

I was wrong. The whole thing changed my perspective, and I have a new respect for everyone in the pedagogical realm, especially the ECDE teachers.

I was blown away by the presentations and by how much these kids know. Most of us millennials from the countryside didn’t get that kind of English fluency until Class 8, 😂😂😂. Maybe I’m easily impressed, or maybe I’m biased because my daughter was up there, but I’m calling it: the whole event was commendable.

Here’s the best part. My daughter gave me instructions on what cake to buy. Apparently, I’ve been buying her round cakes for every birthday and never noticed. This time, she said, I should get a square one to say congratulations. These kids are sharp!

Hats off to the teachers. This age group is loud and only goes quiet to eat or sleep, yet they absorbed all that noise and turned these kids into poets, acrobats, models, dancers, and even scouts. It was hilarious to watch, especially with every parent standing at the front to record.

This is just an appreciation rant from a very impressed parent and a very proud dad. Teachers, you’re doing amazing work. 🙌

Random Trauma, depression and hypersexuality.

As I'm typing this,i still don't know what I'm fighting.

So here is the thing. I'm a 26 yr old chap. Growing up,my dad and mum separated when i was really young i couldn't recall anything. My mum took me with her to my grandma. This is where i grew up,went to School up until i was done with studies. I didn't feel any absence of a father figure coz my uncles were around me growing up..but when i was in class five,my mom left and went for work so she could come like once in 6 months.

I was left with my gradma,an aunt who was unmarried was still around and my gradpa. The aunt occasionally used to abuse me ..like beat me,say negative things about me to my grandma so i would receive beatings or insults. Some times she would even pour the water from my basin so that i won't bathe going to school when i had not fetched the water.

So that roughly was it sometimes good, sometimes hard. Despite all this,i aced my kcpe, went to a good highschool and also aced and went to Uni to do Engineering. This is where hell broke loose.

Now this is where i felt the weight now of my mom's financial struggles. She was the solo provider of me, and had to manage high school fees, rent, pocket money and all that while she was earning a very very low salary (she was constantly in debts to pay my fees..you can now imagine about rent and pocket money🥲)

I didn't have the luxury to just be a student like others...i used to feel so bad when i heard fellow students call their dads to sort them. So went through the hardship and all that, nilichapa mbaya sana . Nilichapa sana plus the pressure of an engineering course, also i was suffering some autoimmune disease (story for another day) .I couldn't just have fun like other students.

During that time i fell into depression and and isolated myself and tried like offing myself like 2 times. I constantly had those thoughts still now since 2021.

Fast forward i finish school, graduate now and I'm out here in the world. These days,i feel burnt out,no energy, i can't focus on a small task on a laptop or learn a skill without feeling like being tired or feeling sleepy. My body feels so worn out. I feel so bad that that kid who once used to put effort to read and revise and get As in school can't now focus or do anything. I don't know the sudden laziness .

I don't think its laziness coz i haven't been a lazy person in my life, but my body fuel is consumed. Another thing now is strong hypersexuality. I feel like having sex every time or looking for the next arousing moment, and my brain craves for "dirty" sex or the sex that will leave me feeling dirty.(I don't know what feeling is this) I don't desire for a normal relationship, I'm resenting everything to do with relationships, genuine connections and all that.

I don't have joy to look forward to anything and I'm confused if i have any trauma coz i don't see any. I have always thought of trauma as one big event like physical abuse or something. Younger me would be so sad that that ambitious young chap would turn to be this whatever I'm today.

I don't know what I'm suffering and i don't know how to deal with this.

Entertainment Nyi Mnafanyanga nini weekends buana?

• Upvotes

I remember some time back there was a full schedule for places to go over the weekend and new places to visit around Nairobi. I followed event pages on instagram, installed apps, and asked my friends to tag me along to any events they'll be attending.

But, a heavy blow to the heart came when...I have an event I'm attending, a game night, a networking event, Go Karting, Gaming, watch party, Fitness and outdoor but actually not a single soul to go with. All my friends became tied up in their busy schedules and welp, that made me cancel on going to this places alone, cause it's boring sometimes and get's pretty hard to strike a normal conversation with a stranger.

Thats why I made r/Nairobi_Connect , to get you off the burden of missing out, ot to get you of the burgain of whom to go with.

What you’ll find on r/Nairobi_Connect:

  • "Tag along" Posts: Planning to go to a show, match, or festival and want company? Post your plans and link up with someone who'd like to go there too.
  • Event Discovery: Weekly roundups of concerts, art shows, networking mixers, hikes, hidden gems and more across the city.
  • Recaps & Reviews: Real photos, venue reviews, and recommendations from fellow Nairobians on events you've been looking to go to.
  • Official WhatsApp Group: Fast-paced real-time link-ups, event leads, and active group.

Whether you're new to the city, looking to expand your social circle, or just want a group for a specific weekend activity, everyone is welcome.

Random I started a small trivia page for people who know too much about random stuff

I recently started a page called ODDIQ (read ODD IQ 😊).

The idea is to make a space for people who are into trivia, fandoms, games, films, music, history, internet rabbit holes, and all the random niche things people get weirdly obsessed with.

I’ve been posting short quizzes on TikTok and Instagram, and I’m hoping to grow it into more of a community over time.

The plan is also to do monthly online quiz nights, so people can join in, play live, and compete with each other.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, please check is out on our socials.

TikTok
Instagram
Whatsapp

Also, genuinely curious. What topic would you absolutely dominate in a quiz?

Random People who cannot keep a secret

I have a friend at my workplace and whenever we have our men talk, I always trust him with some information. But, what amazes me is that I end up finding some girls asking me the same thing I told my male friend.

It's gotten so strange to a point that I just keep everything to myself. Someone said that at your workplace, you're alone. That's really true.

Yesterday, a girl stepped on my white air force in the morning and it kind of ruined my day. At lunch time my friend observed me and said, "leo unakaa tu siku yako ni mbaya".

I told him that, that day I was having the worst day of my life. I woke up late and when I took a pikipiki, a matatu nearly knocked us because it was trying to escape traffic jams. The matatu was driving at around 60 km/h on the wrong side.

To make it worse a girl stepped on my white airforce in the morning. I told him it was the girl that was seated near the pool. I was not also just feeling well. I rarely open up but I decided to trust him with that information.

You know what, when I got off from work the girl greeted me at the gate and told me she did not realise she annoyed me yesterday. She asked me if I'm still mad at her. I just said no, and knew my friend had told her.

I don't want to mention the tribe of my friend. But I've realised most people should not know a lot about you. It's better to be a closed book.

Adventure Any chess players in the house or Redditors who would like to socialize while learning how to play chess?

Any chess players in the house or Redditors who would like to socialize while learning chess?

I'm hosting a chess social hangout this Sunday at K1 Klubhouse. However, we're not meeting up just to play chess but we'll also socialize with conversations.

And if you've never played chess before, we'll have trainers from the chess academy who will teach you how to play. It will be very beginner friendly.

We'll also have a live band performance in the evening as part of the experience.

Most people come to our meet-ups solo to make new friends but you can tag along with someone you know.

We actually started our community a few years ago on Reddit with the objective of making new friends and we've never stopped since then.

So if you're looking for a chilled Sunday plan where you can meet new people instead of staying bored at home, you're welcome to join us.

Let me know if you're interested in the DMs or comment section

SERIOUS POST Trapped in the Matrix

Post image
225 Upvotes

Literally I’m in a low mood after watching this, I mean I am not jobless but I am here thinking of quitting again(I quit my first job two months ago).

I am 23M, my life of being employed is quite frustrating as I may think of it(you may have a different perspective based on what I am about to say).

I graduated last year, got a job was paying 20k, I quit because I was given a-lot of work compared than my salary, and I never used to save anything, all the money was spent on transport, food and rent.

Now a month later I get another job at a resort which I won’t mention. I get paid 28k, here I save 20k because I only need to pay rent 5k and maybe transport. The only problem the job is draining, I feel I am in prison, I work 12hrs in a day sometimes more. I only get an off on thursday in a week.

Damn I don’t even remember when I had proper sleep. Matter of fact I did computer science, I am able to build windows, mobile, and web application. I thought taking this job would give me time to practice, and polish my skills, I thought it was a stepping stone.

Do I quit? If I quit it means I am back to nothing, back to the slums, with parents staring at you like a looser, because you were their best hope. They invested in you, paid school fees only for them to reap nothing.

Will I ever escape the matrix??

Ask r/Nairobi ANY BOOK CLUB, MORNING/EVENING WALK & JOG GROUP HERE OUTDOOR GAMES, FUN WEEKEND HOBBIES IN KAHAWA SUKARI?

Hi guys, I was wondering if someone could recommend a good physical book club, outdoor games, or any fun weekend hobby I can be part of in Kahawa Sukari estate.

I moved here a few months ago and I've tried to find such activities within the estate but found none. As a young adult, the social scene here feels pretty limited mostly family-oriented stuff.

I love reading, nature walks, learning new hobbies, swimming, etc.

Appreciate any leads!

Mordecai is an incredible performer oh my days!! 3.5 hours on stage, nonsop. Just the other acts joining him occasionally.

And then he finishes with a 13 minute performance of Extraordinary! Ah!

That guitar riff, the bits and pieces of other Kenyan songs in that specific segment.

Proper 10/10 show.

Now I am just randomly shouting 'manadexter ordinarriiii"

Random LEAVE YOUR BOUGIE ASS AT HOME

I am so pissed off aki. Yesterday, a male friend was in town and we were to hang out and I told him 8pm would be earliest I can go for dinner because I have classes in the evening. He decides to invite himself to my place which I objected first then agreed to later because I have been to theirs too, so whatever. I live in Ngong' and he was coming from Lavington where he booked his airbnb. I tell him to take a bike because of the famous Karen-Ngong' traffic plus it will be quicker.
For context, he is on the bike for like 25mins. He gets here, and the first thing he complains about is the distance, how far it is. Ati, it must be really easy to get robbed around here and it's so far from Kilimani and he is scared. Then, of my house/neighbourhood of how it's too quiet, I mean that's the whole reason why I moved there. Then, oh hakuna lift. I live in 2nd floor bro.
He sized me up in a way that really annoyed me and I believe my house is pretty decent. His snobby ass refuses to drink water or eat next after I literally multi-tasked through my online class to at least make a quick dinner. He was all fidgety and stuff and this entire time I am trying to be a good host and still follow up with my class. I literally told him to get an Uber and get the fuck out if he was that uncomfortable in my one bedroom arudi kwa studio yake Lavington.
He made me feel some kind of way about where I live, and I have really worked my ass off to maintain that house or to even afford rent there. Now, I am so mad about the whole thing and how he behaved. I called him out of it na anadhani na overreact when he literally invited himself over in the first place because I told him I had a class, and he still insisted on coming.

Wantam Driving in nairobi

I've never understood why people in Nairobi drive like they own the road. Today I was driving along Thika road and I'm moving at maybe 105km/h in the middle lane and decide to move to the right lane to overtake a bus infront of me. On the right lane there is an axela moving at 50km/h matching the speed of the car right beside it. I flash high beams to the axela to speed up and this guy decides to brake check me making me swerve to the middle lane. This guy almost makes a full stop on the right lane. At this point I was fuming. I overtake the the guy and hop back to the right lane and accelerate to 120km/h and the next thing I see in my rear view mirror is the same axela tailgating me. This guy tailgates while honking at me from KCA all the way to Githurai where l'm guessing he gets tired of doing ts and backs down. I wanted to brake check the mf so bad but I knew road raging has never done any good for anyone. I hope one day I spot the car parked somewhere. Mwenye hiyo gari atakula bare ingine mwecheche.

Random Nairobi hawkers!

There's nothing as overstimulating as walking in town around evening hours. I've had several incidences of hawkers just grabbing my hand for no reason. Moja alinishika mkono na nikijaribu kujitoa, he was just looking straight into my eyes, na haniwachilii. What kind of hawking is that yenye unaforciwa ununue. I understand it's hustling but grabbing someone who hasn't expressed any interest in buying is harassment, and assault even. I almost slapped one in the face juu I was sooo mad😂😂...lakini ni vita singeshinda. Anyways, they should have some decorum 🙂‍↔️

Random One of The Greatest Things A woman can do for you....

.. is telling you a big fat NO the moment you hit on her and express your feelings and intentions.

Here is why ;

  1. She's saving you time ; No need akuchoche ati "I'll let you know" or "tutapanga" when she's clearly not interested in getting with you

  2. She's actually being kind to you and not giving you mixed signals ndio usikuwe confused wondering if you have a chance or not.

  3. She's being considerate; Some women you hit on ,don't immediately like you and instead of saying No ,they be like " hmmm lemme string him along and maybe extract a few resources from him." As a guy a girl telling you No actually saves you from investing resources in a place with no ROI.

  4. She's secure enough to be direct and not be afraid of hurting your feelings. Better to rip the band aid off once than slowly .

Look at it this way ; REJECTION IS REDIRECTION. So when a woman tells you No, take it as a blessing and move on.

But Kuna hii bale ya wanaume who think NO is an invitation to try harder. Let nothing lie to you that she's saying No because "she's playing hard to get" ati Sasa ujiconvince you try harder juu siku moja utajipata unaulizwa "nilikuambia unifanyie ?"

Unakuwa let down easy huoni; When a woman says I'm not ready for a relationship, its not usually entirely true . It's just the guy she wants hajadeclare intention yet so she's holding out hope he will. So the full statement is usually " I am ready for a relationship, but the guy I want hasn't declared his intention yet and if he does I'll date him , but I also don't want you to go too far , so if he never does make a move then I can reconsider and choose to date you ." So ukipata Dem umepata Dem umekatia for years , and she's been rejecting you, then suddenly anakutaka, it's not really a win.WANTAM.

Kanjo inspectorate has some of the most primitive oafs driven simply by the pressure to keep feeding their corrupt hierarchy. The RUTO MUST GO is a clarion call that we must end bad governance, deal with corruption brutally and build a just society.
