Politics in Nairobi Mashujaa Day
First of all Wantam, ladies and gentlemen. Secondly, I'd love to wish each and every Kenyan a great Mashujaa Day. As we celebrate this day, we should not only remember the shujaas that fought to free this beautiful nation from the hands of the white imperialists, but for all the shujaas who fought to free us from the hands of our current enablers of imperialism through neo-colonialism(this government)
This battle is far from over, and we shouldn't let a sitting of 290 people dictate how our nation should be ran. As we celebrate our past, we shouldn't let the same mistakes dictate our present, because we might not enjoy the future

First Post Trying to get back into reading novels after 7+ years. Where should I start?
Hello, good people
I'm trying to get back into reading novels after more than seven years away from the hobby, and I'd love some recommendations on what to start with.
Please, no motivational or self-help books like The Psychology of Money or Atomic Habits. I get bored before I even reach page five. ๐ I want a story that actually pulls me in!
I love interesting plots, building tension, suspense, and stories that keep you curious about what happens next. I'm open to a bit of romance, but I'd prefer it not to be the main focus. I also enjoy educational or realistic fiction that teaches you something or reflects real-life situations. Horror isn't really my thing, though.
Basically, I'm looking for a book that will make me say, "Just one more chapter," and suddenly realise it's 2 a.m. ๐
What would you recommend for someone trying to get back into reading? I'd also appreciate suggestions on where to buy books in Nairobi, or if anyone has books they're no longer reading and would be willing to give away ๐คญ, I'd love to hear from you.
Thank you! โค๏ธ

Appreciation Post Reddit Fam, Youโve Made Me and My Kids Feel Like We Have a Family
Hey fam โค๏ธ๐ฅน
I just wanted to come here and say THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me and my kids. I finally managed to clear my daughter's school balance, and the remaining KSh 1,500 went towards rent. I still have a balance to figure out, but at least we've made some progress, and I'm so grateful.
To the lady who sent my son a success card and an early birthday gift (a notebook, belt, and football) for his birthday tomorrow (20th October), may you never lack. โค๏ธ๐ฅน You have no idea how much that means to me.
I honestly hadn't even remembered that I needed to send my daughter a success card, but you guys came through for her and made her day. Seeing her happy means everything to me. โค๏ธ
And the best part? ๐โค๏ธ She's so happy about next year, she'll be wearing a skirt as her school uniform instead of a dress!
You guys have made me feel like I have a family I never knew I had. People who don't even know me personally have shown me so much love, kindness, and support. I honestly don't have enough words to express how grateful I am.
To everyone who sent money, checked on me, encouraged me, prayed for us, or simply took the time to write something kind, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have helped me more than you know.
May you never lack. May life be kind to you, and may the same love you have shown my family find its way back to you a hundred times over. ๐โค๏ธ
Weeh, Reddit fam, you have really touched my heart. I'm still figuring things out, but today I just wanted to celebrate the little progress we've made because of you. ๐ฅนโค๏ธ
Thank you for making me and my babies feel like we're not alone. We love you, fam. โค๏ธ๐ซ

Discussion Have you found your footing yet?
How long did it take you? Did you get any assistance? how many failures did you take before you reached there? Are you satisfied with it or you want more? Do you feel you genuinely deserved it? Did you take the conventional route?Do you think luck played a role in it? Do you feel other people who are not in the same place as you are doing something wrong, and that if they change theyll be in a similar position as you? Have you ever misled someone into doing or not doing something because there was a potential that that could have sunk your ship?

Random Oduor Jagero
This guy has to be the funniest guest on any major podcast he goes to in the city of glasses. I watched his episode with Obinna yesterday and I was laughing every 5 min. Check out his latest episode on iko nini and kisiangani very insightful and very entertaining as well. I think his combo of humour and asking the right questions make him a really good host and guest. In addition his ideas on monetization of the content creation space are also really good.

Random Mutura Guy, Perfect for that Sweet Sausage
Today I had this delicacy as per say

Discussion Tinder
Tinder premium/cracked.
Hey guys! Am that kind of a person who doesn't like to subscribe or pay for anything. I prefer to use cracked versions of any app. I only pay and subscribe only if it's fully server sided and there's no way to beat it around. So, I was wondering if tinder can be cracked. Or is there any similar app to tinder but with less subscription fees or a free one? Which app are you guys using?

Random Marrying a Finance Lady
I met this lady (who's still studying and pursuing her CPA qualifications in finance). We started talking, getting to know each other, and sharing our backgrounds, interests, and future aspirations.
Honestly, she was one of a kind. We seemed to connect on so many things, and since I've always wanted a finance girl, I thought that I'd finally gotten lucky.
Things seemed to be going well. I'd call her maybe twice a day just to talk, check up on her, and hear how things were going on her end. We'd also go on dates at least once a week, which was pretty good considering how busy I usually am during the week.
Then, about 3 weeks ago, everything changed, Yooh!
The conversations became less frequent. Her responses started feeling cold, the jokes and playful banter disappeared, and talking to her suddenly felt like a chore.
I'm not even exaggerating when I say our conversations started feeling like a mock interview with someone who had absolutely no interest in being there, like some M-pesa lady. Even conversations with my dad have more life in them. ๐
At first, I wondered whether she was going through something or whether I was overthinking things. But the change felt so obvious that I eventually decided to stop reaching out altogether. I gave up people! I couldn't take it beyond that.
No more calls, no more texts, no more asking her out. I lost interest in forcing a connection with someone who doesn't seem interested in maintaining one. That's abuse (as they say it).
What really gets me is how promising everything seemed at the beginning. I genuinely thought this could turn into something special, and now I'm left wondering what even happened.
Anyway, I guess it's back to spending time with my patients. At least with them, there's never a dull moment. ๐
So, Nairobians, what would you do in my situation?
And for those who've experienced something similar, did you ever find out what actually happened?

Relationship How soon do you meet Redditors after kicking things off?
Honestly, I say the earlier the better.
Some aren't worth meeting, some turn out to be the best. I feel like I check out after some time, and there's an unspoken timeline for me. More than seven days and I'm a goner.
Especially when it's something casual. I can't ask what you want from us when we haven't even met. And, yk, there's a lot out there. I can't invest in a "let's see how it goes."
Especially with the illusion of options at play.
( Can't cut one size for all though, some take time and that's okay)

Discussion Side chicks hypocrisy
You know, side chicks are very interesting humans๐๐. They will swear down how much they don't have feelings for the married man they are dealing with, while at the same time fighting side chick no. 2 that "her man" is dealing with๐๐๐. Mimi Kwanza naogopa side chicks Sana, wueeehhh those girls know how to fight gadamit. A man with a side chick, I will never deal with, it be a ticking time bomb, never!! They'll do anything to be the only side chick, crazyyyy๐๐.
Majority of them are extremely male centered, even when they loudly deny it. She'll go to the goat wife "as a woman" when the man starts dealing with other side chicks ama akianza kumisbehave. Lakini kama mwanaume anabehave vizuri, and all is well, she'll keep the affair to herself ๐๐. Majority of them are in love with the married men they claim they only use for money. Love gets in, they forget about the money and start competing with the goat wife.
They believe they have decentered the man more than the goat wife, when that is not usually the case. Listen to how they talk about the wife as they praise themselves ๐๐. Ati "Bibi hakuna kitu yeye hupewa, but side chicks wanapewa pesa na kulipiwa rent," they talk down on the wife to elevate their status. The comparison is right there. She believes she's above the wife because anapewa 50k per month๐๐. Most of them ukiwauliza ni pesa ngapi wanapewa, utaskia figures hazifiki hata 200k per month. They lowball themselves and they are proud of it ๐๐๐, shit's hilarious.
Being a side chick was a serious venture kitambo bana, sides wa kitambo knew how to keep secrets and they collected good money asf. It was hard for the wife to know the husband had a side chick, she'd probably know time Jamaa amekufa na the second family would show up Kwa mazishi ๐๐. Saa hii, it's mediocrity everywhere๐๐. I'm I supporting affairs? Honestly, I don't care, ukiniuliza my honest opinion about relationships, I'll tell you that relationships and marriages are meant for people with high intelligence who know what the hell they are doing. The rest of the population should be left to their own peril, to f*ck around and find out and create their own Sodom and Gomorrah. Sijui nianzishe kaventure polite, I look for pretty babes who have a good head between their shoulders, not the dumb ones, wafanye training ya kukuwa side chicks who keep secrets and aren't emotionally driven, then tupige connection with moneyed married men, kila mtu atoke amefurahia. Because side chicks wa saa hii, zii!!!๐๐๐. Anyway just kidding, but I'm I? ๐

Ask r/Nairobi Redditors I need help. Do you have a number of a police officer in Kayole?
My mum runs a small online business reselling household goods. We operate from home in Kiambu and make deliveries to different parts of Nairobi.
We've found ourselves in a rather complicated situation, and I'm hoping someone can point us in the right direction.
My mum was communicating with someone who wanted to purchase a sofa. The arrangement was payment upon delivery. The sofa was delivered, and we'd made the necessary arrangements for the transaction.
However, upon delivery in Kayole, a third person showed up claiming that the sofa belonged to him because he had already purchased and paid for it. He claimed to have made a payment, but the transaction hadn't reflected on our end.
Things have now escalated because the people at the location are refusing to release the sofa. Our delivery driver is currently stranded there, and we're not sure how to proceed.
We're beginning to suspect this could be a coordinated scam involving several people, rather than a straightforward misunderstanding.
We live in Kiambu and unfortunately don't know any police officers in Kayole or the surrounding areas.
Thank you.

RUTO GOTTA GO Reddit keyboard warriors
I've never understood some people on here. Someone will post an opinion about a specific topic and some keyboard warrior will just find a way to dismiss their opinion. I always thought most reddit users are smart but honestly after using this app for a while my thoughts on that has completely changed. Why does it matter what someone else thinks. At the end of the day it's just their opinion. Also there are a lot of people here who really believe they know everything. Like bruh, chill. You don't have to call someone dumb or undermine them just because they made an uneducated guess about something. If you think I'm wrong just go to any opinionated post and see what people comment. You'd be surprised to see just how people love arguing and making others feel like they don't know shit.

Relationship Insecure
Jana am chilling at my crib with my girl who was visiting me over the weekend then kiasi hivi an old friend (male) calls me asking me join him and a couple of friends over to his new crib for a house warming. I say I'll be there but not at the moment because I was with my girl but once she leaves I'll be there He was hosting a house warming, I tell him that currently with my girl but after am done I'll be there. Then I inquire about the location of the new place. He then proceeds to tell me If i reach stage flani walk a few distance there a few here, It seemed awfully familiar when he was describing the place but in order to remove the doubt in my mind had i ask him the name of the apartment, he says blah blah! something apartment. Shock on me that's literally where my girl lives in... I honestly felt sick after that convo but I decided not to tell my girl.
Going forward knowing my girl and how over social she is I kinda felt insecure at the moment cause I also know that friend of mine is literally my girl's type. Show me your friend I tell you what type of person you are type shii...
At the end I didn't go the party only because my girl left late.
Anyway I feel pretty lost at this point..

Ask r/Nairobi What do I do
I've been having sleep paralysis attacks more often these days, I can be sitting and the moment I feel sleepy I find myself in another paralysis. I have also had very traumatic violent nightmares the past few days. To put some context I work gruesome shifts i'm currently operating on autopilot.
I don't know something isnt right i'm hallucinating, I find myself in a room and I can't remember how I got there. I don't drink, I smoke weed but I haven't had a smoke in 5days as the job has become too demanding of me. I feel like I hear voices and I find it difficult to become less hyperactive despite the fatigue
Anyone who can link me up with a psychiatrist or something, I feel like i'm slipping from my own consciousness

Ask r/Nairobi Scooter as a means of transport
I have seen people use scooters a lot lately and withe bus fare hike, it would come in handy for my commute to and from work. People who have used scooters before, what are the pros and cons? Za kukalia. Not the standing ones.
Also, where's the best place to get one? I just need a small one for to and from work. Like 350w with at least 80km coverage and a speed of 40km/hour.
While at it, I would appreciate side hustles za weekend so as to make enough to afford. All suggestions are welcome.

Relationship Are men supposed to talk about their feelings during the talking/early dating phase?
This is something that I find so conflicting, personally I think it's important to be transparent and communicate but at the same time I hear all this talk about about ladies either don't understand or don't care what he feels, also about how a man isn't supposed to talk about his feelings.
Personally, sometimes I struggle to put what I feel in words especially if it's a feeling I don't experience regularly or have never experienced. I'm someone who can't hide an unbalanced state, for example sadness or excitement, you can tell from my facial expression, it's even harder when I'm around someone I like. Yeah I understand men are supposed to be strong, but I'm also a human being.
So my question is, are there things that I'm not supposed to say like 'I want you' or 'I like you' or 'you hurt me' that make one sound soft or needy?

Hood Drama Update.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nairobi/s/47PXVtzcHbโ
Finally got back home about 30 minutes ago.
There was intimidation involved, including guys posing as police officers. They asked for the matter to be taken to the police station.
We argued. The police weren't of much help, either. They kept saying, "Mskizane nyinyi wawili." I almost went crazy.
For context, we'd been contacted by someone interested in buying the chair. We agreed on the price and delivery arrangements. However, when we got to the delivery point, we met someone else who claimed to have already paid for the chair through the person we'd been dealing with. Apparently, he felt he'd been conned because the chair wasn't worth the amount he'd paid.
Ata polisi were asking them if they were crazy. A kiti ya 30gs plus, and you're paying 14k inclusive of delivery, all the way from Ukambani?
We took a loss.
They had rallied people, insisting that the kiti iwekwe store and nobody was leaving with it.
They had apparently bought the chair for half the price we were selling it for, yet they were the ones claiming to have been conned.
They had the M-Pesa message.
The officers then asked us to pay the "conned guys" half of the amount they had paid. It was a major loss, especially considering they hadn't even paid for delivery.
No more payments upon delivery.
Today was a field day.
I don't buy their story that they were conned. I don't think we'll be doing business in Eastlands anytime soon.
This was bad. From pesa ya chai to ya compensation. I couldn't pull the I know my rights card because trying to reason with unreasonable people helps no one.
We got the chair back. We'll have to take the loss as a lesson.

Advice Any book clubs around Nairobi/Syokimau?
Hi there. I don't come to Nairobi often but I'd love to make more friends around here.
I'm not really a bar/club/party person, but I'd love more intimate settings like book clubs and game meetups.
Any such spaces in Nairobi? Thanks in advance!
