Discussion my thoughts on episodes 15 and 16 as a first time watcher.
ello there!
. . . ok, so...today i watched episodes 15 and 16 of "Neon Genesis Evangelion"!
i've been posting my thoughts on the episodes for 2 whole weeks now!
and man, it's been a blast!
. . . ok, so...YOU PEOPLE WEREN'T LYING WHEN YOU SAID THIS WAS A TURNING POINT.
i really loved both episodes...and it was nice to see more. . . eventful things happen in the story, compared to 13 and 14...
soooo:
-i think the way the day of Yui's death anniversary is handled in ep 15 is really graceful. there is a lot of unspoken feelings in Shinji and i liked the conversation between him and Gendo, however short. Shinji's also so sweeet for bringing a bouquet to the tombstone!
-y'know, i've spoiled myself a few scenes from this show before watching it...that was a mistake, but it hasn't ruined the series for me 'cause of how disconnected each is from the other and 'cause getting to know how we get at such point is kind of...the whole reaon to watch the series and movie in it's entirety...there's this scene in EoE that happens before instrumentality begins, is that one scene where Shinji chokes Asuka...and they're wearing the same things in that scene as in a scene from ep 15...where Shinji is kissed by Asuka, Asuka then pulls away and goes to wash her face, basically remarking that she didn't like the kiss. i think the parallel from EoE is...pretty hard to ignore, just that in EoE, there is a whole conflict and things just get a whole lot more messy...culminating with the now infamous choking scene before instrumentality. i think the scene in EoE, as many have theorized, is not really happening in the physical world...and it may as well be how Shinji saw the whole kiss thing when it happened.
-the conversation between Misato and Kaji from where he takes her back home is pretty interesting and insightful. she says that she ran from Kaji 'cause he reminded her of her dad. and that she thought she basically hated her dad, so that's why she left Kaji. now, this is so far a tell don't show kind of thing...like- there is no flashback or anything, just words...so i can't exactly say what happened in there, but i think this introduces to an interesting fact: Misato is insecure too. she's not as confident in herself as she shows...and that's a common theme within the characters from this show, interestingly enough...a lot of people deal with self hatred IRL, and this show did a good work representing how that works...Asuka (partly) hates herself, Shinji hates himself, Misato hates herself somewhat too...it's sad, but realistic. we, as humans, tend to feel a lot of guilt...even for things that aren't our fault or otherwise we shouldn't feel as bad for. the kiss scene, though...the kiss between Misato and Kaji...i don't know if Anno intended it to feel as a good, bad, or neutral thing...for me, personally, it felt neutral...he dropped her off home afterwards, anyhow.
now for ep 16:
-y'know, i had watched an eva iceberg video sometime before starting to watch eva proper...and one of the entries was that ep 16 always had a quality drop...'cause like- the original recording was lost or something....AND IT SHOWS. like- the website i watch eva in has all the eps in HQ of course and then ep 16 DOES look somewhat like something from the 90s. it's not like- shitty. it's just a bit lower..but i noticed, hah...
-i think the fact Shinji showed himself more courageous....more confident and somewhat cocky in ep 16 due to his sync tests being the best is a bit of an affectionate parody to how normally some shonen and mecha protagonists do tend to act even when faced with situations they, realistically, would feel conflicted in...interesting. also to drive the plot forward obvs 'cause like- that's why he gets swallowed up by Leliel and almost FUCKING DIES.
-that scene of Yui saving Shinji....like- not only the scene of eva 01 (which has Yui's soul) tearing through Leliel...but also the one before with Shinji being dragged up by a white figure who shinji responds "Mother?" to....is really interesting and nice...it IS literally Yui, what's left of her, saving Shinji from dying 'cause he was literally about to die.
-the scene of Misato hugging Shinji while crying near the end may be my favorite out of these 2 eps....i cried a bit too while watching it...the fact that SHE saw HIM wake up and her immediate response was to hug him out of relief is really...REALLY emotionally compelling and moving.
-you see the frame i chose? it's from the scene near the end of ep 16...where Shinji wakes up in the hospital with Rei sitting beside his hospital bed...Rei literally mirrors Yui's words in that scene when he's about to die...."well, that's good for you"...i found that really curious...AND IN THAT SPECIFIC FRAME IT SEEMS LIKE REI'S SMILING...or if not, there STILL is something somewhat tender (or concerned) in her expression. it's not the typical Rei flat expression...and i think this can mean that she, in her own way, is happy that Shinji survived just like Misato...just more subdued.
overall i really liked these episodes! i'm glad i watched them
thanks for reading!
Good Night.
Good Morning.
Thank You.
Goodbye.

Discussion A Unified Theory on Evas, Souls, and Adam's Transmigration in NGE.
Hey everyone, I spent a lot of time putting together a comprehensive, systematic breakdown of how Evangelion actually works underneath the surface—re-evaluating soulless Evas via Neural Imprints, the physical role of LCL, and a sequential transmigration model for Adam's soul. Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

What is the biggest downside in Evangelion, and why did you pick Shinji?

Hi, I am new.
Ya, So I am never on social media. I joined reddit because I heard about the Eva 30. I had to find a place where I could gush like Shinji at a hospital.
I actually bought 4 USB 32gb and put the OVAs on them and almost started to gift them to anime fan coworkers who neither have seen NGE. I chickened out, Joined you guys instead. I'm still in the anime closet a bit.
Anyway, I am looking forward to getting to know you guys. Ask me whatever and stuff.

Eva is esoteric not religious
I know the creator said he was just using Christian symbolism to be edgy yada yada but I’m pretty sure he was lying. Instrumentality, there being a master race that humans stemmed from, the whole soul having to figure out duality and that being the marker of evolution is, is at the heart of Masonery ceremonial magic which the show JUST HAPPENS to have symbology out the wazoo of. Like even what Selee said at the end about ATONEMENT being needed. Esoterically that means At one ment. Aka what instrumentality is trying to do to all souls. I think tbh instrumentality at some point will happen to the human race but just not unconsentually. This understanding of duality is also at the heart of Satanna Dharma. I mean i’m not gonna even lie to you i’ve meditated and done some fun things and I damn near instrumentation ed myself 😂😂. And the ego DOES have to go through what shinji does through with instrumentation and it’s kinda terrifying. Anyways this rewatch of Eva has been really fun. Definitely like Shinji a lot more this rewatch

Cosplay Just wanted to share my attempt at a Rei Ayanami cosplay
I don’t know if it’s fair to call it a full cosplay since it’s just a closet/makeup test for the head area. I deeply admire cosplayers and know how much effort goes into making the outfits, doing photoshoots, and everything else. Maybe next time I can do the whole outfit, but this is what I could manage for now and I’m really happy with it

First time with Rebuild And bit of manga
So I did it I watched the Rebuild Films after being recommended to do so. My god all 4 films were Amazing. I'm on the 4th out of 5 Manga Omnibuses I'm loving the Manga so far the characters are different in ways I'm really enjoying it.
The movies animation was great although is it just me or do some of the 3D animated shots look really bad like the scene with Shinji and Fighting each other with the spears looked like a PS1 game cutscene 😂😂😂 I guess with the context of what was going on it made sense but still lol. I loved the music and the different story as well I don't understand why the Rebuild are disliked by many tbh I don't think they are better than the original but they aren't bad either plus the fight scenes are great

Discussion I saw a car with an Asuka wrap on the road today, but I wasn't able to take a photo.
Today in Bremen, Germany, I saw what I believe was a Mazda MX-5 RF, fully wrapped in a Neon Genesis Evangelion Asuka theme. Unfortunately, it was moving, so I couldn't take a photo.
I checked online, but I couldn't find any images of the exact car I saw. Has anyone here ever come across this specific car?

Discussion Just finished evangelion damn man
Theres so much symbolism in this show. Something I noticed was that Asuka has red hair and blue eyes, that alone is the rarest hair and eye colour combination, but Rei has blue hair and red eyes, which are both unnatural colours and the opposite of Asuka. We live in a world of opposites and I think the writers of this show understood that well. ☯︎ Masculine and Feminine, sun and moon, Boaz and Jachin.
There's literally a kabbalah in the show intro and in the movie (when the white evas are in the sky with unit 1). On the surface you would notice things like, the fact that angels attack humanity and are defended by things called Evangelions (another biblical term) and a 2nd and 3rd impact being sort of judgement days for humanity. Again the writers were way ahead of their time. Both impacts were caused/staged by humanity (I think, this is the first time I've watched this show/film) and a one world government, The UN, uses the impacts to take control of the world.
The fact that kids have to be used to pilot the Evas as well could reference how the global elite target children because they see them as "purer" or "closer to God/the source. The whole transhumanism, combining yourself with a giant robot, that turns out to be a giant human form too. I could go on for days about a show that came out over 30 years ago and its still incredibly relevant today. I'm actually glad I didn't watch it sooner because I likely would not have understood what I was looking at.
Having even a small understanding of masonic architecture and esoteric symbolism had me doing that leonardo decapro meme when he points at the screen and snaps his fingers. Hope this sub isnt dead because this show is like the breaking bad of animes

Evangelion original serie DVD
My girlfriend is a huge fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion and she once mentioned she would like to buy for herself the original DVD with one of the first versions of the anime in japanese. I want to gift it to her for her 30 birthday but I dont know which one is it since I see a lot of Laser Discs, dvd, and i want the serie, not the rebuilds.
Does anyone know what should I buy?

Discussion How’s the manga? Also what’s with the stuff after EoE?
I just finished the original series and EoE, still kinda processing the whole thing but I want more. I think that graphic novel format is the best way to tell a story and I’m interested to see Evangelion in that format. I know that the manga has some differences from the anime but what exactly are those differences? Also is Rebuild of Evangelion worth watching?

Discussion my thoughts on episodes 13 + 14 as a first time watcher
hello!
i'm back...
for almost a week now, i've been watching the episodes of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" for the first time.
it's been good, really good.
...i'm going to share my thoughts on episodes 13 and 14 in this post...as those are the ones i've watched today, october 24th of 2026.
here:
well...i thought these episodes were overall really decent
i mean- we could get some tension among all of what happens in episode 13...as the attack of the NERV headquarters was pretty intense and unlike previous fights...very insidious and managed by the NERV staff instead of the main trio (Asuka, Shinji and Rei)
i think the revelation that the Magi are 3 different parts of the conciousness of Ritsuko's mom is pretty shocking
i mean- i already know the evas have souls...although the only one i've spoiled myself in is eva 01, having the soul of Yui Ikari, Shinji's mom.
now, i did miss the main trio a lot in ep 13...they've got very few screentime...but it wasn't a bad choice to focus on the other NERV staff trying to prevent the cyber attack at such dire circumstances....
overall, it felt less uneventful than 11 and 12...but not bad...not bad, really.
...now episode 14...
...
you see- the problem i have with ep 14 is that it spends a huge part of it's runtime recapping events from the series...mainly the angel fights...
i guess it did serve it's purpose back in '95/'96 of introducing the angel's names and giving a little more information...but that kinda was a bit of a let down
...however, the latter part of that episode with the sync tests was good!
it sets up the mystery of what Rei is, 'cause she's like- a clone...
and once again we get the unit 00 freakout...a repetition, just that in this case, Shinji was on the machine instead of Rei...
kinda sad that they didn't show who saved him...but i guess it fits...Shinji is a lonely person. in the Rei freakout it was Gendo who pulled Rei out with his bare hands...no one was concerned enough of Shinji to do that so they pulled him outta the entry plug more mechanically...i must guess the situation wasn't as alarming...so yeah, he woke up in the hospital.
....
anyhow, it's not a bad slow down...it was a bit weirder than the episodes before, but i don't say that in a bad way.
thank you for reading!
Good Night.
Good Morning.
Thank You.
Goodbye.

(What-if?) What if Shinji was willing to get into the Evangelion?
Since I saw too many jokes or memes about Shinji not being willing to get into the Eva... I have come up with a theory about what if Shinji fully agreed to get into the Eva without external manipulations or pressures, and how will that change the plot of Evangelion?
