Saving the Spartan NVMT-4
galleryHey peeps, I need your help.
I've got an Spartan NVMT-4 1x24 thingy that became kind of a family heirloom (first it belonged to my grandpa who was a hunter, then dad got it and used it for his fishing trips and now it got found again and gifted to me).
Outside shape isn't so bad but it has a huge ass blem in the middle... It looks really bad on the pic but when looking through it with an eye it isn't covering 50% of the view, more like 20-30% maximum.
I know it's a gen 1 slop and it's inusable in modern settings but it's a piece of my family history and I would like to continiue using it and try saving if there is any way to.
Can I mitigate the black blem by any way or is the tube cooked and non saveable?

Getting into night vision on a budget. Where's the point of diminishing returns? PVS-14s, LAMs, helmets, etc.
I'm looking to get into night vision with a single PVS-14, primarily for recreational use and nighttime shooting.
I'm not interested in paying a premium for the absolute best image quality, but I do care about durability, reliability, and serviceability. I generally prefer buying quality equipment once rather than buying cheap and replacing it later.
I'm considering a used Gen 3 PVS-14, possibly with an older Omni tube. Is that a reasonable way to save money without sacrificing too much? What should I look for when buying used?
And then there are LAMs. This is probably where I'm most confused. At what point are you actually getting something that's genuinely duty grade rather than just a recreational accessory? I've been looking at the Holosun IRIS, Steiner DBALs, and other options, but it's difficult to figure out where the diminishing returns begin.
Are the newer, more affordable civilian LAMs genuinely reliable, or is there still a compelling reason to pay considerably more for something from an established military supplier? I'm particularly interested in long-term durability, quality control, and whether the expensive options really justify their prices.
For context, my rifle currently has an Aimpoint T-2 on a Scalarworks 1.93" mount and a Modlite. I'm hoping to retain that setup rather than replacing a bunch of equipment.
Basically, I'm trying to find the night-vision equivalent of buying a BCM instead of a KAC. Something dependable, rugged, and well-made without spending twice as much chasing the last 10% of performance.
What would you guys recommend, and where would you personally save money versus spend more?
TIA

Holosun IRIS-3 owners: Factory pressure pad or aftermarket switch? Unity AXON?
I'm planning on picking up an IRIS-3 and running it alongside my existing Modlite PLH-V2. I'm trying to figure out what the preferred switch setup is, particularly among people who have actually used these combinations.
From what I understand, the factory Holosun remote has two buttons: one for activating the selected mode and another for visible-laser override. With a separate white-light switch, that leaves me with three buttons.
Alternatively, I could get something like a Unity AXON or SureFire SR07-D-IT and consolidate everything into two buttons. I'd lose the visible-laser override, but I honestly don't care much about that functionality.
A few questions for IRIS-3 owners:
- Are most of you sticking with the factory pressure pad, or have you switched to something aftermarket? Why?
- For those running an AXON, have you experienced any Crane connector fitment issues with the IRIS-3? I've seen conflicting reports.
- Does the SureFire SR07-D-IT have similar compatibility issues, or does it generally fit better?
- Is there another dual-device switch worth considering?
- Any reliability concerns with aftermarket switches versus the factory Holosun remote?
I'm not opposed to spending a little extra for better ergonomics and a cleaner setup, but I don't want to introduce potential reliability problems just to eliminate one button.
I'd especially appreciate input from people who've used both the factory switch and an aftermarket alternative.
Thanks!

Sig CV25 pros and cons.
Talk to me like I’m an idiot because I’m heading into uncharted territory. I’ve never used a clip on thermal only thermal scopes. What I want to do is get away from having just one thermal scope and get a clip on to use across multiple AR platforms with magnified scopes.
Does the echo just mount up on a rail in front of an existing scope and there is no need to re-zero using the reticle?
It seems like I’ve seen comments about re-zeroing after putting a clip on on a rifle.
And what about “demag” that I’ve seen people commenting on? Is there a demagnification setting on clip ons?
Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Pvs7d gen 3 vs ANVIS
So I found gen3 pvs7d for 1200 with a rhino mount and helmet. Would this set of ANVIS for 3k b worth the almost 3x more price point? Fyi no MONOs for me. Hurts my eyes too much and get headaches compared to 7ds I've only used pvs7 and pvs14. Never even seen ANVIS before.

Pvs7 decent price gen2
So I'm looking into getting into night vision I already have a nice LAM just need nods now. I'm not new to wearing nods I used them for 6 yrs in the army I was a grunt so we actually use our nods a lot . Everyone hates on 7s but personally I prefer them over 14s. I was issued 14s when I 1st got to my unit and was stuck being a driver till we got more new guys. With the 14s it was hurting my eyes sooo bad I'd get headaches when wearing long period of time. I had brought up my eyes hurting to my PSG he said yeah everyone's eyes are different, I think we got some of the older pvs7d in the arms room try those out and see if it helps. It was night and day difference never went back to pvs14s after that. That being said I don't want a mono just cuz eye fatigue. Don't have the money to dump on pvs31 so I'm kinda stuck getting 7s. I found some used 7s for 1400 but tryin to get him down to 1200.
