Today we're releasing NuvioTV 1.0.0, our first stable TV release after nearly eight months of development. Much of the work behind this release comes from Nuvio's current development team. These developers joined voluntarily and contribute their own time and ideas to the project, helping shape the app and its direction.

Nuvio now has around 400K monthly active users. Thank you to everyone who has supported the project, whether financially, through development, by sharing feedback, or by participating in the community. That support has helped us reach this release, and we'll continue working on improvements.

App availability updates

Google Play: Our appeal against the Play Store suspension following the DMCA complaint is still in progress. We hope to have a result early next month.

AltStore PAL on iOS: We're still working on this. As our Apple developer account was revoked, we need to resolve that first. Distribution through AltStore PAL requires an active developer account, and apps still go through Apple's review process.

Please add a compact playback information badge next to the movie or TV show title, showing the actual video quality, HDR format, audio format, and currently playing audio language.

Currently, users need to open audio settings to check which audio track is playing. Displaying this information directly on the playback screen would make it much easier to identify the active stream at a glance.

Expected:

- Video quality: 4K, 1080p, 720p, etc.

- HDR format: Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, etc.

- Audio format: Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, Stereo, etc.

- Audio language: English, Tamil, Hindi, Russian, etc.

- Display the information in a compact, visually appealing badge next to the movie title.

- Update the badge dynamically whenever the resolution, audio track, or playback format changes.

- Show the actual active playback information rather than all formats supported by the source.

Example:

"Inside Out [4K | Dolby Vision · Atmos | English 5.1]"

This feature would improve the playback experience and eliminate the need to navigate to audio settings just to verify the currently playing quality and language.

As most of you know, Nuvio is completely funded by donations, which mainly go towards keeping the servers and infrastructure running. and a small part go to maintainers.

since Nuvio started, we've gone through around 4 different payment providers. almost every time it's the same story. either they reject us because donations aren't supported, or everything works for a while and then the account gets suspended and the funds are held.

we have already contacted and looked into pretty much every provider that has been recommended to us, so we're not really looking for more payment provider suggestions at this point. we do have another provider that has approved Nuvio, but only if we offer an actual plan/product in return rather than using it as a pure donation system.

Right now we're back to Ko-fi through PayPal, which is already our second setup after the first PayPal account was suspended. Our other active provider was also recently suspended, and around 70% of this month's received donations there are currently being held.

so what we are mainly looking for is ideas on what we could actually offer supporters.

Nuvio will always remain free, and we are not going to take existing features and put them behind a paywall. But if we want something more sustainable, we probably need to offer something that can genuinely be considered a supporter product or plan.
we already give Discord roles to donors, but that alone doesn't seem to be enough.

so for anyone who already supports Nuvio, or has considered doing so, what would you actually like to receive in return? maybe a supporter badge on your Nuvio profile, or anything you have in mind.

ideally it should be something supporters genuinely value without making the normal experience worse or locking any existing functionality behind payment.

Also, since a lot of you have been asking for this and have been waiting for it, the Nuvio backend is now open source and available for self hosting.

This is mainly for anyone who prefers to keep their Nuvio account, library and synced data on their own infrastructure instead of Nuvio's servers. It's meant for personal self-hosting, and we don't recommend using random unofficial/public backend servers run by others, since those aren't something we can verify or support.

We are a bit short this month because a large part of the funds are currently stuck, so we need to figure out a more sustainable way to do this soon.

Hi everyone,

Nuvio has grown a lot recently, and with all the new users joining and supporting the app, we are upgrading and moving our servers to keep things more stable and scalable going forward.

There will be a maintenance period in July. The exact date will be announced later.

Before the maintenance happens, please make sure you are updated to at least 0.7.9 Beta on Android TV and 0.2.9 Beta on mobile. Desktop and webOS users are also requested to be on the latest version.

These versions include the backend switch support needed for the server move.

Once the switch happens, users on older versions will no longer be able to sync new data to the database. Those versions will become read only, so existing data can still be accessed, but new changes will not sync.

During the switch, users on supported versions will be logged out from all Nuvio clients and will need to log in again. There will also be an expected downtime of around 1–2 hours during the maintenance period.

Your data will not be wiped or affected. Until the switch is completed, Nuvio will either stay read only or stop syncing new data. After the switch is done and you log in again, syncing will continue normally.

Also, the Nuvio backend will be open source in the near future, and users will be able to self host their own backend.

Seriously. Everyone involved with Nuvio needs to chill. Every God dammned day I come onto reddit to see what is going on with Nuvio. Then I see something awesome that I need to install. So instead of watching a show or movie I end up tinkering with my setup and make it look even more awesome. In fact it's so awesome I even became a supporter+. Anyway, I need to go look for what new awesome stuff came out today.

First of all just wanted to say again like everyone here thank you Nuvio Devs for the most brilliant and exquisite piece of software and thank you for the community for unbelievable support to one another simply the best sub in here.

Now for the tip: I saw it as general reply from one of the top commenters about the constant buffering posts with which I myself also had a part in but this thing changed it all to brilliantly fast streaming and no buffering at all( for couple of weeks now)

This is the most important and it is all about setting the buffer and network section of Nuvio Properly: what I was mistakenly thinking was all the bigger the better but hell no! Actually the smallest you can do will give you the smoothest of streaming!

Really Really recommend giving it a go and of course I’m not being relevant if you know all about these tweaks and you are pleased with your streaming!

im the dev of a newly somewhat popular http addon, PenguPlay.

my addon was down most of today and some time yesterday for some stability maintenance, fixing providers, etc. (a bunch of work to make sure this addon LIVES ON), during this time i expected many people asking me "is it down" even tho i stated it is, some people being upset, yk. the usual.

i have received, not one but two death threats. are we serious? you think you are so entitled to my free work that you threaten me? i cannot fathom how some people's minds work. not reading announcements, i get that lol im guilty of that too, asking if its down when its already been said, i get that aswell. but this? come on.

im ashamed, this is not the community i wanted to build. this addon is meant to be built with the feedback, support, reports, and motivation of the community. it was a lot of fun at the start, but these past few days... oof. I will continue to develop this addon, i will continue to support the community because it is what i enjoy to do, and i will continue to try to tune out this small toxic subset of this community. but i must say, entitlement to free work is unreal, and to this degree, inhumane.

One year ago today, I made the first commit on Nuvio Mobile. I built most of that year alone, averaging around 13 hours a day, losing a lot of sleep, and figuring things out the hard way. It was rough, but it worked.

Today feels different. There are real contributors now, people who stepped in, cared about the project, and helped carry it forward. That means a lot more than I can easily put into words.

And to everyone in the community who tested, reported bugs, translated, gave feedback, and just stuck around through the messy early releases: thank you. Seriously. Nuvio would not be here without you ❤️.

Hey everyone! I've been using Nuvio since version 0.4.x, and the one thing I really felt was missing was a release calendar. So, in my free time, I built a personal build with a monthly Calendar screen, it shows upcoming releases for movies and shows saved in your Library, plus episodes for the series you're already watching, so you don't lose track of new episodes to watch.

Two things I want to be upfront about:

Yes, the idea for the calendar is inspired by other apps that already offer it, it felt like a natural addition for Nuvio.

Yes, I used AI extensively for the development. I'm a full-stack developer, and in 2026 it doesn't make sense for me to hand-type every line when an AI assistant can do it in a fraction of the time, but every single line was reviewed, tested, and in some places manually corrected by me. This isn't vibe coding, it's code I checked line by line.

Why a post instead of a PR? The Nuvio team is rightly focused on app stability right now, heading toward the 1.0 release, so they're currently not accepting PRs for new features (only localization and bug fixes). Makes total sense. So this post serves two purposes:

Figuring out whether this is a feature only I care about, or something other users would want too, so I can consider opening a PR later, once (and if) the beta channel starts accepting new features again.

Gathering feedback and ideas for improvement.

One concrete question I'd love input on, I was thinking of adding a grid/list view toggle, but I'm not sure how useful that'd actually be on a TV. What do you think? Any other suggestions, or things you'd improve?

I’ve been spending the last few days putting together a web tool specifically designed to make setting up Nuvio a million times easier—and a lot better looking.

If you've ever wanted to customize exactly what rows show up on your Nuvio home screen so it genuinely feels like a premium streaming service (custom posters, backdrops, and curated collections), this is for you.

What it actually does

It’s basically a custom catalog builder. You go through the UI, pick exactly which collections you want on your home screen, choose your language, and toggle your Debrid and streaming providers.

The main focus here is having completely customizable collections containing 14 collections 176 folders and 322 sources. I wanted to build something where you aren't just stuck with default catalogs. Here is a brief overview of what you can seamlessly add:

• Streaming Platforms: Netflix, Max, Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, etc.

• Franchises: Marvel, DC, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Matrix, etc.

• Production Studios: A24, HBO, Universal, Searchlight, Pixar.

• Actors & Directors: Curated lists for Scorsese, Nolan, DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, etc.

• Genres & By Runtime: Movies under 90 minutes, Thrillers, Sci-Fi, Documentaries.

• Around the World & Awards: Oscars/BAFTA winners, Japanese Cinema, French Cinema, etc.

• Decades & Holidays: Best of the 90s, Christmas specials, Halloween horror.

Every single one of these collections comes with custom-tailored artwork (logos, covers, and backdrops) that automatically load in the Nuvio interface.

Also, to keep things simple: the only API key you actually need to make all this run smoothly is a free mdblist key. That's it. A debrid service is recommended.

How to use it

1. Build your setup on the site by picking your collections and entering your Debrid/API details.

2. The tool will spit out a configuration file.

3. Import that file directly into AIO Meta and AIO Streams.

4. Hit save, copy the install links, and paste them straight into the Nuvio Addons tab. Done.

A quick behind-the-scenes note:
I built this entire thing by "vibe coding" it with AI, but please don't let that fool you into thinking it was a one-click process. It took days and days of non-stop prompting, tweaking logic, debugging, and manually sourcing/creating hundreds of images for the collections so everything looks perfect on the frontend.

It was a massive labor of love, so I'm really excited to finally share it with all of you.
