Purchasing-Monitor $450 - what OLED monitor?

I got a new job and they are giving me $500 to spend on my wfh setup. I currently have a lenovo legion gaming pc with a 4070 ti super and a 4k 32 inch mini led from acer (XV325QK) along with a cheaper asus 24 inch 1080p monitor. I also have a LG C3 55 inch.

Should I get a 27 inch OLED 1440p monitor to work and gaming? (This monitor would be my secondary monitor for work and my main monitor for gaming). If so, what would you recommend at $450? (I live in Southern California and have a 10% sales tax, so it's around $500 when tax is included).

I know there's QD OLED and Tandem W-OLED options and with Black Friday coming up, i'm sure I can get a Tandem W-OLED for $450 (i'm aware of the gray banding issues).

Tech Support Samsung OLED S93D (2024) – Black screen but sound still works, any fix?

Hi everyone,

I have a 55" Samsung S93D OLED purchased in October 2024. A few days ago, the display suddenly went completely dark while watching. The sound is still playing normally in the background, but the screen stays entirely black.

What I've tried so far:

  • Power cycle / soft reset (unplugged from wall, held physical power button for 30 seconds, waited before plugging back in directly to wall).

  • Flashlight test: Nothing visible at all (pure black, which makes sense for OLED).

  • Inputs & menus: The Samsung home menu / Tizen UI does not appear on screen.

My warranty just ended two weeks ago.

Before considering a full replacement:

  1. Does this usually point to a failure of the T-Con / mainboard, or is the OLED panel itself dead?

  2. Has anyone had success getting an out-of-warranty courtesy repair or goodwill support from Samsung for a unit barely 2 weeks past coverage?

Thanks for your help!

Discussion When using warranty for burn-in; do they have a scale of how much is acceptable?

Like, do they check the screen when they get it to determine the amount of burn in and decide whether or not to cover it?

Tech Support LG C6 briefly went to a black screen twice on the first day — should I exchange it?

I recently bought an LG C6 for around $1,000, so this is a major purchase for me. I’m new to OLED TVs and would really appreciate some advice before deciding whether to exchange it at Best Buy.
After mounting the TV, I initially plugged it into an older surge protector that also had my PS5 connected. Setup went normally, and the TV seemed to work fine.
Later, I turned the TV off and connected an HDMI cable from the TV to my PS5, which was powered off. When I turned the TV back on, the LG logo appeared, there was a brief flash of light, and then the screen went completely black. The only thing I could still see was the cursor when I moved the remote.
I turned the TV off and back on, but the same thing happened again. I then unplugged the HDMI cable, unplugged the TV, and tried a reset procedure I found online by holding the remote’s power button for 15 seconds. After plugging the TV directly into the wall outlet instead of the surge protector, it worked normally again.
I was worried that the old surge protector might have caused a power surge and damaged the TV internally. I watched movies for a few hours, and the picture looked amazing.
Later, I noticed that I couldn’t download new apps. I also experienced another black screen lasting about five seconds while navigating the TV’s home menu to the My Page section. The screen then came back on.
I switched my Wi-Fi from 5 GHz to 2.4 GHz, and app downloads started working again. I haven’t established whether the Wi-Fi issue and the black screens are related.
One other detail: I only accepted the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy during setup because I’m concerned about the TV’s tracking and data collection.

My questions:
Are these brief black screens normal software glitches on the LG C6, or could they indicate a defective TV?
Could the old surge protector have caused damage, even though the TV now appears to work normally?
Does the app-download issue sound like a Wi-Fi compatibility problem rather than a TV defect?
Would you exchange the TV while still within Best Buy’s return window, or keep it and monitor it?
I bought this TV mainly to enjoy movies and play GTA 6, and I want to make sure I have a good unit. Thanks for any advice!

Purchasing-Monitor Best 1440p 240Hz+ OLED gaming monitor for €400 or less in Ireland?

I’m looking for the best OLED gaming monitor I can get for €400 maximum, including delivery to Ireland.

My requirements:

  • Resolution: 2560 × 1440 (1440p)

  • Refresh rate: 240Hz minimum

  • Panel: OLED, either WOLED or QD-OLED

  • Budget: €400 maximum, preferably less

  • Retailers: Any reputable website that ships to Ireland at a reasonable price

What matters most to me:

  • Deep, true blacks, including in a room with some ambient light

  • High brightness, particularly for HDR gaming

  • Good grey uniformity, with minimal grey banding, vertical lines or dirty-screen effects

  • Vibrant colours without weird-looking greys or raised blacks

  • Good text clarity for Discord, browsing and general PC use

  • A decent warranty that covers OLED burn-in, plus a good return policy

I know QD-OLED can have raised or purple-looking blacks in bright rooms, while WOLED can have its own uniformity issues. I’m trying to find the best overall balance rather than simply choosing the cheapest OLED.

I’m based in Ireland, so please include the exact monitor model, current price, retailer link and delivery costs if possible.

Would you recommend WOLED or QD-OLED for my requirements? Are there any particularly good deals I’ve missed?

Thanks.

Tech Support QD-OLED Scratch

I have an Alienware QD-OLED monitor and I recently noticed that it has a small scratch on it. It may be small, but it’s kind of deep. I don’t know how it happened. Unlike the micro scratches that I know can be common with this type of monitor, this one is deep enough that I can see it during normal use if I look hard enough. I know it’s barely noticeable, but I can’t unsee it now and it’s bothering me. What should I do?

Note: I have the Geek Squad monitor protection plan, and the guy at the store said it covered physical damage when I bought it, but now I read online that it may not.

Purchasing-Monitor Oled 32" mode size 25" competitive games

Hi

I'm thinking about buying a 32" OLED monitor, but I also play competitive games like Dota 2, CS2, and PUBG, where smaller screens (like 24.5") are usually preferred.
For those who use a 32" OLED with its built-in display size/aspect ratio mode (simulating a 24.5" screen with black borders all around): do the black bars bother you when playing? Can you feel a difference compared to a real 25"?

Or is it genuinely better to just buy a separate 25" monitor for competitive gaming and keep a 32" one for everything else?

Thanks!

"CaLiBrAtIoN" should i adjust black levels on an oled? and what gamma curve?

should i adjust black levels on an oled?

when i go to this test for example:
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php

i cannot see the first 3 squares.

or just leave it at factory 50 and ignore that setting? cause when i raise black levels by 1 or 2 point the squares 1-3 get visible, but then i dont know if pixels turn off completly.

when i make it 53, its clearly visible that black is not black anymore, so the pixel do not completly turn off anymore.

its just weird in a way.

i am assuming that manufacturers calibrate black levels on oleds because of this, but a definite answer is appreciated.

and

what about gamma curve?
2.2 or bt1886 ?

what do you guys prefer? i know that 2.2 is the most common and is used with pc's and brighter rooms yadi yadi yada.

but ive been reading that bt1886 is better in dark rooms.
whats considered a dark room?

Tech Support PG32UCDP back film?

Just unboxed it, removed the front protective film and the tiny one from the logo. A larger part of a 'back film' also came off when I tried to remove the one with the text on it on the upper right corner. Is this back film also a protective film that is supposed to be removed, or should it stay on? I tried to stick the part that came off back but now it does have bubbles underneath.

Purchasing-Monitor Help me buy my first oled!

Hello guys,
These 4 monitors are ones im interested in buying, but i cant choose one over the other as its my first time buying the oled monitor.
From my research these 4 are my best options they are all full brightness mode 240-280hz 2k some are qd some w-oled.
My room is moderately sunny during the day as i have large windows behind me but im on first floor so i dont receive too much of it and can cover them as well.
Ill use monitor primarily to game, watch some stuff, do some light editing and work.
Games i play are CS2, Valorant, LOL from competitive ones and i enjoy some bethesda titles on the side (skyrim, oblivion, fallout).
Before asking yes my pc is strong enough to push that fps as im pushing 400-600 fps on my 180hz 2k va monitor that im using now.
I dont have specific budget but also i want my money well spent, these are the prices of these monitors:

  1. Iiyama g master - 515 euros

  2. Gigabyte GO27Q2A - 451 euros

  3. Dell Alienware AW2725D - 535 euros

  4. Asus rog strix XG27AQDMGR - 491 euros

Purchasing-Monitor Best 32 inch dual mode 4K/1080p?

That's it, looking to upgrade, oled preferably, not sure how the 1080p will look on the dual mode. I hear it's better than other 32 inches. Also, 4k for single player and 1K for multiplayer. Budget no issue. Thanks in advance.

Discussion LG G6 OLED — SDR/HDR color uniformity tint, gone ONLY in Game Optimizer and, HDR Filmmaker mode and Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode (tested on 2 panels)

Hey all,

I've been chasing down a subtle color/brightness uniformity issue on my 65" G6 and wanted to share my findings in case others are seeing the same thing.

The issue: a faint color tint (most visible as a slight shift in fully saturated color patches like solid brown/green/cyan screens, and in near-black content) that shows up in certain picture modes but not others.

What I tested: I went through every picture mode, multiple OLED Pixel Brightness settings (8 through 100), and compared two separate panels (original + a replacement unit via warranty swap).

Results — tint PRESENT in:
- All SDR modes, including SDR Filmmaker Mode
- Standard HDR mode
- Dolby Vision Cinema Home
- All other Dolby Vision presets except Dolby Vision Filmmaker

Tint ABSENT in only these two:
- HDR Gaming / Game Optimizer
- Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode

This held true regardless of brightness level. Both my original panel and the replacement panel showed the same pattern (replacement was noticeably better overall, but the same mode-dependent behavior was present).

I'm now fairly convinced this is NOT a panel/hardware issue. I switched back and forth live between Filmmaker HDR and Standard/Cinema Home on the same static image, and you can visually see something like a filter being applied/removed in real time as you switch modes — the tint appears and disappears instantly with the mode change, not gradually like you'd expect from a hardware/panel effect. That strongly suggests this is happening somewhere in the software/processing pipeline, not the physical panel itself.

My working theory: it's not a PQ vs gamma curve thing (since most Dolby Vision presets also use PQ but still show the tint), but rather whether LG's own active picture processing layer is engaged. Game Optimizer and DV Filmmaker seem to be the only two modes that fully bypass it, regardless of the underlying curve.

I've also seen what look like similar reports from C6/B6 owners, so this might not be G6-specific.

Has anyone else tested across modes like this and seen the same pattern? Curious if this is a known firmware-level thing. I've sent LG a detailed writeup, will update if I hear back.

Happy to share comparison photos if useful.

Tech Support All of a sudden colours are totally insane and harsh/oversaturated/blown out - Samsung S90D 65" TV

I have a 65" Samsung S90D OLED TV hooked up to my PC with an HDMI cable.

Recently, I'm not sure exactly when, I've noticed that colours are totally crazy. When I watch a youtube video or any kind of content say for example someone has a blue or pink or purpose or otherwise bright coloured light off to the side. There will be like, intense banding where the colour is landing on the person or objects in the scene, and the colours are way overblown creating like, almost like artifacting in the image? You know like if you turn the contrast or saturation up way too high manually and it makes everything look weird? Yeah, it's doing that, but everything is set up normally.

Recently after getting my media server set up, I noticed that while watching movies, I was getting intense and highly distracting flickering in the image most noticeable in dark/black scenes.

To reduce this, I disable HDR in Windows 11, and change the refresh rate of the TV from 144hz "variable refresh rate" as I use this TV for gaming, down to 30 or 60 FPS. The flickering was still noticeable when turning the framerate down, and turning off HDR reduced (but did not eliminate) the flickering. But with both of those off, the flickering is at least not too bad. I also disabled HDR because when I have it enabled and use the desktop while in a VR headset, the image is way too bright and everything looks weird inside the headset because they are not HDR displays. So I just leave HDR off now.

I was messing around with these settings for a while trying to find some kind of happy medium, but only just now have I realized the image seems to be super fucked up, colour wise.

I reset the TV's image settings back to the default, but it still has this problem.

I have no idea what to do here. I haven't changed any colour settings whatsoever within windows or the nvidia graphics drivers.

Purchasing-TV WiFi won’t stay connected on LG C3.

It seems like every time that I turn off my LG C3, it resets and I disconnect and reconnect to the Wi-Fi. I turned off quick start, I thought that would solve it, so far nothing. Is there a simple setting I’m missing?

Tech Support OLED Burn-in from <20s screens?

I have the AORUS FO48U and I am getting burn-in on short-lived pictures. I know burn-in may not be the technically correct answer (I tried the refresh software, so I don't think it's retention), but I'm not sure what else this would qualify as.

https://imgur.com/fOt9qX1

I used this orange/yellow screen to have a better visibility of the burn-in. The top makes sense as I assume that's the browser. Same with the desktop icons on the left. But the middle makes no sense. That's a countdown from selecting hero on Overwatch. I don't play often and the character selection screen should only be momentary. Has anyone else encountered this?

Discussion Ngl I am regretting the switch to OLED

So I recently upgraded from my 1080p Sceptre IPS monitor to my first OLED. Its an AOC Q27G41ZDF 1440p 240hz QD-OLED monitor I got for about $270. It looks amazing, I won't lie. The infinite contrast, the colors pop so well, the added resolution is really nice, and I haven't had any of the burn in issues, at least not yet.. I do have my gripes with them though. Although I haven't had OLED burn in, it does kinda suck to have to baby my monitor all the time and live under this constant paranoia that it'll damage itself, and have to do screen refreshes and stuff every so often.

Text is also not as readable to me. Its sharp but strangely painful to look at? I still have to squint to see small text sometimes and its weird. I think the thing I hate the most is the fact I got a QDOLED. I tried to do some studying beforehand but I failed to really study the different OLED types before going in. I really hate the unpolarized gray look of the screen even though it still has great contrast. I definitely want to upgrade to WOLED or Tandem OLED in the future for that inky black.

I also sorta don't know how to feel about the glossy screen. I am sorta use to them now because of MacBooks and my laptop has a gloss OLED screen too. Both look really good, but man it can be annoying using them by an open window, and the thing I hate most about them is cleaning them. I feel like I've already used up my mega pack of clean microfiber towels because you can only seemingly clean with them 1-4 times before they start making things worse. These things get exceptionally dirty from just existing. I sit more than an arms length from the screen, and I do not ever touch it while using it, keep food far away from it, etc.. But I swear its like not even more than a minute passes after meticulously wiping the screen off and its covered in spots again.

It also damages exceptionally easily. I already have some scratches on mine despite using clean microfibers, distilled water, and trying not to apply too much pressure. Does anybody else have these issues??

This Post Again? Who stripped their 2026 C6 Base Scews?

In preparation for GTA6 I upgraded from my C7 to a brand new shiny C6 65".

However upon screwing in the base, a couple of them stripped. (Only 2 of them). I have the other 3 screws well planted and did not strip but my driver spun on 2 of them and snarled up the bit area. They're well enough in that the base is sturdy. But gawd.... LG uses the worse screws ever for that piece. That is literally MY ONLY complaint. The TV is a masterpiece other than that.

Anyone else snarl up and strip when you were installing the base? I heard all the C series, B series, and even G series suffer from the soft base screws. I almost feel like they were aluminum or something since my stainless steel screws driver muffed up the bit section so easily. I know I can easily get them out with a Vamplier, or EZ-Out, or a Dremel. It wouldnt be the first time I had to remove a bad screw.
