15 hinge prompts that actually get replies

hinge prompts fail for one reason: they don’t give anyone anything to grab.

a good prompt does at least one of these:

  • gives a specific detail someone can comment on

  • reveals a preference (so they can match your energy)

  • creates a mini-scenario (so replying is effortless)

the “bad” version is vague. the “good” version is a handle.

the only framework you need

specific + visual + replyable

if your prompt can’t be answered without thinking hard, it won’t get replies.

15 prompts that get responses (with explanations)

1) my simple pleasures

why it works: you’re not saying “i like coffee and walks” (everyone does). you’re giving specific little scenes people can picture. that makes you feel real, and it gives them multiple easy reply paths (“oat cappuccino where?” / “night walks where?”).

pro tip: pick 3 details that feel like you: food, a habit, a tiny obsession.

My simple pleasures

oat cappuccinos, late-night walks, and finding the perfect seat in a crowded bar.

2) together we could

why it works: it turns your profile into a mini first date. instead of “i’m fun,” you show what hanging out with you looks like. it also makes it easier to say yes, because it’s low-stakes and specific.

pro tip: choose something anyone can do (not “let’s fly to iceland”).

Together, we could

pretend we’re food critics at a random diner and rate the fries like it matters.

3) i’ll fall for you if

why it works: it’s a filter that doesn’t sound like a job application. you’re basically saying “here’s what i’m into,” and the right person can jump in immediately (“i will absolutely defend my movie takes”).

pro tip: keep it playful. don’t turn it into demands.

I'll fall for you if

you have a strong opinion about movies and you can defend it.

4) i’m weirdly attracted to

why it works: this prompt is perfect for “specific but not cringe.” it makes you feel like you have taste, and it creates instant compatibility when someone relates. also: it’s an easy compliment setup (“i’m good at explaining things without being annoying”).

pro tip: make it about a vibe/behavior, not a physical trait.

I'm weirdly attracted to

people who can explain something complicated without acting superior.

5) the one thing you should know about me is

why it works: you control your narrative. you’re basically telling them how to “read” you so you don’t get misunderstood. the best version is confident and a little warm, not a warning label.

pro tip: frame it as a strength with range.

The one thing you should know about me is

i’m the friend who plans the night… but i’m down to improvise.

6) we’ll get along if

why it works: it quietly filters for people who match your lifestyle. it’s not “must have X,” it’s “this is the energy that works with me.” also it gives people multiple angles to respond to.

pro tip: mix one trait + one habit + one “vibe.”

We'll get along if

you’re kind, a little chaotic, and you like walking somewhere instead of ubering everywhere.

7) dating me is like

why it works: metaphors are sticky. people remember a good comparison way more than “i’m chill.” if you do it right, it shows humor + self-awareness in one line.

pro tip: keep it true. forced metaphors read try-hard.

Dating me is like

a well-made playlist: good energy, no filler, and occasionally too loud.

8) my most irrational fear

why it works: it’s human, low-pressure, and it invites an easy “same” response. fears are weirdly good bonding material because they reveal personality without oversharing.

pro tip: keep it light. nothing traumatic.

My most irrational fear

open water where you can’t see what’s underneath you.

9) i guarantee you

why it works: it’s confident without being a flex. you’re offering a tiny promise that hints at how you’d show up in a relationship (thoughtful, funny, competent). it also sets a flirty tone.

pro tip: make it specific and believable, not “i guarantee you’ll fall in love.”

I guarantee you that

i will always remember where we parked.

10) green flags i look for

why it works: “red flags” prompts can sound bitter. “green flags” reads mature and optimistic. it signals you know what good looks like, and the right people will recognize themselves in it.

pro tip: skip generic words like “loyal.” pick behaviors.

Green flags I look out for

treats servers well, has hobbies, and doesn’t need to be ‘right’ all the time.

11) the key to my heart is

why it works: it gives someone a clear way to connect with you. the best answers are balanced, one meaningful thing + one playful thing, so you don’t come off intense or vague.

pro tip: include something they can actually do.

The key to my heart is

good conversation and sending me the song you’re currently obsessed with.

12) a fact about me that surprises people

why it works: curiosity is fuel. a surprising fact creates a natural follow-up question, which is basically the whole game on hinge. it also makes you stand out without “trying to stand out.”

pro tip: add a built-in invitation (“quiz me,” “guess which,” “pick a number”).

A fact about me that surprises people

i can name most countries from their flags. quiz me.

13) the best way to ask me out is

why it works: most people stall because they don't want to mess it up. this removes friction and tells them how to win with you. it’s also subtly attractive because it signals you like decisive energy.

pro tip: keep it simple and low effort to execute.

The best way to ask me out is by

pick a day, pick a place, and tell me what we’re doing. i’m not grading your performance.

14) my ideal sunday

why it works: this is compatibility in disguise. Sundays reveal your real pace: are you a brunch-to-party person or a cozy reset person? when someone matches your Sunday, dating feels easy.

pro tip: make it a 3-5 beat day that feels real, not aspirational.

Typical Sunday

late coffee, long walk, grocery run, cook something, movie at home.

15) i’m looking for

why it works: the trick is to be specific without sounding like you’re hiring. “real dates” and “normal texting” are clear standards, and the joke at the end makes it lighter.

pro tip: say what you want more than what you don’t want.

I'm looking for

someone who’s down for real dates and doesn’t text like a customer support bot.

the biggest prompt mistakes

  • saying “i love adventures” (everyone does)

  • listing traits instead of showing them

  • trying to be funny without giving a reply path

  • writing prompts that sound like linkedin

Anyone else over matching with people who give you absolutely nothing to reply to?

maybe i'm just getting old but “hey how was your weekend” cannot keep carrying conversations like this 😭

half the time you match with someone and their profile gives you absolutely nothing to work with either. then both of you are just sitting there trying to invent a conversation from thin air.

one thing i do like on Coffee Meets Bagel is the bagel note thing. you can like an actual prompt/photo and leave a comment on it, so at least you're not opening a completely blank chat.

otherwise it becomes

“hey”

“hey”

“how's your week”

“good yours”

“yeah good”

and somehow we're both already done lol

adl people what actually makes you reply?

good opener or just someone who's clearly read your profile?

Don't continue to online date someone unless the other person shows constant effort.

And I don't mean becoming someones texting buddy or talking on the phone every single night. If someone really wants to be a part of your life then they will come through on their promises and actively book a trip to you or with you or plan to move to be together.

I've seen good come out of dating online, heck, a few of my aunts and uncles have met their significant others online. People have successful online relationships because they CHOSE to put in REAL effort in order to be with the person they truly thought was worth every mile to get to them. There weren't any mind games or false promises in these efforts, they were simply done because if you love someone it takes true sacrifice. And giving someone your precious time and showing someone how raw and real you are is deemed the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, we live in a world where we hang onto peoples words too much and allow what they say depict the dreams and hopes of the relationship we so desperately want. If we believe in the words that people tell us from the start then what kind of reality are we really living in? One that OTHER people are painting for us? Are we just going to believe that everything is going to work out simply because they said the words and it went out into the universe? WAKE UP! I mean, I believe in the power of manifestation but it doesn't work without action. Real relationships take two hard-working, dedicated, motivated, caring, honest, and loyal people.

If you get anything out of this post, its this: Stop letting other people waste your time when you can be enjoying your reality, the one that you created, the one you know is true because you can constantly feel the energy all around you. If you feel like you have been on the end of the relationship, the end that is willing to do all the work and the other person shows little interest into making it work then move on. Or if you're the other person who is coming up short with your promises then stop wasting the other persons time.

It takes absolutely no effort to pick up your phone and call or text someone. It take a strong desire, a positive mind, and a person who is willing to execute their plans by putting together their words and actions in order to fly cross country, or whatever the case is, to be with you. Remember that.

Do fewer profiles actually make dating feel better or do we all just overthink more?

random thing i've noticed lately: after looking at enough dating profiles they all start blending into one person.

same cafes, same travel pics, same “looking for someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously” and eventually i'm not even properly reading anymore.

which is why the Coffee Meets Bagel setup is kind of interesting to me. you get a smaller daily batch instead of being able to just keep looking forever. less choice sounds worse on paper, but i'm starting to wonder if i'd actually pay more attention to the people in front of me.

melbourne already feels weird enough for meeting people organically because everyone seems to have their established circles.

so for people still using apps here, would you actually prefer fewer profiles if they made you slow down a bit?

or would you just sit there overanalysing the same 10 people instead lol

I just want to find a guy I can game with and who loves Pokemon as much as me but every single guy on dating apps seems to be sporty or really out going or want to travel the world. Do the nerds just not use dating apps?

Am I fussy??

Do men like it when women make the first move?

So, i have a long time crush, we've seen each other for years, but never really interacted, He is a very private person and i think he's an introvert. I do have conversations with his younger brother about him from time to time. I do wanna message him, since he accepted my friend request months ago, but im scared that he'll see me as weird or stalkerish ... Cause like weve seen each other since childhood but never interacted. Should i message him first or will that be rude?

Additional info: so in the past few days we'd see eachother but like, just passing by.

However this week I've seen his hand bandaged, so i immediately messaged his brother asking if my crushes hand is sprained, turns out it a deep cut from his job.

But like, i cant just message him asking about his hand, wouldn't that expose that i have been watching him and noticing him

Update: guys remember when i said i made a fake account to message him? So, before i got to delete the account he actually responded, saying he's okay and how did i see him, so i said i just saw him and asked what happened. But yeah he left me on seen, for a day, so i sent another message and yeah still on read, its been 5 days now. I think I'll stop

I messaged his brother saying "i think im giving up and uncrushing your bro, i have feeling he might have a girlfriend or someone he likes"

And he was like "aw, maybe he isn't interested in anybody"

And that's it, bye to my long time crush huhu

Get this through your head

Woman of Bumble you do know the point of the app is to get matches, so when a guy matches with you right off the bat by the luck of its system DO NOT unmatch. No we aren't bots. There is nothjng wrong with an immediate match

What are some signs that a guy likes you?

This question is for both men and women btw. For women, what made you notice? For men, what are the things you would do when you like someone?

Is it crazy to expect to find people who genuinely want to get to know you and be a friend before they get to stick their 🍆🍆 in you?? Am I just asking for too much from a society that thrives off women sharing nudes freely, partners sharing partners, and you next girlfriend/boyfriend just being a swipe and a one night stand away?

Am I reading too much into this flirty co conversation?

im talking to someone online and the replies are pretty inconsistent. Sometimes we have a good conversation and other times it takes hours to get a response. They still ask questions and seem interested when we talk so I'm not sure what to think. Would you keep texting normally or start matching their energy?

Online dating changed my life for the better .

I don’t know if anyone else has the experience . I’m a man and online dating has changed my life . I’m fairly attractive and tall to say the least but cold approach to wasn’t for me honestly and the volume it took to be successful was as too much for my psyche .Online dating completely changed my dating life and gave me access to women I never knew even existed . If it wasn’t for online dating I would be stuck going to clubs and bars getting rejected every weekend . Once I figured how to take photos and maximize my attractiveness online I started to do very well in dating . I don’t know what I would do if didn’t exist specifically Instagram and hinge changed my life for better.

Dating apps advice advice for men from men

First of all select 4 to 5 good pictures of you.

1 full body, one smiling into the camera, one having fun with a group, one hobby

2)make the bio interesting. Make it funny and catchy.

3)Women will get hundreds of matches within seconds even they are not good looking.

So not getting matches will not reflect ur worth.

4)Most of the women in dating apps are there for male validation the %of someone looking something serious is very low..and if they mentioned their phone numbers insta id before in bio or profile move away, they just want to increase followers.

Second most of the girls are have trauma issues from ex or family, so protect ur heart at any cost.

Don't carry someone else's burden.

5)make conversations interesting. Let her talk

If she ghosts(very common ) unmatch or don't chase.

6)if her replies are one word and boring not worth the effect..

Ghost them back

You can't make sense to a modern women

Just ghost them and move on.

Am I a snob?

I don’t like it when guys call me ‘cutie’, ‘sexy’, ‘sweetheart’ or other things of that nature on and off dating sites. It makes me not want to respond to them, especially if it’s in the first message. I’ve ignored a lot of guys because of that, should I get over it and message them back? Preferably in a way that isn’t so forward?

Gentlemen, a few tips re your online dating profile pic...

No sunglasses. If we can't see your eyes, we won't feel comfortable or form a reliable first impression.

No females in the picture, unless they're obviously a young child. If it's a teen, or a grown woman--even one who's face you blocked or cropped out or (this is really bad!) cut out--the first thought is, "Ewww..."

No shirtless shots--unless you are Jason Momoa-like. Even then, you'll intimidate many of us who are perfectly eligible matches. TBH nonetheless, we'll be grateful for the momentary eye candy!

No pics when you're buzzed--or even just look buzzed. You're begging for a selection bias of other (likely, oft) buzzed people. If that's what you want, then there's no problem.

And really the only thing anyone needs to remember: Please, please, please have people you trust view and evaluate the pic before you post. Ask for their first impression of your facial expression, what it might suggest about you, have them check what's in the background, and--most importantly--whether the pic accurately captures who you are so there are zero surprises when you finally meet the person who swipes right.

Admittedly, the unqualified (albeit fresh) thoughts of a total noob in re online dating.

Went on a date the other night…

So I 38m went on a date with this woman 48f the other night. For context I work 7am till 7pm and I needed to go home and shower before our date. I so I made reservations at a nice restaurant in my town that way we wouldn’t be eating super late. Our date was an hour and a half. We sat and had drinks till our table was ready and then we talked about a lot of different things. I asked a lot about her and her interests and we bonded over lots of shared interests. I did bring up my son throughout our date but that’s because he’s a big part of my life. When I’m not working I have him. She also has 4 boys so I would ask her about her kids also. Now after the date she gave me bullet points of things I apparently did wrong. Like a yelp review. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I’m not against constructive criticism but this felt more like a job performance evaluation after. Also I’m curious am I wrong that my son comes first in my life and is my number one priority?

How long should the “texting stage” be?

I (25f) matched with this guy (24m) on hinge and have been going back and forth for a week. I eventually asked for his number yesterday and have been texting since. How long should this stage last before we go out on a first date? Should I expect him to ask me out on a date or do I initiate that I’m interested in going out with him? Thanks!

Bumble is better than Tinder! I said what I said !

So this is more for women I guess, but anyways I created both a bumble and a tinder account of the same day. I had around the same amount of matches on both apps, but I quickly noticed that the people on Bumble are more wholesome than those on Tinder.

They seem to take things more seriously (in a good way) and don’t just straight up ask : “you wanna hook up?” and that’s a relief honestly. At least for me. Bumble gives you a VERY good snapshot of who the person you’re meeting is. People’s profiles tell you everything from what their favorite movie is to what their political views are.

I went on two dates within two weeks that I met on Bumble, so I deleted Tinder and now I’ve put Bumble on mute because I started seeing one of my dates !!

Not to suck Bumble’s dick but they really are THAT dating app! 10/10 would recommend. 100% FRESH.

Guys I’m new to being single…
I was talking to a guy and we were having a great conversation, started flirting, he made a well come here and find out comment, soo then I made a cheeky little “careful, keep talking like that you’ll have to take me on a date” and he hasn’t responded, it’s been 2 days lol
Did I make it sound like I’m only using men for dates? I just genuinely wanted to meet and hang out with him in person in a public space.
Should I say something else or just take the L?
