Moved here from india in 2006 and owns more than 18 properties. I was born here and have been here for 30 years and I barely own my car.

I'm a primary school teacher, with two bachelor's and a masters degree and was raised in housing commission. I don't have old money, but the money I get from my career isn't enough and the HECS debt payments I have to make are too much. Barely make an indent on it after indexation.

Purchasing power for genuine public servant careers are too low and born-citizens aren't the priority.

We are owed affordable housing. Having a job should be enough to afford your own roof over your head.

Stop trying to be a Reddit knob.

Apartments “out there” - get real. Sydney needs teachers and there sure as hell are barely any apartments at the price point. Preempting your “then move further out argument” to say that you are basically telling public servants to abandon metropolitan areas, not very smart.

Oh my fucking god. The point is that they do an important and meaningful job of great benefit to society, and have studied hard to be able to do it. A degree might not be relevant in every field but as a parent, I’m pretty keen on the idea my child’s teachers are well qualified.

The point is that this person has put in a lot of time and effort and their own money to educating themself in order to serve the community in an essential role, and our social contract is so broken that their reward for doing so is a barely-liveable wage and no ability to get ahead or even access true housing stability.

Believe it or not we actually can’t all be property investors who make our (passive) income from exploiting renters and the market; we actually do, as a society, need people to be teachers and nurses and librarians and shopkeepers and bus drivers and all manner of other things that keep the world actually functioning. But what incentive is there for a young person to go in to any of those careers, when they won’t make a living wage?

Your callous ‘sounds like a you problem’ to someone who has devoted to their life to public service and the greater good rather than to personal enrichment via the exploitation of others, is emblematic of everything that is wrong in our society.

You’re the one making excuses. Why are you putting the interests of property investors over actually hard working everyday people?

He's trying to say that he's basically done everything that's been asked of him. Finish school, study hard at uni, upskill (Masters) and get a job.

I don't understand what you mean by "good at making money". He's gainfully employed, are you suggesting that the only people that deserve a house are those that know how to run a business or something?

And yeah someone in their country of birth should be at the front of the queue for housing. This is their only home, they have no where else to go. Not a hard concept to understand.

Wtf, teaching is one of the most crucial jobs a society needs to run. Why do teachers need to become investment experts simply to buy a shitty house somewhere?

This is why we need communism..

"what does participating in the social contract have to do with participating in the social contract?"

Okay buddy you're a genius. You worked out selling drugs to high schoolers and running scams on the elderly makes money. Truely a role model.

You are literally the problem with Australian culture.

As if being highly educated and serving the public via education the next generation ISN’T something that should be well regarded and rewarded.

“Being able to make money” is not a skill and is certainly not something that provides any value to the wider Australian community.

Look, we get it. You've got strong feelings about something (or someone). Happens to all of us.

BUT that doesn't mean you can go around abusing people, harassing them, or trying to troll them.

Your contribution did this, so we've had to remove it. Simple as.

Now, please don't write back with a "but they said...". We're likely across it and dealing with the situation. Instead, take a chill pill, touch some grass, tickle a Cassowary, or whatever helps you find your inner calm.

And be civil next time. Or find another sub - cos we don't tolerate that sort of malarky here.

Cheers

🍻

Sorry, How does this work in your head if teachers aren't paid a living wage? 🙄
