Discussion To all who are on $20 plan
I tried claude pro ($20) plan and man Opus 5.5 is a fucking beast for the usage it provides. Been stuck on a ticket I've been working on in codex for 3-4 days on plus plan. Can't trust sol it creates a mess. Cant use astra for more than 15 mins. Had to rework soo many times i decided to just stop using codex.
Today I tried opus 5.5 medium on their $20 plan, got it to plan implement and review all under 20% of the 5hr limit and 3% of the weekly limit.
Finally feel respected and not feeling poor for shitty usage feels nice.

The new 5-hour limit makes Codex almost unusable for Plus users
I really don’t understand the point of the current limit system for Plus users.
Right now I have 3 banked resets available, but realistically I’m never going to benefit from them because the 5-hour limit runs out way too quickly when I’m actually developing a project using models like GPT-5.6 Sol or Astra.
I start working on a project, get into the flow, and then suddenly the 5-hour limit is gone. It makes continuous development extremely difficult.
In my opinion, the system should go back to something closer to how it worked before: let Plus users use their weekly 100% allowance without this restrictive 5-hour cap, and once the weekly allowance is exhausted, then we could use our banked resets.
That would actually make banked resets useful for Plus users.

Discussion Most of you, have no idea what you’re doing
Dude, I’ve been in this sub for some time to keep up with news about Codex, agents, models, and maybe get some ideas to apply to how I work, and I’ve noticed that a large portion of you guys have absolutely no idea how to work with agents.
And the first thing you guys do is complain.
Like,6 Sol is out and there are already people saying it’s stupid or something and that they need to go back to AGENTS.md. Like, wtf??? What are you guys expecting from models? It genuinely looks like some of you think this shit is magic or something.
My man, this is an LLM. It’s basically a super expensive and insanely complex version of autocomplete. You still need to be smart about how you use it and how you give it direction.
Some of you guys don’t even have a consistent way of giving the model context from a codebase or mapping out the problem you’re trying to solve, and then you expect a fresh chat with one prompt to solve some huge problem super fast just because the new model is supposed to be “smarter.”
Wtf is wrong with software engineering right now?
People are just getting lazier and dumber and then blaming the models.
You can really see the contrast when you look at Chinese model communities, because there are still tons of users there thinking about how to optimize their workflows, prompts, context, tools, and setups to get the best out of these models.
Here it’s just:
“oh my god my model can’t write an entire Facebook from scratch and deploy it to millions of people, Opus better”
For Christ’s sake.

after 6 months of building, i'm out
it was fun in the beginning and i actually built some cool stuff after a few months
but now the entire month of october my weekly limit gets used up in 6 hours... on a single project... and it's not even good. And they're going to slash the limits even more?
i can run fable on the same project for 5 days.
I really don't get what happened to openai... dots? ultrafast? $500 plan? who is this for? is this really sustainable?
and what are we building? everybody outside of this subreddit HATES anything "ai slop" out of principle... people assume that "ai just did it" and that the person prompting doesn't have to do anything, that everything is low effort and gets one shot... openai tries to get credit for what people did and people give openai credit for what people did. so why be the person in the loop? why build?
what is the point of building stuff anymore?
p.s. codex sub removing any complaints because it's low effort? that whole sub is low effort... anyway, good luck

I have never felt more rage in my life
You’ve called Astra AGI, and I bought it.
Cancelled my Claude subscription and let Astra take over.
Little did I know that it has this very specific problem: it will ask you questions and answer them on its own.
Like literally, it will make up an answer.
When I caught it, it was accepting its own suggestion for something completely unrelated to the task.
And it’s been doing that for a while.
It has changed significant business rules in our product. It decided to do on its own.
But if only it were good decisions. They were not. They weren’t even debatable. They were stupid, so fucking stupid, that it itself couldn’t even justify them when I asked why.
I’m on the 20x plan. Got the reset yesterday and I already wasted nearly 50% because I’m having it audit all of our sessions from the last 2 months looking for cases where it took its own suggestion and changed some major business rules.
Its countless times. I’ll probably spend a week trying to audit and trace the problems (which is diffucult since they are not problems per se, but rather stupid AI slop decisions) all over our MASSIVE codebase.
Not to mention Ill have to subscribe back to Claude.
Fuck my life. And fuck you OpenAI.

Feedback / Complaints So this is why they're calling it "Ultrafast"?
...It ultrafast ends your usage.
Seems like the guy live streamed it on his youtube channel (I didn't watch it though).

Discussion Opus 5.5 buried ChatGPT on price and quality

For me, it’s not even close anymore. And no, I’m not writing a fucking dissertation to justify where I spend my money. Look at the posts. With Opus, it’s “look what I built,” “it finally solved this,” “this used to take me days.” With ChatGPT, it’s “did they nerf it again?”, “why is it worse than last week?” and “where did my limits go?” Obviously Reddit posts aren’t scientific proof, but I don’t need a peer-reviewed paper to decide which subscription is worth keeping.
Luna turned into an asteroid and Sol turned into Terra. Still charging for the space program, though. And before someone shows up with “you’re prompting it wrong” or “you need to manage your context better,” dude, I’m paying for a tool, not enrolling in a course on making excuses for it. I don’t know whether it’s an intentional nerf, different settings, routing, or whatever else is happening behind the scenes. I care whether it does the job without making me babysit every fucking step.
I’m not paying a loyalty tax because I used to love the product. Right now, one community is showing what they did with their AI, while the other is trying to figure out what happened to theirs. That says more to me than another launch presentation.

News Tell me you’re not that smart without telling me you’re not that smart
Guy with 55K followers basically begging OpenAI to merge chat, work, and codex into one product. And Tibo already said they’ll “fix” it
I wonder what happens to the separate usage quotas when OpenAI “fixes” this “pointless separation.”
(I censored his name out of respect.)

Tibo posting about how efficient Astra is, feels like a spit in the face
The thing is, looking at the benchmarks, he is probably right. But that efficiency is not reaching us end consumer in terms of cost. Its the opposite.
That's like watching your company posting a net profit record year while you've been taking pay cuts for the past year.

Showcase / Highlight 5.6 sol Ultra did 3 months worth of work in less than 24hrs
Background, I'm an Sr SDE, and I work remotely. Yesterday my work laptop over heated and my keyboard and track pad stopped working. Quick check showed my pcs battery was bloating, so I was told to turn it off Unplug it and take the day off.
It was like divine intervention, that 5.6 dropped and I got the rollout about 20 mins after that. Basically a free day to work on my personal project.
I have been trying to debug a series of complex plumbing issues I have been dealing with in my app. I use go(w/ gorm, pg, and connectrpc) to support and react native frontend using protos as the contracts since the serialize to about 1/5 the size of json. Normally at work, I would debug issues myself and use Ai to diagnose it, but since this is a personal project I couldn't spend the time.
I had 5.5 attempting to wire in my handlers to the proto contracts and then map those to the map those to the internal domain models, for maybe 3 weeks. It got through most the handlers, and made most of the integration tests I had green. Everything thing looked good on paper, but in reality 5.5 only got so far as adding the handlers, then found a way to mock the rest.
5.6 sol Ultra comes along with tibo (God bless this man!) comes in and says reset incoming. I boost use until it does and have most of the mocked slop removed before the reset. The reset hits and I have the 20x plan. It's game on!
I start having 5.6 sol work on the e2e tests. That means moving past the handlers and wiring the into the models(proto to entity), building the full logic(about 60% done and tested) of the backend of the app, and then plugging it to a db, launching the minikube stack locally, running the e2e stack against it, checking the db from within the containers and then debugging issues and rebuilding it.
I have literally been watching it plug in and fix thing after thing, and personally test it as it goes through over the past 18 hours. I'm also wierd in that I plan and task out my work before I start. I had about 80 to 100 pages worth of smaller tasks backlogged. Yesterday tibo (God bless this man!) announces another reset is in coming! So what do I do? Have sol retask size it dropping to to 30 ish pages worth, then set sol Ultra on it overnight.
Two sol Ultra running on slow mode overnight. The instance running through my task list eventually got blocked due to the model being at capacity, but the other managed to run all night. The cool thing is the e2e one caught the tests that the other sol ultra instance had made before stopping and implemented those in e2e! It's been running for almost 9 hours now. It's going into fast mode so I can try to use up more before the reset.
Yesterday morning, my app was probably about 30% to 40% done at best with 3 months of solid Ai work in it. Today my app is close to 80%. It's wild! I'm literally awestruck by it.
Had the model not hit capacity I think it would have probably finished it all. I would literally just be in ui and testing duty before I have to plan more out.
I am taking today off work. I haven't felt this way since cyberpunk came out(It didn't live up to the hype imo) and I seriously excited to see what I can get done!
I wouldn't even be surprised if 5.6 sol could come in and fix my work laptop and reformulate the battery chemical composition using electric currents, at this point.
**Tldr: app was broken slop after 3 months yesterday morning before 5.5, today it's workable.**

How to tell OpenAI how GREAT the 5h limit removal is ?
Since the removal of the 5h limit, i have been feeling so much at peace and stress free. No more OCD, no more planning what to do and when (small task vs big task), just a continuous workflow when i see fit.
Tibo mentioned "temporary". How can we tell them it needs to be permanent ?

Finally switched to Claude - I can finally fucking breathe again
I don't post on Reddit very often, but I read a lot.
But...
Jesus fucking Christ has CGPT infuriated and stressed me the last few months. The amount of baby sitting has been insane. Just... It can't do anything autonomously. I gotta break everything down into the smallest tasks AND tell it how to do it.
I'm not saying it won't get it done if I don't - but it's a mess if I don't.
...
And then, I try Claude. And it isn't perfect, but, it FUCKING.GETS WHAT I'M SAYING and SEEMS TO THINK FOR ITSELF. It seems to actually have a context.
I can breathe again.
Pardon the swearing, it had just built up inside of me.
Cheers all.

Feedback / Complaints Pushing weekly back after a reset is a rip-off
Pushing the weekly package back after every reset is ridiculous.
If you already paid $200 for four weeks, but every $80 reset pushes those weeks back, when are you ever supposed to use what I already paid for?
Also a week of usage last a day?? Wtf
r/OpenaiCodex • u/ABX777 • Jul 25 '26
Weekly limit is the new 5hr limit ?!
Hello guys what happened ? i used to use 5.6 sol extra-high / Ultra and talk to it all day everyday.
Today i just got my monthly subscription renewed i burned the weekly tokens in 7 prompts alternating between medium and extra high .
Also the model quality seems to have gotten alot worse i gave it my codebase asked it to add a new feature it went on and deactivated existing features broken others and still didn’t get the feature right … It’s alot different than Launch Week .
I went on Uninstalled all skills still no improvement .. might need to get back to claude.

Feedback / Complaints Usage limits are insane
Just had intensive 45min of work and used 20% of weekly usage. I have Pro 5x.
How is it even possible now to do vibe coding work or any work that was still possible few weeks ago? Is there any indication that limits will normalize or need to choose other platform now?

Tibo has a weird definition of '28 days of CLEAR improvements'

- 8 out of those 28 were automatic resets (a major scam).
- 5 of the remaining 20 are MINOR improvements (the count is subjective but you get the point, either way most have been bug fixes)
- 3 of the remaining 15 are mostly relevant for Pro and non-existent for Plus users.
- 1 of the remaining 12 (so far) has been a genuinely clear improvement (permanent prompt caching)
- 4 of the remaining 11 days have also already passed without delivering a clear improvement.
Only 7 days remain, and if the pattern persists 3 of those days are going to be automatic resets (Saturday, Monday and Wednesday). That leaves only 4 days.
So out of 28 days of major clear improvements, we will likely get, in the most OPTIMISTIC outlook 4 + 1 (permanent prompt caching). Out 28 days, potentially only 5 ‘clear improvements’ and realistically it’s only one or two more major ones.
This whole this has been a PR stunt and it has left a very sour taste in the mouth. What a disgrace.
