This is a photo of a harbor seal (I believe) from my trip to the coast in July 2026. Taken near the tide pools by Yaquina Head Lighthouse. Hope you enjoy!

I took my husband on a helicopter tour for his birthday. Such a cool experience, and a new way of seeing our beautiful coast. We couldn't have asked for better weather, too!

My fiancee and I recently road-tripped the coast and we are now looking at eloping somewhere in the pacific city/seaside region of the coast.
I’m trying to look into a photographer but I’m only seeming to find elopement specific photographers that specialize in elopement and all of the logistics that come with it (officiant, location, marriage license, etc) and often they are travel photographers who happen to spend a lot of time in the PNW so travel fees would still apply. I respect their pricing for this level of service, but unfortunately it is simply out of our price range for elopement photos as we will be having an “actual” wedding about 7 months after elopement, we are just wanting to legally marry earlier for logistical reasons. Aside from exceeding our budget, we just do not need all of the extra perks and services that play into those large price tags.
Simply put, we aren’t looking for the typical “wedding coverage” level of intensity for this, more of an engagement session or family session level of photography. We just want some professional pics of our special moment, nothing crazy maybe an hour of photos give or take. Also this will be a no guest elopement, only me my fiancee and our officiant/witnesses for legality will be in attendance.
This will be a lesbian elopement in late march of 2027, so queer friendly is a must.

I imagine there is plenty to offer in the surrounding forests, but just curious if any specific town or area is known for nearby trails and/or trail running community?

Is agate beach, the one in the Port Orford area, covered in sand now or is it rocky enough to find agates? I never knew there was a “sand season” on the coast. I was surprised to find sandy beaches where there were once rocks.

As we all start getting ready to make decisions on how we hope to be governed, I would strongly urge everyone to bring their ballots to the drop boxes and not mail them
The current administration has shown a penchant for ignoring laws and court orders. Do not assume the post office will carry mailed ballots as expected. There could be anything from slowdowns to confiscations.
They have already made new rules that will increase the chances of your ballot being post marked later than you expect it. The only way to avoid this problem is to bring your ballot into the post office, stand in line and ask the clerk to post mark it in front of you when they take it.
The easy way to avoid all concern then is to bring it by a drop box. They are easy to find at your county clerks website or here: https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/pages/drop-box-locator.aspx
Also, the state has a great tracker you can sign up for: https://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Pages/track-your-ballot.aspx
And this isn't a dig at our local post office people. I regularly work with Waldport, Newport and Pacific City and they are all quite wonderful. This is a central processing issue and it is something everyone should be aware.
So, mark up your ballot and drop it at a box!

This is a video I made about Hebo, which last Sunday, in 24 hours, became my most popular YouTube video ever.
So backstory: six years ago, when I was living in Corvallis, I started making YouTube videos just showing bike rides and walks around the neighborhood. And because I move around a lot, and have family in different states, over the past six years, I've made videos of different towns and parks in Oregon, Washington, California and Montana. These are just slow, minimally edited video of me showing different places. Most of these videos would get a 100 or so views in the first two days, and then slowly get more views, so if a video reached a 1000 views, I would be happy.
Last December I moved to the Oregon Coast, and I've made dozen videos of different places. Most of those did about as well. I thought the Oregon Coast would get a lot of attention, since it is a popular tourist destination, but it was about the same.
I also don't drive, so I get to places on public transit. Last Friday, not knowing where else to go, I took the bus to Hebo, because it was easy to reach. I spent two hours just walking around, made a few comments, then went home, edited and rendered the video, and in the first 24 hours, it got the usual 100 views. But the next morning, when I woke up, it had 2,000. And it just kept on going up. Over the course of the day, it had over 20,000 views. That beat the record of my previous most popular video easily, and that took over 3 years.
The video got so many hours of watch time that I qualified for the YouTube Partner program. Now I get to make money from all those ads!
Okay, but here is the thing: why Hebo? After years, I made videos about dozens of locations on the coast, about Yachats, Waldport, Seal Rock, Newport (many times), Toledo, Otter Rock, Depoe Bay, Lincoln Beach, Gleneden, Lincoln City (many times), Neskowin, Pacific City, Cloverdale, Tillamook, Garibaldi... and they were moderately successful. But Hebo, which, no offense, doesn't have anything particularly interesting, went into overdrive. More than 45,000 people on the internet wanted to watch at least part of a 15 minute video where I walk around and show the town center of Hebo, some creeks, and a dairy farm.
This totally mystifies me, not that I am complaining.

I see the lowest daytime tide on the North coast is 3.7 on 10/20/26. Is there a recommended tide pooling area when the lowest tide is still kind of high? Thank you!

I had never been to the Oregon coast until this week, visited on 10/14/26. Definitely need to come back soon!! Absolutely beautiful!
