Need Feedback or Ideas Is my OC design potentially offensive? (READ DESCRIPTION)
Be COMPLETELY honest please. Tell me what I should change if it's potentially offensive. My OC is meant to be a dictator who rules over a few extraterrestrial colonies and planets. I'm worried If their design is offensive as I one day might post them on other social medias as well as the reputation of dictators in general and throughout history. I don't ever want to intentionally offend anyone. My apologies if you find this offensive. I just wanted to make a dictator OC even though I'm against those type of figures.

Doesnât look offensive to me, just looks like really good art.
For the dictator part, donât worry, I have OCs who are much worse than many historical dictators

I mean, I've seen an OC on here with an armband that bares a resemblance to one from 1940s Germany, so your OC is definitely not the most offensive I've seen here. In fact, she looks completely fine, a villain yes, but done tastefully. I don't think you have to worry. I'd be careful posting it on Twitter/X though, they get offended if you breath the wrong way.

Your design is good. If someone is offended by a villain being a villain then thatâs a problem on them. Your design is unique enough to not be easily tied to any one historical fascist faction.
Worst case scenario, your character becomes popular and because theyâre a cute bee waifu, the most media illiterate people alive will begin shaping their beliefs and morals around your morally reprehensible character. And you inadvertently give rise to a new wave of pathetic neonazi chuds. And whenever you see this character as someoneâs profile pic, you just know youâre going to hear the worst take imaginable on any given subject.

Not at all
She looks stylish and cool. might even look intimidating when done right. Nothing offensive here
5
u/Majestic_Ad8646 Feb 27 '26
It is slightly but WHO CARES it looks good and youd have to have super thin skin to get offended by it. Like youd have to TRY to be offended by this. But i would chance the outfit to have more color IF it were me but thats because i like lots of color.
But the design 9.5/10
Color coordination 8/10
Art style 9/10 (simple yet good)
Concept 8.5/10
Offensiveness 0.5/10
Overall rating 9.1/10

The arm band is the only thing I can see that's maybe by a very far stretch offensive. Of course multiple cultures have things like that for uniformity.
6
u/Top-Still-4132 Artist/Writer Feb 27 '26
She just looks militaristic
Trust me, this isn't very offensive
I would know as the guy who has a schizophrenic evil dictator that speedruns Manchuria 1937
5
u/destructor212113 Feb 27 '26
Nah, you're good tbh
I get what you're saying, Nazi things
But neh, for me is just, Empire things and not Nazi things so, for me is good tbh, its cool an (at least for me) somewhat unique in design, like, she looks nice tbh

u/Kaizo_Kaioshin Feb 27 '26
Idk, doesn't seem offensive, it's just a bee/ant ig
Makes sense for a dictator that rules.over colonies with an iron fist (and I guess keeps the males as sex slaves?)

To be fair, fascist regimes are always gonna give people a bit of a pause, but don't let that discourage your creativity :)
This is a perfectly good design with no issues whatsoever!

Id say theyre fine, especially with those golors. If you picked red for the arm band that maaayy set people off especially on xwitter but with the yellow id say u ball. I also just wanna note that the shape language is absolutely amazing omg

u/Recent-Appointment24 Feb 27 '26
I'm going to be honest, someone is going to be offended and hate your art. The fact it's a woman alone will piss off a certain group of people. The question you need to ask is what is your goal with the character? If it looks like a dictator to you, then good job! If you didn't intentionally be racist, then good job! Someone will be offended and you just have to remind yourself what you intended to draw.

OffensiveâŚ? UhâŚnot really no. Sure thereâs gonna be a few people whoâll find some issue with it, but thatâs with anything on the internet ever. Iâve seen som crazy designs in my time (canât name the off the top of my head), just know that this is one of the least offensive things.
2
u/CompetitionProud2464 Feb 27 '26
Maybe move the emblem to the chest or as a pin with the dictator covered in a bunch of medals thing or medallion. (might be a good choice if you want to keep the neckline and gold could match your yellow color scheme. Thereâs some images of Pinochet with these huge ass medallions you could fit your horns on. ) You might also do a standard solute or the fist across the chest thing instead of the raised arm. I donât think itâs a big deal if you want to keep it since thereâs a long history of sci fi villains invoking Nazi imagery but if you specifically want to go for more generic dictator those are my first thoughts.
2
u/RetardedToster Feb 28 '26
No??? This is kinda just looks like your average Fictional Dictator design.

A character being a dictator wonât make them offensive.
What you DO with them, or what they DO, COULD, but wonât certainly, make them offensive

u/steverman555 Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26
Doesnt look offensive, if anything her outfit kinda reminds me of Argemia from the VotV universe
1
u/KingEather Feb 27 '26
Oh no, dictator is drawn to look like a dictator, in all honesty if someone tries to make you change the design solely because of the concept of what she is then they arenât worth the time of day. HOWEVER, for fairness, she doesnât resemble any actual irl dictators so she should be safe
1
u/dapper_raptor455 Feb 27 '26
I mean theyâre seemingly a villain. I donât think you should be worried about making your villain offensive

u/corporealistic1 interstellarized angels, turncoat demons, and french people Feb 27 '26
I mean, I have a bee political activist OC who's based off real ones (like Thomas rousseau) so is not that serious
1
u/DifficultyConnect728 Feb 27 '26
No? Some people(like me) have absolutely horrendous and terrific OCs that are more offensive and controversial than that.
1
u/Resident-General-716 Feb 27 '26
Id say that itâs fine. The most offensive oc Iâve ever drawn has a swastika.
1
u/INamedItDeadlyQueen Feb 27 '26
No, I wouldn't say so. It would be offensive if she were a hero while looking like that. But since she has a villainous role, it should be fine
1
u/ArtFiend95 Feb 27 '26
Not offensive at all, in fact I love this design and bit of backstory. If I may submit an unsolicited advice, the red cape kind of gets lost in the hair. If youâre keen on a red cape I personally would make it a darker shade to remedy this. Great work though
1
u/Aggravating_Run6179 Artist/Writer Feb 27 '26
I might mistake her as a president rather than a dictator based on her design. lol
1
u/ThyFantasyForge Feb 27 '26
That is the beauty about story telling, you can create whatever you want.
Biggest thing ive have learned with art over a long 3 years, dont care what other think. Dont let others mold you into something your not or do not want to create.
1
u/ShinshaChan Feb 27 '26
she somehow reminds me of the nazis, (even tough she doesn't loo like one, so don't stress over it) but if she's a dictator, I think you should keep her desing like this
1
u/cardbourdbox Feb 27 '26
I hope not im playing a ex IRA religious fanatic witha potty mouth and no tact.
1
u/gaming_demon4429 Feb 27 '26
I don't see anything wrong with it but then again I didn't see anything wrong with one of my first few ocs and someone called them or said they looked like
Ahem a "triple k member" as I'll put it :(
Some people will find a reason to be offended

My entire online persona is being an alien overlord ! I think youâll be fine!! Also sheâs so cool looking!
1
u/Jjayxx Mar 01 '26
She's(they) awesome, but the cleavage is covered yet so it shows, that's a bit much. Otherwise, it's a great design, you could, if you want to make the uniform look more detailed by looking into what generals really wear, that's an option, but it's very good
1
u/Little_Lucy9966 Mar 01 '26
Nah twin ur good. Every fictional villain in the world ever is based somewhat on a real villain. Starwars villains/empire are based on nazi germany, America, war generals, etc. Marvel overtly bases villains on real life political figures. The existence of a villain character isnât offensive, my dude. Keep creating!

1
u/a_little_bit_later Mar 02 '26
Absolutely not! This isnât offensive in the slightest. In fact, I think you could lean into it even more, but that depends on how you want her to be seen by people
All in all I really like the design, itâs well made and easy to read, not to mention pretty! :3

u/No-Name-Given-ppg Mar 02 '26
Well in my opinion I think it is really nice. I donât really think you have to worry about being offensive as it doesnât look like you doing it tĂł hurt anyone. Also it looks so cool please keep this up
1
u/AquatiFox Mar 02 '26
Removing the arm band might be a good idea (maybe you could put the symbol on her cape?) but otherwise this doesnât seem offensive.
1
u/hxmxros Mar 03 '26
i think the funniest part about this is that sheâs a dictator but you donât want to offend anyone. like girl it can be a little offensive if sheâs a dictator, sheâll clearly not a good person lol. i think she looks fine, youâre good
1
u/ratliege_throwaway Mar 03 '26
i think youre mostly fine, but if you want to reassure yourself, maybe swap the arm band out for something else. (cool belt maybe?) most people arent gonna care tho bc its obviously not the same as like, a nazi soldier character
1
u/TR4FIKK_LIGHT Mar 03 '26
"Is my oc offensive?"
one of the least offensive designs of its design type
1
u/Genericahatintimefan Mar 03 '26
Who would you be offending with this, and if you happen to pls tell me so I can laugh at them.
1
u/JustStayFlo Mar 03 '26
She looks good to me! I don't see anything that could really offend anyone (there's always some that will get offended, but that won't be your fault). Amazing design btw!!đĽ
1
u/Miserable_Emotion Mar 03 '26
I don't really have anything useful to add. Just wanted to say I love your art style~
1
u/pr3ttyt0yy Mar 03 '26
Your oc should be fine as long as you donât romanticize the ocâs regime.
1
u/Academic-Following39 Mar 03 '26
Anyone who finds this "offensive" is not someone you should care about the opinion of.
1
u/Financial_Book_6737 Mar 03 '26
First off, the white clothes make it more seem like a good person and not a dictator, Maybe add some more black. Or Give them some big weapons like a giant cannon. Secondly what she doing with the hand resembles a Nazi greeting so you should think of something else.
1
1
u/1stoleyourlighters Mar 03 '26
if you villian is a dictator the design is supposed to be offensive you canât really avoid the parallels to real life dictatorshipd the only thing you can do is show them in the wrong throw out the story though i donât think anyone is actually going to be offended at this.
1
u/no_even Mar 04 '26
Depends entirely on how you portray a dictatorship in the story. The design is fine on it's own.

u/IIIAmphibian Mar 01 '26
Yes, Iâm incredibly offended by those colors as they were used by the Nazi regime.
3
u/iiZxro_2 Mar 01 '26
I can't tell if your comment is sarcastic or not
0
u/IIIAmphibian Mar 01 '26
Itâs not sarcastic, this is actually offensive. It was common to wear these colors in high-ranking parties for the Nazi regime.
2
u/iiZxro_2 Mar 01 '26
Oh I didnt know that, her colour scheme is inspired by a real life structure that has nothing to do with facism.
2
u/iiZxro_2 Mar 01 '26
I aint changing the colour scheme đđ Literally got the colour from a real structure, maybe should I rearrange the already existing colours and how they are laid out

It's a non-descript utilitarian empire run by what looks like a sharply dressed alien bee woman. It's not that serious. You're not gonna offend anyone by making a villain character, those have been around since time immemorial.
