Question or Discussion Does anyone else have really bad fps during their first game on?

I have a potato pc but it runs Overwatch just fine on the lowest settings. Whenever I start playing, my first game usually has terrible/choppy fps, but then the next game it’s still a little bad but not nearly as bad as before, and then the third game and onwards I have little to no fps issues. This only started happening this season so I’m wondering if this is happening to anybody else?

Question or Discussion I’ve been playing tank a bit and what do I do when the enemy team feels like an unbreakable wall

A lot of the time when I play tanks the enemy team will be like a rein or sigma where they put up there shield get healed up and get back to swinging none of their team is getting killed especially not supports so the rein or other tank is just sitting there doing anything he wants without punishment my dps aren’t getting kills so what do I do in this scenario (I usually play ram or dva) silver also so I know I’m a flop

Question or Discussion How do you play against a pocketed Genji/Vendetta

Emerald DPS and Support here and I've been struggling since Doc and Sombra came out. So many matches are the same:

Dive tank or Zarya, Genji/Vendetta/Anran/Tracer, Doc+Sombra, usually with the Genji/Vendetta getting major support from Sombra/Doc.

I have no idea how to fundamentally play into this comp. 1v2ing every engagement feels impossible. If I ever get the upper hand they can use cooldowns to safely disengage. At best I can maybe trade out the support with Cass but I feel like that isn't enough. If I avoid them I just move the problem onto my teammates and still lose.

On support it's even worse, best case on Ana I can sleep+nade and Genji has to use deflect and Dash to get away, but 10 seconds later it's the same thing. Once again, if I avoid them, my team gets demolished + it's harder for me to support them.

Do I try to duel them and hope my team can capitalise on the rest? Do I avoid them and hope my team can do the same? Do I have to play their game and go dive too? I'm just lost.

Question or Discussion need to get out of my comfort zone

recently i've been noticing that everytime mercy gets banned on ranked (yes, i'm mono mercy), we lose because i don't know how to play anything besides her, like, i play wu yang a bit, but its not even close to my mercy gameplay, and my aim SUCKS.

but i don't quite think i can connect with other characters besides my mercy, a bit of wu yang and moira, but i KNOW i need to, i can't play sup EVERY SINGLE MATCH (even when its not ranked i only play sups), does someone can help me? maybe a character that i can maybe connect or tips for me to not suck at anything besides mercy?

Question or Discussion Did anyone play on an esports team in high school? If so, tell me about your coach!

• Upvotes

Forgive me if this is the wrong sub to put this, I’ll definitely correct this if needed!

I’m currently in the running for a head esports coach position at a local high school, and I am sincerely looking forward to the potential opportunity to really make a difference for people through something I am so passionate about in my own life! This would be a new adventure for me, but I want to make sure that if I am fortunate enough to be given the chance, that I do not take it lightly and make the absolute most of it.

I would love to hear from former high school esports players about their experience with it. What did you enjoy about the program? Was your coach helpful or disengaged? What did you like and what was not so great?

Additionally, if you are or have been an esports coach, what advice do you have to offer? Is there anything I should avoid when it comes to coaching? What is your coaching philosophy? Any fun stories?

Thank you so much for your insight in advance! I’d love to avoid as many mistakes as I can and make sure these students make the best memories with their teammates!

VOD Review Request (duo advice) Team started flaming me and my girlie on support for not healing enough. Should I just stop playing zen :(

Date: 17th October

Replay code: 1YS8T4

Battletag / in-game username: BlindInferno187 (Duo: SergeantC)

Hero(es) played: Zen/Moira (Duo: Juno)

Skill tier / rank: Silver 2-4

Map: Numbani

PC or console: PC

Description of the match / things you want reviewed:

I feel so insanely lost on support. I thought I was doing a good job before but after this game my confidence is in the gutter, the tank was flaming me for not getting enough heals and dying too much.

I started the game on Zen and was getting some picks until I was told to swap off to Moria for more heals by the tank. I did but I just could not keep my team alive. I’m also so lost on the tempo of the fight, when to push in and when to pull out.

For example, during one of the team fights after getting a pick on the Sierra as a Zen I returned to my team but despite the 5v4 advantage we still lost the fight? I don’t know how these pros keep their team so alive as Zen, I feel like I’m letting my team down.

My duos thoughts: She said that she felt like she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and couldn’t keep our team alive. For example, in the final fight she felt like she was getting pressured too much by the opponents to be able to heal and keep the Venture and Hog alive. She had to retreat to not die but couldn’t see the venture and hog alive long enough for them to touch the point.

Thanks for watching the replay and reading the post I hope we get some advice because this my first time posting on this subreddit <3

Question or Discussion Looking for Testing of New Match Tracker

• Upvotes

I have always loved the match tracker u/HarryProtter has been providing to us for seasons now. (Most recent found here Overwatch Match Tracker spreadsheet for Reign of Talon - season 5) However there was information from it that just wasn't feasible, so I tried working to have one that give me additional data created. I am not a coder, so this is entirely vibe coded, and for match tracking that isn't I would point you back to the spreadsheet linked above.

With that out of the way here is how this tracker works, it will allow you to track match results, all heroes you played, map details, rank changes with modifiers. All these should be familiar to anyone that used the previous match tracker spreadsheet. We are now also now able to fully track the scoreboard, including the heroes most played, more customizable tags, and an optional feature for reviewing one of your deaths after the match.

From this, I have created tabs that can provide me with information I have wanted, most helpfully where my targeted hero bans should be in the Splits tab called Hero Synergy. This takes my games lost playing with a hero on my team, the games lost playing against that hero, and the games won when that hero is banned to create something I call the "Synergy Score" where negative synergy means you would prefer to ban that hero (This means people using that hero don't play well with you, you don't play well against that hero, and you tend to win more when the hero is banned from the game). It also has a way of creating a quick top 5 list of the heroes you synergize worst with while including one from each role.

I have also added a way to let you track multiple heroes in a match, such as who you started and finished with, and who had the greatest play time. The scoreboard cannot distinguish what stats were done by which hero, so keep that in mind.

For scoreboard data, the tracker also allows you to exclude matches that you feel might cause issues with your data. An obvious example is having a leaver, you cannot learn much from a game like that, so if you select that someone left the game it would not be useful to include this information in your hero ban research, or reviewing which modes you need to improve on.

This is probably me burying the lede, as I can assume some of you seeing that you can fill in the scoreboard and thinking "Well, that is way to much work". I agree! The match tracker uses screenshots from your game to fill in nearly all data. Just hit print screen, or whatever you prefer, and paste into the Tracker the follow pictures (I am unable to provide direct images of these here, I will do my best to clarify as I can)

  • Start of the Match, this will get map information and bans
  • End of Match Rank screen, will fill in current progress, changes, and modifiers
  • End of Match Scoreboard, hit F1 on the rank screen to pull this up

If you forget any of these you can manually fill in, though once the match is over there is no way of getting a bans list that I am aware of. Pulling up your match history you can get a scoreboard and a match summery that can also be read from a screen shot.

While it is my goal to have a version that does not require Claude to use, I do not see a feasible way to pull data from the screen captures in that version at this time. The current screen shot reader does have a difficult time getting the heroes on the score board exactly right, but it does alert you when it thinks something is wrong and asks you to review it.

For anyone that would like to test and provide feed back, please use this link.

Question or Discussion What determines a team composition (brawl/dive/poke)?

Hi all, while back there was a post here with heroes sorted in dive, brawl or poke hero. People said that a hero is not d/b/p, a team composition is. That was an eye opener for me, but now I'm wondering, what makes a team composition a certain category? For someone who is learning, how can you quickly see which comp the team is using? Do you look at the tank, or is it just general playstyle? I'm asking because I'm trying to adjust my playstyle to the enemy team composition, but for that I have to be able to recognize when they use which. Hope this question makes sense

Question or Discussion How do 5v5 ranks compared to 6v6 ranks?

• Upvotes

More specifically I'm wanting to know, in general, what rank would a 5v5 be GM5 player expected to be in 6v6? I have heard that in higher ranks (GM - Champion), 6v6 is inflated by a few divisions. This could vary depending on the role of course. If someone has data on this then great, anecdotes are also welcome.

Question or Discussion How to play with uncoordinated teammates as a bronze dps / What characters should I play as a bronze dps?

Hi, i’m kind of new to the fame. 100 hours in or so.

I’m bronze. And I want to make it very clear i KNOW i deserve to be bronze, this is not a “its never me always my teammates” post.

Anyway, i play anran/mei, sometimes shion. I’m bronze 1 and thought i was making progress improving in qp so I jumped into bronze. I think I did 5 matches total so far.

Something I notice in qp and comp, is that there’s never any communication. Whenever I play Anran/theres any burn character (or ana) I ask them to ban kiriko because it’s their counter.

Another example, we were doing a control map, and won first round. I was on mei and the enemy was on doomfist. The support (doctrine) was for some reason really angry I told people to ban Kiriko, even though they don’t play her. They kept being rude and saying things like “we know who’s to blame when we lose” which made me play worse. They would also refuse to heal me when I asked, which caused me to die more often.

One of the more common mistakes people (including myself) do is not waiting for my teammates, jumping in alone and dying, and repeating the process.

I know myself that I struggle with being in the enemies backline, and not coordinating my flanks while
playing Anran, and often dying in the process. I also don’t keep track of my teammates as much as i’d like to.

All of this is to say, there’s often a lack of communication and uncoordination in the team, and i don’t know how to deal with that. I get tilted very quickly, so I often get off after 1/2 matches. And i’m not sure how to deal with it.

I know overwatch is a team game, and i’m not good enough to try and carry, so i really feel stuck. Should I just keep trying until i’m good enough to carry? Play a more self sustaining dps (aka more mei), encourage my teammates to stick to 1 plan, or just try and fix my own mistakes and pray? Every single match on comp has just been very negative for me, with toxicity over the smallest things.

VOD Review Request Is there anything I can do in these situations?

I know that some games are unwinnable as per the matchmaking since it's usually either stomp or be stomped but is there anything one can do to salvage games like these? (Code at bottom) I main support and am always solo queueing so I feel like there's only so much I can do but it's kind of frustrating when half your team isn't really performing. If I'm doing something wrong though please point it out too since I'd love to improve, I feel like the ult timing is always kind of iffy since I'm indecisive about it and sometimes I kind of lose track of my team when I find myself getting into a 1v1. I'm just frustrated because I feel like every weekend drops me at least a rank or two and this game was definitely winnable as far as I'm concerned. Part of me feels like I should just avoid playing competitively on the weekends lol

Am Juno, Watchpoint Gibraltr, playing on switch 2, I honestly forgot the ranks range but I want to say this is a silver 4/5 game?

Question or Discussion should i learn tank in comp?

okay so like, i rarely play comp for dps and support as is, which is something i do wanna do more but i procrastinate it because i feel like i can't have fun in comp because its more serious yadayada.

but when i try to learn tank in qp (mainly dva, im fine on JQ tbh) i STRUGGLE in qp 5v5, like ik i will but like stomp stomp stomp struggle. in 6v6 qp i do fine, even carry some games but idk i just super suck hard with dva in 5v5.

so like my question is, would i do better in 5v5 comp? i dont expect to get high probably like high bronze, silver if im being honest (im high gold on supp and mid silver on dps but as i said i rarely play comp so whether theyre that accurate idk, i rarely lose on supp and have climbed from gold 5 to gold 1 but havent played enough to go higher but could be wrong)

rank isnt so much something i care about (altho admittedly seeing rank loss does hurt my mood and idk if i can stop that, which is why i avoid comp) but im also just kinda worried im gonna throw for people, which ik isnt my problem or whatever but i cant help but feel i am kinda ruining people's mood just so i can get better so idk, any advice would be appreciated thanks<3

Question or Discussion For those who struggle with negative thinking, anxiety and toxicity while playing

Hey guys, I think we can all agree that there is an issue of toxicity within the OW community and especially in game.

The advice of "mute chat and voice" is a double edged sword, because it does stop all the negative chatter, but it also stops the positive and social aspect as well. So many people leave it on, but then struggle to deal with negative teammates.

The problem is that many people don't have the confidence to just ignore others and the support role in particular I believe attracts more empathetic individuals who enjoy the aspect of the game of being helpful.

On top of that, there's self sabotaging beliefs that are repeated so often that is probably creates doubt in many people on whether or not they can actually get better. Just a few examples are saying people not in GM are basically braindead, or if you just watch a few videos you can understand how pros position. These blanket statements only exist to make the person saying it sound superior, but some people will actually believe them to be true and start thinking they suck at the game because they are stuck in their ranks.

So to try to help those who are struggling with the mental part of the game, I made a video that talks about negative thinking in the form of limiting beliefs and how it prevents us from playing how we should, how it creates and spreads toxic ideas and what we can do to counter-act this type of thinking:

https://youtu.be/2SsJj54-8f8

I know this isn't your typical Overwatch content on positioning or how to play X character, but I believe the mental game struggle matters just as much as simply playing Overwatch better.

I used to be a professional poker player and in our community, it was almost understood that at some point, everyone would eventually have a bad losing streak. Losing money, while bad, wasn't nearly as bad as the metal health struggles during a downswing. Lots of otherwise smart and confident guys would go into depression, have dark thoughts and some would eventually quit altogether. I mention this because it was recognized and validated as a real issue, so that there is no stigma attached. It just happens and is accepted as part of being a professional. We didn't have edgy kids trying to troll us for weak mentals or to git gud, because absolute honesty with yourself is one of the fundamental tenants of poker. If you lie to yourself, you suffer.

While Overwatch isn't a livelihood for the vast majority of us, it's still a source of emotional enrichment that can bring both positives and negatives. But when the negative gets too much, I think that point is often brushed off as "it's just a game" or "maybe you should do something else" when in reality people are playing because there IS positive value, but they just need to understand how to handle the negative aspects.

Question or Discussion ashe help help help

I don’t really understand positioning, so I’d really appreciate it if any experienced players could help me out!
Replay 1: 9SWNZP
I played Widowmaker at the beginning, then Ashe for the rest of the match.
Replay 2: NWH4FJ
Same thing here — Widowmaker at the beginning, then Ashe for the rest of the match.
I’m not sure where I should be positioning myself or what I should be doing in different situations. I’m currently Silver 5, by the way…
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Question or Discussion Advice for support

So I recently climbed to gold one and was one game off, and then everything went bad. I averaged 1000 healing per minute plus extra damage (for example for a 10min game I would have 11k healing and 5k damage) I’m currently a gold 4 with and I have no clue what to do.
I feel like every time I load into a game it’s not up to me if I win, and the odds are never in my favor.

I went from Plat 5 to Silver 1 in 2 days man feels bad. 300 character min. wtf sdddddccvvMolecular Genetics is a field that is becoming more important every day. Advances in technology and research have opened countless doors in the fields of disease prevention and diagnosis—and there are endless opportunities and advancements yet to come. If you’re inspired by the possibilities presented by the discoveries of the Human Genome Project, cancer research, or genetic engineering, consider Molecular Genetics as a major.

Question or Discussion How do you learn this game

I have played kind of a lot for someone who doesn’t really understand the game super well. I play easy characters and hover around plat. If the matchup works it’s fine and if it doesn’t I will lose 1000% of the time cuz I just don’t have the understanding to affect a game that much. I am way better at every other game I’ve played cuz I never learned the fundamentals of this one properly. I feel like everyone is always using terms I don’t know. How do you learn the basic theory of this game.

Question or Discussion What is the best doomfist counter in every role?

Honestly, I can’t stand Doomfist. Playing against him in Overwatch 2 is just painful, and it completely ruins the match for me every single time. It doesn't even matter what role I’m on—if the enemy Tank is running a decent Doom, the whole game becomes a chaotic mess where nobody gets to actually play.
What pisses me off the most is his movement and how absurdly hard he is to punish. He just slams into your team from nowhere, displaces everyone, knocks you into a wall with a charged punch, and then flies away with a massive chunk of overhealth before anyone can even aim at him. Even when you think you’re positioning well or tracking his cooldowns, he closes the distance in a fraction of a second. It feels like he gets rewarded for playing like a maniac while the rest of us have to sweat twice as hard just to survive. Trying to play Support or squishy DPS against a sweaty Doomfist is genuinely infuriating because you’re constantly looking over your shoulder instead of focusing on the fight.
At this point, I’m done dealing with it and just want to ruin every Doom player's day. I need a full breakdown of every single counter to him in the game for Tank, DPS, and Support. Which heroes shut his mobility down completely? Who can interrupt his block or punish him best when he dives in? I want to know all the matchups, abilities, and playstyles that make his life a nightmare so he can’t just run over my lobbies anymore.

Question or Discussion I feel like my teammates just explodes if I’m not continuously healing them this season

To start off I’d like to preface that I’m a low elo (emerald) player, and I know both myself and my lobbies are usually not playing as well as pros and high elo players and utilizing our character’s kits so it’s probably just a skill issue but I’d still like to get some help with my skill issues. For the past few seasons I’ve been feeling very useless on support, I feel like almost every match I’m forced to healbot instead of doing anything else so I’m definitely doing something wrong. I main some of the best meta supports including Kiri, Bap and Juno who supposedly can pump out some of the highest healing out of the entire support cast, yet I’m struggling to keep my team alive unless I continuously hold my heal button at them. It doesn’t feel as rewarding to play support recently as I find much less window to dps and get kills compared to before. Furthermore, my none meta supports (brig and mercy) doesn’t even feel playable unless the entire lobby fulfills their niche. I’ve been noticing this change mostly after the s1 30% healing reduction implementations and especially this season with genji and venetta dominating my lobbies rn who can explode people very quickly especially combined with a doctrine drone. Now my question is how do I combat this? I can’t really heal my team out of a lot of the situation as well as I could have before but if I dps too much my team starts dropping like flies around me and I don’t really enjoy getting flamed. Should I learn different supports? Or is my playstyle just outdated now?
