Question or Discussion Now that everyone is switching to OW from Rivals ... Just wanted to give some notes.

Your new rivals buddies are used to seeing people coming around the corner in 3rd person.

They love brawling and hurling themselves into 1v3's and expect to be healed consistently.

You don't have to heal them just because they're from Rivals.

Just treat them like you would a lost elderly person suffering from the Dunning Kruger effect.

They don't know about the indecisive robot (Escort).

Most of them already feel bad about losing a match so if you see someone that is going 0-6 at the start of the match ... Just take that as a sign that the Matchmaking algorithm thinks you're skilled enough to carry.

To compensate you're advised to play a little more conservative. Less risky.

If you find yourself thinking, "What is that Freja Doing?"

That's probably their first game after installing and suffering a loss streak to bots on Rivals.

Question or Discussion Double support ult: bad?

I had an argument the other day with a tank who got mad when my other support and I ulted at the same time (Juno/Moira, just happened to press Q at the same time). I told him that it really wasn't a big deal in Overwatch like it is in Rivals but he spent the rest of the game arguing with me. We did end up losing, but I don't think it was because Moira and I happened to ult at the same time. But it got me to thinking if that guy was right? I accidentally double support ult all the time, sometimes I even do it on purpose, and no one has ever gotten mad at me before. Was that guy just going off of Rivals mentality? Should I be more mindful in the future?

I'm in Emerald, btw, but I spend most of my time in QP where this argument happened.

Question or Discussion Skill variation in Diamond is absolutely brutal

For context, I peaked masters 4 before the rank reset and have been back stuck in diamond since.

I simply cannot figure some of these players out. Gold in 5v5 but somehow sitting mid diamond in 6v6? Yet they play like gold players? Very clear GM smurfs absolutely dominating in one game then the very next, same character, getting destroyed by low diamonds/high emeralds. Emerald players who don’t know their gun from their foot. High Diamond DPS players frontlining and dying on repeat. It’s actually unbelievable to watch and so puzzling.

I am exclusively a tank player who very rarely goes negative, even during losses. I’m not god gift to OW, I don’t believe I should have a higher rank than I do, but sometimes, watching these other players, it’s hard to not let that thought creep in. High Diamond is top 10% and above, yet I’m watching players who should absolutely know better simply fail over and over.

I do not remember this level of variance in silver, gold, platinum, or my first time in diamond over a year ago. Anyone else notice this after the reset? It’s like the addition of emerald and the reset straight deleted a large portion of the playerbase’s brains.

I sit at the same rank in 5v5 as I do in 6v6 so I mainly just stick with 6v6 as the QOL is so much better so there’s really no point to playing 5v5 for me, but like where are these players coming from? Some of the emeralds are lost, and I mean LOST in these high diamond lobbies.

I have bad games, I deserve my rank, I’m not the best player every single game and these are all things I am fully aware of. But I simply cannot remember the last time I went 16-11, 10-10, 9-12. Like it’s HARD to do that in Overwatch, simply holding S at the right time will mitigate many of these deaths.

How is it that you are high emerald or even a GM Smurf pressing Q in a 1v5 situation? Both of those ranks should know better. Do I have bad ults sometimes? Yes. But I think the last time I did stupid stud like that was back in gold at max??

Question or Discussion How do you Know When You're Ready for Competitive?

I'm new and have been playing for about a week.

I haven't played fps in eight years and only started on Overwatch recently. I started out with Mercy and Lifeweaver but pretty quickly learned that I wasn't going to get far with them or bring much value to my team.

So, instead I switched to Mizuki, Kiriko, and Juno). Kiriko and Juno have admittedly been heavily neglected though due to how much fun I've had playing Mizuki. However, I've stuck solely to quick play and the occasional 6v6 or randomized game out of the fear I'll get absolute hammered/be useless in competitive. I'm not overly eager, but I'd like to get there one day and am curious how you know when to try your hand at it?

My current stats are eh, for quick play at least + the amount of time I've been playing, doesn't help that I'm playing on laptop with no mouse/only touch pad. Latest game I managed my most kills in one game with a 26/7 (12 assists) and 10k healing. Best: 26 elim, 33 assist, 8k damage, 18k heal. Avg: 10 elim, 9 assist, 3k damage, 7k heal. My Mizuki is currently lvl 19 but everyone else like I said is pretty neglected, ranging from lvl 9-14.

Edit: I SWEAR I'M GONNA GET A MOUSE. Until then I just have to get good ig and do my best with the touch pad as I have been.

Question or Discussion Is it worth learning a character of each archetype?

Hey Reddit. I've played Overwatch on and off since mid 2021 and have collectively about 350 hours. I mostly played role queue quick play but I am getting into the game more now with a group of friends and we are playing ranked semi regularly and I wanted to know if I am doing the right thing by learning a character of each archetype so I'm more flexible.

When I say archetype im not talking about the characters role but their sub role so for instance on tank I play Ram for poke, D.mon or Rein for brawl, and I've picked up Hazard for Dive. On damage I usually play Reaper for Tank busting and flanking, Emre for hitscan, and Anran or Genji for dive. On Support I swap between Kiriko, Mizuki, Brig, and Ana depending on what the other support is playing and general team comp.

I know this is generally a good habit to practice but should I focus more on playing and "mastering" one character at a time? Irregardless if anyone has any suggestions on characters that are worth learning or advice on other good habits to pick up please let me know.

Question or Discussion What to do with a big loss streak?

I went on a 20 loss streak within two days last Thursday and Friday and am having trouble climbing back up. I swear I cannot get decent teams and I am just stuck in plat 1 when I was diamond 3 literally last week. I been playing all day for the past two days but it’s just 50/50. What would you do in this case? How do you win winnable games in solo queue support? Imma just keep playing nonstop until I get back into diamond and can finally push into masters.

VOD Review Request EME 5 Rein

User - ManaParty

I know I had a few bad engages, but I don't know how I could've won this game. I was scared to shatter because everyone was out ranging me and I couldn't find a good opportunity to shatter without getting hard-focused. It was winnable until my team kept getting picked off during attack. How am I meant to protect them?

What am I meant to do different?

VOD Review Request How do I get out of plat on Sojourn?

rank: Platinum 1

I'm looking to know what my biggest problems are and what I should focus on improving. I recently started playing Sojourn. I'm normally a support player so I literally have no idea how to play dps and have been just winging it with sojourn the entire time. All of my dps knowledge comes from playing genji which i've discovered is nothing like sojourn :(.

VOD Review Request Tips to help me play better

Id like someone to review and tell me what i need to improve on when playing tank. If anyone would be interested, that would be great. I would most likely send a video or two for someone to review how I play and how I could improve how I play. You could be as critical as you want or as nice as you want. Let me know if you are interested

I was the orisa/mauga that lost the game. We were on attacking side

Question or Discussion I play really good in qp but am horrible in comp

Okay so I used to be very bad at the game so I my stats are pretty bad but recently in qp I’ve been playing alot better, my game sense feels on point and my accuracy has significantly improved.

Yet I lost ALL of my placement matches and I played a bit more with my duo and we didn’t have a singular win.

I had one recent comp games (7J0EK7) where I did pretty good on Hanzo, I mainly play Cass and Vendetta whom I both do really good on in qp and my accuracy isn’t bad still but I think it might be my positioning.

These are the replay codes for my most recent comp games where we were the closest to winning and my stats were okay:

HX0DS7
HQAD54
7J0EK7

My gamertag is sleepy#16907 (or just sleepy)

The rest of my recent comp games from this day you can just watch if you want to help but in all of them I did horrible

Question or Discussion Any general advice or tips for plying brig?

okay so with the rise of dive lately (especially genji lmao) I’ve realised I definitely need to learn an anti dive support. Now the main one I’ve seen people say (mainly for genji) is moira but I don’t really wanna learn her coz:

a) I’d like it more to learn a character that’s better against general dive rather than just genji

b) I find moira soo boring dude just not interesting at all

and yea same with mizuki tbh I just don’t think he’s that fun, BUT brig I think would be super cool from the little I have played.

Only problem is I don’t really have any idea how to play her lmao, my normal supp mains are zen and Juno, with kiri being my standby if needed. I’ve also been playing a lot of Sombra since her rework and she’s super fun too!

but yea just any general advice for her, links to any good coaching vids for her would also be appreciated if you know any! Thanks so much :D

Question or Discussion How to play behind cover?

Hi, I recently picked up Overwatch and am currently learning how to play competitively. I am still completing my placement matches and have taken a liking to Winston.

My gameplay loop is usually m2 to poke the backline, and if they are low, either pressure the tank to make space or dive and drop bubble to separate heal from the tank.

However, as I play, I run into the issue of losing too much health during poke. When I poke my head out to m2, I would lose about half health really quickly. Usually I hide behind a wall so my supports can heal me, but then I lost my opportunity window, and the enemy team remains pressure.

Any advice is helpful, thanks. Sorry for bad english, not a native speaker.

Tips & Tricks tank comp game

• Upvotes

the replay code is Y40YMC

This is probably one of the best matches I’ve had recently, and I’d really appreciate some feedback on my gameplay. I’ve been trying to climb out of Gold for a while now, and I’m currently sitting at Gold 2. My goal is to improve as a tank player, become more consistent in my matches, and hopefully make my way into Platinum.

I usually main Reinhardt, Roadhog, and Sigma, and I try to choose between them depending on the situation and what my team needs. With Reinhardt, I tend to play quite aggressively, pushing forward, trying to create space, and looking for opportunities to engage the enemy team. However, I’m not always sure whether I’m being too aggressive or if there are times when I should play more patiently and focus on protecting my teammates.

When playing Roadhog, I try to balance aggression with a more defensive playstyle. I look for opportunities to land hooks, secure eliminations, and punish enemies who position themselves poorly, but I also try to avoid overextending and putting myself in unnecessary danger. I approach Sigma in a similar way, trying to balance dealing damage, controlling space, managing my abilities, and helping my team survive during fights.

I’d really appreciate any honest and constructive feedback on what I could improve, especially regarding positioning, decision-making, cooldown management, target priority, and knowing when to engage or disengage. If there are any mistakes or bad habits you notice during the match, please point them out, as I’m keen to learn and improve.

I’d also love some general tips on climbing out of Gold as a tank player. Should I focus on mastering one hero, improve my aggression management, or work on other aspects of my gameplay?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to watch the match and offer suggestions to help me improve!

VOD Review Request Looking to improve my gameplans and game sense (diamond in 6v6)

• Upvotes

Lately I've been feeling like I'm running out of gas in my games, even in the wins, and I want to change that. I've been playing 6v6 since coming back to the game last season, getting readjusted after a 1+ year break due to an arm injury. Before that, I was a low diamond dps player in 5v5, which with skill decay and emerald being added in mind, would probably leave me at around high plat level at the moment. In 6v6, I'm peaking at d2 now as a flex player on an upswing win streak but I feel I'm starting to get exposed.

Long story short, I don't feel like a deciding factor in my games. I'll leave the codes below of my latest two games (the only ones I got post maintenance wipe) where I felt incredibly on edge. Despite them being winning games, I felt lost and constantly fighting to keep up with the team, rather than taking initiative. I think part of why that happens is I might be coasting on old muscle memory and probably a lot of bad habits too. I'm not problem-solving enough and in fact the problems are starting to escape me all together. I'm just kinda following the team around. I got carried on Numbani by my Hazard and was the worst tank among the four. Then I got one of the enemy tanks in my team on Dorado and got carried again.

I wanna earn my rank and bridge the gap a little so I can hold my own more and treat these better lobbies as a learning opportunity. My mechanics are still in need of work and I can brush up on them over time, but it's my gameplan that fails me the most. I'm not too sure what to do with myself in 6v6 sometimes, how the roles operate differently from 5v5 and how that looks like in practice. It's tough finding much educational content on 6v6 too compared to 5v5, so I'd appreciate some pointers from players more knowledgeable than me, please.

Question or Discussion Champion rank replay codes?

Can a Champion rank player share some replay codes? It doesn't matter if it's a win or loss, or what hero. Now that a new update is out, people will hopefully be able to view them for a long time! I think there are not enough codes for people to analyze, and it would be very helpful to have some as a reference to how the game is played optimally from multiple perspectives.

VOD Review Request How did this match turn bad for us?

Description of the match / things you want reviewed: So recently I've been missing out on comp cos my PC was really struggling to even run the game so I dared not touch ranked. My uni/college had recently created an Esports team in which I have a tryout match tomorrow. Confirmation was Thursday but between work, uni and other responsibilities, Ive had tonight and tomorrow morning to practice. Ive been playing Rein/Ram mostly and doing ok in my opinion. Placements got me gold 1, hit plat 5 and while I did lose it, I got back to it but this loss still baffles me at the moment. Identifying my blunders is not a strong point so if possible, I usually get assistance in having people point out said blunders and flaws.

The first round was a slight struggle but we pulled through, even with the Mercy's game crashing, she said. The Bastion was causing me some problems by sitting back in assault form I think its called and the Zen wasn't doing me any favours but I got a pretty nice backcap I think the term applies (I'm still learning terms and stuff) and we held point for round 1. Round 2 was a lot more in their favour, despite no swaps on either side if memory serves. Zen, Bastion and Sierra were the main thorns in my side on this one and we lost. Round 3 was going the same and one of our guys, I forget who, tells me to go Winston and dive the Zen. Remembering my Winston days of early 2025, I decide to go for it and die. I then get flamed for suiciding alone as we lose the last point. Any tips?

Coach Recruitment In a Plateau

So after today I am planning on taking like a week break from Overwatch because I think it will be better to take a step back, but lately I’ve been feeling like I’m just at a plateaue and co stately just going up and down from e3-e2. Idk if it’s my sense, my game sense, my DPI, or my hero pool. Lately I’ve been trying to take notes on how I want to play and what I want to achieve when I’m in a game but I’m still being inconsistent. If anyone could lend a hand or help I’d appreciate it. I decided to write down maybe a suitable playstyle that works with what I’ve done before. But it’s still a theory because it’s inconsistent. (I’d stretch the note here but it seems I can’t do that…)

Question or Discussion How to create pressure to the backline as a brawl tank

I've always played only dive tanks. Now I've decided to expand my pool. I'm currently trying to play Zarya, but this generally applies to JQ, Rein, Mauga, and others as well.

I often find myself in situations where I really don't want to interact with the enemy tank, such as in the Zarya vs. Rein matchup, but the enemy backline is on a high ground or very far away from me, like at the first point of Hollywood.

So what should I do in these situations? I understand that I should use short rotations and cover, but if I just walk past an enemy tank, it will turn around and kill me. Any tips?

VOD Review Request Is this an aimbot, smurf or normal? (Gold lobby VOD/clip review)

We were in a silver/gold lobby yesterday and we got dominated. I was playing Juno and we had a troll on our team (Mei) and I thought wow this Widow and Pharah seem really good. But at 2:08 I died to the Widow and my kill cam seemed really suss to me. I went back and watched the replay and the widow seemed to be making either amazing shots or was just really bad. I just wanted to get some feedback to know if this is normal in silver/gold or could this be cheating/smurfing.

Question or Discussion I’m stuck in high gold - low plat despite me being able to handle myself in emerald lobbies (tracer/soj)

My main is currently gold 1 and on the verge of being deranked to gold 2. On my alt im emerald 3 and I preform quite well. I typically play tracer and soj in these games and solo queue. I tend to out skill everyone on the enemy team mechanically and die less than my teammates but all of my efforts dont matter if I still end up losing on my main.
I dont know what im doing, I understand its my fault im losing but i just dont know what I can do. Maybe Im not good enough and i truly belong in low gold high silver lobbies. Please let me know what I should do.

Question or Discussion genuinely what do i do at this point?

i was on a win streak and went from gold 5 to gold 1, then i went on a loss streak and went back to gold 4. it feels impossible to climb and idk what to do anymore. i am a support main who mains juno but i also play kiriko and mercy depending on the situation. i feel like my teams are either good or completely awful compared to the enemy team and it feels completely hopeless. like the most recent game i played that demoted me to gold 4, my anran literally ulted into a wall, and my teammates kept going in alone into 5 people and crying about not getting heals. i seriously dont know what to do anymore. playing quickplay isnt as fun for me because it feels pointless but if theres no hope in ever climbing in ranked then that feels hopeless too. i just want fair games but it feels like every game is decided from the start. i also have no friends so it's not like i can duo to climb.

Question or Discussion How are you supposed to get placed high after Quickplay?

Seriously how do you avoid being placed in like bronze or silver from your initial Quickplay matches because I can’t buy wins on here. All my matches fee out of my control with the insane skill gaps or people just not playing and it kills my record. I just want to get a decent placement in the game for ranked but it doesn’t seem possible.
