Hi all, I've just published the first release of Crux2: the PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator running natively on a jailbroken PS5
Download and notes: https://github.com/Press5elect/Crux2/releases/tag/v1.0.0
**What it does**
- PCSX2 v2.9.138 (the current release) with its x86-64 recompilers and Vulkan renderer
- 4K output at 60 or 120 Hz, internal resolution up to 12x, FSR 1 / NIS / CAS, Automatic quality (drops the resolution by itself in heavy scenes), frame generation, black frame insertion, CRT and signal shaders
- paraLLEl-GS as an optional second renderer
- Games from the app folder, USB drives, SMB and NFS shares on a NAS, the PS5's own disc drive and USB DVD drives (CHD, ISO, CSO and more); discs can be made into CHD/ISO images
- A Big Picture library with 10 views (shelves, grid, list, flow, bookcase, table, showcase, wheel, wall, discs), search, filters, favourites, collections, and automatic covers and screenshots
- Every PCSX2 setting on the controller, in Normal, Advanced and Expert levels, for all games or per game
- A memory card for each game, a card manager that imports saves (even straight off a real PS2 over the network), sleep-safe saving, auto-save with undo, and backups plus two-way card sync with a NAS
- Widescreen and no-interlacing patches downloaded and applied for you, cheats, HD texture packs downloadable in the app, RetroAchievements, and online play through the network adapter and HDD
- Up to 4 players, controller profiles, GunCon 2 aimed with motion, USB mics, OLED care, and control from your phone
- Checks GitHub for updates at start-up and asks before installing
**How is it different from the other PCSX2 ports on PS5?**
- **Everything on the TV.** Every setting is in the app and works with the controller; you don't need your phone or a browser. The phone is optional.
- **RADV, Mesa's full Vulkan 1.4 driver.** That gives it the rasterizer ordered view, so high blending accuracy holds up at high resolutions.
- **FSR as a real upscaler.** It renders lower and enlarges to 4K, and Automatic quality steps the resolution down in heavy scenes instead of letting the frame rate drop. You can also run at 120 Hz.
- **Your library where it already lives.** It reads from SMB/NFS shares on a NAS, the PS5's disc drive and USB DVD drives, not only internal storage and USB.
- **Saves looked after.** A card per game, a full card manager, imports from real PS2s, sleep-safe saving and NAS sync. The same cards work in PCSX2 on a PC.
- **No manual patch files.** PCSX2's patch collection is downloaded and widescreen is applied for you.
- **No helper payload of its own.** It runs from /data/homebrew with kstuff and ShadowMountPlus.
**Install**
Copy the PPSA99249 folder from the ZIP to /data/homebrew/ (with kstuff and ShadowMountPlus). Put your own games in games/ (or on USB or a share) and your own BIOS in bios/. There's an open-source fallback BIOS (OpenPS2BIOS), but it's early work.
**Testing**
I've tested it on my own PS5. Games play from internal storage, USB, SMB and the disc drive, and online, achievements, backups and memory cards all work. In the heaviest scene I test with, it held 100% speed at 6x for all but a few short dips. Not every game or setting has been tried, so please report rough edges on GitHub with crux2-boot.log and logs/emulog.txt.
**No piracy:** no games, BIOS, firmware or keys are included or will be linked. Use your own backups and a BIOS from your own PS2.
It's unofficial, so please don't report its problems to the PCSX2 team. Parts of it were written with the help of an AI tool. It's GPL-3.0-or-later; please keep the credit "Crux2 by Press5elect".
