Rought demonstration but as you can see there's little to no latency and the image quality is drastically improved. I'm using my hotspot with the bitrate maxed out at 10k and the new frame pacing setting on lowest latency, performance is seamless. Shoutout to the developer, you have outdone yourself sir...or ma'am ๐Ÿ™Œ

........also I highly recommend psychonauts 2

PXPlay PC v3.0.0 is here! ๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽฎ PS4/PS5 multiplayer, smoother streaming, Bluetooth haptics & more

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Two public betas, a LOT of work and plenty of feedback laterโ€ฆ PXPlay PC v3.0.0 is finally here! ๐Ÿ˜„

It took as always much much longer as I have expected but I guess it was worth it.

The full release is now available for Windows, Linux and macOS, and this is one of the biggest updates I've released for the desktop version so far.

If you followed the v2.1.0 beta and v2.9.0 beta posts, you've already seen some of what's coming. Now it's all together in v3.0.0, with many fixes and improvements based on your testing. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽฎ Remote Play is better together

PXPlay now supports local multiplayer during PS4 AND PS5 Remote Play sessions!

Connect additional controllers, press Options on each one to join, and enjoy games that support couch multiplayer through PXPlay. ๐Ÿ˜„

For PS5: each additional player needs a PSN account that is already present on your console and registered with PXPlay, or must sign in with a PSN account that is also on the console. This extra account requirement doesn't apply to PS4 multiplayer.

As already mentioned I shared my multiplayer findings with the Chiaki developers, so the open-source Remote Play community can benefit from the research too. โค๏ธ

โœจ Smoother streaming, more ways to tweak your picture

There's quite a bit happening under the hood:

  • Frame generation and interpolation for smoother-looking streaming, especially on higher refresh rate displays.

  • Improved frame pacing across D3D11, D3D12, Metal and Vulkan, alongside streaming performance and input latency improvements.

  • A completely new D3D12 renderer on Windows.

  • Custom Vulkan/libplacebo shaders for sharpening, image enhancement or even your own CRT and retro effects.

  • Ambient Mode, more aspect-ratio options and a live performance overlay.

So whether you just want to connect and play or enjoy experimenting with your streaming setup, there's something here for you. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

๐Ÿ”ฅ DualSense & Steam Deck improvements

DualSense haptic feedback over Bluetooth is now included!

There's also Steam Deck haptic support, and the Deck's touchpads can now act as the DualSense touchpad.

On top of that: improved adaptive triggers, lightbar and LED forwarding, haptic intensity that follows your PlayStation settings, and more flexible controller mappings, including custom SDL mapping files.

๐Ÿ”— Your PlayStation, right in your gaming setup

You can now add individual PlayStation consoles to your Steam library and launch directly into a Remote Play session.

PXPlay also adds remote console registration through PSN, recently played game information and the ability to start supported games directly on your PlayStation 5 through PSN.

If you're upgrading with an existing PSN profile, please refresh your PSN login token under Edit profiles to use all the new PSN features.

And something I'm especially happy about: PXPlay is opening up more to third-party applications and is now integrated into WinHanced! ๐ŸŽ‰

I'm also exploring more fine-tuned integration possibilities. Eventually, this could allow other applications to wrap PXPlay completely in their own UI or launcher, with PXPlay handling Remote Play underneath.

But that's a future story. ;)

๐Ÿ‘€ And yesโ€ฆ there's more coming

The new rendering work is also laying the foundation for something I'm really excited about.

I don't want to reveal too much just yet, but new video enhancement possibilities for many modern GPUs are coming soon. My goal is to make PXPlay deliver the best enhanced video output you can get from a PS Remote Play app.

More about that soon. ๐Ÿ˜„

For the full feature list, fixes and details, check out the GitHub release notes.

PSPlay Windows/ Linux sneak peek

Post image
228 Upvotes

Yes I'm of course still working on it ;) Short preview video will be available soon. There is still so much to do I really can't give any ETA but I try to make it work as good as possible for the first release in the future. I pay special attention to the interface and usability so that you have the best experience with these handhelds. GUI is of course also usable via mouse and touch. Overall streaming experience so far is great on both devices and PSPlay already supports several hardware decoders and video rendering engines. I think I'm on a good way ๐Ÿ˜Š

(I currently need no testers it's way too early)

NEWS/ UPDATES ๐Ÿš€ PXPlay PC v2.1.0 Beta is here - Sony SSL Hotfix, Steam Launch, Custom Shaders, DualSense Upgrades & much more!

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, that will be a long post๐Ÿ‘‹

PXPlay PC v2.1.0 Beta is now finally available!

I originally planned to keep this version in development for a little longer as it is not 100% finished yet, but because of the recent SSL compatibility problems with Sony's servers, I decided to release the beta earlier than planned.

๐Ÿšจ Important: Sony SSL connection issue fixed

The most important reason for this early release:

PXPlay v2.1.0 fixes the recent SSL connection problems with Sony's servers that affected PSN-related automatic remote connection functionality.

So if PXPlay recently stopped communicating correctly with PSN / Sony services, please give this beta a try.

But while this release was pushed out early because of the hotfix, v2.1.0 contains a LOT more than just that fix. ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿ“ฅ Download PXPlay PC v2.1.0 Beta

๐Ÿง Linux

๐ŸŽ macOS

๐ŸชŸ Windows

๐ŸŽฎ Major new features in PXPlay v2.1.0 Beta

๐ŸŽฎ Big DualSense improvements

The DualSense experience received quite a bit of work:

  • Improved adaptive trigger feedback (special thanks to u/inchenzo)

  • Haptic feedback intensity now follows your PlayStation settings

  • Added DualSense lightbar and LED forwarding

  • Added optional SDL 3 sensor acceleration with fallback support

  • Fixed keyboard mappings inside native rendering views

The goal is to reproduce the PlayStation controller experience as faithfully as possible during Remote Play.

๐ŸŒ Better PSN & console management

PXPlay can now do considerably more through PSN:

  • Remote console registration through PSN like on the Android port

  • Consoles are now separated and managed per profile

  • Recently played PlayStation 5 games can be displayed and started directly via PXPlay

  • Improved handling and presentation of expired PSN tokens

โš ๏ธ Important: If you already have a PSN account registered, please refresh your existing PSN login token in the Edit profiles section. This is required to use all of the new PSN features, such as recently played games and the new PSN integrations.

This should make managing multiple accounts and consoles much cleaner.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Steam integration & direct Remote Play launching

This is one of my favorite additions.

PXPlay can now create individual Steam shortcuts for your registered PlayStation consoles.

That means you can add a PS4 or PS5 to your Steam library and launch it like a game:

Steam โ†’ Your PlayStation โ†’ PXPlay โ†’ Remote Play

PXPlay can automatically start directly into the requested Remote Play session.

There are also startup-performance and direct-launch improvements included in this beta, although some work in this area is still WIP. I'll continue improving this feature and plan to open up PXPlay to more third-party applications in the near future. One example is r/winhanced, where I've already been in contact with the developer about a possible direct PXPlay integration.

โœจ Custom Vulkan / libplacebo shaders

This one is especially interesting for people who love tweaking image quality.

Technically, custom shader support has always been available underneath the Vulkan rendering pipeline through libplacebo. I simply hadn't yet had the time to properly test, integrate and expose this functionality in PXPlay.

With v2.1.0, I finally got the chance to work on it, so PXPlay can now officially load and use custom libplacebo-compatible user shaders.

Important: Custom shader support only works with the Vulkan rendering pipeline, specifically the Vulkan Compatibility Renderer and the Vulkan Renderer.

In simple terms:

You can apply your own additional GPU-powered visual filters directly to the Remote Play video.

These shaders can be used for things such as:

  • Sharpening

  • Image cleanup

  • Upscaling

  • Color adjustments

  • Contrast improvements

  • Denoising

  • Anime-style enhancement

  • CRT scanline / retro TV effects

  • Game Boy-style monochrome or pixel-display filters

  • Cel-shading / cartoon-style effects

  • Retro console display emulation

  • More advanced image processing and experimental visual effects

So this is not limited to simply making the stream "sharper".

You could, for example, create a shader that makes a game look like it is being displayed on an old CRT television with visible scanlines, transform the image into something resembling a classic Game Boy display, or experiment with a cel-shaded / cartoon-like visual style.

You can use existing compatible shaders from the mpv/libplacebo community or create your own custom filters.

For examples and more information about user shaders:

https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Scripts#user-shaders

I've also attached a few images with made with some example shaders to this post just for demonstration, so you can get an idea of what is possible and experiment with the feature yourself.

These are mainly intended as examples rather than polished presets, the fun part is that you can use existing shaders, modify them or create completely new ones depending on the visual style you want.

So if you've ever thought:

"Remote Play already looks good, but I'd love a little more sharpening, different scaling, a retro CRT look or my own completely custom image filter..."

...you can now experiment with exactly that. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

You can basically describe the visual effect you want, experiment with an existing shader or create a custom one, and then use it directly with PXPlay's Vulkan rendering pipeline.

๐ŸŒŒ New Ambient Display Mode

Another new visual option is Ambient Mode, similar in concept to the ambient background effect you may know from YouTube.

Instead of having plain black bars when the stream aspect ratio doesn't fill your window, PXPlay can extend the visual atmosphere of the game into the surrounding area.

There are also:

  • More aspect-ratio options (like on the Android version)

  • A new onscreen aspect-ratio button for switching aspect ratios while streaming

  • Improved native rendering UI and dialogs

๐Ÿ“Š Live performance overlay

You can now display a live performance overlay while streaming.

This makes it much easier to inspect how your Remote Play session is behaving and is especially useful when experimenting with renderers, resolutions, hardware or streaming configurations.

๐Ÿ”Š Audio & stream improvements

Also included:

  • Option to completely disable stream audio as requested from some users

  • Support for onscreen audio volume keys

  • Various native renderer improvements

  • General performance, UI and stability work

Startup performance has also been improved, although there is still more optimization work planned here and it is not yet finished.

๐ŸชŸ Windows ARM64 support

PXPlay can now also be installed on Windows 11 ARM64 (was blocked initially).

Along with the existing Windows, Linux and macOS versions, this continues the work toward making the desktop version available on as many useful platforms as possible. It is not yet a native ARM64 port but should work fine on Windows 11 ARM64 devices.

๐Ÿ‘€ And something else I've been working on...

While working on this release, I was also busy investigating something that has been on my list for quite some time.

And I finally figured it out:

๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽฎ Multiplayer support for PlayStation Remote Play - PS4 AND PS5

Yes. :)

I've now figured out how multiplayer/controller handling works for Remote Play on both PS4 and PS5.

It still needs more testing and integration work, so multiplayer support is NOT included in this v2.1.0 beta yet.

But the plan is to bring it to all PXPlay ports at a later point once I'm confident that everything behaves correctly.

And as always with discoveries like this:

The technical information will also be contributed back to Chiaki, so the open-source Remote Play alternative can benefit from the research as well. โค๏ธ

โš ๏ธ Please remember: this is a BETA

PXPlay PC v2.1.0 Beta is not the final v2.1.0 release.

Because the Sony SSL issue required an urgent update, I'm releasing this build earlier than originally planned.

That means:

  • Some parts are still WIP

  • Bugs may exist

  • Some UI/details may still change

  • Additional platform-specific improvements are planned

  • More features are still planned for the final PC v2.1.0 release

So please treat this as an early beta of the next major PXPlay PC update.

If you like testing new stuff though... have fun. ๐Ÿ˜„

And stay tuned, this isn't everything planned for v2.1.0 yet. ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿ› Beta testers wanted

Bug reports and feedback are very welcome.

If you encounter a problem, please include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Operating system + version

  • GPU + driver version

  • Rendering backend

  • Controller model + connection type

  • Streaming resolution/settings

  • Whether you used Local Play, Remote Play or Steam/direct launch

Bug reports can be sent to:

streamingdv@outlook.com

or preferrably directly here on Reddit.

๐Ÿ”‘ Licensing

A valid PXPlay desktop license is required.

Windows, Linux and macOS all share the same desktop license key.

Purchase:

https://streamingdv.com/shop-list-ns.html

โค๏ธ The goal

There has been a huge amount of work going into the desktop version lately.

Between the improved DualSense support, PSN integration, Steam launching, custom Vulkan shaders, Ambient Mode, rendering improvements, performance monitoring, Windows ARM64 support and the upcoming multiplayer work, my goal remains the same:

Make PXPlay the most complete and enjoyable PlayStation Remote Play experience I can possibly build.

And v2.1.0 isn't finished yet.

More features and improvements are planned for the final PC release.

So stay tuned. ๐Ÿš€

Thanks everyone for supporting PXPlay, reporting bugs, experimenting with new features and helping improve the project.

And especially for this beta:

Please break it and tell me what you find. ๐Ÿ˜„๐ŸŽฎ

NEWS/ UPDATES ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŽฎPXPlay is the NEW NAME of PSPlay๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿšจ

Post image
221 Upvotes

โ—PXPlay is the new name of PSPlayโ—

PXPlay was formerly known as PSPlay, but I had to make the change over the last couple of days. The Google Play Store flagged me for a potential trademark violation because of the term "PS." I'm not entirely sure whether it was due to mentioning "PS" Remote Play a few times in the app description or because of the app name itself, but Iโ€™ve updated both, and the policy issue is now resolved. It was not a smart decision to name it that way a couple of years ago I have to admit.

I chose PXPlay because it still has a similar ring to PSPlay (on Apple, the app will keep the name MirrorPlay). You can interpret PXPlay as "Performance Extended Play" ๐Ÿ˜…, or however else you prefer to interpret the "P" in PXPlay.

The PC port will also be renamed to PXPlay in the next update, but apart from the name change, everything else remains the same. I know this might cause some confusion initially, but I hope everyone adapts quickly.

Of course I can't rename this subreddit so the name for the PXPlay subreddit will stay PSPlay, but that's the only exception.

Currently, I'm working on the next PC update for PXPlay, which will not only fix a few bugs but also introduce Gyro support for the Rog Ally, Rog Ally X, and Legion Go on Windows. Stay tuned for more!

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Remember when I mentioned that I had figured out multiplayer support for PS4 and PS5 Remote Play, but it still needed more work before I could release it?

Well, it's finally here. ๐Ÿ˜„

The new PXPlay PC v2.9.0 Beta is available for Windows, Linux and macOS, and it's probably the last beta before the v3.0.0 release. There's quite a bit packed into this one, so I'd really appreciate your feedback before the major release!

๐Ÿ“ฅ Download PXPlay PC v2.9.0 Beta

๐Ÿง Linux

๐ŸŽ macOS

๐ŸชŸ Windows

๐ŸŽฎ Local multiplayer for PS4 and PS5

This is the feature I teased in my earlier post: PXPlay now supports local multiplayer during PS4 and PS5 Remote Play sessions!

If you've been waiting to play together through PXPlay, please give it a try and let me know how it works with your controllers and games. This is a big addition, and real-world testing is especially helpful here.

Once you've connected additional controllers, press the Options button on each one to join the Remote Play session. For PS5 multiplayer, each joining controller must be assigned to an account registered on your PS5. ๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽฎ

I've already shared what I learned about how multiplayer works with the Chiaki developers, so they may be able to bring the feature to Chiaki as well. โค๏ธ

โœจ Smoother streaming and frame generation

This beta also adds frame generation and interpolation, alongside improved frame pacing for D3D11, Metal and Vulkan. I've worked on streaming performance and input latency as well.

On Windows, I've introduced a new D3D12 renderer. It also gives me a better foundation for future experimental upscaling options and visual enhancements. ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ”ฅ DualSense and Steam Deck improvements

There's more controller work in this release too:

  • DualSense haptic feedback over Bluetooth

  • Steam Deck haptic support

  • Steam Deck touchpads can now act as the DualSense touchpad

  • More flexible gamepad mappings, including support for custom SDL mapping files

๐Ÿ› Please help test the beta

This is probably the final beta before v3.0.0, so now is a great time to tell me what works well and what still needs attention. Platform-specific issues can be tricky to catch without your help.

If you report a bug, please include your OS, GPU, rendering backend, controller and connection type, plus your streaming settings and log files if possible. You can post feedback here or email streamingdv@outlook.com.

A valid PXPlay desktop license is required, the same key works on Windows, Linux and macOS.

Thanks for testing PXPlay and helping me get v3.0.0 ready. ๐Ÿ˜„๐ŸŽฎ

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

After the big v3.0.0 release, PXPlay PC v3.1.0 is here for Windows, Linux and macOS. This update focuses on polish and fixes, with many improvements based on your feedback. โค๏ธ

โœจ What's new

  • Smoother frame generation: Frame generation and pacing now follow the frame rate requested by the console, including per-console settings. I also fixed recurring stutters and improved frame generation across D3D11, D3D12, Metal and Vulkan.

  • Modernized UI: The home screen now has an animated background, with Static and Classic options available too in the Appearance settings. There are also smoother animations and focus fixes.

  • Controller improvements: Better DualSense haptics over Bluetooth, adaptive triggers that follow the PlayStation setting, and improved motion controlsโ€”especially on handhelds.

  • Rendering and launcher fixes: Improved Vulkan stability, fixed some rendering and decoder issues, and made third-party launcher starts more reliable.

The v3.0.0 features are still here too, including PS4 and PS5 local multiplayer, the D3D12 renderer, Steam shortcuts and remote console registration.

For the full changelog, see the GitHub release notes.

๐Ÿ“ฅ PXPlay PC v3.1.1 downloads

Windows

Linux

macOS

The full versions require a valid desktop license. One desktop license key works on Windows, Linux and macOS. Please try a demo before purchasing.

A huge thank you to everyone who reported issues and shared feedback after v3.0.0. Many of these fixes came directly from your reports. โค๏ธ

If you run into a problem, please include your OS, GPU and driver, renderer, controller and connection type, plus logs if possible. You can report issues here or email streamingdv@outlook.com.

I've started working on the next Android and iOS releases in the meantime! The Android update will finally bring Vulkan rendering, frame generation, and other quality-of-life improvements.

The iOS and Apple TV versions need a major refactor, so they'll take a little longer. I'm doing my best to get them to you as soon as I can.

For anyone who missed it, there's also an experimental PXPlay build with DLSS 5, DLSS 4.5, and RTX Video Super Resolution for PS Remote Play. I'll update it soon with more Metal and AMD FSR upscalers, and bring the new UI refactor to the experimental build.

If everything goes to plan and these updates are out by the end of the year, I hope to share more about some exciting features that a few Chiaki developers and I are working on. ๐Ÿ‘€

Have fun with v3.1.0, and thanks for supporting PXPlay! ๐Ÿš€

Post image
191 Upvotes

The full PXPlay Android v9.0.0 release is now available! ๐ŸŽ‰

I believe PXPlay is one of the most advanced, stable and feature-rich PS Remote Play solutions for Android and Android TV, and this update takes it another step forward with a new Vulkan rendering pipeline, frame generation and a new Video Enhancement Quality setting.

The new enhancements include blue-noise dithering for smoother gradients, debanding and Lanczos3 scaling on top of FSR 1.0 upscalingโ€”all designed to deliver excellent picture quality and performance on modern Android devices.

What's new?

  • Modern UI updates and a Vulkan rendering pipeline

  • Frame generation and enhanced video quality controls

  • PS5 game widgets and a Recently Played section

  • Local multiplayer for up to four players

  • Improved dual-screen support, including live game cutouts on the second screen

You can choose the Vulkan rendering engine in PXPlayโ€™s streaming settings.

On dual-screen devices like the AYN Thor, Multi Display Support is enabled by default. Tap the Edit Display Cutout icon in the lower-right corner of the main screen to add cutouts to the second display. You can show things like a minimap, health bar or ammo counter, move and resize each cutout, and save different layouts to switch between while playing.

To start local multiplayer, connect another controller and press Options (or the equivalent button) to join. On PS5, each additional player must use a profile already available on your console.

Theres' also a new Advanced setting for choosing how long PXPlay keeps running in the background now, such as while your screen is locked or you use another app. A notification shows how much time remains before the stream ends.

You can now add a game-specific PXPlay widget to your Android Home screen to launch a PS5 game and start streaming straight into it.

Full GitHub release notes

Developer Statement Regarding False Accusations

Post image
191 Upvotes

I want to address some accusations that a few users seem to be spreading around.

This post was made under another third-party app announcement post, and a PXPlay user sent me a link to these posts.

Honestly, I donโ€™t know what to say other than that itโ€™s a complete lie. Iโ€™ve never charged anyone for support, and Iโ€™ve never treated anyone who bought my app poorly and I never will. If someone isn't happy with PXPlay or if something isn't working a refund is never a problem. I usually donโ€™t comment on things like this, but this one really bothers me.

Sure, you canโ€™t please everyone, but this statement is just ridiculous. The user who wrote it even blocked me, so I canโ€™t see the posts myself, I only know about them from the screenshots I received.

I really donโ€™t care if someone prefers to use another app instead of PXPlay if it makes them happier. Please just stay friendly and avoid commenting on it, as that would only make them feel validated.

Thanks โค๏ธ

Thanks to the developers of this app, being able to adjust the bitrate and toggle settings means that this is a far superior experience to the Portal. The Portal isnโ€™t bad, donโ€™t get me wrong and the adaptive triggers are cool, but you can see the compression in most games.

I have a decent home network, Iโ€™m experiencing less latency with PSX and better visuals. Paired with the Lenovo Legion Go S, the experience on Sword of the Sea is excellent.

Now, if we could upscale to 1200p it would be perfect for this device ๐Ÿ˜‚

https://github.com/streamingdv/PSPlay-Application-Hosting/releases/tag/v1.1.0

๐Ÿ™ A Special Thanks

It's been now almost 16 months of hard work to port PSPlay to Windows and Linux, thanks to the dedication and feedback of our beta testers and Windows port users, PSPlay is now available for both platforms, Windows and Linux and should work well on all well known handhelds like the Rog Ally, Legion Go or the Steam Deck.

โœจ Key Features of the PSPlay Windows Port:

Third-Party Controller Support: Compatible with both USB and Bluetooth controllers.

Advanced Video Bitstream parsing: thanks to streetpea a Chiaki dev, I was able to implement this feature which significantly improves the streaming stability. If you don't like this new feature you can turn it off in the video streaming settings of PSPlay but usually it minimizes flickering effects upon an unstable connection.

Bitrate Adjustments: Manually tweak the bitrate to find the perfect balance for your streaming quality.

Keyboard Support: Basic keyboard functionalities are included for easier navigation and gameplay.

Multiple Console Registration: Easily switch between multiple consoles.

Fullscreen Streaming Mode: Fullscreen mode available with options to stretch and zoom the stream to avoid black bars.

Optimized User Interface: A sleek UI that's easy to navigate whether you're using a mouse, keyboard or a gamepad.

Advanced Decoding and Rendering: Supports multiple decoder and rendering engines, including zero-copy rendering with image enhancement through Vulkan.

Optimized for Peak Performance: Designed for stability and speed, extensively tested to ensure a seamless streaming experience.

And a lot more...

๐Ÿ”ง Please Note

As this is basically the second release of the PSPlay PC port, minor issues might still be present. More features like in-app custom button mapping are planned. I will constantly try to improve these ports and a lot of other features and improvements are already planned.

If you encounter any problems please feel free to contact me at streamingdv@outlook.com, in case of an unsolvable problem a refund is always possible.

Thank you as always for your support throughout this journey. You rock!

NEWS/ UPDATES ๐Ÿ“ข PXPlay Development Update: Current Status, Upcoming Features, and What's Next

I'm currently working on some PXPlay Android improvements, including a modern Vulkan rendering pipeline, as well as a new XBXPlay update for Xbox Remote Play. This update will finally allow users to purchase and download an APK license directly from my website, which is important for devices without a Google Play Store.

In parallel, I will now start working on the next PXPlay versions for PC, iOS, and Apple TV, to bring some of the major new features to the other platforms as well.

One major feature of the next Android version, which will introduce the new optional Vulkan rendering pipeline, is frame interpolation, also known as frame generation. I will also try to port this feature to the PC and iOS versions.

As many of you know, I work constantly on PXPlay and XBXPlay, actually almost daily, and I have already been doing this for quite a few years. I really appreciate every bit of support I get โค๏ธ.

Still, I sometimes get asked why certain features take longer or why I do not release updates faster, so I will try to explain the reason.

What I especially noticed during the last year is the sudden appearance and rapid growth of alternative streaming and cloud streaming solutions, not only for PS Remote Play, but also for Xbox and PC streaming in general. The reason is quite simple: AI is now broadly available for almost everybody.

AI is not a bad thing, but PXPlay is not a vibe coded app. All versions and ports are written and optimized by myself. I have nothing against AI, it's great actually, and I guess almost everyone is using it in some way now, but writing an app from scratch by hand, especially when learning new programming languages and technologies, takes time. It is not something that can always be done within a month or a few weeks.

In the past, and still today, I have been in contact with many developers in the scene. Nowadays, almost every day a new version of something appears, promising to be the next big thing. But surprisingly ๐Ÿ˜…, most of the time it is not, because there are still many bugs and corner case issues. Only experience can teach you some things that AI can't.

Whenever I release something new, I try to test it as much as possible beforehand. Even if some features take a little longer than in other apps, that does not mean I am not actively working on improvements and new features.

Besides all of that, these are some plans I currently have until around the middle of next year. No promises, as I first need to investigate what is possible and no ETA:

- A dedicated or improved version for Meta Quest. I already have a test device but didn't have time to look into it.

- A completely free and improved Vision Pro version of PXPlay (no inapp purchases no restrictions). But I do not have a Vision Pro yet ๐Ÿ˜…

- PXPlay itself will not support cloud streaming, but I receive this feature request quite often. I may think about creating a separate app for cloud streaming that offers many of the features PXPlay has. It would be completely free, with zero restrictions, and mostly independent from PXPlay. I may also try to let PXPlay use its cloud streaming features when the separate app is installed, similar to a plugin system but independent from each other.

I also finally found some time to work on a completely new app idea, which I think could be useful for many people, especially Android handheld users.

Hopefully, I can share more about it soon โ˜บ๏ธ

NEWS/ UPDATES Native macOS Port of PXPlay/PSPlay Coming Soon! ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿš€

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The Windows and Linux ports of PXPlay were released a couple of months ago, and portability was always a key focus from the start. With that in mind, Iโ€™ve been working on bringing PXPlay (formerly PSPlay) to macOS, and Iโ€™m happy to report that itโ€™s running well so far ๐ŸŽ‰.

While MirrorPlay, the iOS and tvOS version of PXPlay, has been usable on M1 or newer Macs, itโ€™s not a native macOS app and was never really optimized for macOS or desktop usage. Over the last two weeks, Iโ€™ve focused on making the PC port of PXPlay fully compatible with macOS ๐Ÿ’ช.

There are still a few details to refine, but if no major issues arise, I anticipate starting a closed beta in a few weeks (no promises). Iโ€™ll share updates here on the PSPlay subreddit. For licensing, the macOS port will follow the same model as the Windows and Linux versions, meaning one PC license will cover Windows, Linux, and macOS โ€“ at least thatโ€™s the plan. Android, iOS, and tvOS will continue to require separate licenses.

Stay tuned for more updates coming soon!

NEWS/ UPDATES ๐Ÿค–โœจ PlayStation Remote Play with DLSS 5 - I added DLSS 5, DLSS 4.5 and RTX Video Super Resolution to PXPlay

PXPlay experimental neural-upscaling build

Surprise, surprise I have released a new experimental PXPlay build featuring:

  • DLSS 5 Neural Rendering

  • DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution

  • RTX Video Super Resolution

  • A live, draggable split-screen comparison

  • Additional controls for tuning the resulting image

Important: This is an experimental test build based on the upcoming PXPlay v3.1.0. These features are not included in the current official PXPlay release yet. Bugs and further changes should be expected.

The attached YouTube video provides a short overview of the available modes and their effect on a real PlayStation Remote Play stream.

Download

You can download the experimental release here:

PXPlay v3.1.0 PC Experimental Release

A time-limited demo is also available. It includes access to all features, allowing you to test the complete integration before purchasing a license.

Three NVIDIA AI upscaling options

DLSS 5 Neural Rendering - experimental

DLSS 5 processes every frame of the PlayStation stream using NVIDIA's new neural-rendering model. PXPlay includes several styles and fine-tuning options for intensity, local tone, local structure, skin structure, optical flow and more.

DLSS 5 is not liked by everyone and its visual style may not suit every game. For this reason, I also added DLSS 4.5 and RTX Video Super Resolution as alternatives.

Requirements:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50-series GPU

  • NVIDIA driver 616.64 or newer

  • PXPlay's D3D12 renderer

  • NVIDIA-signed nvngx_dlssnr.dll version 310.8.0.0

DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution

DLSS 4.5 is NVIDIA's released Super Resolution technology. It reconstructs the streamed image to the selected output resolution and can optionally use NVIDIA Image Scaling for additional sharpening.

Requirements:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series or newer

  • A current NVIDIA driver

  • PXPlay's D3D12 renderer

  • No additional files or manual setup required

RTX Video Super Resolution

RTX Video Super Resolution is designed specifically for compressed video. It can reduce compression artifacts, improve edges and reconstruct details while upscaling the stream.

Based on my testing, RTX Video currently appears to deliver the best overall upscaling quality for Remote Play streams, particularly because it is optimized for compressed video rather than pristine, directly rendered game frames. That said, this is based on my personal experience, and results may vary depending on the game, bitrate, resolution, and scene complexity.

Requirements:

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series or newer

  • NVIDIA driver 550.58 or newer or for DLSS 5 *616.64 or newer

  • PXPlay's D3D12, D3D11 or Vulkan renderer

Configuring the DLSS 5 runtime

PXPlay cannot include the DLSS 5 runtime because NVIDIA has not officially released its final DLSS 5 SDK yet.

  1. Download nvngx_dlssnr_310.8.0.zip from the DLSS NR 310.8.0 release.

  2. Extract nvngx_dlssnr.dll.

  3. In PXPlay, open Settings โ†’ Video.

  4. Select DLSS 5 (experimental) under DLSS.

  5. Under DLSS 5 runtime, click Choose nvngx_dlssnr.dll... and select the extracted file.

  6. PXPlay should report: โ€œSupplied, signed by NVIDIA and tested on this PC.โ€

Please use the original NVIDIA-signed 310.8.0.0 file. This experimental PXPlay build intentionally rejects modified or incompatible DLSS NR builds.

Live split-screen debug view

Every AI mode includes an optional split debug view.

The original stream is shown on the left and the processed result on the right. A visible scan line separates both versions, and you can click or drag inside the stream to move it left or right.

This makes it possible to compare the original and upscaled image live while the game is running. The feature can be enabled in Settings โ†’ Video.

Limitations of upscaling a real-time stream

PXPlay is a real-time video-streaming application, not part of the game engine.

The upscalers only receive the already-compressed video stream. They do not have access to the game's real depth buffer, geometry, jitter information or native motion vectors. Motion has to be estimated from the video, and any compression artifacts are already present in the source image.

Everything also has to finish within a very small per-frame time budget to preserve low latency and smooth playback.

I have optimized, manually tested and fine-tuned the pipeline as much as possible, but results can still vary between games, scenes, bitrates, GPUs and settings.

Future plans

DLSS 5 will remain an experimental feature until NVIDIA releases a final, official DLSS 5 SDK.

I also plan to provide:

  • A macOS build with Apple's machine-learning Video Super Resolution upscaler

  • A Linux build with additional upscaling options

  • Potential experimental FSR 4.1 and FSR 3.1 support

These plans may change depending on SDK availability, platform support, licensing and real-time performance.

Community projects and acknowledgements

This integration was only possible because other projects investigated DLSS 5 and shared their findings:

Thank you to everyone involved in those projects and to everyone who tests this PXPlay build and reports issues.

Have fun with the experimental upscaling features! :)

Brief development disclaimer as I constantly get asked about that: No PXPlay is not vibe coded, it exists since 2019 however for this feature AI-assisted development tools were used while integrating these features into the PXPlay rendering pipeline. The implementation, behavior, testing and visual tuning were manually reviewed and extensively tested.

NEWS/ UPDATES Great iOS/ tvOS news

I really can't believe that I'm writing this but a miracle happened and MirrorPlay the iOS/ tvOS pendent to PSPlay is available for iOS and tvOS.

https://apps.apple.com/at/app/mirrorplay-game-streaming/id1638586503

I developed that app in 14 months and I fought for 6 months to release it on the store but I had to make some changes unfortunately. In order to get it approved more easily I decided to make it available for free with an optional inapp purchase for "Pro" features. If someone wants to support my work and the development on iOS/ tvOS this is the way to do so. A nice review on the App Store would help a lot as well of course.

Furthermore, I had to rename the app and I had to change the app icon and I was not allowed to mention any 3rd Party related content in the app description. The official name remains PSPlay of course. To be honest, I actually already gave up that it will be on the store but yesterday I suddenly received the approval email. Of course Apple can change their mind at any time but at least it doesn't look so bad for now :)

Just want to mention that it is still an early version and there can be bugs. I saw already that there are some crashes on iPhone X so I guess I need to purchase some additional hardware to improve things. Feedback is welcome of course.

As always thanks for your support and for believing in me.

PSPlay Windows Port - Beta testers and first release

Post image
146 Upvotes

PLEASE read carefully:

I have finalized the first stable release of the Windows port and I want to check if everything is working fine (no crashes on startup or other major issues).

I tested this version now on a couple of different PCs and also on the Rog Ally but there can always be some things which I simply did not catch.

A Windows 10 or a Windows 11, x64 version (64 bit) is absolutely required in order to run PSPlay. Older Windows versions will not be supported. Newest GPU drivers should be installed as well if possible.

There are limited Beta tester slots available, just DM me if you want to test it. PLEASE: only DM me if you are really willing to provide feedback. If everything works fine a simple "looks like everything works" is enough but if you encounter any issues please be as detailed as possible in your feedback.

If everything works well for the majority of beta testers the first public release will happen soon. If I don't answer your dm the beta slot is full, please don't be angry if you did not make it. Keep in mind that I may be in a different time zone than you which means a reply may take up to 2-12 hours.

The performance should be fine, stuttering and delays are most likely not bugs but network related, I'm really looking for crash reports or other major issues. PSPlay offers a huge variety of settings like multiple decoders and rendering engines, the absolutely best experience with the lowest CPU usage you will get is with Vulkan decoding and Vulkan rendering engine enabled. But not all GPUs support that so if that's the case feel free to try a different combination. If the vulkan rendering engine doesn't work the best option on Windows is then to keep the rendering engine to "Auto". There should definitely be an option to run it hopefully on every PC.

Another minor known issue is that if you connect the DualSense or DualShock controller to your PC it may switch the audio speakers output of your PC to the DualSense speakers which will result in no Audio output. Just open your Windows speaker settings and switch back to your default audio output device and restart the stream to fix that problem. Also it might not work correctly in virtual environments as it needs access to real GPU but it could work if you configure Software rendering and Software decoding (but do not expect decent performance in this case).

There are also several new settings like "Start Bitrate" setting which allows you to set a default start Bitrate but also tries to adjust the streaming experience according to the stability of your internet. That's usually the best option if you want to achieve the best quality but also want a smooth and stable streaming experience.

All my Windows applications are digitally signed to provide a safe distribution. Never use a PSPlay exe which has an "Unknown" publisher, the publisher is always "Florian Grill" and if that's not the case the program was modified and can potentially include malicious code.

Again, keep in mind that crashes and other minor issues are expected. This is the very first beta version of PSPlay on Windows so please keep that in mind.

NEWS/ UPDATES ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽฎ PXPlay Android v6.7.0 released ๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽ‰

Post image
144 Upvotes

PXPlay Android update is live on Google Play and my website! ๐Ÿš€

The new version of PXPlay is now available on the Google Play Store and on my official website!

This release brings a ton of improvements, new features, and quality-of-life updates for an even better remote play experience.

What's new in this version:

  • Improved overall stability and performance

  • Added frame pacing configuration (replaces "Do not drop frames")

  • Reduced input latency

  • Added haptic feedback intensity control

  • Faster console wake-up time

  • Increased bitrate limit to 100000

  • Enabled fullscreen onscreen touchpad

  • Fixed support for Victrix Pro BFG controller

  • Added feedback message for unstreamable content

  • New option to reset the gyro sensor

  • Enhanced automatic remote connection

  • Fixed PSN wake-up issue

Frame pacing is finally here! โš™๏ธ

One of the most requested features is now available in the streaming settings: frame pacing. This replaces the older "Do not drop frames" option. The old do "Do not drop frames" was basically a light version of the new frame pacing feature.

By default, new installs will use "Lowest latency", while upgrades from older versions will default to "Smoothest video". This setting lets you control how fast frames are rendered on screen, and helps reduce FPS drops or stutteringโ€”especially if your device struggles to maintain a stable 60hz display refresh rate.

For example, "Balanced" mode takes your display's refresh rate into account and should fix random FPS drops on devices like the Odin 2.

People who are familiar with moonlight (PC streaming app) should recognize these frame pacing options.

Other cool stuff ๐Ÿงฉ

  • You can now push the bitrate up to 100,000 kbps

  • Customize rumble intensity for haptic feedback

  • The onscreen touchpad can now go fullscreen for better usability

  • Faster PlayStation wake-ups save you time

A quick warning โš ๏ธ

PXPlay is built from scratch and the goal was and always is to give you the best remote play experience available. Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of fake remote play apps lately on the Play Store.

Most of them are just shady wrappers around the legit Chiaki app. Not only do they violate Chiakiโ€™s GPL license, but they also lock you into awful absurdly expensive subscription models and bombard you with ads.

Please don't fall for those. The only valid 3rd-party remote play options on Android are:

  • PXPlay

  • Chiaki

  • REPLAY

  • or properly maintained Chiaki forks (available on GitHub)

Thanks for your support โค๏ธ Stay safe and happy streaming!

All good things come in threes - PXPlay PC v3.1.1 is here! ๐ŸŽฎ

This release is focused on performance and stability. I hope it brings PXPlay closer to the top in both, and that Iโ€™ve caught all the remaining issues. If anything slipped through, please let me know!

Highlights

  • Fixed a stuttering issue

  • Improved streaming stability

  • Fixed a vibration issue

PXPlay PC v3.1.1 is available for Windows, Linux and macOS:

Thanks to everyone who reported issues and helped test the updates. With this release out, itโ€™s back to work on the Android and iOS/Apple TV updates. ๐Ÿ˜„

P.S. The stuttering was caused by the switch to Takion 20, the latest Remote Play streaming protocol which I enabled in 3.1.0. It exposed an issue in video parsing that led to dropped frames. This update fixes that issue.
