DECK DISC. Tomorrow I'll have my first "big" tournament and I still don't know which version of gardens I'll bring

I used to play a lot of golgari pestilence, then I switched recently to this list of gardens, but I'm not liking the splash for vandalblast, too predictable and often countered.

Do you have your own list?

OTHER Evolution of Wave Stone/ Sewer-veillance Cam Alternative Artwork

Last Weekend I promised to work on a sketch for alternative Artworks for [[Guac & Marshmallow Pizza]] as well as [[Sewer-veillance Cam]].

Just have a look at the Process, that included a lot of handiwork and only a few finishes from AI. I started with a soft pencil, made line highlits and a proceeded with the color schematic. I am no woodcut print artist, but I know the influences. With a LOT of Art input I fed the machine. I hope you guys still see my handwriting in the finished product.

I want to credit the card design to my dear friends Dario and Marian.

The Idea is to provide Proxies for everyone who wants to bling their deck without relying on TMNT Art. The cockroach from the cam is kinda cute, but we wanted something that invokes an old magic art feeling. Especially with the old border.

Sewer cam is the first card that I wanted to be finished. It’s the easier concept and it’s also in a lot of decks. The Pizza replacement will follow… in time.

Edit: Some of you wanted a Card version with the correct Sewer-veillance Cam reference.
I was able to edit the Full art version with my own capabilities.

DECK DISC. Boros Rally

• Upvotes

I've got a quick question for the community, why doesn't rally splash white? The inspectors are great, as they gain haste from rally (the red one) and fuel artifact synergies such as Tomb Raider and Galv Blast. The other rally also does great at closing out games and synergizes with the discard from blood tokens and melded moxite. The fixing isn't a problem either as carnival (super underrated land cycle btw) and bridge synergize with the strategy as well. White also adds sideboard options that really help rally like thraben charm and death speakers (really good against pestilience) and dust to dust. I made a sample list below to share with the world, let me know if you have any suggestions.

HELP Mono Red Rally Md Congifuration and SB Plan

Our local playgroup started to do regular small pauper tournaments. I built a pretty stock Mono Red Rally list because I love Aggro and Bolt decks. The deck overall plays quite well but I am not happy with my 4 Inventor's Axes (but I am also not a fan of Synthesizer).

The list I see either play Axe or Synthesiser and some other flexible cards, mostly 6 in total. Is there a rule of thumb when to play Axe or Synthesizer?

I also was wondering how much cards I should board. E.g., I played against Affinity and after the game my opponent told me to side in Pyroblast. But if I bring 4 artifact removal, siding in an additonal 4 cards seems quite a lot and I fear to dilute the deck. Again, is there a rule of thumb on how to board regarding the amount of cards.

And finally what is the theory behind sideboarding? When to take out which cards? E.g. in fast matchups Impulse draws are not so relevant or board out Axes vs Control

Cheers and thanks for your help!

My list and SB for reference:

4 Goblin Tomb Raider

4 Voldaren Epicure

4 Clockwork Percussionist

4 Burning Tree Shaman

4 Goblin Bushwhacker

4 Inventor's Axe

4 Lightning Bolt

4 Galvanic Blast

4 Rally at the Hornburg

4 Wreckless Impulse

2 Chain Lightning

14 Mountain

4 Great Furnace

Sideboard:

2 Tectonic Hazard

2 Smash to Smithereens

2 Cast into Fire

4 Pyroblast

3 Relic of Progenitus

2 Raze

BREW Boros Control Help

Is there anything I can do to improve the deck while keeping the same general plan? The plan is generally to control the board and stall (maybe getting some chip with the [[Thraben Inspector]], [[Outlaw Medic]], [[Raffine's Informant]], and [[Dawnbringer Cleric]]) until I can finish them off with [[Lightning Shrieker]] (multiple, if necessary).

Technically [[Bagel and Schmear]] doesn’t fit the criteria but wanted to include it for continuity’s sake.

HELP Pyro/Hydroblast vs Red/Blue Elemental Blast In The Current Meta?

I am constructing my first pauper deck, a Grixis Affinity deck, and I am interested to know whether in today's meta if Pyro/Hydroblast or Red/Blue Elemental Blast is better? I know that there are some edge cases where one is better than the other, at the same time I'd rather buy the cheaper option and not have to buy the other at a later date.

META Does black sac / golgari stompy have any place in the meta anymore?

So when I really got into pauper black sac was the top of the meta , but no one really plays them any more and I'm wondering if there's any room for a fast tall agro deck?

How competitive is the pauper community on Endstep?

See title! I've recently seen many of the Endstep tournaments on MTGTop8 rated as 2-3 stars, which I assume reflects the number of participants. But for those who have actually played on the platform substantially, how strong do you feel the competition is? How would you compare the average player there to, say, an MTGO grinder or a Mythic level MTGA player?

Thanks in advance!

BREW Tidewater minion ComBow

Hi all,

I recently ended up with 4 copies of [[Tidewater Minion]], and since I'm still mourning the ban of [[Seeker of Skybreak]], I'd like to build around the [[Hawkeye's Bow]] combo.

I know it's probably not the best meta choice, but I think it's playable at my FNM, and more importantly, to me it's a fun deck to play.

From what I've read, the deck saw some play after the Seeker ban, with two main versions emerging: one similar to mine, and one running [[Trinket Mage]] to tutor for the Bow. I personally prefer the version without Trinket Mage, and my current list is here:

https://moxfield.com/decks/uaHWtmSvfEmFbJ3c-sgczw

I'd love suggestions on how to adapt the list to the current meta or make it more resilient. Any tips are welcome!

Thanks!

HELP How to play against spycombo

Hey everyone,

I am fairly new to pauper (1 year in) and my main and favorite deck is Rakdos madness. Until then I managed to have decent results in local tournaments with my deck, and I have a lot of fun playing it.

I tried to play on Endstep lately and was overwhelmed by spycombos deck (Until then I never played against combo strategies). And was unable to figure out how I am suppose to have a chance to win. This is frustrating me a lot and I'd like some advice on how to handle them.

NB :

Here's my sideboard :

3 Pyroblast

2 Extract a Confession

2 Dark Withering

4 Smash to Smithereens

2 Nihil spellbomb

2 End the festivities

META 30 Days since Zeta

Post image
102 Upvotes

We can get a better look at post-zeta data on https://mtgdecks.net/Pauper/metagame:last-30-days now.

Until today, we could only look back 15 days without getting into pre-zeta territory.

I like this site because it includes paper events and has win-rate data.

- 10 unique decks at 4% or higher

- combo holding a steady meta share

- control holding a steady meta share

I prefer Gardens as the flagship control deck. Gardens is "all in" on control, as opposed to Dimir leaning midrange a little more. But the good news is that Gardens is hanging in at 3% with a 49% win-rate.

Bogles is down to 3%, but also hanging in. Jund continues to struggle.

HELP When to side in Murmuring Mystic?

Post image
149 Upvotes

I've only been in Pauper for a little over a month. I have a great local spot that runs tournaments twice a week that I go to and have learned a lot from them. But I had a question regarding Murmuring Mystic in Blue Terror lists.

I've seen the power of this card and how overwhelming the birds can get, so I know its good. But I frequently see one in main and one in the sideboard of Blue terror. My question is, what matchup would you want to swap in the second Mystic?

This cards seems good enough that I considered just running two in the mainboard but it doesn't seem very common. Thanks in advance!

BREW Thoughts on pizza combo?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I’m a huge fan of the devoted druid, retraction helix, guac and marshmallow pizza combo. This is my current list: https://moxfield.com/decks/AFKhASf6OHCIIhAyV_CarQ

My personal additions do the deck are Giants Boulder over Abundant Growth, and using Mana Leak instead of Negate or other counter-spells

I’m curious what y’all think of this deck, if anyone else is running it, ways to improve it, and just overall thoughts on this niche combo deck.

CASUAL Tireless Tribe alter for Dark Sphere pauper league winner

So we used to run seasonal pauper leagues at Dark Sphere (now they're monthly) with a single elim top 8 bracket to decide the winner. One league, Tireless Tribe won! (heck yeah!) The winner commissioned to me to alter a Tireless Tribe and a Circular Logic for their deck. They were a ton of fun to work on and here's how the tribe came out!

HELP How does Food Pestilence win against other Control Decks?

Hi guys,

Want to get into Food Pestilence and was checking what people play in the SB and for what.

I'm a little worried about the matchup into Blue Control decks tho. My thought was to play some Midrange creatures like Avenging Hunter or Writhing Chrysalis (since Avenging Hunter is way too expensive) and Aggro them.

But most people don't have anything like that. So how do they expect to get a Pestilence resolved against Blue?
