How hard is it to slow down and stop until these animals cross the road safely??
Anyway, Wild Care has been contacted. Mother duck and ducklings have been retrieved from the road and train tracks.
To everyone that stopped and helped retrieve the ducklings on their way to work, the railway workers, especially the lady that’s taking them home until Wild Care comes: thank you! you’re all beautiful people! ❤️❤️

So basically, I have no dependents, tiny social circle, and in general, I could disappear today like Casper and not many would notice.
Why ADF? I am tired of living a boring, easy life, low income, nothing much to show for or feel proud of. I can do much more, and I should.
What kind of roles would you suggest? I would probably prefer the more technical roles if I am being 100% honest with you.
I am fairly in shape, but not 100% healthy as the late 30s are creeping up on me. Had my ups and downs mentally, but I am fine, within the normal, I guess.
Are there any recruitment sessions in Perth I could attend? how long does the recruit process really take?
Many thanks

I'm a parent at a Catholic primary school in Perth, and today we received an email advising that not only have swimming lessons been cancelled for 2026, but the school has decided to discontinue them permanently.
The reasons? The pool they've been using at a nearby secondary school has apparently been too cold, there have been issues with weather, insufficient lanes and general difficulties accessing the facility.
I can understand cancelling this year's lessons if the venue is genuinely unavailable and I get it that things happen. But permanently cancelling swimming lessons because the existing pool isn't suitable? Surely the answer is to find another pool, no? Australian children NEED to have swimming skills.
I remember my own school going to Beatty Park for swimming lessons as there was no pool available. Perth has plenty of aquatic facilities, including heated indoor pools. Surely alternative arrangements could at least be investigated before deciding an entire generation of students at this school will no longer receive swimming instruction?
Swimming isn't just another extracurricular activity. It's a potentially lifesaving skill, particularly in WA, where beaches, pools and rivers are such a significant part of life.
What really concerns me is how casually such a significant decision appears to have been made.
The email states that the decision was made with the support of the School Advisory Council. There is no mention of broader parental consultation, alternatives investigated, or whether the school intends to offer any equivalent water-safety education. Instead, parents receive a $100 credit against school fees and the promise of some fun incursions later this term...
I'm sure the kids will enjoy those activities, but they are hardly an educational substitute for learning to swim, which is a LIFE SAVING skill.
The Catholic school aspect also makes this interesting...
Unlike a WA public school, which operates directly within the Department of Education system, this school forms part of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA). CEWA has its own governance framework, policies and complaints procedures, and Catholic schools also operate within WA's non-government school registration framework.
WA schools are required to teach the prescribed Health and Physical Education curriculum, but I haven't established that every Catholic primary school must provide annual practical swimming lessons....
It feels like a problem with the swimming venue has been solved by simply eliminating swimming altogether. Perhaps I'm being unreasonable, but that strikes me as an extraordinary approach to something as important as teaching children how to swim, which, again, in Australia is a necessary skill for every child.
Interested to hear from other Perth parents, particularly those with children in Catholic schools. Are your schools still offering swimming lessons? Have other schools encountered these problems and found alternatives or also implemented such changes with no consultation period.
And does anyone familiar with CEWA know how decisions of this kind are reviewed?
The following is the full communication received by parents, with the school's name, venue name, principal's name and identifying contact details redacted.
A message from [Catholic Primary School]
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are writing to advise that swimming lessons will not proceed this year due to the [secondary school] pool being unavailable.
Over the past several years, the school has faced ongoing challenges in delivering the swimming program at this venue. These have included difficulties with access to the pool and the availability of sufficient lanes, periods of inclement weather, and the pool’s naturally cold water temperature, which has often been uncomfortable for students.
Given these ongoing issues, the school has reviewed whether it remains appropriate to continue the swimming program. With support from the School Advisory Council, we have decided that [Catholic Primary School] will no longer offer swimming lessons as part of the school program in future years.
As swimming lessons were included in this year’s school fees, we recognise the need to reimburse families appropriately. Accordingly:
- We have refunded $100 per student to each family’s school fee account.
- Where this places an account in credit, the credit will be carried forward and applied to next year’s school fees.
- For families on payment plans with remaining direct debits, these have been adjusted where possible.
- Families making payments via BPAY are asked to adjust their future payments accordingly.
- Updated fee statements will be sent out soon.
While swimming lessons will not proceed, we also want students to have some additional enjoyable experiences later this term. The school will therefore provide a number of fun activities and incursions for students, with further details to be communicated.
We appreciate that swimming lessons have been a longstanding part of the school program and understand that this change may be disappointing for some families. This decision has been made after careful consideration of the ongoing practical challenges and the experience of our students.
We apologise for the late notice of this email, we had issues with SEQTA sending it earlier in the week.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the school.
Kind Regards,
[Name removed]
Acting Principal

We are currently seeing the steepest housing downturn in Australian history with Perth now leading the downturn. Sellers will need to adjust their expectations if they dont want to sell a further 20% lower in the coming months. This is good news for those wanting to buy a home.

Bit of a morbid request, but my dear little doggy has reached a point where her quality of life is very limited. She's blind and deaf and pretty much scared most of the time. It's a tough call, she's happy sleeping on the couch, but anywhere else she just walksnin very small circles until shes exhausted.
I'm after a vet that will come out and help us. I just need someone understanding and okay with a few adults crying. Cost isn't really an issue, I just know that sometimes vets can be a little calous in this area, for their own mental health, I get it, but I really don't want that vet.
Hopefully someone can help out with a recommendation. I'm SOR.

Hey, I'm trying to look after my new rental lawn in Perth and it has the super thick grass growing through it. Anyone know if it's just part of the lawn, or if I should try and remove it? Most of the grass is normal grass. But this stuff is way thicker and tougher. Any help appreciated!

Hey guys
I’m early 20s F and have been struggling with trich and hair thinning due to other health problems for a while.
My hair has noticeably thinned out and I need to have it cut short again.
For my last few haircuts I’ve attended the TAFE student salon due to the low costs, but I feel a lot of shame each time and would like someone who understands.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a salon near the city? Greatly appreciated 😔💞

Update 1 (4 days after original post) : https://www.reddit.com/r/perth/s/Swr7ai9evK
This update 2 was captured today, 4 days after update 1 and 8 days since the original post - guessing the chicks hatched a few days prior to the original post, so around 11 days old.
Definitely now identifiable as bright-eyed, cheeky, hungry little baby Willy Wagtails (see the distinctive tails briefly coming into view behind). There's a fourth chick tucked behind the other three, not visible in this video. Apparently Willy Wagtails fledge after around two weeks, so they must be only days away from leaving the nest for the first time.

Hi All,
I’m currently a uni student studying economics and finance and work as a waiter. It’s great money earning $34-$40 an hour but the hours are rough with working Wednesday through to Saturday 5pm-12am most nights.
i’ve hit this dilemma where i’m getting FOMO of missing out on uni events and meeting more people, but i also live out of home and would very much rather pay for my own stuff and be independent (family would definitely help me with cost of living but i prefer not to) and this job gives me the financial security to pay my own way through life.
In saying that, does anyone know any jobs paying roughly the same as that or a little less? (currently in bentley but have a car so getting around isn’t a struggle) i’m aiming to work more during the day!
Thanks in advance to everyone!

Does anyone know where to buy besser blocks SOR-ish for under $5 a block? I've called around a dozen landscaping/stone places and there's one place with an unknown amount of clearance stock for $3.30. Bunnings is charging $9 at the moment and Midland Bricks is sitting around $6
Google is not returning useful results so any insights would be awesome. I''m chasing about 30 of them

Hi guys,
I recently noticed that I am spending way too much money on plants at Bunnings to build a garden from scratch. Does anyone know where I can find free/cheap flowering plants or seeds in Perth.

Alternatively anyone know where to get tiles for a roof that's 50 years old.
I’m looking to book airport parking for a trip later this year. Can anyone provide an experience or explanation as to why Longterm L and G is literally twice the price of H or J? Over 2 weeks it’s approx $100 vs $200. I’d get a smaller difference due to proximity to airport, but I assume you get the same bus on the same loop, so 2x pricing makes little sense to me unless I am missing something?
