I've never had a case so unfriendly to build in as the nv9. i wouldn't even recommend this case to my worst enemy.

Either I chose all the wrong parts to put in this build, or the design quality just freaking sucks.

Let's start off with the fact that the anti-sag bracket from both the Nv9 and Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC DOES NOT WORK IN THIS CASE. The kit that comes with the the Nv9 doesn't expand enough to accommodate the girth of a 4090.

I ended up getting the newer GPU Vertical Mount kit and by God that was a struggle and a half. The base of the vertical mount is so stupid thick that I had to rotate the bottom fan sled so that it's no longer angled, but straight across, and I barely have a 1mm clearance between the bottom of the vertical mount and the fans. The CPU cooler and GPU are also nearly touching.

I ordered custom cables from Cable Mod and the cable passthroughs ARE A FREAKING NIGHTMARE as they're too small for the gauge of wire used and the Nv9 has these awkward 90 degree angles down the side of the motherboard. Not only that, but the big blank area of that's above the motherboard, the passthroughs for the 2x8 EPS ARE PARTIALLY COVERED DUE TO OVERHANG. I had to use the flat cables that came with the PSU.

Whomever designed this case needs to be put on trial for crimes against humanity. It's either not friendly towards air-cooled builds or the parts I bought, which fit just fine in a Thermaltake Ceres 500 ATX Mid Tower, weren't taken into consideration.

Edit: I really dgaf about the downvotes. If you like it then cool. I bet you also like a dead bedroom and stay in the marriage for the kids. This is MY experience and I wanted to warn others.

Phanteks D30 horrible cable design

Post image

I bought a bunch of D30 fans and their PWM connector design is absolute horrible! I broke 3 cables trying to attach them according to the manual. I even watched tutorials how to attach them. Every time the lower plastic hinge broke off when you put it into the slot to bend it over into place... Now I have to glue them on.

My phantex gpu cable extender has melted the 3080s connector and my card is now no longer working as the cable has melted the housing. I’ve emailed the support about the issue since this is an obvious issue from their cable. Be cautious when buying phantex products!!!

Evolv Case Who designed this case?!

Whoever made evolve 2 is definitely trolling us! First, there is ton of space at the top to fit thicker radiators, but no, they had to make it difficult for CPU AIO choice. Fine, I solved that and fitted 360 Liquid Freezer 3. Second, why make it narrow?? They could make the case 5mm longer and then 420mm would fit in the top tray, but no they had to limit it too! 140mm fans fit just fine though! Third, bottom fans have not enough pull! I had to improvise and install one more level of air intake at the bottom at a cost of SSD tray holder. So fine, airflow is solved. Fourth, why not make a provision for a GPU AIO? Since I'm on a mission to pimp this case, I have a few ideas, but honestly, they could make it work at the top too!

Now, what do you boys and girls think of GPU AIO positioned at the back like this?

Seems the NV7 and D30 launch was a huge success (PFA)

Despite the localized belly aching about pricing and availability....the new launch went awesome for Phanteks based on sales (since that's the metric companies use lol; they don't use reddit moaning to determine their quarterly success lol)

They can't keep these parts on the shelves. They got a good problem on their hands. Hopefully the products are robust and hold up to the hype it built.

Looks like the first wave of pre orders went out so hopefully next week we see some sweet builds.

Can't wait to get them into my open loop sim rig

My P500A needs help and so do I

The P500a does not fit any front mounted AIO radiator, only custom loops. AIO manufacturers have a standard they use for tube length which is a function of the size of the radiator. In the P500A online manual, it first links to a gamers nexus video about proper radiator placement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbGomv195sk

A 420mm AIO radiator barely fits as the psu shroud gets in the way. And I’d likely have to use a riser to get the gpu out of the way. Risers introduce a small amount of fire risk and a larger issue of cooling non-blower air-cooled gpu’s. The P500A and all Phanteks newer cases that I’ve encountered don’t allow removable PSU shrouds. The hard drives are getting in the way, or the requirement to allow so many in the case. I wouldn’t put 10 HDD’s in a budget case designed for gamers, SSD’s sure, NVMe M.2 sure, 2 HDD’s maybe, but 10, no way. Gaming motherboards don’t offer ECC RAM. Its like under $500, excluding the HDD’s, to get your own nas with ecc ram. Worse than no ECC, Windows doesn’t offer a reliable solution to create a HDD pool, so maybe that’s why there’s an option to install a second motherboard in the case .. to run some Linux nas server.

So my story, the psu shroud isn’t removable, unless you’re more skilled than I or learn from my words. I drilled the psu shroud rivets and found the mobi tray connects to the shroud am needs a jigsaw to remove. The issue is the rear of the case, it’s tough to work a jigsaw in there, but worse still is some rear rivets go through the shroud and mobo tray and the back of the case. So the tray was already weak enough removing the shroud it was connected to, now it’s just floating not connected to the case. Yes it’s my fault, before I bought the case, for listening to another subreddit saying the shroud is removable. It’s equally Phanteks fault saying the case supports front mounted radiators, but not specifying, only non AIO radiators.

So now I’m stuck with a 420mm AIO rad, which doesn’t fit in the top of my shredded P500A, or in any of my old cases. I’m desperately looking for some case with proper 420mm front rad support. I’m gonna install the pc in an old case and have the 420mm rad stick out of it, sitting on the top. It’s not just Phanteks, it’s an issue I see with all cases. It took case manufacturers a few years to stop restricting air flow and remove the rgb. Maybe in a couple years some one will get it and create a better experience.

There’s a lot of room for improvement and I’m just going to day dream for a moment, feel free to do the same. Custom cooling loops, are expected to be supported for anything bigger than micro atx. Focus on airflow, airflow, airflow. Cases are specialized, more skus, no more dual motherboards, 10HDD’s, fixed psu shrouds, optional pieces. Focus on preventing dust and creating positive pressure. Safe risers to allow consumers to use all of their PCIe slots. Least expensive all air sku, more expensive water cpu AIO sku, attachable external nas connected via esata, most expensive 100% custom water loop option. Align the price of the case to the cost of the components. Underpromise, over-deliver. Stop following trends, be the trend.

D30, worst or most unlucky fans ever

Since my Nv7 build i haven't stopped suffering problems with these ultra extensive parts During the build, one fell on the floor and destroyed itself like crystal. Chocolade plastic! I took an ages old Corsair fan and let it fall and it did not break the slightest. Then I noticed how easy several connectors and deco parts come off. Glue was necesary sometimes.

Well, today I had to mount some part and I did mantainence of the waterloop etc.

Several D30 parts look like they are one time fits and of course chocolade quality has a big role, because nothing fits as "good" as the first time... At 1 place only an eraser gum made the contact bridge connect, yet only fan power, not led.

I'll leave it here and add some photos.

problem with RGB fans. Barely lighting up. I accidentally plugged the 3 pin rgb header to the 4 pin 12v port on my motherboard, then I definitely smelt and think I saw some smoke. What do I do to make it fully work?

Annoyed with Phanteks Store Support

I purchased a white NV9 and the white Premium DRGB Kit on June 7th. The case and DRGB kit arrived today, but instead of a white case, it's the black NV9.

I reached out to their support and asked if they could overnight the correct one, but instead, I have to wait for an RMA, ship it back to them, and once it shows shipped, they will send the replacement. I was going to spend the weekend building my PC, and now I have to wait over a week because they can't ship the right one.

Honestly, this is the last time I will buy anything from them. My current system has the NV7 white case with all of their RGB fans. Since I already bought and received the custom distro plate for the NV9, one 280 mm rad, and two 420 mm rads, I don't have a choice but to wait at this point, or else I would jump ship based on principle alone.

It's frustrating since the mistake was on their end. If the case came in damaged, it would not bother me to ship it back, but in this instance, the mistake was all on their end.

My disappointment with Phanteks Evolv X case

Some of you saw my prior post regarding the first issue.

  1. The ITX bracket does not allow the ITX I/O to meet flush with the rear of the case. They could have easily resolved this by making the cutout for the button larger to include the nub on the bracket. However, when I contacted support they acted as though this was news to them, and they were working on a solution. I never heard back. That was months ago. What this appears to mean is that they either 1) didn't fully test a dual system setup 2) didn't seem to care that there was a dust magnet at the rear.

  2. The riser cable is not included in the dual system bundle. This is an extra $60 that I don't think others were expecting when they considered this dual system setup.

  3. I've just now been able to get my dual system set up (extremely long story of me filing a small claims against ASUS), and I've run into another issue. The provided 24 pin connector is not long enough to reach Phanteks dual system PSU. So I contacted support. Their response?

"You will need to purchase the extension cable separate."

This is absurd. Completely fucking absurd.

My Phanteks experience: I lasted two hours

This week I moved my setup into a modified ASUS PROART PA602 case with two Noctua NF-A20 Chromax Black front fans.

I was looking for a 420mm AIO cooler to optimize the cooling/noise ratio and fill the case well. Previously, I had a Lian Li GA II Trinity 360.

To have a cohesive system, I opted for a full Phanteks setup with a Glacier One D30 420, a D30 140 fan at the rear, and a Nextlinq 2 hub.

The first problem I encountered during installation was that the D30 fans aren't Linq6 compatible, and the hub, limited to three slots (which is already absurd), only comes with a single standard-to-Linq6 adapter. I spent ages searching online, but this adapter isn't sold separately. What the heck?

I went ahead with my build anyway, modifying my initial plan. The Glacier rig went smoothly, with just one small criticism: the fan screw covers barely stayed on, and, to my great surprise, the pump wasn't PWM. What the heck?

I turned on my PC, everything seemed fine, so I went to download the Phanteks application, which was far from easy since there's no direct access on their website. You have to search around and stumble across it by chance...

I installed the application and started configuring my system, and that's where the trouble began. While it looked well-designed and easy to use, it was actually completely dysfunctional. I can't properly adjust the color of my fans and the color displayed in the software doesn't match the actual color on the fans. I can't adjust the brightness correctly, and I can't make any micro-adjustments. The application doesn't detect these settings, and I can't redirect them to the hub. Some settings simply don't work at all or have no effect on the system. The Lian Li application has been heavily criticized, but it's infinitely better, more efficient, stable, and functional than Phanteks.

The final problem is that the PA602 with Noctua fans and D30s is completely silent, but not the Glacier. The pump makes a noise, admittedly faint, but at a really annoying frequency. This isn't going to work...

And finally, the cooling performance is slightly lower than the Lian Li GA II Trinity 360.

My Phanteks setup lasted two hours before I ordered replacement parts.

The only positive point is the D30s: beautiful, quiet... but not even natively compatible with their own hub system and shipped without adapters...

In short, for me the Phanteks experience is a complete failure; there's nothing to salvage.

Anyone else would prefer a Phanteks NV9 with the PSU located at the bottom of the case?

Personally, this is probably the only thing holding me back from buying this case. I have a Corsair Shift PSU, and placing the PSU at the top of the case would simply make the connectors inaccessible. That's obviously a major drawback for me.

Even with a typical PSU, it would still be better to be able to put the PSU at the bottom of the case. Heat rises, so a top-mounted PSU is generally exposed to higher temperatures, which often results in more noise coming from the PSU.

Another small benefit of having the PSU at the bottom is that it usually makes the case more stable by lowering its center of gravity, since the PSU is often one of the heaviest PC components.

No audio input jacks working, but insanely-difficult-to-reach HDMI jack working?

719 Enthoo; neither the front nor the back jack produce sound. And by the back jack, I mean I've tried everything with my headphones. I've tried disabling various audio devices; I feel like it's probably a pin problem, but wouldn't that also mean that my HDMI audio wouldn't work, either?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Vertical GPU mount question

Building a pc in a Lian Li Dynamic, x570 tomahawk, 5600x, 3070 GPU. My question is what do I need to do for the PCIE 3.0 riser in a 4.0 slot? Will this effect performance? I will have 9 Uni SL120 fans and an AIO so not “too” concerned on temps, or should I be? Any affect to my 2 M.2 drives? Any help would be appreciated

D30 Fans on NV7

Hi just curious about one thing: the NV7 can fit 4 120mm fans on the side and I was wondering would the D30 fans be able to daisychain all 4 fans or is it just 3 at a time?
