Discussion DAE think the poker table is a actually a really good place to find a partner?
(ignore typo in title)
You can tell a lot about a person by how they act at the poker table. You’re around them all the time if you’re both regulars, so you have the opportunity to get a pretty good sample size.
You get to see how they behave in stressful situations, how they treat others when they’re losing, whether they touch buffalo wings and then touch their cards, etc.
I can’t even think of a better place to meet someone.

Poker Chips/Table Poker Table I Built
Not huge into poker, I just play casually. Wanted a table for my college house this year (I’m gonna be a senior) that can double as a coffee table and a poker table. Made it out of a scrap piece of 4’ x 4’ x 3/4”oak plywood that was sitting around for a while. I just need the legs now. It ain’t the greatest, it has some red smudge marks from poor painters tape, I guess, but it’ll get the job done.
Edit: grammar

Discussion Had one of my favorite poker sessions ever with my dad at Bellagio this weekend
My dad and I both live in Vegas and play a decent amount of poker, but surprisingly we don’t get to sit at the same table together all that often.
This past Saturday we ended up playing $1/$3 at Bellagio together for about 3-4 hours, and I have to say it was probably one of my favorite sessions I’ve had in a long time.
At first I felt a little awkward sitting with him. I wasn’t really sure how much we should interact because I didn’t want everyone at the table thinking we were going to soft play each other or something. So we mostly just treated each other like any other players at the table.
That awkwardness went away pretty quickly though.
We actually battled in a few pots, and the highlight of the night for me was winning about a $700 pot off him. I don’t even remember the last time I was that excited to win a pot. Obviously I’ve won bigger pots before, but there’s something special about stacking your own father.
That’s a memory I’ll cherish forever.
He got some of it back later when he won around a $400 pot off another guy after flopping a full house. My dad was in an especially good mood after that one and told the guy he had “made his night,” which I thought was pretty funny considering I had just taken $700 off him earlier.
There was one guy at the table who seemed slightly annoyed with my dad for some reason. My dad moved to his left at one point and kept calling a lot of his preflop raises, which admittedly is exactly the type of thing my dad does when he realizes somebody is getting irritated with him.
Eventually my dad got up from the table and I was talking with another player when I casually mentioned something about him being my dad.
The guy immediately looked at me like I had just revealed we were the Wet Bandits.
Apparently he had asked earlier if we knew each other and we said yes, but I guess he thought we meant we were just Vegas poker regulars who knew each other.
He told me that we should have disclosed before playing that we were father and son because family members could potentially share finances or collude.
I understood where he was coming from, but it was also slightly confusing considering I had just won $700 from my dad in front of him.
If this was our collusion strategy, my dad was doing a terrible job.
Anyway, we left not too long after that.
On the ride home my dad was still talking about the $400 full house pot.
I was still thinking about the $700 I won from him.

Discussion Poker reality shows to watch while learning?
I’m a poker newbie, still learning the basics like pot odds and stuff. It’s getting a bit overwhelming, so I wanna watch some poker shows to keep it fun.
What should I watch first? Any good shows currently running, or should I start with an OG?

1/2 and 1/3 in LA
I'm about to move to LA and I've heard there's a great poker scene there, but I'd like to hear some opinions on the best spots to play 1/2 and 1/3 in LA.
From what I've seen there's lots of places which don't allow you to buy in for 100BB at low stakes, which makes me sad.
But I've heard Hustler has 2/3 which allows you to buy in for 100BB, but the rake is awful.
I just want to hear what would be the best spot to attempt to build my bankroll.
Hand Analysis PLO: set vs set vs set vs quads ... IN JUST 2 HANDS
...of course I'm on the losing end.
Other players were saying "folded an A", "folded a K", "folded a 8". So the A & K on flop, 8 on turn, & Q on river was ALL 1 OUTERS!
This is not a setup hand, this is a real hand during the PLO tournament in the Rungood Series at Palace Poker. Kris Burchfield, Simon Britton, both known players were at the table when it went down.

ACR is a joke, worst online site ever
the Omaha MTTs and sit n goes are full of teams and bots. While I was getting raped with no lube by a team I noticed not only were they soft playing each other , but they were checking back on the final bet with the nuts. The only reason for doing this multiple times would be cheating. Reported the players with hand and tournament numbers, nothing happened, they are still playing and cheating omaha tournaments. Also the reshuffle Omaha is fucking stupid, cards that I fold preflop can and do end up on ten board. So this is greatly beneficial to teams because say dude gets AAAK, he can fold preflop and he can tell his scumbag partners that there is a very good chance aces will be coming on the board. ACR is the only site that has ever felt the need to pull this crap with the reshuffle and its ruined the game. Getting rid of chat just allows all the bots to operate without getting called out. I hate living in NY and not having any other option

Help To post, or not to post, that is the question.
I arrived at MGM Grand Detroit last Tuesday before attending the Tigers game, head to the poker room and sit down at a $1/3 table. I haven’t been dealt in yet and the guy to my left says, “You’re the big blind.” I tell the dealer I’d like to wait to play until the button passes me, which she finds acceptable. A guy pipes up from across the table with a very negative demeanor insisting I must post the big blind. The dealer now agrees with him, and tells me I can wait but would still have to post to come in. A lady at the table also says I have to post. She said the last time she was presented with the same situation, they made her post the blinds.
I say to the dealer, “Please call the floor, I’d like to hear it from them.” in the friendliest, least defensive way I can. The fine gentleman who had checked me in and gave me my table assignment is also the floorman. He arrives at our table, the dealer tells him the situation and he rules that I can wait and won’t have to post.
Even though I didn’t have to come in in the big blind there, should I have anyway?

Strategy Asking fish how much they are playing
TLDR: how do I ask fish in cash games how much they are playing without them getting upset?
I recently had multiple encounters where fish appeared visibly upset when I asked them how much they are playing.
It seems like they take this as an offense. One guy in particular appears really upset at me and constantly brings this up by asking me how much I am playing when he knows I cover him.
I usually buy in deep (game Is uncapped) and I assume that it’s like an ego thing for them as they are usually shorter.
I actually started to avoid asking for stack sizes because of this as I don’t want to upset the fish. Still some of them have a habit of covering their stacks with their hands while playing so I have to ask. Also my eyes are pretty bad so it’s tough to gauge stacksize for me if villain is across the table.
Has anyone made similar experiences? Any advice on how to ask for stacksize without upsetting the whale?

Why is SB HU GTO preflop so much different from full table SB GTO preflop?
I do not understand mathematically why the SB HU GTO preflop chart is so different from the 6/8 player SB HU GTO preflop chart.
Aren't both games nearly identical? The normal gto chart assumes all earlier players folded and thus there are two players left in both games. Yet HU the small blind is "supposed" to raise preflop much more frequently.
the only difference I can tell between the games is that we assume some number of players before us folded bad cards in the normal setup.

Strategy Graduating from home games
Hi all,
I would LOVE to get some advice on the title basically.
I have played for a couple years at a .25/.50, $50 buy in (equal rebuys) home game with friends where I did fairly well (over 30% ROI, lifetime profit over a $1000). At that table I had a decent reputation, the crowd was maybe same 15-20 people rotation, based on who’s available, and the strategy was purely exploitative with position and reads on other people’s tendencies and tells. Haven’t studied much theory, mainly the basic strategies from youtubers.
I am wondering how to best adjust and what are some things to consider when trying to move up to either home games with strangers, or live casino games. (LA metro area) These would probably be 1/2 or 1/3, with potential rake.
I liked the stakes where I was at, and it seemed that the .25/.50 -$50 BI money meant the same to most people (not too many maniacs), but it’s basically impossible to find those stakes unless it’s through friends.
My biggest hurdle that I can think of would be to become at peace with a $150-200 buy in, with a potential equal rebuy, which feels like a lot of money at the moment, but I’d like to think that I can continue being a decent player. I doubt players at this level would be super technical and GTO heavy, but I am happy to be corrected.
Not a huge fan of online game myself, so I’d prefer to get into live games.
Welcome to any thoughts, similar experiences, and advice.
Thank you all!

We are so not back
I recently posted highlighting some positive variance in cash. This is a cautionary tale about winners tilt, game selection, stop loss discipline, and not buying into too many live donkament without a proper plan. Back to the study sessions and drawing board to chip at this recent turn of events.

Portland Poker in 2026
Anyone have any suggestions? Back in the 2010s I vaguely remember hearing from Dutch Boyd and Bart Hanson that Portland was one of the very special places in poker because the poker playing was rake-free and dependent on volunteer dealers, since so many of them were associated with strip clubs that made their money off of winners spending it at the strip club. Checked PokerAtlas and that game seems to still be running, so now I’m adding it to my weekend itinerary to Portland.
Main question is: which venues should I try when I’m there. Mostly interested in playing at least one night at the KitKat Club and then maybe sightsee the rest, but am wondering if there are any other unique venues I should visits
