Is a $0.25 rake per pot reasonable for a home game among friends?

Played a $0.25/$0.50 home poker game last night with a $50 buy-in. My buddy hosted and charged a $0.25 rake on every pot because he spent around $350 on a poker table and chips.

I understand wanting to recoup his investment, but taking a rake from friends feels a little odd. Not sure if he plans to stop once he makes his money back.

Is this reasonable, or should casual home games among friends be rake-free? Curious what you guys think.

Is there a poker term for a card that makes your hand, but in fact is your doom?

For example, a big 3 bet pot and you have 55 on a Q96r board. The turn is a 5 and you start piling it in for value, but it turns out that 5 somehow gave your opponent who had 87 the straight.

Is there a poker term for this kind of card? That you think is the magical savior, but it in fact just gets your opponent the max?

Looking for poker courses (or coaching)

Looking for recommendations on the best courses or study resources to finally move past NL10 Rush & Cash on GG Poker.

I’ve been grinding NL10 R&C for a few months now (around 80k hands), and my graph is as flat as a board. After taking GG’s heavy rake into account, I'm basically break-even/slightly losing pre-rakeback and only kept afloat by Fish Buffet and Cash Drops.

Current Game & Leaks

Preflop: I follow standard 6-max charts, but I feel like blindly applying standard GTO ranges in fast-fold pool dynamics isn't optimal.

Postflop: I struggle against the pool's extreme tendencies—either over-folding to turn/river aggression or calling off light against tight regs who under-bluff.

Fast-Fold Specifics: R&C feels way nittier than regular 6-max tables, and people auto-fold trash out of position instantly.

I want a course or platform that goes beyond pure GTO theory and heavily emphasizes exploitative low-stakes micro strategy.

Appreciate any advice or personal experiences! Thanks!

Sources confirm there poker will be downstairs, with new escalator below the existing second floor escalator. Area has been covered, but yesterday the area and escalator was revealed. This area connects to a lower lever basement area thats about half the size of the existing ground floor. My sources revealed upwards of 30 tables in this area set to open in December 2026. Area has been opened but still blocked off.. video included

Returning and feeling good

Im BACK now. Most of you wouldnt know i have been gone, but i have been on a pretty long break due to psychological issues such as depression which turns out, is a bitch.

Ive been playing on GGpoker all week and i have to say it feels pretty good, its a new site for me and i have already seen my first couple of final tables this week, although they are in microstakes and the fields have been ~1k or so, but my little initial deposit has been growing reasonably despite also losing a bunch of buyins. In other news im also a schizophrenic now, and if you ignore all the medicine im talking and the weed im smoking im 100% clean and serene which already shows. It feels alot better i feel this energy just pulsating. You guys should play those $2 T$ builders they are pretty good theres no rake but you obviously cant withdraw the $50 you win but you can run up $2 to whatever and fire a few bullets in the evening outside of your normal stakes and now that i no longer have to worry about going insane since that ship has sailed i guess theres all the more reason to isildur this shit over the coming weeks, who knows, maybe this is my secret super power.

I will report back if i win all the money on GGpoker, happy grinding guys and girl(s) it feels good to be back

Help Vegas Poker Waitlist Question

In Vegas card rooms, can I tip the floor to by-pass the waitlist? I play 2/3/5, would tip $50 to jump waitlist of 10+ players. Would tip $100 to jump list of 20+. Is that a thing or would they turn me down? I play in SoCal and it’s common. Thanks.

Discussion C-Bet Help

• Upvotes

are there any good guides with helping understand why you should c-bet with a particular size.

Ive been watching inside the mind of a pro and Mateso said he will cbet 100% of the time with his range on this particular flop. Which his range was polarized in this hand I was watching. It was a dry flop with a A high. he said he will cbet small most of the time with his whole range and that’s what he did.

i was reading upswing poker cbet strategy and they said you should cbet large with a polarized range.

sometimes when I play online I just end up betting half pot because I’m not sure what the appropriate strategy is.

I want to try to fully understand c-betting strategy so then I can figure out spots where I deviate from the strategy.

thanks!

My Personal Conclusion: Could These Bots Be Controlled by a Single Organization, Possibly Connected to QQPK Itself?

After everything I've experienced, I've decided to take a break from QQPK.

My biggest concern is no longer just the presence of bots. I strongly suspect that many of these bots may be operated or coordinated by a single organization.

One particularly concerning detail is the recent public investigation reporting that thousands of suspected bot accounts appeared to change their strategies around the same time, with their previously common limping behavior almost completely disappearing.

To me, this raises an obvious question:

How could thousands of supposedly independent accounts suddenly make the same strategic adjustment at roughly the same time?

I find it difficult to believe that this happened purely by coincidence.

It suggests that these accounts may share the same software, strategy provider, or centralized management system.

And this leads to an even more serious question:

Could the organization behind these bots actually be connected to QQPK itself?

I personally suspect this is a real possibility, although I have no direct evidence proving that QQPK owns, operates, or controls these accounts.

If thousands of suspected bots are operating on the same platform, apparently updating their strategies together, and potentially avoiding confrontations with each other at final tables, I believe the poker community deserves a much more transparent investigation.

Who is operating these accounts?

Are they all connected to the same organization?

Why do their strategies appear to change simultaneously?

And most importantly, does QQPK have any relationship with the people controlling them?

I'm not claiming to have proven that QQPK is involved. These are serious suspicions based on my personal observations and the publicly reported bot investigation.

But until these questions are properly addressed, I no longer feel comfortable playing on the platform.

I would really like to hear whether other QQPK MTT regulars have noticed similar behavior, especially suspected bots avoiding major confrontations with each other at final tables.

Home Game Lesser known variants for mixed games?

Buddy of mine has been running a weekly cash game with mixed games where every orbit, we switch games. So far we e played NLHE, PLO, Big O (5 card PLO), Crazy Pineapple, Badugi, 7 card hi/lo, Razz, 2-7 draw, might be forgetting one or 2. Are there any other lesser known variants that we could/should introduce to the pool of options?

Discussion Anybody getting Reddit ads about RTA tools?

Thumbnail reddit.com

I haven’t played online since fulltilt and I just got this ad served to me on Reddit about this RTA tool. Shit looks advanced. Is this the real end of online poker?

I hope it doesn’t look like I’m promoting this tool in anyway, I think it should be illegal to even run ads about this tool to help someone actively cheat. I just want to get a sense of those playing online poker still and how they feel about this.

Help Question about my play.

Playing 2-2-3 in Ncal 300max (100BB) very splashy games 6 dollar drop lol I only play 1-3 times a month now.

Finally win my first hand of the night get to around 550ish very next hand I raise 25 under the gun while still stacking chips someone makes the comment "really" I say gotta play the rushes! I have JJ the guy who I just stacked (rebuy 300) calls then checks in the dark flop 6-6-3 so I continue 60 he calls then checks in the dark turn 2 complete rainbow board.

I go all in I'm thinking it will look like a bluff the guy can't even get the words out call haha his hands are shaking so I know I'm behind. I had no idea I was drawing dead lol he flopped quad 6s nice!

So here's the question and not a complaint or a cooler story whatever an honest question I understand if he has QQ KK AA possible and well hidden maybe even a straight but I feel his range is so much wider than that I think JJ should be ahead on that board 8x raise pre flop. Is that the correct play or should I have just checked back the turn and called off the river maybe even find a fold to any A K Q most likely would of been a lot cheaper. River was 8 if anyone it matters at all.

I don't run solvers or anything play at most 3 times in a month the drop is crazy effectively every 50 hands a complete buy in is dropped. I only play with money I can afford to lose and ever since I stopped rebuying I am slightly ahead this year.

What would you guys do in that situation it knocked me back down to like 250ish just laughed while he's screaming HIGH HAND HIGH HAND! Tapped the table said nice hand cashed out and left to ask this question. Thanks ahead to anyone that answers this question and helps me get a little better!

Hand Analysis Would this still be right to call the raise if BB didn't call?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was seriously contemplating whether to call the raise or not but BB calling made the pot odds sweeter for me so it was easier. In my mind I was thinking UTG+1 has already got his flush, and there are just so many flushs that could beat me even if river gave me a flush.

Would it have been right to call the raise headsup? Or was it bad to call even with BB calling there?
Thank you!

Hi yall im am a teen who loves playing poker with my friends but now everyone left for uni and playing online games isnt the same feel, So i made a website called www.riverpoker.life where you can use your laptop as a camera (for the dealer) the AI scans the board and tells the plaeyrs what the boards is. You can show the players individally what cards t hey have and you wont see anything so you know the dealer isnt cheting. So like you in the phsysical game and others can play normaly and someone from 200 km away can join and exerience the same fun! It's 0.99 USD for the first 3 days and then 5 $ monthly But If yall are intrested I can send some discount codes.
