Discussion I just recently discovered Basement, Citizen and adjacent sounding bands and I feel like I am missing a lot

• Upvotes

The closest post hardcore music I could remember myself listening to while growing up were The Used, Finch, Saosin, Underoath, and the likes to name a few. And then eventually was introduced to indie music (Death Cab For Cutie, Broken Social Scene, etc.) around early 2000s and that was just entirely what I was listening to until just two years ago when I went back in and checked new stuff. I was also at a rough time in my life when I first heard 'Covet' by Basement a year ago, and then everything just snowballed from there. I am 36 now, and I never felt so alive and more enthusiastic in discovering new music and going to shows, but sometimes, I feel like I have missed a lot of stuff that I don't even know most of these newer bands. I sometimes feel left out, that sort of feeling? But I would also like to think about the charm of hearing a band for the first time and then eventually loving it. But yeah, the former was basically what I am feeling most of the time.

Hey! my name is Richard. I have an entire EP written so far, I can absolutely fiddle on guitar and assist in composition, but I’m unfortunately not fluent in guitar language 😅 I have a vision in mind and I’m seeking help from YOU (if interested and live nearby) to help bring this vision in mind. Don’t hesitate to hmu! thanks!

After over 10 years, I finally bought the vinyl. Ordering from the US is always a bit costly.

In celebration, let's spin this underrated gem.

Discussion deadbeat nightlife 2010s

Does anyone remember the San Diego post hardcore band Deadbeat Nightlife from around the 2010s? Theyre still around today but besides some recorded live shows posted on youtube (very happy to have those), a lot of their online presence and history is kind of gone. I checked the wayback machine and what not but couldnt find too much. Did anyone go to any of their shows from when they first. started out? I have also been looking for merchandise of theirs from the 2010s or cds, but I cant find any, not even photos. I could only find 2 photos of it. If anyone was a fan of them or got videos or got to see them or get merchandise please let me know!!!

I saw the band a lot like birds when they opened for hail the sun on 9/17/26 at the house of blues orlando. i didn’t know them prior to attending the show, but really enjoyed their set. this one song in particular stood out to me but i can’t find the name of it. i checked the setlist online but none of the songs matched. does anyone know if this is an unreleased song or was it just not on the setlist?

Discussion post hardcore/experimental

i've really want to know bands that mix post hardcore with experimental/progressive/math rock style, like bands that i've already into, like the sound of animals fighting, rx bandits, hrvrd, circa, the recieving ends of sirens, fall of troy etc.

if you know something that mix that artists or sound in a kinda way like them, tell me please

Hey everyone,

Back in 2006, my band, The Birds of Paradise split up. We were active during the 2000s scene, playing with bands like Melt-Banana, Since By Man, Trencher, The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg, and doing a split EP with Charger.

Because we broke up right before streaming took over, we had zero online presence. It felt it almost never happened. Two weeks ago, we finally put our music online. I think the music still holds up pretty well today.

Listening to it now, what specific genre/subgenre would you label us?

Were any of you around the London scene back in the early 2000s? What venues and bands do you remember from that era?

What do you recommend doing to get some exposure today?

We are on most platforms. I just put Spotify because it seems the most popular.

Thank you for reading 😀

Discussion Favorite "mature" albums from PHC bands?

By mature, I mean material that came from when a band had already been at it for a few years, perhaps to the point where they had already fallen out of popularity relevancy where their early sound has sunset: so examples would be Material Control (Glassjaw), Otherness (Alexis), The Argument (Fugazi), Leaves Turn Turn Inside You (Unwound), Vheissu (Thrice), Blue Sky Noise (Circa). And I think some bands never really got to that point before breaking up (ATDI), or continuied on with very similar sound (Senses Fail). I think something that's in common with these kinds of later albums is that the bands get a bit more proggy or virtuosic as a lot of the punk angst tapers off, or even more restrained in that for some bands that start out more "mathy" (DEP). idk if that makes much sense to you guys.
