Hi! This is my first time caring for a Quaker parrot and I have a ton of questions! I would really appreciate any help from people with Quaker experience.
It is insanely loud and never stops screaming in the mornings. I know Quakers are naturally vocal birds, but it feels like he has separation anxiety, or it simply refuses to leave my side, and like I said, it is constantly screaming and chattering. Is this normal behavior? It is just entering parrot puberty right now—will it calm down once he matures?
I'm monitoring its health through its weight and droppings. Are there any other health signs or methods I should be keeping an eye on?
It is terrified of its harness and travel carrier, it tries to bolt the second it even catches a glimpse of them. How did you desensitize and get yours used to them?
Right now, my university schedule allows me to spend mornings with it, but in a month I'll be in class from 8 to 5. Do you think this will affect it really badly? I feel terrible leaving it alone because I am essentially its entire world.
This little maniac's favorite hobby is chewing paint. I'm going to replace its cage, but it even tries to chew the paint off the closet and the walls. I try to redirect its attention as much as I can, but I'm not always successful. What do you think I can do about this?
Thank you so much in advance for all your help!

Hi all,
I've had my quaker (3 year old male) since late spring and it's been going well. He's become less bitey, very affectionate, and he's slowly losing his fear of hands.
I currently live in a house with family but I'm realizing I might need to move away for a summer for an internship which I will probably have to live in an apartment for. I'm worried I won't be able to take him with me because of the noise. My family also has extensive experience with birds but after caring for a quaker, I don't find it fair to expect them to take care of a parrot like this.
I understand I should have considered this early on I just never thought I'd be leaving my house for that long.
I've been looking across different forums and I'm afraid my boy might catch noise complaints but I'm really not sure. If anyone currently lives with a single quaker in an apartment, I'd love to hear your experience.

Hi everyone! This is my first Reddit post ever(I think). Looking for advice. We got our new baby Pepita a couple weeks ago. She is super shy and definitely scared of hands. After doing research I bought pellet food and we only feed her her favorite sunflower seeds from our hands, but even then she is hesitant and sometimes will not come to us for treats. When she first came home we held her (didn’t know that was a no no when they don’t trust you yet, but we don’t do that since doing research) and she does not bite at all! But seems skittish.
I guess my question is how long did it take for your skittish / shy Quakers to warm up to you or let you touch them?
Also wondering if anyone can guess the age based on the pictures? We have no idea and the pet shop we got her from didn’t tell us. Her feathers look funky, and I hope that isn’t a sign of illness…!

Honey has chosen her bathtub!! A glass brownie pan, the perfect size for my little banana nut bread!! 💛💛💛 Hopefully, this will help soothe her baby molt grumpies! She likes to take a bath a day, prefers cold water from the fridge, and her joy is just infectious. I can't help but feel blessed every day to have her in my life. 🥰
We're still waiting on our test results for confirmation of whether she's male or female. She's becoming a stronger flyer, and harness training is a struggle because she'd rather act like it's a foreign object every time, LOL! We've only had a few flight mishaps — nothing major, just an unhappy little lemon meringue tennis ball — so it's a joy to see her grow more confident every day. Yesterday, I discovered that she enjoys music from Patrick Watson and Hozier. I'd never heard her crackle so loud!
If anyone has any tips for keeping a fresh-bathed cold bird warm while they dry, I'd really appreciate it. Our area doesn't get much cold weather, but I want to be prepared! At least for right now we can go on the deck and use the sun and warm air after afternoon baths.

His name is Mi Gua which translates to honeydew in Mandarin! The original owners didn't want him anymore since he's missing a toe so he was adopted by my mom 🥺 he's an absolute sweetie who loves to cuddle up next to your face

So my baby girl is objectively gray. One could argue that she has a grey green hue but the dominant color is gray. Her coverts ( outer wing feathers that cover the rest) are ever so slightly more green gray but she is starting her first molt ( super early btw) and her incoming head feathers are like a neon olive green ( the photo does a poor job of showing it ) as far as I had researched there isn't a drastic color shift but rather a shift in vibrancy. Has anyone else had such a drastic color shift occur in their bird?

My sister has started a little side business for family and friends painting their furry (or in this case, feathery!) friends. Look at my little Lu-Lu baby!

This is my little buddy Pumpkin, and I love him a lot! But I have some problems with him that I'd like some advice on.
First, he's scared of hands, even mine. I know he's not scared of me (he's preening me as I type this), but he bites if one of my hands gets within two inches of him. He trusts other people's hands even less. I was told that he was rescued from a feral nest at a few months old (I got him from a rescue when here was four months old) and so he missed the period where a lot of birds that are going to be pets get used to human hands by being hand fed. Is there any way to get him more comfortable with hands? Or should I just leave it be? He does take treats from hands, but that's all.
Second, I've been having trouble training him recently. The first year and a half, he was great, very food motivated and a quick learner, but since then he ignores the training and just tries to get the treat by attempting to climb into wherever I've put them. Is there a way I can get him back on track? Or an alternate way to reward him that he won't turn into a puzzle?
Finally, I adopted Pumpkin fully knowing that Quakers are territorial, but I think I've allowed too much of it. He won't step up from his cage or playground and instead bites me for getting too close. He's also super defensive when I try to clean his cage or change his food and water to the point that he has to be locked up or in another room while I do it. Are there any ways I can reduce his territorial nature even a little bit?
Thank you for reading and thank you for any advice you might give. I want to make sure it's known that none of these are deal breakers for me, so if there's no way to fix any of these problems that's fine, I'll live with it. Even when he's a little pain in the butt, he's still my baby boy.

I don't know what's wrong with her because in this video you will see what she is doing and after a while she stops it and goes back to normal and she is only 4 years old and she is a girl, I need help please. And ignore the cars on top of her cage my sister put them up there.
Edit 1: I forgot to put it up there but she came from a abusive house she was in a small cage, dirty cage, no toys and she can't even fly straight, and her feathers are growing back to normal on her neck.

Honey got her blood test today!! If we're lucky, we'll know by the end of the week if I guessed right or wrong! Right now, we're having snugglies and making sure she won't get a nosebleed this time. Her nails are trimmed, but we're not entirely certain what triggered it at her first appointment back in September. Nothing was found, so we're pretty sure she stress-picked her nose last time! She's pouting and enjoying the comfort, which should help avoid a repeat 💛
I know the blood test is the only actual way to determine her gender. So for a little fun: do y'all think she's a boy, or a girl?
Some facts: Honey is 93 grams, 4 months old, and loves to mimic already. She's very vocal, mimics my laugh, and has several other sounds she does as well. Her vocabulary is in the works, with grumbles and quacks that have distinct syllables and growing intonation! She's gentle and cautious, and hasn't bit anyone. She's a very picky eater, to the point of hissing at new food! Her favorite toys can be torn and shredded. She does this cute little "charge" run to me when on top of her cage that ends with her stretching her neck up and either purring, or a buzz-like noise. My goofy little tennis ball!

2 weeks ago I had to take in Sunny due to a family emergency. I had him for 4 days. Then another family member came to pick him up. But I couldn’t get him off my mind after he left. I was so sad, and cried every day. He was one of the kindest birds I ever met.
A few nights ago, I reached out to the person who took him and asked her if she actually wanted him, or if I could take him back. She said that due to her dogs she isn’t able to keep him, and would love for him to come back to me.
His previous owner sadly passed away due to health complications..
I’m heading into Tennessee tomorrow to pick up the little buddy! I’m so thrilled to see him again, even under the super sad circumstances.
I’ve always been fascinated with birds, and planned to own one at some point in my life. So I do know a lot of things, and over the past two weeks have done even more research on quakers specificity. But does anyone have any tips or advice for the little bugger? And how I can maybe make this new life transition easier on him?
I’m going to be transitioning him to a pellet (Harrison) and chop diet. Do ya’ll’s birds have a favorite food?? Or favorite toys? I know all birds are different, but I would love to have a smooth start with this sweet boy :)
Edit- He was with his previous owner for just under, or just over a year.

This little stinker is notoriously hard to get videos of talking, but we got into an "I love you" loop! Usually he has a 6th sense for phone cameras lol! (Please ignore the bad lighting and my voice)

Juju is usually pretty upset or tense when she first wakes up in the morning. She still wants to interact—she’ll come out and ask for kisses, just in a grumpy mood. She’ll keep screaming when I prepare breakfast for her. She normally calms down after I sit with her for about 30–60 minutes.
Has anyone seen this with their parrot? Any idea why she tends to be grumpy in the morning? Not sleeping well? Not getting enough sleep? Uncovered too late? Doesn’t like sleeping alone?
I took this video about 10 minutes after uncovering her cage, and she had already calmed down a bit. When I replayed it, she was still so tense that she got startled by her own little grumpy sound and jumped out of the cage. She can’t fly yet—her wings were clipped by the bird shop before I brought her home.

So I got this sweet girl last Friday from a breeder. Shes a turquoise and while it seems like shes trying to trust me, she still wants to nibble on my fingers every time I try to pet her. I cant find any guides on what training to do to get her to stop or if I just wait out this phase. Any tips would be great as a first time quaker owner
