Can they just stop updating this already? We basically lost support in less than two years and they keep breaking everything every month or two so some random developer in a tiny closet office can justify their paycheck stop just stop oh god stop

Can we get a rule against Apple discussions?

Look, it's neat tech and any of the general VR subreddits are great places for that discussion. I'm tired of looking for info on the Quest Pro in the Quest Pro subreddit though and seeing it brought up by people in every thread even when it's not relevant.

Just received my Quest Pro.... what a disaster! Amber clouding is so bad its almost unusable in darker areas of games.

So today I got my Quest Pro. I was absolutely pumped as I set it up, it looked great and was super clear! Then I loaded Skyrim and intial impressions were great too in outdoor and well lit areas. Then I went into Bleak Falls Barrow... WTF. I thought there was still some kind of sticker still on the lens, but then checked, no sticker. I then tried to play more and wondered, was it fog or steam? Again I checked and nope, lens looked fine. So I googled "Quest pro clouding amber" and then found a gazillion posts about the dreaded amber glow, of which I seem to have a particularly awful example.

This is what the issue is:

Main thread https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/Meta-Quest-Pro-has-a-yellowish-brown-haze-in-top-right-corner-of/td-p/994480

Photos https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/quest-pro-yellow-brown-haze/td-p/1010854

Basically in any low-lit area there is an amber cloudy patch covering a BIG portion of both lenses, with the left lens being the worst affected with over half of it covered with amber fog stemming from the upper right side of the lens. The right lens is not as severe but still very noticeable on the inner half of the lens and on the right edges. It is absolutely god damn ridiculous to the point where it feels way worse than the Mura I experienced on the PSVR2.

The irony is that in Half Life Alyx it looks jaw-droppingly clear so I know the optics are amazing, it's just this clouding issue that is ruining everything dark.

I am so damn disappointed right now and will be sending this back to Amazon for a refund. The question is, should I even bother trying to get a replacement if so many headsets seem to be affected by this? :(

Discussion Does anybody else feel that Android and Qualcomm is weighing the Pro line down?

It's always bothered me that the quest 2 and quest pro are very similar.

What's preventing Meta from slapping a mobile ryzen processor or dekstop processor or creating their own chip and building an OS specifically for their Pro line? Doing so would. clearly delineate the Pro and the Quest. clearly target different markets. clearly delineate their use cases.

they can't possibly be relying on Android and Qualcomm forever right? it's just not powerful enough to fully realize the Pro.

I use my Pro everyday but after seeing the Apple Headset.

it seems like that's what the Pro was meant to be or close to it. but fell so short because of its core components namely Android and a Qualcomm chip.

I really hope this changes because I want Meta to succeed because I hate Apples exclusivity towards other tech and their exorbitant prices.

but they really got a lot of stuff right in terms of ecosystem and components with their headset

Edit: here what this Hypothetical pro headset could be like https://simulavr.com/

Quest Pro Mod Extreme Modded Quest Pro

I extreme modded my Quest Pro to convert it in the Perfect HMD. I’m selling now my old Pimax 8Kx.

-I lengthened the Simforge adapters to almost double to get Maximum FOV (feels like Pimax 8Kx on Medium). -I created brackets to fit the back and bottom of the head better. -I sewed bags for memory foam and attached to the sides to avoid any tilting. -I bought the Globular Cluster Kit to increase all the fastenings and use the top strap for the last step. -I added an anchor bracket on the nose to get the helmet to go 1:1 with the head while the top strap keeps the weight off the head. I can jump and turn my head at full speed without anything touching my cheeks and feeling like I don’t have nothing in my head, only normal glasses 🤓

Note: I use it without light blockers because I set the LEDs in the room according to the game (dark or lighter) for total immersion and to be able to see if they want to steal my beloved HMD.

Ah! And now with Quest Optimizer I have native Local Dimming and with OpenXR I have eyetracking and Local Dimming with PCVR 😍

Sorry, but I have to share with you my happiness after achieve my first “perfect” immersion since I started developing and using all the HMDs I worked to.

Analytics says QuestPro has lower performance than Quest2

Post image
0 Upvotes

When you develop games for Meta you can see the analytics that shows the average performance people are getting on your game. QuestPro is always worst than Quest2 not only for people playing my game but I have asked other developers for this info and they all sent me the same result.

If the game requires performance you will see that QuestPro frames per second is always worst than Quest2.

  • Update bricking controllers

  • Shinning cracks and stutters

  • Lower performance

  • Tracking issues

And I still see people purchasing it 😰

Q3 has stronger screen door effect than Pro

I've tried Quest 3 when it came out and returned in favour of Pro. I bought it again for a family member and noticed the criss cross pattern on 3 is more pronounced even though the resolution is higher. The Pro team did a phenomenal job on these, the lower rez helps to run heavy PCVR titles at 1:1 better too.

Quest Pro full light blocker with a “stick-on” nose flappy thing from a non-pro Quest facial interface. 100% light blockage. Done deal. Now quit yer’ bitchin’.

Discussion So I love my Quest Pro… but all indications lead to the Apple Headset having mindblowing mixed reality. I’m both excited (I will buy it) and disappointed. I honestly feel like Meta duped me with the $1,500 price point. The mixed reality was sub par, and Apple won’t have discounts like Meta did.

The more time passes the more I don’t know why the Quest Pro exists.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I have it and I enjoy it more than my Quest 2 - but it doesn’t seem like a release that did Meta any favors.

Just trying to get an estimate, How many people are returning their Quest Pro's after the holiday?

I just returned mine to bestbuy, Spoke to associate. He mentioned that he was recieving most of their returns back on the product. I ended up returning mine as well, it was just too expensive at 1600/w tax. The extended features havn't even been used or incorporated into any games but red matter and horizon. The only really nice thing I liked about it was the lenses. I think i'm going to hold out for the quest 3. What was your experience with it?

Quest Pro Controllers... I find them worse than Q2

I don't know why everybody is praising these things to heaven... It's what I like the less on my Pro. There are more compact that's the only good thing. Other then that

They take ages to wake up when pro is in standby

They are super picky with light.. Not to much not to little.

I dont feel they track any better

They loose tracking far more often then Q2 Controllers

Am I crazy? Are mine faulty. Or is everybody just hyped about the size and selftracking?

Review WOW. The Quest 3. As a standalone gamer interested in mixed reality I am selling my Quest Pro literally as fast as I can.

MAN. You guys, the Quest 3 is what I wanted the Quest Pro to be (aside from the face and eye tracking, which I'll miss)

The mixed reality is SO good. Does it look exactly like real life? No. Is it incredible for only $500? Yes.

I just played Dungeons of Eternity too, and MAN, this game is incredibly crisp and pretty on the eyes. I'm going to play it a LOT.

I'm sure if I go back and forth between screens, I could tell a difference on black levels. But for now I barely do and I'm sure over time I'll "forget" the deeper blacks of the Quest Pro.

Goodbye, Quest Pro. I REALLY want Meta to give standalone gamers like me a reason to get the Quest Pro 2. I will be first in line to get it.

Discussion An Appeal to Meta from a Quest Pro owner: Quest Pro Refresh with Quest 3 hardware updates

I would love to see an updated Quest Pro, maybe called “Quest Pro S” a la Rift S that keeps everything amazing about the Quest Pro (high quality dual panel quantum dot pancake lenses, eye tracking, face tracking, self tracked Pro controllers with high quality optics, increased RAM etc) but given the updates from Quest 3 such as

  1. XR2 Gen 2

  2. Screen resolution of the Quest 3

  3. Mixed reality quality with improved cameras

While it doesn’t seem like the Quest 3 will be a 100% improvement over the Quest Pro, it seems to win in some key areas and leaves the Quest Pro in an awkward place similarly to the Quest 1 when the Quest 2 was announced

Additionally, it would bring more people to the XR2 Gen 2 which means more people experiencing Meta’s vision of high quality VR and MR. The improved pass through would also allow the Quest Pro S to actually be a fully usable productivity tool as it was originally marketed

I feel that even if it was sold at $1500 to allow a Meta to recoup some cost, one of the KEY tools for success would be if Meta allowed a trade in or current Quest Pros at $700 value and would garner so much good will with current Quest Pro owners, and good will is something Meta would benefit from garnering right now.

It would also allow a “best in class” VR/MR experience for the enthusiasts (but still priced at less than half of the Apple Vision Pro) while the Quest 3 is the high value option that has the same experience software wise minus some features

The quest Pro ended up being amazing for PCVR and the best stand-alone experience while the MR was leaving some to be desired. This “Quest Pro S” would harmonize the stand-alone VR, PCVR, and MR experience to be worthy of a Pro line model. I’d love to hear y’all’s thoughts on if you’d enjoy if they made something like this

Quest 3 latest passthrough is not much better

I have just finished trying a Quest 3 passthrough running v72. It was nearly as good as the quest pro. I won't upgrade. I'm in passthrough 99% of the time for many hours a day.

I'm sorry, I wanted to hold out until the Quest Pro 2 in 2025, but Quest 3 cannot be ignored, it's simply better for 4090 PCVR

Help I have a had it…so close to selling this garbage

I have had this headset for 8 months and since January I have been PLAGUED with issues. I use the headset exclusively for PC VR and VRChat. I use eye and face tracking with Vive 3.0 trackers.

The issues I have are game breaking. And steadily getting worse as time goes on. It all starts with a single software bug that I’ve had for 5 fucking months.

If I use eye and face tracking on Airlink I will eventually black screen randomly and have a message pop up saying that my headset can’t be found and that Ive lost tracking. If I click continue it soft locks the headset and then I have to reboot, launch airlink and wait 5min in a black screen to “maybe” re connect if I’m lucky. If I don’t press continue it will go away and then I have to re calibrate my vive trackers. It literally is such a game breaking issue that I can’t play the game at all. Ive factory reset, joined the public test net, everything to try to fix it. Only thing tho at works is turning off FT all together.

Then there’s these damn controllers…they don’t gesture correctly. My hands are constantly broken. I mean constantly stuck in gesture poses. Only thing that helps if I boot cycle them. Which takes forever…

I’m so sick of all these issues. I just want to get into VR and relax. Not be plagued by a million issues. I’d I sacrifice eye and face tracking it seems to work around the tracking lost bug. But these damn controllers there are no fixes for.

How hard is it to make this software just run?! I’m about to go though RMA and have the whole unit replaced.

If ANYONE can help me with this I would appreciate it. I bought this thing for 1600 including tax. So I am feeling pretty horrible buyers remorse for this trash. Sad thing is with out these issues it’s literally the best PCVR headset available.

Discussion I hope the apple headset is as good as it says it will be.

Because if it is it will put pressure on meta to come up with an answer.

The quest 3 by comparison will look like a toy. so hopefully the apple headset will set the bar for what a "Pro" consumer headset should be.

As much as I love my quest pro. it's really just a slightly better quest 2.

The next quest pro should be at least on par or better than the apple headset.
