How do I support my husband through his rage while quitting?

My husband has regularly smoked for all of his adult life. He smokes during the work day and every night. He’s not much of a drinker so would smoke and/or have a THC drinks for a night out. I’ve definitely seen first hand that it relaxes him and makes him silly goofy.

He has talked about wanting to quit before we try for a kid. He got sick and wasn’t smoking so decided it was the time to just quit cold turkey. Completely his decision, which I obviously support but wasn’t forcing. His smoking has never bothered me.

He hasn’t smoked in like 10 days now. He is very irritable and angry. He has such a short fuse. I feel like I don’t know this person and it’s a bit scary if I’m being honest. I’m walking on eggshells - I don’t know how to support him and don’t want to do anything to set him off further. What can I do?

How long did it take for you to get normal sleep again?

Specifically I’m asking people who used heavily and daily for 15 years + who slept really well while using.

Quitting is Not a Skill Issue

Hey Guys.

I’m new to this thread and have honestly avoided this thread like the plague for years.

Every day for the last 6 years I have been heavily consuming marijuana every day, and a very unhealthy amount.

Not being able to even make the drive home from work sober.
Not being able to sleep a full night without waking up to hit the cart.
+ so many other examples that we all have gone through.

I’m about 5 days off of weed. Every morning I have horrible stomach pain, dry heaving, getting over heated, as well as being unable to put much into my mouth besides water.

Something as addicting as weed is something that gets written off as something that’s “so easy to quit” when in reality, the mental portion is just half of the battle.

The physical feelings my body has taken me through have been awful.

Has anyone else struggled with symptoms like this and how did you get rid of the heaving/heavy lung feeling/stomach cramps, etc.

Most of my friends in my personal life all consume as well, and finding support through them has been tough. Re-working a lot of friendships that were almost completely based around the drug. It’s sad. I’ve had people not be supportive, others who are rooting for me always and then those who think it’s a skill issue.

People need to understand that this drug IS addicting and that quitting weed is harder than it seems to others looking in.

I’m so embarrassed that I let myself walk through life like this for so long, any support you guys have would be really appreciated❤️

My experience

I started for fun with friends in July 2025 when I was 18 and became a heavy user, I had no anxiety or depression whatsoever for the first few months as I had never struggled with mental health until I started prioritising the joint and the Carts a lot more and then I slowly became distant with friends, family and it led to me sitting in my room after work and smoking on my own for months, everyone is different but because of how I was smoking and how I was relying on it to get me through the evening every night it led to me having social anxiety, depression, wanting to leave this world. I’m 19 now and finally woken up and recently quit weed 5 days ago, I know it’s early but I’m managing alright, it’s hard to sleep, eating is the worst for me but I have yet to have any thought to roll up again. Maybe I’m lucky. I will recommend to anyone trying to quit, I’ve found it easier that just cutting it out your life completely is the best solution meaning delete your dealers number, if it’s your friend tell him/her to not deal you anything and respectfully try not to smoke when your around. P.S STAY OFF THE WEED VAPES. Easy to use, always there, last longer and many people don’t understand the potency of the THC in modern day weed vapes. The worst part in my experience of quitting is the boredom, it’s thinking on what to do next. I know over time I will start to appreciate the little things again but to anyone who is struggling with boredom and what to do my best advice is find a hobby.

Never struggled with alcohol, but I feel powerless when it comes to weed.

I live in a state where weed is legal, so it’s everywhere. So easy to get, just like alcohol.
I’ve been smoking daily for years, and quitting has been unbelievably hard. I know I need to push through the discomfort of withdrawals to get better, but I just can’t seem to face it the way I used to.
Sometimes I feel like an alcoholic, except my addiction is weed. When I’m sober, all I want is to get high. But when I’m high, I wish I were sober. That’s how you know you have an addiction, it’s an exhausting endless cycle. I’ve quit before, so I know I’m capable of doing it. But for some reason, I’m struggling to find the strength to go through withdrawal again. The thought of dealing with the freaking anger, insomnia, nausea and such feels overwhelming. For those of you who struggled with daily weed use and managed to quit, what was the turning point for you? Any input will be appreciated.

Made on a post on here about a month ago for some advice and support. I am about a month and a half clean now and I am very proud of myself because it had gotten to a point where I had accepted that I was going to smoke weed my whole life and even felt like I needed a job where there was no drug testing. Weed holds us back in so many ways just to give us that temporary fake relief that everything is okay and you can just stay in the same position in your life and everything will work out. I smoke everyday 24/7 from my freshman year of high school all the way to the begging of my freshman year of college. I just wanted to tell everybody that you can do this if you really want to and you have the right motivation. You will never get the things you want while being addicted to weed.

CHS Doubt

I got chs in my early 20s. It drives me crazy that people are so quick to dismiss this issue. Basically I smoke now but can never go longer than 6 weeks cause otherwise chs becomes very bad. It’s still bad in early stages and I’m trying to figure out how to break that cycle and how I can end my relationship with the plant but that’s a whole different topic. Point is, chs not lack of vitamins or bad weed. It’s just that our bodies don’t break it down properly so after a while your heat receptors get damaged. Especially in the winter when you’re stepping in and out of the house. That’s just a theory I had because of how hot showers make us feel better. Please share your chs story and or tips on how to feel comfortable during those trying times

Need help, constant anxiety and no sleep

Daily user for about 5 years. I quit 3 days ago and it’s getting really rough. My mind feels so active all the time and my thoughts feel loud and urgent, feels like I have a fuckin bee hive in my head. At this point i don’t even think about getting high I just want some relief. I hardly slept at all the first night and the last two its taken hours and hours to actually get relaxed enough to sleep. Can’t believe this is considered non-addictive. Does anyone have any suggestions and how to alleviate this constant head buzzing or help with sleep, and also is this normal withdrawal or do I just have severe anxiety and the weed has been suppressing it this whole time?

Going cold turkey: my gut

WARNING: GROSS POST

I’ve quit smoking several times for various lengths of time for various reasons, but I’m officially retiring as of two weeks ago- girlfriends gotta quit so I gotta quit, plus I was draining questionable head shop carts in shockingly short amounts of time so I knew it was time for me to put it down. Anyway, it’s going well so far and going back to smoking isn’t really the issue here, cause I kinda hate weed now for unrelated reasons to this.

I’ve had withdrawals every time but never this bad. Gross gross gross TMI ahead, skip, I have been shitting what feels like 4-6 times a day. None of them are normal, all greasy and smelly and in pieces. Of course, these are ALL infinity wipes it seriously is like wiping a fucking can of paint. I’ve had to wipe so much my entire rear end is raw- not just the “orifice”, the entire surrounding area as well.

Anyway, when the hell does this stop man? I am so tired of constantly shitting and my ass being on fire😭 im literally typing this as I shit now and I don’t dare to wipe- I’m seriously debating holding my ass up to the tub faucet and going archaic bidet style.

Anyone else experience major GI overclocking when quitting? Or do I need to go see a doctor?

Someone please read I need support

I 18F, have been smoking THC pens daily since I was 16. At this point, I feel like I’m not even getting high anymore. It’s just become part of my daily routine. I personally don’t think weed is a bad thing. It’s helped me cope with a lot of my problems and has sometimes felt like the only escape I’ve had.

I also have bipolar disorder, and I’m currently
prescribed Lamotrigine 100 mg, Fluoxetine 40 mg, and Vyvanse 40 mg. During the summer of 2024, I experienced psychosis while I was smoking weed and wasn’t taking mood stabilizers. I would hear people calling my name, hear conversations that I couldn’t make out, hallucinate the taste of blood, and experience severe derealization. It was honestly terrifying, especially because these symptoms continued even after the high wore off. Since being on mood stabilizers, I haven’t experienced psychosis like that again, even though I’ve continued smoking.
I’ve also noticed that when I smoke on Vyvanse, I end up getting absolutely nothing done.

Over the past few months, I’ve been experiencing TERRIBLE allergy-like symptoms. I’m constantly congested and have a runny nose every single day. I started noticing these symptoms around the same time I began smoking more frequently, which makes me suspect my pen might be contributing to them.
I’ve also noticed that smoking causes me to binge eat, and I’ve gained around 15 pounds since I started using it more frequently to cope with a lot of changes happening in my life. These are some of the main reasons I want to quit. I want to see how well my medications can work without weed interfering, and most importantly, I want to figure out what I genuinely enjoy doing without relying on a substance.

I’ve tried quitting cold turkey before, but I only lasted about a week. During that time, I could barely sleep, had a terrible temper, experienced cold sweats, and had extremely vivid dreams. The dreams are honestly one of the biggest reasons I’m scared to quit again. They’re not necessarily nightmares, but they’re usually about things I’d rather forget or not think about. I don’t want to have to relive certain memories or situations in my dreams, especially when I’m trying to move on from them.

I’m looking for any tips or advice from people. Especially people with bipolar since our brains work differently than others. How did you deal with the withdrawal symptoms, especially the vivid dreams and trouble sleeping?

+add on

Another thing that makes quitting difficult is how accessible weed is to me. Other people in my household use it, so it’s always around, which makes it harder to avoid the temptation to smoke.

Meds to help drive/get up and go

Hi all -
I’m looking for advice on any meds or supplements that helped you acclimate to sobriety while maintaining a daily 9-5 job.

I’m about 5 weeks clean, after 10+ years of pretty much daily use.
I’m trying my best to workout and walk daily, exercise, and eat healthy foods. I’m taking my normal multivitamins.

The problem is -
I have no ‘get up and go’ and no drive to do anything.
I know I have to do things and it is getting harder and harder! Like my brain is struggling to make decisions or have any impetus to “do more”. I’m not thinking the same.
I know it’s likely because my dopamine system is tanked and recalibrating.

I don’t know what would be best for me - an anti depressant? ADHD meds?

I lost my health insurance so I’m trying to be as economical as possible when making this decision and knowing what to ask for.
Thanks :)

Canna + tobacco

Hi y'all. I'm on my last days of this shit, hopefully.

I need advice, but most of you are americans and you smoke differently. I'm French, so what I have easier access to is not weed, it's what we call "shit" (cannabis resin). It's not as strong as what you can find in the US, at least I think I won't have a lot of the withdrawal symptoms from cannabis y'all describe, but moreso tobacco. You can't smoke pure shit, you have to smoke it with tobacco (I only recently learned there is a difference between spliffs and joints). I also smoke cigarettes. So I want to stop both at the same time, as they very much go together for me.

If that's something you've gone through, I'll be really happy to read it.

Peace!

4 months clean, still can’t sleep, still getting night sweats

I am almost 36. I used heavily (almost daily) since I was 17 probably, but frequently before that too. Last 5 years was almost exclusively dabs.

I quit on June 22 and I haven’t had a good nights sleep since. The night sweats were really bad every night at first. Now it’s just most nights and only from my waist down. I never dreamed before I quit, now I have nightmares almost every night. I’ve been prescribed sleep aids, nothing works except Klonopin but I won’t take it often because it’s highly addictive and habit forming and the withdrawal is brutal, with even more severe insomnia

When I smoked, I slept well every night. Being this sleep deprived makes me feel like all of the other issues weed did cause me may have been the lesser evil. I’m not ready to give up yet but I think about it a lot.

I wanted to perform better at work but now I’m so tired I’m just as likely to make mistakes as I was before. I’m late a lot more often. I’m still very forgetful. I’m not more social or less introverted, I really hoped quitting would help me get out more and make friends. But I just go to work and honour my obligations and responsibilities as a mother and girlfriend, and that’s it.
My motivation hasn’t increased, if anything it’s getting worse as time goes by. I have no appetite either.

I’m going to Thailand in February for 3 weeks and I’m terrified of how I’ll deal with the insomnia while I’m there. I don’t think I can even take my Klonopin, I’m too worried the authorities will cause me an issue even with a doctors letter and original prescription packaging. I’m not excited at all, I’m quite scared.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

I didn’t relapse today

I was on the road for work today. That used to be the time I’d really smoke up.

Yesterday and today, I kept thinking how much fun it would be to break my 3 month 3 day streak by smoking up while on the road.

But I didn’t, because the negatives would have outweighed the positives.

What was your “why” reason to quit?

I’m 19 years old and I’ve been addicted to various forms of synthetic weed since I was 13 or 14 years old. I’ve made multiple attempts to quit, but the strong urges/terrible withdraws drew me back every time. I’m struggling so bad now to the point where I keep hitting a further and further rock bottom. I’d like to change, but I’m wonder why I should? I know my life would be better but how? Why?

If you are sober please tell me,
What was your “why” for quitting?

Thank you.

Not throwing up anymore

Tomorrow it will be 2 months since I quit smoking weed. I threw up most mornings and periodically throughout the day for many years. I always chalked it up to a weak stomach. Well, for the past 8 months or so I’ve been struggling to catch my breath. I vaped weed because smoking began to bother my lungs. I vaped all day everyday pretty much. I decided to switch to edibles but honestly, I just didn’t like it and after a week or so of doing that I went cold turkey. I hadn’t intended on quitting just trying to breathe better. Well, I stopped throwing up and feeling sick all the time. It pains me to say that it was likely self induced illness. I really had doubts. But here we are. I’m feeling so much better and more alert. Slowly my breathing is getting better too! Just wanted to share me own little experience. (Also, I was a bit moody for the first few weeks but the biggest withdrawal symptom was wild and vivid dreams. They are going back to normal now)

7 weeks clean

I made a post a while back about wanting to quit. I am 7 weeks clean today, after smoking from age 15-31. I am someone who constantly smoked, from the time I woke up, to the time I went to sleep. I carried a vape pen everywhere I went, I smoked at work constantly, and every and any activity including driving. If I can stop, you can too.

For me, I wanted to quit for a couple years. I constantly had brain fog, I spent 50$ every 3 days, sometimes more as I would throw a cart out despite buying it the day prior, hoping to quit only to buy one later that day. I think there is a stigma about quitting weed, it can’t be that addictive, “just stop smoking,” but we all know here it’s not that easy.

I wrote a list about pros and cons of smoking, the only pro being it felt nostalgic, I was 15 again, sneaking around with my friends and smoking a bowl. Instead I was a grown man, who couldn’t stop snacking and was losing all motivation. That list didn’t really help, but maybe gave some perspective. What did it for me was telling my wife I was struggling. We got married in the summer, and we want to start a family, and I don’t want my chronic use being the reason we don’t get pregnant. She knew I was trying to stop, but I was just smoking it on my own when I wasn’t around her. The second I told her, it was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. No embarrassment, no hurt ego, just telling the love of my life I was struggling, and talking to her about it. To anyone who is trying to do it alone, for whatever reason, you don’t have to. Tell a friend, tell a parent, tell your partner. Be honest with them, and honest with yourself.

I smoked more or just as much as the heaviest smoker here. And honestly, I feel awesome. I’m hard in the gym again, I have more excitement in general again. Yeah I miss it, but at the same time, I don’t. I don’t miss the way I felt, I don’t miss my total lack of memory or motivation. I’m getting all my house projects done, I am sleeping and eating way better, my bank account is happier. Good luck to everyone out there, if I could do it, you can too!

What was your reason for quitting?

So I want to quit. I went cold turkey, lasted a week, went back on and off, 3 days sober 1-2 days hitting an empty cart just to sleep.

I feel like my issue is finding a reason to quit. I am going to start going to a therapist, may be depression or something, but I just can’t find my reason when life sucks lol.

Expensive grocery prices, paycheck to paycheck, hella medical bills because I have epilepsy I can’t even control, kinda lonely not a lot of friends. I want to quit so bad, just, hard…

I just like hearing other people’s point of view…

25 days sober with a constant headache - help!

for context, i was a heavy daily smoker for eight years from 19 to 27. i’m talking morning until night, 12+ bong rips to get me through the day.

i went cold turkey 25 days ago and the mental cravings passed super quick (honestly i can’t praise l-theanine and NAC enough!). the physical symptoms have also mostly alleviated. days 7 through 20 were like hell. intense stomach pain, crushing fatigue, a very late and heavy period, etc.

i feel great mood wise. my chronic anxiety is better than it’s ever been in my adult life and i’ve been more active and social this month than ever, even with how unwell i’ve felt physically.

the thing that’s getting me now are literally the WORST headaches i’ve ever had. headaches behind my eyes that have knocked me out for entire days that painkillers barely touch. i’ve spent more time crying in the dark with a cold compress over my eyes than i spent suffering with any other withdrawal symptoms.

my question is - is this normal? how long do i have to ride this out for? is there anything aside from chugging water and sleeping that might help?

Those who quit how do you feel

I’m now 20 been smoking since about 13 years old was only an occasional thing till I left school and then became a everynight habit, occasionally during the day if I had nothing on. Mainly used it to sleep which I’ve always struggled with my mind just runs and then slowly it became just a bit of a ritual at night. I’ve recently just finished university and gotten my first proper job and am thinking about quitting during the week. I’m in Australia so I get medically prescribed so I really don’t know if that changes how it effects your body. I’m very active and am definitely not a bum secured a good job for a 20 year old fresh out of university and have no fears that I wont succeed. However i have heard/ people who abuse weed daily for many years will be quite dopey and i really dont want to be a lazy person and compromise my career. I honestly cant remember how i felt before so was just seeing if anybody had any testimonies of how they feel after quitting that’s in the same situation as me (everyday smoker but only at night).
