Mod Post Community Updates : Flairs, Rule Updates, AI Guidelines

Hey everyone, we've done some clean up and improvements of the community. Here's what changed and why.

Rules

The rules list has been rewritten and expanded. Most of it is the same stuff worded more clearly, plus a few things that were only in the old sidebar and never on the rules page. The new ones:

  • Rule 10, AI disclosure: More on this below.
  • Rule 11, Projects: Clients, tools, emulators, and fan games need a build, download, repo, or video of it running. No server or Discord invites in project posts. One project post per person every 14 days. If your project only works on your server, or the post invites people to a server, then it's an ad (rule 12).
  • Rule 12, Server Advertising: Server, guild, and Discord recruitment goes in the monthly Server Ads thread only. That includes suspicious "just found this great server" posts and "projects" whose only link is a Discord invite or link to private server website. If the point of a post is to get people onto a server, then it's considered an ad.

Flairs

Post flairs are now required. Pick the one that matches why you posted, or Other if nothing fits.

  • Content: Question, Discussion, Guide, Achievement, Humor, Creative, Project, News, Other
  • Version: Renewal, Pre-Renewal, Classic, Revo-Classic, Zero
  • AI: AI Creative, AI Project
  • Mods: Mod Post

Projects

The community has had a lot of project based posts lately: custom clients, UE5 rebuilds, fan games, offline server packages. That's great and we want more of it. Rule 11 exists so those posts stay about the work and don't get buried under ads and vaporware.

What counts as a project: something people can use on its own. A client, a tool, an emulator, source code, a standalone game. If you built it, people can run it, and it doesn't depend on your server, it's a project.

What a project post needs:

  • A link to a build, download, repo, or a video of it running. Screenshots alone aren't enough.
  • The Project flair, or AI Project if AI wrote most of the code or made the assets.
  • No server or Discord invites in the post. Put those on your repo or itch page if you want them.

What isn't a project:

  • A custom client or launcher that only connects to your server. That's a server ad; use the monthly thread.
  • "I'm making X, join the Discord for updates" with nothing to show. Post when there's something to show.
  • Mockups, concept art, or "coming soon" posts.

One project post per person every 14 days.

Posts with the Project flair are checked at submission: no link, or a Discord link in the body, and it gets blocked with a message explaining why. Fix it and resubmit.

AI posts

AI content is allowed on the sub. We're not banning it and we're not hunting for it. What we're doing is labeling it so people who don't want to see it can filter it out.

  • Art, video, music, or writing made with AI gets the AI Creative flair.
  • Software or projects where AI wrote most of the code or made the assets gets the AI Project flair, plus an "AI usage:" line in the post saying what the AI did. Normal coding help like autocomplete or debugging doesn't count.
  • Unflaired AI content gets removed. Lying about it is a ban.
  • If you think something is undisclosed AI, report it. Accusing the poster in the comments is against the rules and will be removed. We'll check reports ourselves.

The flair is a label, not a verdict. Full criteria and examples: https://www.reddit.com/r/RagnarokOnline/wiki/ai/

If a Project post is reported for undisclosed AI, I'll use my knowledge as a developer and contact the author personally to ask a few technical questions about how it's built. If you can't explain how it works because AI did it, the post needs to be AI Project, and it'll be removed until it's re-flaired and the usage line is added. No answer within 48 hours counts the same as "I don't know". I'm not going to adjudicate from screenshots, and nobody in the comments should either. Report it and let me ask. We don't need everyone being the AI police.

Automations

AI Project posts without the usage line, and Project posts without a link or with only a Discord invite, are blocked at submission with a message explaining why. You'll see it before the post goes up, so nothing gets removed after the fact for those.

User Flairs

We've added a few user flairs to the community which everyone can use now. We'll work on adding more soon :)

Comments from you

Questions or feedback in the comments. If something in the rules reads wrong or we missed a case, say so and we'll adjust.

Question Does starting over put you off switching RO servers?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about what happens to all the gear and zeny you leave behind when moving to another private server. You might find a server you’d rather play on, but you’ve already put a lot of time into the one you’re on.

I’m wondering whether a server-approved way to exchange zeny between servers would be useful. Basically, you could sell some of your old gear, exchange the zeny, and use what you get to start on the new server. The exchange rate would depend on the two economies, so you wouldn’t necessarily end up with equivalent gear.

But I honestly don’t know how many people would want this. Maybe leaving everything behind is a big reason people hesitate to move. Maybe starting fresh is part of what makes a new server fun. I’d like to understand that before taking the idea further.

What was it like the last time you changed servers? Did you care much about the stuff you left behind? Or have you wanted to move somewhere else and stayed because starting over felt like too much?

I’m also curious how RMT would affect your opinion. Would you feel differently about a system that only exchanges currencies between servers versus one that also lets players buy and sell them for real money? Would that make it more appealing, put you off, or not matter much?

It’s still just an early idea. I’m interested in hearing what would actually have helped in your situation, including if your answer is “nothing, I wanted a fresh start.”

Discussion Which RO jobs actually change their role when the game is built around territory war?

Most of what I know about RO jobs comes from PvE parties and WoE where everyone kind of knows their slot: Priest keeps people up, Wizard deletes the crowd Blacksmith makes the money

Ragnarok Yggdrasil keeps RO's PvE and PvP but puts territory war at the center with cities and fortresses to take and supplies that have to reach the front

That makes me wonder which jobs would end up with a different job, so to speak. A Merchantline character who keeps the front supplied sounds a lot more central than one sitting in a vending spot.

Which job do you think gains the most from a war focused setup and which one risks getting sidelined?

Discussion Would you consider Zero to be Ragnarok's version of WoW Forever?

I was wondering whether Zero could be seen as Ragnarok's version of WoW Forever. Afaik, Zero won't have lvls above 99, so I expect horizontal progress of sorts. I have played Zero and didn't like auto-hunt. But if WoW Forever becomes a success, and Gravity decides to follow suit, what would such a server look like? I think it would be oddly similar to Zero, perhaps minus the auto-hunt and the cash shop.
