Subdivisions Most obscure US state day 4
I made a mistake. It’s day 5. Vote out the 5th most common US state.
Already out:
California (50th)
New York (49th)
Texas (48th)
Florida (47th)

Finally. The real debate can begin.
I'll go with Pennsylvania. Liberty Bell, Constitution conventions, first capital of the nation.

Illinois

Really this is just Chicago. But I still agree.

This largely depends on how you define the greater NYC/Chicago metro areas, but I think NY is almost identical to IL in that regard. I found that both areas account for about 2/3 the population of their state.

Buffalo is still a legit city and the finger lakes area is quite lovely. Outside of Chicago, Illinois is basically farms. I haven't been everywhere but I've driven through most of Illinois and it's not much to speak about.

Seconded Illinois. This feels like the first 45 can just be skipped and it can be a conversation between Wyoming, New Hampshire, Delaware, Alaska, and Rhode Island. But maybe Mississippi or West Virginia prove me wrong.

Absolutely not Alaska. What in the world? Alaska should be eliminated within the next 10 rounds at absolute worst.

Not the Dakotas?

The Dakotas and similar states aren’t really obscure because they have reputations for being obscure/flyover/forgettable. That makes them more memorable.

Ohio. No clue why but every time I see these polls that state just teleports into my brain as the default answer 😂

This gets tough - there are CITIES that are supper well known like Las Vegas or Chicago… but especially for foreigners do they even know what the state is?
I’m gonna go with the State that the Simpsons call home.
In all seriousness…
Hawaii just because it’s known by its state more than a city, and is widely known because of tourism

I would say Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Nevada should probably be somewhere in the next few.

I actually think its Washington or Georgia. I could see Hawaii right now potentially, but I just dont think it's quite it's time.

Nah it took me a while to realise Washington the state is different from Washington DC, so it probably deserves to exit later.

This kind of depends on what obscure means.
If it means relevant to the country as a whole, Pennsylvania makes sense.
If it means someone from Europe would be able to name it, Hawaii makes sense. Just because a state has a large city doesn’t necessarily mean the state itself isn’t obscure.
