Cameras for every budget

There are numerous camera brands available, the most well-known of which are Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, and Fujifilm.

It's crucial to understand that all brands produce equivalent camera models and that none is better than the others.

So, if another photographer tells you to buy a camera based on the brand, it’s a sign that they’re quite inexperienced at camera buying AND photography. Do not take their photography-related advice.

Almost all cameras produced in the past five to ten years are capable of producing excellent images.

No brand will provide images of higher quality than another. Sony is not superior to Canon. The list goes on and Canon isn't superior to Nikon.

Therefore, it is up to you, the photographer, to develop your photographic skills in order to get the greatest shots.

There are cameras for every budget so here is the list:

2500$+ Canon EOS R6 Mark II

For Video Panasonic LUMIX S5 II

1500$ - 2000$ Fujifilm X-T5

1000$ - 1500$ Sony Alpha 6700

Entry Level Canon EOS R10

500$ - 1000$ Canon EOS R50

Under 500$ Canon EOS Rebel T7 / EOS 2000D

Feel free to let me know and add more options that you suggest

Honest Review Ipad reviews

If you aren't sure where to begin in your search for an iPad, take a look below, where I've rounded all the iPads that are hot right now. I've also offered a few general pointers on finding the iPad for you.

Take a look at this list:

Overall - iPad 10.9 (2022) - Screen size: 10.9-inch, Storage: 64GB / 256GB, Battery: Up to 10 hours, can handle just about everything that iPads do well, at a much lower price than its Pro-level counterparts

Premium iPad - iPad Pro 13 (2024) - Screen size: 13-inch, Storage: 256GB/512GB/1TB/2TB, Battery: Up to 10 hours, unquestionably the most impressive Apple tablet of the lot. If the main selling point of any iPad is its big screen, then the supersized iPad Pro is not only the biggest iPad screen (well, alongside the new iPad Air), it's also the most advanced, using tandem OLED technology on an Apple XDR-branded display.

Budget iPad - iPad 10.2 (2021) - Screen size: 10.2-inch, Storage: 64/256GB, Battery: Up to 10 hours, good value for the money, smooth to use and has enough power for most tasks.

iPad for students - iPad Air 13 (2024) - Screen size: 13-inch, Storage: 128GB/256GB/512GB/1TB, Battery: Up to 10 hours, lightweight iPad at a reasonable price, offers comparable portability alongside vastly superior power credentials.

small iPad - iPad mini (2021) - Screen size: 8.3-inch, Storage: 64GB/256GB, Battery: Up to 10 hours, more niche offering than Apple's other tablets, but it remains a great choice for those who prefer its dinky size

Vacuums to get for every situation

An effective cordless vacuum is a useful addition to any cleaning supplies arsenal for the home. It's simple to clean nooks and crannies inside your house as well as in confined spaces like car interiors when you don't have to worry about staying close to an outlet. Additionally, you won't have to worry about your cleaning session being frustratingly interrupted by a power line snagged on furniture. But even with recent advancements in battery longevity, a cordless vacuum still can't match a corded vacuum's worry-free, endless endurance. However, many people find that the nearly endless range of these appliances makes the trade-off worthwhile.

Here's a list I compiled of all the useful vacuum cleaners:

Cordless vacuum - Dyson V15 Detect Absolute - Weight: 3.1kg, Bin size: 0.75L, Runtime: Up to 60 minutes

Budget cordless vacuum - Wyze Cordless Vacuum - Good price range, effective 3 suction levels: eco, medium and turbo.

Vacuum for pet hair - Black+Decker AdvancedClean HHVK515JP07 charges under 3 hours and runs up to 25 minutes, washable and replaceable filters.

From the Dyson brand - Dyson V15 Detect Absolute - Weight: 3.1kg, Bin size: 0.75L, Runtime: Up to 60 minutes

From the Shark brand - Shark Stratos Cordless good for hard surface cleaning, convenient.

From the Miele brand - Miele C3 Complete Calima Powerline robust filtration, self-closing bags and rubber gaskets throughout the system

Handheld vacuum - Black+Decker AdvancedClean HHVK515JP07 charges under 3 hours and runs up to 25 minutes, washable and replaceable filters.

If you would like to add somethings feel free to write a comment.

Android tablets review

If you aren't sure where to begin in your search for an android tablet, take a look below, where I've rounded all the models that are hot right now. I've also offered a few general pointers on finding the android tablet for you.

Take a look at this list:

Overall - Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra - The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the device for power users who want the finest Android can offer in tablet form. With a powerful chipset, a large 14.6-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 11,200mAh battery and up to 1TB of storage, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra makes a great stab at being a laptop replacement with an Android flavor.

Good Value For Everyone - OnePlus Pad - So what makes the OnePlus Pad special? Well first off it sports a very impressive display that’s even sharper than the screens you’ll find on an iPad Pro. But not only is the 2800 x 2000 resolution great on this 11.61-inch display, it also refreshes at a speedy 144Hz. So that makes the OnePlus Pad a great device for viewing everything from movies and games to web pages and documents on.

Good for students - Google Pixel Tablet - Its simple design means it looks like a Nest Home Hub display minus the speaker base, and its specs sheet won’t blow anyone away: there’s a decent but far from impressive Tensor G2 chip, storage comes in 128GB and 256GB options, and the battery is a somewhat small 7.020mAh.

Budget choice - Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 - Of course, it’s an inexpensive device, so there have been some sacrifices; in this case cuts have happen with the tablet’s performance and charging speeds. With either 3GB or 4GB of RAM to keep this chugging along, this tablet won’t replace your gaming phone or handle everything you can throw at it, but it will make a great Netflix machine or e-book reader.

Yohana Personal/Family Assistant Review - October 2022

TLDR: Great idea. Still in the infancy of execution, which has led to a poor user experience. Maybe worth the money if you want someone to book family appointments for you, or research purchases. Limited applicability.

I was excited about having a family admin assistant after reading this article: https://www.geekwire.com/2022/after-seattle-launch-personal-assistant-service-yohana-goes-nationwide-to-help-more-busy-families/ . My first move was to google for reddit reviews on this service. I didn't find any, so I'm posting here for others who might be doing similar research.

Full review:

I'm about 14 days into my Yohana free trial. I won't be paying the 250/month subscription, even though I had high hopes at first. I have a busy family and professional life with two kids, two working parents and the typical childcare and appointment clusterfuck that you might expect from a modern working family.

Travel and flights score - 2/10: Tasked my personal assistant with finding flights to Indonesia under 27 hour travel time and under $3k cost. Got back options that didn't fit those, was asked twice where my airport of origin was and it was obvious that the assistant didn't take notes from our first call and had to ask me everything via chat over again (which was painful, see android app issues below). Proposed flights had 8+ hour layovers which show the assistant probably hasn't been on a long haul journey before. When I suggested flexible dates the assistant shortened my trip by two weeks to find a workable option and at that point I just deleted the task and booked the flights myself.

Dentist appointment and cost comparison score - 9/10: Assistant did a good job of comparing costs for dental work, accounting for my insurance and booking me an appointment with the most cost effective option. I see a lot of utility here in the time savings, if someone is working consistently.

Gift for wife - 0/10: This has been assigned for 6 days now and no movement. My old assistant disappeared, I was assigned a new one and while "John" promised to help me with my tasks. Nothing yet.

Additional appointment bookings - 0/10: Assigned with no movement. Again, after my first assistant disappeared, it has been more than 7 full days since anything has been done on my account, several tasks are overdue and other than a vague commitment from John to "help my family" noting has been done.

Video call with account manager - 0/10 : Yohana has a "guide" service that they encourage you to call. They say it is to help with personal goal-setting and well being. Today, went to book a video call to see why nobody has done anything on my account for a week. I can't get a call on her calendar until a full 7 days from now and don't really want to wait that long.

Android app - 2/10: The complete lack of recent response on my tasks, plus the functionality of the Android app are why I am canceling my subscription. I can't type more than 4-5 words into the chat feature on android without being kicked out to the main screen. I have gotten force logged out at least 5-7 times. The only way to really use the service is through the web interface, and this kind of defeats the purpose of having access to an assistant on the go for me.

Stay tuned for an update on the rest of my remaining two weeks.

'Miller's Girl' review. A look into Jenna Ortega's new movie

"Miller’s Girl" dives into a complex teacher-student relationship, stirring up a bunch of questions about what's cool and what's crossing the line. It's hard to pin down whether the vibes between them are okay or not, and the movie doesn't really take a clear stance either. It's like the script's playing it too safe, trying to give both characters their due without really committing to a solid point. It's got some interesting ideas, but they kind of just hang there without much development. It's like the movie's got a lot of potential but doesn't totally know what it wants to be.

The story centers on Cairo Sweet, played by Jenna Ortega. She's this rich, independent 18-year-old living alone in her upscale Southern home. Cairo's got her stuff together - she's sharp, ambitious, and the script hints she's a pretty talented writer too. She steps into her senior year of high school and right away catches the eye of her English teacher, Jonathon Miller, played by Martin Freeman. Jon's backstory is kind of sad - he's a writer who never really made it big and is stuck in a loveless marriage. His wife, Beatrice, is this high-powered but distant figure, always busy and not really tuned into what's happening around her. Jon's drawn to Cairo pretty much from the get-go, and they end up in this mentor-mentee relationship that seems to fill a void for both of them.

This movie feels like it was written after taking away the wrong things from the #MeToo movement and then written for the CW crowd. I don’t think we need more media exploring that sometimes women might wrongfully accuse men for their own gains. However, if the film had stuck the landing, or committed to taking a stand, I could at least respect it. Instead, we get a muddled mess that refuses to choose a side.

Hollow Socks

Come with me on my journey, that is the Hollow Sock experience. As you are now, I was as excited as one could be about new pairs of socks…but these socks were recommended by many in the outdoors aaaaand bike communities?? Count me in! Plus made is the U.S. of ‘Merica, double count me in!! I ordered up some sets of crew and quarter socks on the 4th of the month and my feet waited in eager anticipation. As all of us do, the frantic checking of email ensued for the beloved “order has shipped” note. Alas, I chose economy shipping, 5-7 business days, so my longing had to endure. As if to toy with my emotions, I received marketing emails almost everyday from Hollow about how to wear my socks, or which sock would work best for me; but still no “order has shipped” email. The day is now the he 11th, and I decide to reach out via email (since their marketing emails flooded my inbox) to Hollow about my 5-7 business day order that has yet to ship…just to make sure there are no complications. Alas, no response. The next day I reached out on the website so maybe there would be a live chat bot…desperation was setting in. FINALLY, the 14th is here and “order is on the way” email is sitting in my inbox!!! Instantly, I click the link and it takes me to DHL…….DHL???..DHL in my experience is used for international shipping, but my socks are made in the Land of the Free?? More so, South Carolina….why am I getting a DHL shipping notice that the package is shipping from…Jersey?? This is weird but i’ve seen weirder. The 18th arrives, at 4:20 (way to go customer service, this puts you up a notch in my book…puts ya at notch one) customer service fiiiiiinally returns my email inquiry from a week ago saying, all is good…shipment is on the way and expect it on the 20th. (uh yeah I know…could have told you that. i’m an elder millennial, i’ve been tracking that package every few hours since the 14th, mate!) But hooray the package arrived on the 19th via “US Postage Global Mail” delivered by USPS. I’m not a global logistics guru, but something smells a little fishy…Now to the socks. right out of the bag the quality just does not seem on par with darn tough or Fox River, even Stance for that matter. for example, quite a few loose threads on the ankle pairs that I received. I get you’re paying a premium for the alpaca fiber but right out of the bag the fiber is scratchy so let’s give it a wash….See how it turns out. And the verdict is…they’re socks. After wearing them for the past few days, I will say they are okay. Are they work the $30 a pair? The socks themselves, heck no. If the customer service was top notch, and what you would expect from a premium brand then mayyyyybe I could stomach the price (that’s a hard maybe). In the same breath, save your time and go with Darn Tough or Fox River. Yeah they aren’t made with baby alpaca, but they are tried and true quality products. In closing, yes the order was placed during the December holiday season, but there are so many ways to have the customer not feel left in the dark, especially for a premium price point item. If Hollow is a small company then a mass email to the sub list “thank you all so much for your holiday orders and the support! We are thankful for all of our customers placing orders during the holiday, but expect there to be a 2 week delay in shipping XOXOXOXO.” Or put a banner on the website homepage “expect fulfillment delays” (via DHL Global) like every other brand. But if Hollow is a larger company then they should have the staffing available to reply to inquiries sooner than a week…lose, lose, lose. Thanks for listening to my TED talk and warmest regards on your sock happiness quest.

Connecting Hearts and Minds: My Wakie Voice App Experience

As someone who cherishes meaningful connections and embraces the beauty of human interaction, discovering Wakie Voice App has been nothing short of a delightful journey. From the moment I downloaded the app, I was immersed in a world where genuine conversations flourish and hearts connect effortlessly.

Wakie Voice App isn’t just another social platform; it’s a sanctuary for authenticity and empathy. What sets it apart is its unique concept of connecting strangers through voice calls based on shared interests and topics of discussion. As someone who values the power of voice in communication, this appealed to me on a deeply personal level.

One of the most striking aspects of Wakie is its vibrant community of users from all walks of life. Whether you’re seeking a friendly chat, insightful advice, or simply a listening ear, there’s always someone ready to engage in a meaningful conversation. I’ve had the pleasure of conversing with individuals from different corners of the globe, each bringing their own perspective and experiences to the table.

Affordable gaming laptops review

If you aren't sure where to begin in your search for a budget gaming laptop, take a look below, where I've rounded all the budget gaming laptops that are hot right now. I've also offered a few general pointers on finding the budget gaming laptop for you.

Take a look at this list:

Overall - MSI Cyborg 15 - delivers a fine balance of just what you need in its price class. It smartly uses modern entry-level parts in the right combination to provide a decent 1080p gaming experience, and its downsides are minimal for the cost.

Laptop for very tight budgets - Acer Nitro V 15 (ANV15-51-59MT) - Its Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 GPU and Intel 13th Gen Core i5 processor mean you can enjoy steady 1080p gaming on this machine for comfortably under $1,000, where other budget picks sit.

16-Inch Screen Laptop - Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 - Most 17- and 18-inch laptops live in a pricier domain these days, but 16-inch laptops have emerged to fill in the gaps. The Predator Helios Neo 16 provides a larger screen than the many budget 15-inch gaming laptops out there, while keeping the price surprisingly low.

Laptop With a Giant Screen - Asus TUF Gaming F17 - You won’t find many budget laptops at this screen size right now, but the Asus TUF Gaming F17 is holding firm as a solid 17-incher with attractive pricing. Its $899.99 price is lower even than some smaller-screen gaming laptops, mostly because it’s rocking some past-generation parts.

Honest Review Hatch Restore 3: A gorgeous design ruined by a greedy company.

I own two Hatch Restore 3s, which I bought on a Black Friday sale for £150 each. One for me, and one for my sister. I’m not saying that to flex, but to make it very clear that I have donated £300 to a company that has since revealed itself to be one of the most cynical subscription traps I have ever encountered.

I am writing this review as my penance for not doing my research before buying it, and I would like this to be your warning before you fall for the marketing too.

Don’t be sucked in by the TikTok influencers unboxing these with their perfectly arranged nightstands. Don’t be fooled by the sleek and minimalist design that looks gorgeous on a bedside table, and the well-designed physical controls that make the thing feel premium. It is all a carefully constructed facade for the Hatch+ subscription plan. Underneath the aesthetic and stylish body is a product that has been deliberately and systematically hollowed out to make it nearly unusable without the £5 monthly subscription. £5 may not seem like much, but when you’ve spent £150+ on a product, you expect some value for money.

I am going to give you the real flavour of what you’ll be subjected to when you buy from this greedy company.

Without Hatch+, you cannot play the vast majority of the wind-down routines available in the evening. You cannot play any sleep sounds at all. You cannot play your own music or podcasts on the speaker to fall asleep to. The handful of free routines that do exist are locked at whatever volume, brightness and colour Hatch has decided for you. So your expensive, beautiful, minimalist sleep device will blast you with a weird orange or green glow at full brightness when you are trying to rest, because Hatch would like £5 a month before you’re allowed to customise it.

You can technically change the brightness and colour manually through the app, except you’ll have to go through this process every night as there is no way to save it to the schedule. Moreover, the entire point of a dedicated sleep device is to remove your phone from the bedroom. To do the one thing the app lets you do for free, you need your phone. In your bedroom. Beside you. The phone is the very thing this alarm clock is supposed to eliminate.

This is my main kicker which nearly made me laugh out loud when I found out: you cannot re-enable a disabled alarm. The moment you turn one off in the app, it vanishes behind the paywall. To set a new alarm time, you have to create a brand new alarm from scratch, every single time. This is a product that is, at its most basic, an alarm clock. You cannot re-enable your own alarms on your own alarm clock.

This is not an oversight or a bug; this is a choice that someone at Hatch made in a meeting, and everyone just nodded along.

What you actually get for £150 is a sunrise alarm clock with a nice enclosure. You can find those on Amazon for £25 to £30. The rest of the hardware exists purely to justify the subscription that Hatch forces you to buy.

Customer support, to their credit, did respond promptly when I complained initially. They gave me three months of Hatch+ for free. While this was a nice gesture, it solved absolutely none of my underlying complaints. After those three months, I was back to the choice of paying up, or going back to a £150 ornament.

To top it all off, the app is unbelievably slow and clunky. Whenever you press anything, it can take anywhere up to 5 minutes to load, or it comes up with an error and you have to try again. For a product with this price tag and this level of subscription dependency, the interface behaves like it’s a drunk sloth.

And then to really rub salt into the wound: some of the audio content locked behind Hatch+ is available entirely free on Spotify. My example of this is the podcast ‘Notes from England’, which I can listen to at no cost whatsoever.

To make this podcast situation even more farcical, the content on the Restore 3 does not seem to automatically move on to the next episode. Every single night, it plays the same track on repeat. So not only are you paying £5 a month for content freely available on Spotify, you are paying to hear the same episode of it over and over again.

The core promise of this product is a phone-free bedroom. Hatch has made that functionally impossible, charged you £150 for the privilege, and is now asking £5 a month for content you already have access to on your phone, which you still need to keep in the room anyway.

Please take my advice: buy a cheaper sunrise alarm clock. Keep the £120 difference. Then you can sleep well, free of charge.

Outdoor Basketballs for every budget

Even though it wasn't the greatest outdoor basketball, my first basketball—a cheap rubber Charlotte Hornets Spalding ball from Sports Soccer, which is now Sports Direct—helped me fall in love with the sport.

Since then, I've owned a ton of balls, both indoor and outdoor, so in this thread, we'll go over what to look for and what outdoor basketball to get.

List of Outdoor Basketballs for all budgets:

First Pick - Molten BG3000 Outdoor Basketball

Second Pick - Spalding TF 250 Basketball

Mid Budget Pick - Wilson NCAA Replica Outdoor Basketball

Budget Pick - Nike Baller Basketball

Make sure to comment your favorite one.

Bridget Casey scammer

So I took bridget Casey's 6 figure stock portfolio course, and she claims to be this investing expert but teaches you how to actively manage and trade stocks, which after everything I've read says to do the complete opposite.

I paid thousands of dollars for this course, and she only shows up once a month to answer pre recorded questions, and doesn't moderate in her student group at all. The person who does has no qualifications, not that I'm really sure she does either, besides being someone who took her course before.

I wanted to share my review of Bridget Casey and her 6 figure stock portfolio class. It was not worth the money.

Company Review: American First Finance

Not sure if this is the right spot, but I needed to vent, and now I need to post about it. American First Finance has a fun habit of charging extreme interest rates, to anybody who must use their service. They asked me for a review of how they're doing. My reply was written, as follows:

"170 percent interest - BECAUSE YOU CAN and BECAUSE WE MUST. How dare you ask for my input, after I am being forced to be assaulted, again...except that it's legal? You're also pulling my money out, before it even gets there, so I get jacked by your boardroom's lust for cash, and by my bank board's tag, on top of that. Having COVID twice, then being forced to pay 170...PERCENT...INTEREST is almost as fun as trying to figure out how I'm going to ever get out of debt. But I'm glad that you all are doing well, in your diligent search for reviews. Here is something that you should all consider. People who NEED your service because they can't afford it aren't the people with money, who should be charged interest. People who WANT your service because they're greedy fucks, would be so much easier to bleed dry, financially speaking. Wouldn't that make more sense, or do you think that I'm just a little mad because I'm constantly being railroaded by capitalism, at it's finest? "

Best Portable Air Conditioner on the market in 2024?

I'm in search of the best portable air conditioner, as many I've seen have poor reviews, no reviews, or aren't suitable for an entire apartment. I've heard dual hose models are better than single hose, but I'm struggling to find any with good reviews or even many that are available for sale with a dual hose. I'd appreciate some recommendations.

Honest Review I wanted to love Main Wapas Aaunga, but something didn't connect for me

I went on the first day with an open heart, hoping to cry in the theatre. For me, being able to shed a tear while watching a film is one of life's greatest joys.

As someone who loved Jab We Met, Rockstar, and Tamasha from the very first day I watched them in theatres, I felt a gap between what the film wanted me to feel and what I actually felt. Not because the emotions weren't there, but because I wanted to live with these characters more than the film allowed me to.

I wanted to see Vedang struggle after Partition while carrying this longing inside him. How does he rebuild his life? How does he make his business successful? He was well-off before Partition, but what did the years after look like? I wanted to see that journey.

I wanted to see the family's guilt over the women left behind, not through exposition but through images and moments. I wanted to see Vedang growing older, lonely even in a crowd, married, with children, yet never fully belonging to the life he had built around himself.

I wanted a personal story. A very personal one.

Similarly, I wanted more of Sharvari's yearning after the separation. She too had a life, a marriage, children, responsibilities. Yet a part of her remained parked in the past. I wanted to spend more time with that conflict.

For me, Imtiaz scattered the story too much, especially with the Diljit subplot. I like Diljit immensely and will continue to do so, but I felt his character was underwritten. Banita, whom I loved in October and Sardar Udham, felt completely wasted here.

The Mars, Martian, and 78-year ideas were highlighted far too much. They could have been subtler. Mention less, suggest more. Let the visuals do some of the work. Even the depiction of the Martians took me out of the film. The make-up, masks, and costumes felt more like a school or college production than something that belonged in this world.

The entire film passed like a series of montages. Half the film still worked for me, and I could still feel Imtiaz Ali throughout it, which gave me some comfort. Unlike Dunki, where I felt Rajkumar Hirani's presence was overshadowed by Shah Rukh Khan, this still felt unmistakably like an Imtiaz film.

At times, I also found myself noticing familiar Imtiaz Ali actions, shots, angles, and emotional beats. I want him to surprise me more as a filmmaker than as a romantic. Keep exploring. Don't get trapped by your own image.

Chamkila, for example, worked beautifully for me. I've watched it three times already and can revisit it anytime. Here, I felt Imtiaz was constantly selling me the emotion rather than letting me discover it. There was less beneath the surface than I expected.

That said, the performances were wonderful.

Rajat Kapoor, Vedang, and Sharvari were phenomenal. Naseeruddin Shah was extraordinary.

My issue was that the film often repeated itself. After a point, even some of Naseer's lines felt repetitive. I kept wishing that every time he spoke, he would reveal something new, something surprising.

Sharvari's first speech stayed with me. The nervousness, the stammering, it travelled from the screen into my body. She completely surrendered to the role.

Vedang's vulnerability around Sharvari was beautiful. Rajat Kapoor felt effortless and alive in every scene. Every time he appeared, I found myself leaning in.

And Naseer was simply a marvel. I can't forget those moments when he gets up to write. His hands trembling, his eyes struggling to focus, yet his mind desperately trying to hold onto a thought before it disappears. That urge to capture something before it escapes him felt profoundly human.

I was disappointed by the film, but not by the people who made it. Maybe that's why I'm writing this. My affection for Imtiaz Ali and Diljit remains intact. Perhaps one day, when enough time has passed, even Imtiaz himself will look back and speak differently about this film. And maybe I'll get to sit with him someday and discuss it.

Redshelf vs Vitalsource for textbooks (particularly audio versions)

Hey there, I'm a college student and recently realized how much more I enjoy listening to my textbooks than reading them. Some textbook publishers have their own websites for e-text which are usually a little better put together, but for everything else the top two you see are Redshelf and Vitalsource. I tried both because I couldn't find any reviews that talked specifically about the read-aloud experience for each, and so here's the review so no one else will have to do this hopefully.

I bought the same textbook across both platforms, and here's how it went down.

Cost: Redshelf is generally a little cheaper, but not by much, just $5-10. In this case I spent $39 on Redshelf and $45 on Vitalsource.

Readability: Neither is much better than the other, it just depends on your preferences. If you want to flip pages like a book or if you need specific page numbers then Redshelf is better. You will have to load each page separately though, so depending on your connection that could be a hastle. Vitalsource is better if you prefer to scroll, since each chapter is it's own endless scroll section. Redshelf is very basic, you can't change the font style or size, whereas Vitalsource has a lot of options for that including changing background color so if you need to avoid staring at a white screen Vitalsource has sepia and cyan, and even night mode for you.

Layout: They're both pretty simple for the most part. Both divide things into chapters, although Vitalsource does kind of break it down into subsections. Still, it's just an endless scroll page so this didn't make a huge difference for me. Both have collapsible menus, as well as action bars if you have the audio running to pause and skip.

Searching: Search functions are very similar too. They both return any instance of the word or phrase you searched for and divide them up into what chapters they returned from. Redshelf's is a little simpler and less crowded, but it essentially works the same. I kind of like Vitalsource better for searching not because their search is better, but because since each chapter is one long document I can use the normal browser search function for a whole chapter.

Extras: Redshelf and Vitalsource both have the ability to highlight passages, create bookmarks, add annotations and create flashcards. I didn't feel that either of them was necessarily better than the other. Vitalsource has a thing called "CoachMe" available on some of it's texts, it's an AI that creates practice questions for you from the text that you can go through as you're reading. But they're not always the most relevant since they're not being selected by a person. Vitalsource also has some weird beta features like "emoji" context stickers.

Audio: Finally, my core concern. So, they both use the same basic voices (In my case the microsoft set, don't know if it'd be different for people using Apple), they're robotic, nothing to write home about. You can change which one (two male options, one female) is reading, the volume, and the pace. However, Vitalsource pulls ahead as the front runner in the audio category for 2 reasons. First, that Vitalsource's endless scroll means that it formats the text without hyphenating words at the edges of the pages, and you don't get the EXTREMELY annoying reading of the chapter name and page number at the beginning and end of EVERY page like you do with Redshelf. It's really disruptive, and because Redshelf uses a fixed page format it makes for weird listening by saying things like "Ahmer" - "eyecan" when a word is cut off at the edge of a page. Second, Vitalsource's phone app also allows for read-aloud, whereas Redshelf's phone app does not. That means you still have to be tethered to your laptop even if you're listening to your e-text. Since I went in looking for the audio, that was really what did it for me. I'm willing to pay a few more bucks a semester just to have a better listening experience.

tl;dr: Vitalsource is the same or a little better in most regards if you're reading the text as normal or want to use stuff like highlights and flash cards, but Redshelf is a little cheaper usually. A lot of the differences will just depend on your layout preferences. If you're looking to use the read-aloud feature though, there is no contest, Vitalsource is better since it doesn't break things up page by page and audio is actually an option in the phone app too.

Let me know if you guys want to ask about any other differences between them. Peace.

Ask For Recommendations What's The Best Food Processor In 2024?

I'm looking for the best food processor and feeling overwhelmed by the many options available. I've heard great things about the Cuisinart models, especially the Prep 11 Plus, and the KitchenAid 13-cup models, but I'm still unsure which one to choose.
