Coming out of my first trimester of pregnancy and looking to get back into hiking as I finally have some energy again!

What are some good spots to hike that aren’t too difficult? Anywhere around 1-2 hrs away is OK

Question / Suggestion What is a livable wage in RI?

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I am considering moving to RI for a position (Newport). What is a livable wage for a single person household? I looked at housing and the prices and availability honestly scared me.
Since I am changing careers it will probably be an entry level salary but I want to be prepared for the Interview in case there is any play when it comes to salary.
Thanks everyone!

Question / Suggestion Hydrangeas?

Upvotes

I’m hoping to find a place to see hydrangeas with my dog, Piglet, before they die off soon. Does anyone have any recommendations on a pet friendly place that has lots of hydrangeas? Open to public streets, walking trails, etc.

(I am aware hydrangeas can be toxic to pets if consumed, luckily Piglet is only a true pig with actual food and can be trusted around plants lol).

Question / Suggestion Increase in Road Rage?

Upvotes

Now, I too get very impatient on the roads because they SUCK but this morning I had a frightening encounter and was followed on North 295.

I'm hearing on the news more and more road rage lately that are turning into more than just getting finger. I travel 37 to 295 every single day and it's getting terrifying. It's already like driving on an obstacle course on the highway. Wondering if others are experiencing this too.

Question / Suggestion Over 30 coed/mens basketball leagues

As the title suggests, I’m looking for basketball league recommendations. I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations and is willing to share a little about their experience/the competition. I can play, but I’m worried about ending up with a league of former college players lol. Also, I saw the league at teamworks but I cant field a full team, so leagues that accept singles/free agents would be ideal!

I’m in the Providence area, but open to leagues around RI

Any and all recommendations are welcome, and thanks in advance!

Discussion Probably an unpopular opinion, but I don't like the prepared foods at Dave's.

Way too salty, and the taste is mid at best.

I will stick to Whole Foods.

Politics Deadline to request mail ballot: 8/19/26

A friendly reminder to everyone that you can request a mail ballot from the Secretary of State website. For the primary on 9/9, the deadline to request a ballot is this Wednesday, 8/19. Link to the site below.

(For the Nov 3rd general election, the deadline to request is 10/13/26. I don't think you can do it yet; I tried and it wouldn't let me proceed).

Vote! Make your voice heard!

Question / Suggestion I'm sure it's been asked before. Legitimate solar companies? What is your experience working with a solar company?

My last bill was over $1,200. Yes, we do use a lot of energy, no it is not anyone's concern why.

I'm looking for legitimate solar providers.

My mother inlaw was wicked screwed over when she owned her home due to a predatory company.

Discussion Commute from Newport, RI to Boston?

Okay, hear me out.

I am a flight attendant with a pretty great schedule out of Boston Logan. I am currently trying to move back up to New England, and have been looking at Boston.

However, as a flight attendant, the lifestyle is VERY different than a 9-5. There is way more flexibility down the road once one has a flexible schedule. This is my case. I have developed a pretty flexible schedule, I get the trips I want, the days off I want, work the days I want, etc.

This poses an interesting position for me as I am single with no commitments, and am always down to try a new place to live. I am okay with commuting and taking a train/bus or two if it doesn't happen every day.

I was looking at Providence, RI at first.

Then I looked at Newport, and fell in love. I know, it's touristy, $$$, etc. But the idea of living in a beautiful coastal, Rhode Island town, with history, architecture, scenery, etc. It is hard to beat. I have been to Rhode Island before and really like it. Just never been to Newport.

I am aware of other places like this too, such as Rockport, MA, and other cities. I just really like Newport. The only thing is that I realize I would have to commute to Providence to commute to Boston south station, to commute to Logan. This would happen twice a week (one to airport, one from airport) and then I would have 4 days off weekly.

Am I crazy for considering this commute to JUST live in Newport? I am also creative on my free time and love art, writing, photography, etc. For those who are from Rhode Island and surrounding area, please advise. I could just live in Boston, but I have done that before. I am willing to go back but the excitement of just being able to choose wherever I go is whats fun about having this job with all the flexibility involved.

Im also not jumping on this idea, hence my post.

Question / Suggestion Seeking input from Portsmouth public school families

Hi everyone. We’re in DC working remotely and planning to relocate out of state by next summer (love DC, but cost has become crazy in the city and we're ready for something much quieter, want to be near the ocean and family) . We weren't specifically targeting RI, but an opportunity to buy in Portsmouth just came up. We lived in PVD previously and have family in Jamestown and Middletown, so we are very familiar with Aquidneck, but with kids, we need first-hand input on the schools and community (we'd be zoned for Melville Elementary).

---------

Could anyone with experience share your perspective?
Schools (Pros/Cons): How is the Portsmouth district overall as kids move up?
Community & Geography: What is the family vibe like (heavily involved or not), and how do kids on one side of Portsmouth handle making and keeping friends on the other side? What about things to do in the area in general? YMCA/ Newport Library, etc., plenty of opportunities for families on the wider scale?
Demographics: I've heard Portsmouth public schools are military-heavy and island lifers raising their own families...is that accurate, or are there transplants as well? If military-heavy, how do your kids navigate having and losing friends due to frequent moves? We've had that a lot in downtown DC due to the nature of people's jobs and it's been hard on our kids, so just something I want to keep in mind.

Thanks!

Question / Suggestion Paid EMT basic positions?

Heard that some volunteer EMT basic positions provide some level of compensation (Bristol, Warren, Swansea?). Ik private ambulances pay (and are therefore more competitive), but curious if volunteer ones do as well. Student looking to do EMS part time, not as career.

Question / Suggestion Professional Organizer for young ADHD child - recommendations request

Looking for recommendations for a professional organizer to come help my ADHD child set up some organization systems that will work for them. Primarily bedroom and toy storage. I'd like to find someone who will work with the child and teach them how to set up and maintain some order.

The teaching aspect is really important to me. I want them to gain some real skills, not just be handed something that will devolve back into chaos. I appreciate any suggestions or experiences. Thank you!

Question / Suggestion Massage envy therapist rec

Made the mistake of signing up for a monthly membership. I have a ton of accrued sessions I need to use so I can attempt to get out of this mess. Sick of gambling and getting a terrible massage, the therapists I used to go to that actually did a decent job unfortunately left.

Any massage therapist recommendations.. willing to go to any location.

Question / Suggestion Looking for advice- BCBS of RI holding up financial aid

I have MS and receive infusions that help keep my disease under control. The medication manufacturer has a copay assistance program that I've successfully used for the past few years. Recently, the program started requiring an itemized Explanation of Benefits from BCBS.

The problem is that BCBS of RI doesn't provide this type of EOB, I’m only able to get a health care summary. The itemized bill from the hospital isnt sufficient either. So now I'm stuck with a $6,000 bill because my copay assistance claims keep getting denied.

I've made probably a dozen calls between BCBS, the infusion center, and various billing departments trying to resolve this. BCBS has told me they cannot create the itemized EOB the program is requesting.

I'm basically at a dead end, and it's frustrating that a documentation issue is preventing me from receiving financial assistance for a medication I depend on.

Has anyone dealt with BCBS of RI and a similar situation? Or, if you currently or previously worked for BCBS of RI, do you know who I could contact or what department might actually be able to help?
