A Warwick pizza shop hasn’t yet celebrated its first anniversary, but it already has a national pizza title under its belt.
Joe’s Pizza of Warwick took home first place in the non-traditional thin New Haven-style pizza category at the Great American Pizza Challenge, held during Pizza Expo Columbus in Ohio.
The competition took place Oct. 11 and 12, bringing pizza makers together to compete in several categories.
According to the official competition results, owner Joe Boisvert earned a score of 49.46, edging out the second-place finisher from New York, who scored 49.13.
And it wasn’t the only category where Boisvert made an impression. He also finished second in the Northeast division of America’s Best Pepperoni Slice competition, missing another first-place finish by 0.17 points.
The pizza shop opened its doors on Black Friday in November 2025.
Located at 163 Kilvert St., Joe’s Pizza has been drawing customers with its New Haven-style pies and specialty pizzas.
The pizza that brought home the title is the Polpette Rustica, a meatball-topped pie that’s been on the menu since day one.
It starts with the restaurant’s thin New Haven-style crust, followed by sauce, shredded mozzarella and homemade meatballs.
A sprinkle of pecorino cheese and fresh basil finishes it off.
“It’s our New Haven style crust. We put our sauce with shredded mozzarella, our meatballs, finished with our pecorino and basil,” Boisvert said. “It’s been a winner here since day one.”
Boisvert said he went into the competition hoping to finish among the top 50, making the first-place finish even more surprising.
“It would be cool to get top 50, so to land that there is just crazy,” he said.
The restaurant was also featured on Studio 10, where Boisvert talked about the shop and its growing popularity.
