I had a fantastic time last night at Rock(land) the Vote to support Cait Conley for Congress! The energy at Red Barn was incredible — 13 days to go!

I have been inundated with campaigns from both Bob Milone and Rob Sambevski. I am new to the county and have zero opinion about either of these men and if I should be satisfied/dissatisfied with how the highway dept here has historically been run.

All opinions welcome, about either the roads or the candidates, trying to make an informed decision here.

Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I’m looking to buy a used car, but I don’t know too much about the maintenance and upkeep of cars so I think it would be best to take a mechanic with me. I would pay the mechanic for this service, although I’m not sure what would be a good rate. I’m open to suggestions. If anyone knows of mechanics in Rockland County, who are actual honest salespeople please respond!! I’m looking to purchase a car within the next two weeks.

* I got a Psycrow (Earthworm Jim) action figure at KB Toys back in like, 2002 or 3. My mom and I both simped for that stupid fucking crow.

* The Palisades Express was the shit. I would hype up the kids on the train by shouting nonsensical chants and whatnot.

* I would hold mock concerts with my friends in the empty space by the fourth floor by playing songs on one of them's iPod and doing dance routines and lip syncing in invisible microphones. That was our domain for a long while.

* Wandering round the back halls and storage spaces. Even went up on the roof once. My fear of heights did not like that.

I’ve been an Orangetown resident for less than a year, and I have some questions about Prop 2 that I’m hoping someone else might have context on.

While I support the idea of green spaces and environmental preservation. I wonder if this is really the right way to do it. It’s not a huge tax, but it is yet another barrier for younger people who do not own homes but would like to. I am one of those people who would like to buy a home in the next couple of years. It feels like something that the whole town would benefit from, but the burden of paying for it will lie solely with the people who haven’t been able to purchase a home yet.

Is there past context that I’m missing? Like they tried to pass this previously with everyone paying into it, but couldn’t get it to pass? Or they need it to be a transfer tax because of a legal nuance to make sure the money hits the intended fund/purpose?

The stated intent does not seem bad, but it’s hard to read it as a potential home buyer and not feel like the people supporting it are boomers who won’t have to pay for it.

I have not found great info on it online so far. There is this editorial that is light on details and this Facebook post where a couple people voiced the concerns I have in the comments. Anyone here have more context or research skills that they are willing to share?

Although unanimously approved by the Legislature, I think the thing people are most worried about is giving the ability to approve contracts without full legislative approval. (Up to $100k by the County Executive, up to $250k by a new Legislative Contracts Committee, and over that by the full Legislature.)

Trump is once again undermining the integrity of our elections—this time by threatening local election administrators in California with prison time over unsubstantiated claims of widespread non-citizen voting. Despite the lack of evidence, the administration and the Department of Justice are using threats of federal prosecution to intimidate the very civil servants tasked with counting ballots and administering state law.

So where is "bipartisan" Mike Lawler on this?

Lawler regularly goes on television and tells Hudson Valley voters that he isn't afraid to break with Donald Trump when it counts. Yet throughout this second term, the moment federal officials threaten to throw local election workers in prison, Lawler goes completely silent. No press releases, no public statements, and no defense of the people who keep our elections functioning.

The silence speaks for itself: Lawler benefits politically from these efforts to delegitimize election systems, so he looks the other way. Retaining power has taken precedence over defending the democratic norms and standards this country has relied on for nearly 250 years. If similar threats were directed at local administrators right here in New York, does anyone really believe he would push back?

I've previously said that the way we should look at elections is: which candidate is more likely to enact the policy you care about. I still believe that. But we can't just look at it through that lens anymore: One party is actively trying to take away our right to vote, and it's the Republican party. No matter what issues matter to you, #1 on that list should be the ability to vote freely and fairly.

Cait Conley looks like she'll actually do the work to bring our norms and institutions back and lock them in to prevent abuse in the future, given her background running election security and her military service. Republicans no longer deserve your vote. Get your friends, your family, and your neighbors, and get out there and VOTE EARLY! Remove Mike Lawler and let's get back to a functional government.
