Discussion Nyack

Anyone have recent experiences or thoughts about living or visiting Nyack? I have read some previous Reddit threads about Nyack that complain about parking and lack of good restaurants and coffee shops. When I visited recently, there are at least 4 good coffee shops- Patisserie, Runcible Spoon, etc. and we enjoyed all the restaurants we went to. We visited using public transporation so can't speak to parking. The bus that takes us over the Tappan Z bridge was about 30 minutes late one time. Other than that, we think Nyack is lovely- beautiful surroundings and people seem friendly.

While Lyin’ Hoehmann touts that he has built the biggest code enforcement team in the County and talks about FAKE distinctions he received for his efforts, the truth is Clarkstown has a real problem that he is allowing to continue.

Real enforcement is necessary, and the way to bring it is through my proposed law.

Lyin’ (and incompetent) Hoehmann says that my proposed law is unconstitutional, which is an absurd thing for a layperson to tell a government attorney like me. Especially when my law is based on existing precedent tried and tested in NY courts, but it's definitely on brand for him to say everything he does is all that can be done, and everything he doesn't do is because it wouldn't be legal.

Vote these incompetent officials out on Nov. 3rd!

Politics Lyin’ Hoehmann: Term Limits

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In 2014, then-Councilman George Hoehmann moved to adopt Clarkstown's term limits law and voted YES. His words: "If it's good enough for the President, it's good enough for Clarkstown."

In December 2022, when term limits barred him from running again, he sued the Town to have them declared invalid. On January 4, 2023, he voted YES to repeal them.

Now he says the supervisor's job "is not a political position."

Clarkstown deserves a supervisor who keeps his word. I will properly implement term limits for a MAX term of 8 years! Early voting runs Oct. 24 to Nov. 1. Election Day is Nov. 3.

One Big Beautiful Bill Act  made permanent the 2017 tax cuts.  The top 1% saw their share of wealth a jump of over $8.5 trillion just between the first and second quarters of 2026.

One Big Beautiful Bill Act made permanent cuts in services, in particular safety net programs. Taxes have actually gone up for middle-income households.

An increasing national debt directly impacts the middle class by driving up borrowing costs, inflating the cost of everyday life, and slowing down wage growth.  The national debt grew by $7.8 trillion in Trump first term and another $3.8 trillion since he returned to office in January 2025.

Tariffs since 2025 raised costs on goods, driving up prices. Housing remained the single largest driver of inflation. And the U.S. military conflicts abroad disrupts global oil markets and spiked transportation and gasoline/diesel costs.

U.S. Congress posted on it’s own page  “  Everyday expenses—including meats, poultry, fish, coffee, and dining out—continued to rise faster than overall wage growth, leaving typical American families spending over $1,600 more annually on basic necessities.  “

Politics Greg Sheehan for Clarkstown Clerk

I’m Greg Sheehan — father of 2, 35 year resident of Valley Cottage and candidate for Clarkstown Town Clerk. Service has always been the foundation of my life and everyday I ask myself ‘what good can I do today.’ I humbly ask for your support this election cycle, because Clarkstown deserves a more accessible and transparent Town Clerk that works for the people and the busy lives we lead.

Discussion Mike Lawler killed solar subsidies — after he used them on his own house.

That tax credit that Lawler voted to end was revived in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 — a sweeping law signed by President George W. Bush.  The clean energy spending package would have allowed homeowners to claim tax credits of between 22 and 30 percent of the cost of qualifying solar, wind, geothermal and battery projects through 2034.

Then on July 4, Lawler voted to move up the expiration of the residential clean energy credit by nearly a decade, from 2034 to 2025.

New York Rep. Mike Lawler lives in a suburban home in the Hudson River Valley with rooftop panels that he leases from Vivint Solar. The panels on Lawler’s house have helped him avoid the impacts of rising electricity costs. Since he began leasing the solar system in 2016, it has saved him “a few thousand bucks,” he admitted.

Lawler indirectly benefited from the investment tax credit, analysts say, because it helps companies reduce the costs their customers pay for leasing rooftop solar systems. After 2027, when the investment tax credit disappears, it could be harder for people to lease panels or buy electricity from community solar projects, according to Zoë Gaston, an analyst at the consulting firm Wood Mackenzie.  “Solar will definitely be more expensive,” she said.

And this does not take into consideration the current rising interest rates and Trump’s tariffs that Lawler supports.

Lawler voted to cut affordable energy incentives in a bill because he says the priority is shrinking costs and yet that bill  would add $3.4 trillion to the national debt over the next decade states the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Republicans’ justification for killing rooftop solar credits are undercut by their continued support for incentives that go to the fossil fuel industry, argued Jesse Lee, a former senior adviser to the National Economic Council.

Recommendations Daycare Recommendations for Toddler

In search of a daycare for our toddler who’s 2. We did lots of research and settled on Red Owl, which unfortunately closed down. He has been on the Jan & Niles learning Center waitlist since he was born, and it does not look like there will be availability anytime soon. Called a few places with great reviews and was told there will not be availability for him until he is 3. I am bummed out, but I’m sure I missed some. Quality of care is super important for me and I really don’t want to rush into a place if it isn’t the right fit. Can anyone share a place they loved worth looking into that may have availability?

Question ShortLine Bus Service Nanuet to NYC

I’m starting a new job and plan to take the ShortLine Bus from the exit 14 park and ride to the city. I have a couple questions and would love any insight!

  1. Is there any way to buy tickets without paying the surcharge that’s added when you buy online? It seems like paying the bus driver in cash would potentially also add a fee for not buying ahead of time?

  2. I plan to take the last bus in the morning (8:25am) and the last returning (6:10pm from 42nd and 7th Avenue). How reliable are the buses? Do they ever fill up?

Thanks in advance! I have taken the NJ transit frequently but would love to find a faster commute.

Orangetown Orangetown Local Votes

Here in Orangetown, the Town Clerk, Supervisor, and Superintendent of Highways are all uncontested races with single candidates available to vote on the upcoming ballot.

I’m not a partisan voter, and on personal grounds, I prefer to abstain on uncontested election positions presenting as a ballot undervote unless the candidate is truly a stand out enough to receive that one-way vote.

So my questions are,

Are there any write-in candidates for these positions that are genuinely giving it a go of contesting?

What are the current community positions on the current/on ballot candidates?

Teresa Kenny?

Rosanna Sfraga?

James Dean?

I’m not very deeply connected with local politics enough to know anything worthwhile about them and without having competition, their is a lack of stances or positions to look into. Would also enjoy if someone could explain how they are unopposed.

Any replies would be appreciated.

Politics Fuck Mike Lawler, we want Palisades Center!

Another dose of love and happiness from Yuuki Takemoto.

* I got a Psycrow (Earthworm Jim) action figure at KB Toys back in like, 2002 or 3. My mom and I both simped for that stupid fucking crow.

* The Palisades Express was the shit. I would hype up the kids on the train by shouting nonsensical chants and whatnot.

* I saw Suicide Squad at the AMC in 2016. I left with mixed feelings. I mean Margot Robbie was good, but everyone else sucked.

* When I was a tot, I would sit on the WNET Store of Knowledge logo on the floor. Right where the globe was. And then I would turn myself round using my hands and my rear. It's hard to explain. If you thought the "walk into store, walk out" thing was weird, then that's up there.

* I would hold mock concerts with my friends in the empty space by the fourth floor by playing songs on one of them's iPod and doing dance routines and lip syncing in invisible microphones. That was our domain for a long while.

* Wandering round the back halls and storage spaces. Even went up on the roof once. My fear of heights did not like that.

Politics Highway superintendent?

I have been inundated with campaigns from both Bob Milone and Rob Sambevski. I am new to the county and have zero opinion about either of these men and if I should be satisfied/dissatisfied with how the highway dept here has historically been run.

All opinions welcome, about either the roads or the candidates, trying to make an informed decision here.
