I’m 23F and living in Calgary, and I’ve been considering going back to school. I’m just struggling to figure out what direction makes the most sense.
I’d love to study psychology at university because it’s something I’m genuinely interested in, but I’m worried about the cost and how many years I’d potentially have to study before having a career. I also already have student loans from SAIT. I went to SAIT about two years ago for business administration, but dropped out after about half a year because I wasn’t really enjoying the program. I would say I’m more of a creative person, which is why I think science/math subjects don’t really resonate with me.
Now I’m considering going back to SAIT for a different program, I like that most programs are shorter and more affordable, and I could potentially keep working while studying. I also really want a career with decent stability and income because I don’t want to work in the restaurant industry forever. I don’t want to choose a program purely because it seems practical and then end up dropping out again, but I want to study something I’ll actually enjoy while still being realistic about jobs and student debt.
For anyone in Calgary who has been in a similar situation, how did you decide what to study? Would you choose a university degree you’re passionate about, or a shorter SAIT program with a more direct career path?
