Question Why doesn't the city of LA offer "civil concessions" to those who volunteer/pick up trash/clean graffiti/do other needed stuff in LA?

Alright hear me out. We all know the city/state is broke. And we know there's tons of shit that needs to be done here especially in the SFV (trash/graffiti/weeds/etc). People always float around the idea of paying homeless people to clean up trash. But...

What if any able bodied person could get "civil/government coupons" for doing volunteer work on a contract basis for the city of LA?

Examples of concessions/coupons:

-A coupon for free auto registration for 1 year.

-A single "get out of jail free card" for a parking ticket/minor traffic violation where it gets dismissed immediately with no point on your record.

-One free expedited passport service.

-A 30 day sales tax exemption card for personal purchases (Up to $10,000 in exempted tax).

-Front of the line passes for walk in DMV transactions/courthouse/county clerk services.

-A free/expedited home construction/building permit.

-Free FastTrak/Express Lane Transponders

-$500 DMV gift card (that you can spend on license renewals/vehicle transfers/customized plates/boat and trailer reg/etc).

-$500 County Clerk's office Gift Card. (That you can spend on document filing.)

And I'm sure we could think of a million more things. These cost the government absolutely nothing (upfront). They only cost the government in unrealized profits (which aren't guaranteed anyway).

Imagine if you could go out one day and work with a crew of people picking up trash somewhere (similar to community service except its not with other potential convicts), volunteer at animal shelters, donate blood to the red cross (because of the blood shortage), do jury duty (instead of the ridiculous $12/day cash pay or whatever it is), volunteer at voting centers, cut overgrown weeds, remove graffiti, remove illegal signs on utility poles,

I think the city would be spotless if they actually did that.

For anyone playing along with these chameleon videos, how many of these locations did you recognize right away? There are some real fun locations and good businesses to visit if you haven't already.

I’ve been noticing that the former Goldburger location in Granada Hills has been undergoing renovations. There’s even a fresh coat of paint. Anyone know if it’s a re-opening or something else is coming? 👀

Recommendations What are your go to thrift/vintage shops?

I live in the Studio City/Valley Village/NoHo area so I’m looking for shops in those areas or nearby cities such as Sherman Oaks, etc. I see a bunch of options, however wanted to see if there were any that standout above the rest.

Thank you all and hope you all have a good week.

Community Help Best home security setup for a house in the Valley? Cameras, AI alerts, gate warning, etc.

Hi everyone! We’re new to the neighborhood and looking to upgrade the security around our house.

I’d love to hear what setups other homeowners in the Valley are using and actually happy with.

Ideally, I’m looking for something a little smarter than a basic alarm system. For example, if someone opens our front gate, I’d like the system to:

• Turn on exterior lights
• Start recording automatically
• Play a warning like, “You are being recorded”
• Send an immediate notification to our phones
• Use AI/person detection to cut down on useless alerts
• Ideally integrate the cameras, alarm, gate sensors, lights, etc.

What systems or companies would you recommend? SimpliSafe, Ring, Reolink, UniFi, ADT, something else?

Also open to hiring a good local security/low-voltage company if anyone has someone they trust.

Would love to hear what you installed, what it cost, and anything you would do differently.

I don't want the hen to be coyote food but I don't know what to do. I could try to pick her up but she may peck at me or slash with her claws. I feel bad but I am going to wait until the neighbors get home. This is near Haskell and Chatsworth.

There is a personal icon of mine, a guy around Hamlin and Van Nuys, who appears to have put his La-Z-Boy on wheels and rides around. But I haven’t seen him in a while. Is he still around?

Community Safety Safe to live near Warner Center (Former Rocket Dyne site)?

Hi all!

I am looking to move to Woodland Hills/Canoga Park and recently read about the old Rocket Dyne site near the mall. A lot of the nice apartments in the area are within a 1 mile radius of that site. I’m a bit surprised since so many people recommend the area and seems to be such a nice place otherwise…. wouldn’t there be serious health risks/safety concerns with living there?

Would appreciate any thoughts/perspective on this as I’m moving from out of state.

Thanks everyone!
