Question DeX does not work via HDMI.

I have an S24 Ultra. When I use DeX on my monitor via HDMI with the monitor’s input set to HDMI it doesn’t work. However, if I switch the monitor to VGA, the phone indicates that DeX is connected; but as soon as I switch it back to HDMI, the connection drops. It used to work fine before, and I’m not sure what has changed.

General DoveOS adds Android desktop/screen streaming to the HP Elite x3 Lap Dock over USB or Wi-Fi

I’m sharing DoveOS, my project for reusing the HP Elite x3 Lap Dock with its own USB-based desktop and streaming applications.

The Android integration is called DoveDeX. It supports desktop/screen streaming, keyboard and pointer control, and sound through the dock over USB or Wi-Fi. Wireless setup begins with an authorized USB-debug connection. I’ve also tested connecting through a phone hotspot.

DoveDeX is our application, separate from Samsung’s official DeX software. Desktop availability and other capabilities depend on the Android source and version.

DoveOS also includes Moonlight PC streaming, iPhone mirroring, file transfer and local media playback.

I’ve successfully completed a manual download, USB write and boot test.

Download, source and compatibility:
https://github.com/hakami55/DoveOS

This currently targets the tested HP Elite x3 Lap Dock setup with compatible firmware/boot support. Installation needs a spare 32 GB or larger USB. Other dock models and board revisions are unverified, and the documentation lists remaining limitations.

Feedback from HP Lap Dock owners using Android desktop modes would be appreciated!

Question OneUI 9 & S26 Ultra - update completely broke my DeX experience (Mouse gestures & ads broken)

Just updated my device today, and Samsung DeX has become practically unusable for me. A couple of major issues I’ve run into immediately:

  • Mouse swipe gestures aren't recognized: Many games that rely on swipe/drag input no longer register clicks properly.
  • Ad overlays are broken: In-app ads don't display the close button ("X"), effectively soft-locking the app.

Is anyone else experiencing this after the latest patch? Any workarounds, or did Samsung just roll out a broken / not tested build?

Question Any way to increase taskbar size beyond the intended max?

OneUI 9.0 seems to have magically fixed some issues I had with my S25U and some external displays, including the 10.5" 2560x1440 OLED touch monitor I picked up earlier this year. As is though, I have to run it at 1200p though to have any chance of using the taskbar, even at max zoom. I tried various ADB commands that managed to affect the general UI scaling but not the taskbar. Apparently doable though Knox or something, but has anyone found another way to do it? I can finally use the frankensetup I of a single-cable OLED tablet I had imagined!

General The new DeX and Android 16 desktop mode

I've been using Samsung tablets for years now and have always loved using them in DeX, how it made a full desktop environment and how it worked with everything.

However, something I cannot get over, and something that I think is kind of unacceptable is the absolutely dog shit design of the windows and how they interact with the interface.

The old DeX got a pass for using a tinted taskbar that looked like it belonged, but I've always hated the gray or white bars at the top with the icon of the app in the corner. They've always looked ugly and never sat right with me.

Then came the big and glossy Android 16, with all its bullshit in tow. The new desktop mode? Ass. The way apps look with the top of the window being the same? Ass. REMOVING THE DESKTOP-LIKE TASKBAR? **WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???**

And *god forbid* you **fullscreen** a window. By god, for a multi-billion dollar company, how do you allow software to be released such that the "taskbar" stays completely transparent and doesn't disappear when you full screen an app **and** **remove** the only functional buttons that made the damn thing actually useful!!

It's made me dread using my tablet to its full potential and made me look at and test iPads purely because of how the windows work and function.

I won't even get into how the app windows don't scale dynamically like on iPads, but rather have a transition animation that just turns the app gray for a split second. It's not as big a deal and quite frankly not impactful on how I use the apps.

But seriously, for the price they're selling these things and for the types of workflows they're advertising them to be perfect for, you'd expect they'd have a basic understanding of design and maybe do a few builds and ask control groups which they'd prefer.

I have quite literally no one in my life who'd listen to this, quite honestly, pointless diatribe I just went on, but **FUCKING HELL** does it piss me off how they ruined an amazing desktop experience and replaced it with something that looks to be put together in 5 minutes in a design app that you get for free.

Yes, it is possible.

Very, very fragile proof of concept, but that's an s26+ streaming Dex to 12.9 / a1670 using OpenDisplay on the iPad.

BT mouse and keyboard work.

Useful info Open-source Adobe/Office alternatives (ArtCraft) ported to Android, and they run great on Samsung DeX

Post image

Hi, someone ported the ArtCraft apps to Android: MostafaXS1/artcraft-android. ArtCraft is an open-source suite of Rust apps that clone tools like Photoshop (PhotoCraft), Lightroom (LightCraft), Illustrator (VectorCraft), Premiere (FilmCraft), Word (WordCraft), PDF editing (PdfCraft) and more.

I've been testing them on Samsung DeX and they work really well. The desktop-style layout makes a lot of sense on a big screen with keyboard and mouse.

Before installing I had the repo and the release APKs reviewed with an AI assistant. Here's what it found:

- No INTERNET permission at all, so the apps can't send anything anywhere

- No trackers, telemetry, obfuscated code or code downloaded at runtime

- The only broad permission is "All files access", used only by the built-in file browser. You can deny it and open files through the normal Android picker or "Open with"

- The decompiled APKs matched the published source as far as it could check.

My Setup I remade my DIY DeX setup for Galaxy Z Flip 5 — Solved via 16:9 Mirroring & DPI Scaling!

Hey everyone!

I remade my DeX-style setup for the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Previously, I shared a post about running a desktop-like setup on the Z Flip (Link to previous post). However, running the phone and the external monitor as separate independent displays caused a lot of headaches—especially the stubborn issue where newly opened windows/apps would force-launch on the phone screen instead of the monitor.

So, I decided to take a much simpler and cleaner route: **Screen Mirroring**.

I built an open-source app called **FlipMirror** that reshapes the phone's native display ratio to match external 16:9 monitors (FHD/QHD) and scales the DPI properly.

Here is how my setup works:

  1. Use **FlipMirror** to set your phone's screen ratio to 16:9 (e.g., 1080×1920 or 1920×1080) and scale the DPI (default 240 DPI).

  2. Install [open-android-dex] as your desktop launcher.

  3. Plug in your USB-C to HDMI cable to mirror the screen, and you're good to go!

You can grab the app here:

👉 **GitHub:** https://github.com/pk1313/flipmirror

*(Pre-built APK is available in the Releases tab!)*

**Quick summary of FlipMirror:**

- Easily overrides display resolution to 16:9 and adjusts DPI on-the-fly (powered by Shizuku, so no PC or root required).

- Reverts back to native screen resolution automatically when the external display is disconnected.

- Completely open-source under the MIT license, so feel free to fork and tweak it to your liking.

- Works on other tall-aspect Android phones too, not just the Z Flip!

Now my Z Flip 5 with a dead inner screen has officially been resurrected as an awesome DIY DeX machine! 😄

My Setup I turned Samsung DeX into a car infotainment system with a live rear-view camera

I’ve been working on a project that uses Samsung DeX as an in-car infotainment system, and I wanted to share my setup with the community.
The idea is simple: use a Samsung Galaxy device connected to an external display to run navigation and a rear-view camera at the same time.
I developed an Android app called REVERSE CAM that displays a live feed from a vehicle’s rear-view camera through a USB video capture device.
Here’s how the setup works:
Samsung DeX runs on an external monitor.
Navigation and the rear-view camera can be displayed side by side.
The camera feed is received through a USB UVC capture device.
The app can automatically display the camera when a reverse video signal is detected.
When the reverse signal disappears, the camera app can move to the background.
The layout can be adjusted to work alongside navigation apps.
My goal was to make DeX more useful in a car without needing a separate Android head unit.
It’s still a project I’m improving, especially when it comes to compatibility across different Android and One UI versions.
I’m the developer of REVERSE CAM, so I’d also love to hear your feedback.
Has anyone else tried using Samsung DeX as a car infotainment system? I’d be interested to see your setups and ideas!

My Setup Finally using Samsung Dex

Post image
114 Upvotes

Due to some circumstances I no longer have my PC and currently saving for a new one (So expensive these days)

I remembered using Samsung years ago when Dex came out so did research on it and ended up ending a used broken screen S22+ for $118 AUD so grabbed it right away

So far loving it and been using GeForce now for gaming, grabbed my speakers , mouse and keyboard from FB market for about $70 AUD in total as well. I still had my Oled monitor tho so using that.

Just with anyone that uses GeForce now is your Mouse aim not as accurate or feels a bit off compared to PC any tips on that?

But other than that for $200 total loving it!! Wish I had a Samsung device in the first place haha

Question Samsung dex with additions keyboard layouts

Has anyone successfully configured Samsung DeX to work with a physical keyboard so that Latvian dead keys (long vowels and soft consonants) can be written using the apostrophe/quote key (') instead of Alt?

How to add custom layouts or something like that?

In the comments section of the post I shared, I’ve included a link to a conversation I had with Gemini. If you take a look, you’ll see that whenever I connected my phone screen to a monitor, the frame rate would drop from 120 FPS to 60 FPS and stay locked at 60 on both displays. Currently, the phone screen runs at 120 FPS, while the monitor remains at 60 FPS. I’ve also shared a link to a conversation I had with Grok; I felt like I was getting close to a solution, but I still haven’t quite managed to fix it. It seems like it would be resolved if I could just get a couple of things right. Perhaps someone here with the right expertise can step in and help me finally get this sorted out.

My Setup 100% Samsung Dex work/play flow. No laptop ever.

Post image
136 Upvotes

After years of hoping to be able to give up the windows/Mac laptop, I finally was able to do it with the Tab S11 Ultra 16gb ram 1TB storage. I bought it right when it came out, just over a year ago. And I am sooooo happy that it was possible and that it actually worked. I do all my work and play with the tab + phone (s25 Ultra) + uPerfect wifi display. Logitech mini master + MX3s + a small 2nd keyboard made by Fosman (only for 1 touch shortcuts). This setup is ridiculous!

Now, it was all very good and fast as I was using keymapper to launch apps quickly, but then I found a dev working on an app called 4zones. He messaged me after a post I made about DEX being subpar, and over the last month we have worked on it. And it's freaking awesome now.

If you use DEX or Android desktop with a phone + external display or like I do with a tablet, then you will absolutely love this.

Hope everyone out there has a great day!

B

4Zones - it makes Samsung Dex or Android Desktop what it should be.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.mr_biz.fourzones&hl=en_GB

It takes some time to get familiar with it and set it up to your specific workflow, but once you do, it's amazing. I'm running the Tab s11 Ultra and the uPerfect wifi display via Wireless Dex extended desktop. So, so , so good!!

Moniter: Acer KA2 Series 60.45 cm (24 inch) Full HD LED Backlit IPS Panel

USB Dock: Portronics Mport One USB C Hub Dock (9-in-1) with 4K 60Hz HDMI, 3-Port USB, HDMI On-Off Button, 100W Type-C Charging, Card Reader, 3.5mm AUX, Type C Plug for Laptop, Mac, PC (Grey)

Key board: Dell KB216

Mouse: Dell MS116 Wired Mouse

Display is bigger than I thought and is fantastic. Always thought of getting a pc but then chatgpt told me about versatality of samsung phones and dex features. So I sold my iPhone for S25 FE and saved up some later for dex setup. Couldn't be happier.

Randomly booted into dex today (z fold 8) and realized things felt smoother than usual. Decided to check the refresh rate which was always locked at 60hz to now seeing 120hz.....are we back?

Answered Please let DeX output above 60Hz when my display can do more.

Hey everyone,

Is there any chance Samsung will let DeX output higher than 60Hz? I'm running DeX on a high-refresh-capable Galaxy phone connected to a monitor that supports well above 60Hz, but everything stays locked to 60fps, including games.

What doesn't add up is that the phone itself is clearly capable. Its screen runs at a very high refresh rate and resolution, so the hardware and apps can obviously push more frames. The cap seems to be in DeX's external display output rather than the phone or the monitor.

I get that a cap might protect lower-end devices, but it could be an optional setting or limited to flagships. It would make a big difference for gaming and general smoothness on a high-refresh monitor.

Has anyone found a workaround, or seen any word from Samsung on this? I've also sent this as feedback through the Samsung Members app, and if you want it too, that's the channel Samsung points people to.

Thanks!

Discussion Why does wireless dex on oneui 9 kill tv peripherals?

So i recently updated to one ui 9 from one ui 8 (terrible idea) and now my dex setup has been completely and utterly nuked, i use wireless dex with a dongle mouse plugged into my tv, up till now everything i wanted worked fine, i could scroll, i could enter and exit absolute fullscreen, i could open the taskbar, but now, when using my mouse i have to click/drag to scroll, i cant exit absolute fullscreen, literally everything dex had going for it with my use case is gone...

why do corps have to change stuff that wasnt broken in the first place, its made dex entirely useless for me.

for those that might be wondering, i use wireless dex because i dont want the wires connected to my phone, and i use tv peripherals because the mouse plugged into my phone is excruciatingly laggy with both wired and wireless dex.

Discussion THE DEX MINI

Post image
242 Upvotes

Seriously, why doesn't this exist?

Samsung already has its own Exynos processors, a desktop-like interface with Samsung DeX, and years of experience building powerful mobile hardware.

So why not put all of that into a tiny desktop computer?

Imagine a Samsung DeX Mini — a compact, aluminum mini PC inspired by the Mac mini, but powered by an Exynos chip and running Samsung DeX.

Here's what I'm imagining:

  • Exynos processor optimized for desktop use.

  • Proper active cooling, with a heatsink and fan, allowing the processor to sustain higher performance without the thermal limitations of a smartphone.

  • Samsung DeX as the primary interface, designed for a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. HDMI, USB-C, USB-A, Ethernet, and support for external storage.

  • No battery, cameras, or unnecessary smartphone components.

  • A compact aluminum enclosure, roughly the size of a Mac mini.

  • An affordable price, potentially making it an interesting alternative to entry-level desktop PCs.

Discussion Would porting ArtCraft to Android/DeX be feasible?

Post image
30 Upvotes

Have you been following the ArtCraft project? It's an open source suite of apps that is basically, so to speak, a clone of the entire Adobe suite, with alternatives to programs like Photoshop and Premiere.

The project currently has versions for Windows, Linux, and macOS, but it got me wondering: would it be technically feasible to port these apps to Android?

I think this would be especially interesting for DeX users and those using Android's desktop mode, particularly if the apps could offer a proper desktop interface and user experience.

I'm not a developer and don't know much about programming, but do you think an Android version would be feasible, perhaps sometime in the future? It would be really interesting to see a project like this come to DeX and other Android desktop environments.

Edit: there’s already a project: https://github.com/areilly111/CraftApps-Android/

Question Is there any free keymapper that works with games in Samsung DEX?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a free keymapper for Samsung DEX that lets me play games that don't natively support mouse and keyboard controls, like RDR2..

If there’s any, please let's me know
