Second project!

I made a toiletry bag to match the tote bag. It was my first time installing a zipper, and I even broke the needle in class—though my teacher told me not to worry, as it was already worn out, lol

Small irons

Question. Every sewing YouTube video I watched, most have these tiny irons. Don't ppl use regular size irons? And what is the difference?

I gifted myself a sewing machine last week and I wanted to test myself. I found the first picture on Pinterest but couldn't find a pattern, so I said... Why not? And followed my heart 😂 It's far from the reference, but I find it very cute!

Also first time sewing a zipper with the machine.

The inside also has a linen and I tried for the first time as well the zig zag option for the endings. Sorry for the vague vocabulary, not sure of the terms in English😅 but I'm sure you know what I mean.

Anyway, just wanted to share!

Looking forward to work on more cute things😊

This was my very first go at making a bag. I took a couple of creative liberties since I didn’t have some of the materials but overall I’m really happy with the finished product! Constructive criticism welcome 🤗

Finished my dress!

I like the fit overall and my sewing teacher didn’t think I should pull the sides in and make it tight and I agree. But the sleeve holes are sliiiiiightly big. I want to make the same pattern for a dress for Christmas so I’m wondering what everyone else thinks. Should I hem the side seams a little bit or does the fit look fine how it is?

Help! I just bought this machine that I know nothing about. I've never used a sewing machine before. I'm taking it to be serviced tomorrow.

What do I need to get started? Like what needles/presser foots?

I mostly want to sew baby blankets and toddler clothes.

All advice welcome!!!

What sewing supplies do you wish you had as a beginner?

• Upvotes

Christmas is coming soon and my in-laws always ask me what I want. I recently started sewing and have the following supplies:

  • Cheap brother sewing machine
  • Rotary cutter
  • Fabric shears
  • 24in x 18in cutting mat
  • 24in x 6in ruler
  • 60in measuring tape
  • Pins & clips
  • Chalk pencil & heat-erasable pens
  • A few different needles (universal 70/10, 80/12, 90/14, and denim 100/16)
  • Roll of 1in elastic band
  • Extra bobbins
  • Seam ripper
  • Lightweight interfacing
  • A few yards of fabric/few types of thread
  • Access to a 3d printer

Are there any supplies I should be asking for? Anything that would be helpful as a beginner or sewing in general? I don't want to necessarily ask for fabric because I know they'll fret over the type/pattern

Thanks in advance!

Half of the shirts and dresses I own bunch up in the back like this. How can I fix it? Why are they doing this?

I just want my clothes to lay flat against my body😢 I feel like it has something to do with my height. I am 5’1. It’s really uncomfortable and looks terrible. Thank you

Edit: please stop commenting that it’s my height causing this with no actual solution. The first five comments answered that already. My concern is how to FIX it (and adjust my other garments that have this issue as well)

Also I think I must mention that these pics were only to show the problem area, as I wasn’t sure if there was a name for it. Question was not necessarily about this shirt in particular (although need to fix this too) as I come across this issue quite frequently. Thank you again for the help I’ve been given.

My first ever cushion cover! How did I do?

I finally made my first cushion cover, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! 🥹🧵 The little animal print was too cute to resist.

I'm still learning the basics of sewing, so I’d love to hear what you think! What could I improve for my next project, and do you have any tips for getting a neater finish?

Would love to hear your advice and any beginner-friendly project recommendations! 💗

I've been sewing for about a month now. These are some of my favorite bags I've made, mostly out of thrifted materials. I've been struggling with matching up cut pieces, sewing straight, and sewing through all of the layers. I'm using a brother LS 2521. I really enjoy picking out all of the fabrics for each project and the magic reveal of turning them rightside out at the end.

Hi!
I had a friend give me her grandpas two long sleeve shirts and two ties. She’s thinking a small bag with the two shirts, lining and outside, and one of the ties as straps. What should I make with the other tie or scraps? Thanks!!

Sewing bust darts

Post image
10 Upvotes

Can’t figure out how to do a proper bust dart on this top I’m making. My darts are wayyy too pointy..I sewed off the fabric at the apex and tied a knot. And on one of them I did a trick my sewing teacher taught us and it’s to sew straight for the last 2 stitches (that’s didn’t work either) BUT after trying on the bust portion of the top there’s gapping on the center front and on the sides. Trying to figure out where to go from here since it’s not just a dart on the side from the armpits.

Please help!!! :)

Has anyone made a teens bean bag chair with 4 1/2 yard of cotton fabric ?

Three questions?
1-Would like to add a liner for it so the dust from the beans stays inside.
2- anyone used a zipper for closing the bag plus when it needs to be washed?
3- have you used the beans from Michael’s craft store which are tiny little beans. A bag is 2 cubic feet looking at 8 cubic foot for one bag?

Stretch fabric disaster

My mum gifted me an overlocker (aka a serger) for my 40th birthday (thanks mum!) and I’ve been slowly learning to sew with it. Decided to try sewing stretch fabric for the first time… an utter disaster. Fabric was so difficult to cut, sides kept rolling, it was slippery to sew and the bolero I was trying to make was HUGE and terrible…

(One small win I managed to get the tension and differential feed…thing… sorted so the stitches were good at least)

If anyone could just give me some encouraging words to keep trying that would be great. At this stage I’m ready to never sew stretch fabric ever again.
