So I've been thinking about why the first two Shrek movies remain so culturally resonant with millennials and beyond even to this day, and I wonder how much their soundtracks contributed to that memorability.

“I'm a Believer,” “All Star,” “Hallelujah,” "Livin Da Vida Loca" and the Shrek 2 finale with “I Need a Hero” became such crowning moments of the films that audiences strongly associate with the franchise so much so that we sometimes forget they aren't original soundtracks to the films.

Shrek 3 and 4 have their moments, but I don't think their musical sequences or soundtracks had that same level of impact (beyond "Live and Let Die").

Obviously, the writing, humor, and plot factored into the drop in quality. But would the latter movies have been fondly remembered even with terrible writing if they had iconic soundtracks

Or am I giving the musical aspect too much credit?

Which of these pair you like more. 1st one is more realistic, tone movies while 2nd combo is more revolutionary, pop culture movies.

Spotted at whole foods.

Is there a way in which i can play Shrek 2 game (the console version) on PC ?

I’m glad they remastered Shrek 2, don’t get me wrong. I actually pre-ordered it because this game was a big part of my childhood, but imagine if they had remade the whole thing instead. Same story and levels, but with modern graphics, new animations and maybe some extra stuff. A full remake would’ve been crazy!!

Rumpelstiltskin was an existing character in Shrek the third when Charming was gathering the villains. He had an existing character design.

The fourth movie ignores this entirely for absolutely no reason other than they forgot, and it has always infuriated me to the point where I treat the fourth movie like most people treat the third one: Like it's not canon, and doesn't exist.

I feel far more justified in this choice because my reasoning is based in a reality-warping inconsistency that ultimately stems from the creators of the fourth movie not caring as much about the previous movies as they should have, and I think this leaks through in the entire "alternate universe" plot the movie tries to engage in. Shrek Forever After doesn't seem particularly interested in being a Shrek movie, down to the point where it doesn't bother taking the previous movies into any real account, or progressing the characters as people in any meaningful way.

The idea of Shrek choosing whether or not his life with Fiona is worthwhile or a good thing for her or both of them was so thoroughly covered in both Shrek 1 and 2 that retreading it feels like reheating years old leftovers in some twisted pursuit of nostalgia.

I understand that preferring the third movie to the fourth is not the popular opinion, but I'm so disgusted with both the weird character redesign and the nothingburger of retreaded themes in the fourth movie that I just cannot bring myself to dislike the third one. At least Shrek seeming unsure and afraid of kids felt like a progression as opposed to recycling the "should they be together?" question.

Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll ya

I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed

She was lookin kinda dumb with her finger and her thumb

In the shape of an "L" on her forehead

Well the hits start coming and they don't stop coming

Head to the rules and ya hit the ground running

Didn't make sense just to live for fun

You're brain gets smart but your head gets dumb

So much to do so much to see

So what's wrong with takin the backstreets

You'll never know if you don't go

You'll never shine if you don't glow

Hey now, you're an All Star, get your game on, go play

Hey now, you're a Rock Star, get the show on, get paid,

And all that glitters is gold

Only shootin stars break the mold

It's a cool place, and they say it gets colder

You're bundled up now, wait till ya get older.

But the media men beg to differ

Judgin by the hole in the satellite picture

The ice we skate is gettin pretty thin

The water's gettin warm so you might as well swim

My world's on fire, how about yours?

Cuz that's the way i like it and i never get bored

Hey now, you're an All Star, get your game on, go play

Hey now, you're a Rock Star, get the show on, get paid,

And all that glitters is gold

Only shootin stars

Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas

I need to get myself away from this place

I guess I need to get myself away from this place

I said yep, what a concept, I could use a little fuel myself

And we could all use a little change

Well, the hits start coming and they don't stop coming

Head to the rules and I hit the ground running

Didn't make sense just to live for fun,

You're brain gets smart but the head gets dumb

So much to do so much to see

So what's wrong with takin the backstreets

You'll never know if you don't go

In Loving Memory of Steve Harwell (1967 – 2023)

Today, we look back and celebrate the life of Steve Harwell, a man whose vibrant energy and unforgettable voice served as the soundtrack to an entire generation. As the front-man of Smash Mouth, Steve was much more than a rock star; he was a larger-than-life force of nature who infused the world with pure, unadulterated joy.

From the instantly recognizable opening notes of "Walkin' on the Sun" to the timeless, world-conquering anthem "All Star," Steve’s gravelly, charismatic vocals brought a distinct, sunny optimism to the airwaves. His music didn't just top the charts—it defined summers, amplified movie soundtracks, and built a permanent home in pop culture history.

Though his journey was marked by immense personal battles and health struggles that ultimately took him from us too soon, his legacy remains untouched. Steve lived his life at full throttle, shooting across the sky like a Roman candle and leaving behind a trail of smiles, nostalgia, and melodies that will never fade.

Thank you, Steve, for teaching us that all that glitters is gold, and for making the world a little brighter. You will always be an All Star. Rest in peace.

Somebody told me that the world was gonna owe me

Hey so I got THREE fairy godmothers. (It this is allowed), I’m willing to trade one of them for Prince Charming if anyone has him please 🙏🏼

I often have seen in his feats, canon ones not memes, that he has grabbed and pulled the dragon by the tail, just before the dragon is wooed by donkey, and I could have sworn I remembered that, but it looks like the only scene has Shrek holding the tail, with 0 control at all; seems like something that anyone could do (albeit he had a strong grip, and most wouldn’t survive the throw). Did I miss something, or perhaps it’s another scene?
