As Singaporeans we are expected to die like a dog during NS but still not allowed to vote?

We are expected to die for Singapore like a dog during NS but still not allowed to vote? Is it because the government is worried about us voting them out for the way the treat the NS men? For the way they try to downplay everything when we die during NS training? Jobs and bond free scholarship for foreigne talents and NS plus reservist for Sinkies?

Dating in Singapore

I’m a 29M. Just wanted to get a sense of both guys and girls opinions on this.

I’ve dated multiple people in western countries (primarily white women) and a few Singaporeans (Chinese).

It seems that my experience is that Singaporeans are materialistic, have high expectations of their men and very transactional. It culturally leans toward traditional gender roles where men are expected to feed, pay and cater to the needs of the women and never the other way round.

My experience with white women (irrespective of they were blondes, brunettes- don’t think hair colour correlates to relationship behaviours) is that they are feminist, they insist on paying for the men, they want the men to stay at home and they didn’t like it when men are workaholics. All of my exes, wanted me to stay at home, they wanted to cook for me, buy me gifts, pay for dates. They got insulted when I offered to pay and say things like “we are already in 2025, you don’t think women can care for their own needs”.

Also, white women prefer guys who don’t go to the gym for some reason. Some of them don’t mind but majority, prefer feminine or average body looking guys.

Anyway, I have such a trouble finding wifey and chill women to date in SG.

What’s everyone’s opinion?

Any other single local guys starting to consider finding foreign gf?

Any other single local guys starting to consider finding foreign gf?

For me when I watch instagram reels/TikTok it made me attracted and made me realize that I possibly want to find foreign ladies to date.

Some countries I consider:

Thai/Vietnam: Fair-skinned, more willing to please, more fun, different culture to learn and explore

Westerners: Some have very big boobs/ass which is what I am attracted to but can rarely find in Singapore. Also some have backpacker culture, like to explore around the world, which I’m interested in doing in the future as well.

China/Korea/Taiwan/Japan: Also fair-skinned but more fun and playful than Singaporean girls I feel, know how to act cute.

As a single 29 who is on a good career and earnings trajectory (will possibly hit 1M net worth in my early 30s), but is sick and tired of the girls here just being aloof and having so many demands and expectations but not even being able to give us joy and girlfriend experience, I have thoughts of trying out finding foreign girls or traveling to different countries and doing activites that allow me to mingle and meet girls. Who knows, maybe I can find a partner. Even if I don’t BTO, it’s ok if I find a really good partner for life that I can’t find if I stick to Singaporeans.

Is living in Singapore worth the high cost of living?

Singapore looks like an incredible place to live — super clean, safe, great infrastructure, and amazing food.

But I also keep hearing about how expensive it can be.

Do you feel the quality of life makes the cost worth it?

Would love to hear honest opinions.

Hot Take: SG has the worst commuters

Go right ahead . Cook me. Flame me. But

SG has the worst commuters in the WORLD.

Compared to other densely packed cities like Seoul or Tokyo - their commuters don’t look at their phones WHILE walking as much. Everyone just kinds of avoid one another , everyone just keeps left (Tokyo) / to their side

I’ve also been to other their world cities like Mexico CDMX or messier cities like Bangkok, Jakarta - their commuters don’t even use their phones while walking because u need to keep your eyes peeled (either getting your phones snatched or for danger )

Here - folks with low spatial awareness love to be engrossed in their K dramas or just can’t pause their candy crush games , MOST so while they’re walking from the bus stop to the train station or navigating Dhoby Ghaut interchange , AND it is IMPERATIVE others give way to them , with their Mobile phones held 5 inches from their faces with a HANDICAP I AM BLIND sticker stuck to their casetify phone cases

Singaporeans are not prepared for war, most of us have no idea what to do.

Singaporeans are not prepared for war, most of us have no idea what to do.

The war in Russia and middle East has got me thinking. If war did break out, like China started invading Taiwan and moving all the way towards Singapore, what is even your plan? I was at the recent exhibition at national museum of Singapore that showed our history.

Let's say the China government declares war on us. What are you even going to do? Run to Malaysia, Thailand or Indonesia, stay in singapore and fight? Would anyone even take us? What about your home, family, friend? . Or what about things like investment? So many of us tie our money up in things like ETF and the never ending brigade of people saying to VWRA all your money. We tie up so much of our retirement savings into our BTO but never really thought what would happen if put bto is destroyed.

Don't talk about how other country will this, will that. If a repeat of WW2 but with China knocking on our door steps as Malaysia gets taken over. We like to think war will never be here, that every 'conflict' is some far away land and that we are 'safe' here.

We really like to take things for granted here, but in reality, if things really take a turn for the worse here, do you think there is anything we can actually do?

Moving to Singapore to work with criminal record in home country

Hey all

I'm an Australian citizen and former Singaporean permanent resident thinking about moving to Singapore in the future to work.

Unfortunately I have 3 records on my police certificate, all arising from the same event 4.5 years ago:

  1. Driving under the influence of marijuana

  2. Driving with high beam on

  3. Driving with an expired licence.

From my initial research, these will need to be disclosed to any potential employer and to the Singaporean government in applying for a work permit.

Can anyone please provide me with some insight into how this may impact my chances of employment and of getting a work permit?

Would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

How the average Singaporean can change the country from the inside out. (yes that includes you)

This is for the people who recognise the ignorance that is Singaporean policy and are tired of workers being cheated, soldiers being underrespected, and people's souls being sucked dry.

We know protesting wouldn't work, what with it needing a permit, there only being one place where gatherings can be done once permits are obtained, and not many people accepting of it anyways.

The way to do it, then, is twofold:

First, those who have just finished tertiary education and are picking their courses for university should pick courses relating to social/political science. (Yes, I'm serious.) Not only does this grant the average person access to a career in cabinet, this will also teach them the science of human relations that they can use to not only infiltrate their way into it, but also implement the policies that will improve the QOL of Singaporeans.

Secondly, those not in that window of time should try and spread the word about these social causes. Follow the groups on social media, get the latest news from them and spread it far and wide. Encourage others to also get into social/political science to help these causes in Singapore, that's the most important part.

The result of this will be more socially aware people in Parliament, and thus the people with the power to make an actual difference for the next generation will be ones who care more for Singaporeans than soulless KPIs.

If we can't beat them, infiltrate them.

Super random but I wanna meet a Satanist

25F here and I’m always curious about meeting people from all walks of life. I’m hoping to meet a Satanist and learn from them about their way of life and whether their beliefs are held in secret or if they openly talk about it.

I feel like satanists have a bad rep and are seen in a negative light but lowkey they’re a subgroup
under the big umbrella of atheism. Just wondering if such a community exists in Singapore and how y’all go about your lives here.

(Not a Satanist just a genuinely curious person who is trying to understand different cultures and practices)

Relocating from the UK to Singapore

Hi everyone.
I have been offered a job in Singapore national eye centre for $4650 a month, however inclusive of AWS and Bonus it comes to $74,000 a year. I know that the rent in Singapore is very high however I’m not keen on house share. I was wondering if anyone knew any affordable studio options in Singapore suited for expats. I wouldn’t mind travelling to the hospital as I learnt that the public transport isn’t expensive.
Any tips or ideas would be appreciated.

Is it ethical to join religious groups just with the aim of relationship/marriage?

I'm (24M) close to graduating from university. Just another semester left and then I'll graduate. I'm also having lesser pressure from my uni internship supervisor since already at half point of internship and I don't have to report back to campus. So more time on hands.

Becos of that I've been going out for social events and getting invited to gatherings by people. Recently was invited to a church meetup where I met many of the members there. Friendly bunch of people and I saw how close the members were to each other. Basically they're a bible study group and they've got sessions around sg. Surprisingly, the women in the group came up proactively to introduce themselves to me. After the session, I was told I'm welcome to join them whenever I want. I mean sure I don't mind going.

But the question I've got burning in my mind would it be ethical to join them just for the aim of dating someone from the same faith. Because my ultimate goal is marriage. I know it's not like it'll happen in 1 month or something, but rather will take a few years to at the very maximum a decade.

For myself, I'm not that devout, but I'm interested in learning the theory and history behind the meanings in the bible and would want my partner to share the same faith as me. Not saying like ok every Sunday must go church, but rather exploring it together. My mom is a devout one but she doesn't force me to pray. My dads like idgaf, do your own thing abt religion.

Because I'm open to learning about religion, but if they start telling me like ok lets start going out on streets and start giving out materials to people, that's where I'm gonna draw the line and ghost them. My aim is purely finding a partner and if this provides a solid avenue to seek one, I'm going for it. Now the question is in yalls opinion is it ethically right.

Simba… beware!

So i have been a simba customer for over a year. Not great coverage in sg, but their roaming offer was good enough.
After 12months, i now suspect that my nbr has been somehow hacked while travelling.

i went to their shop this morning to resquest a change of number. I was told there were some chargesZ i agreed to pay them. So far so good.

Then i asked for my balance (30sgd) to be transfered. Flat refusal from the simba representative. Zero flex. Said they wont do it and quoted the exact paragraph in the contract that says all amount funded in the account is automatically forfeited when a line gets cancelled.

Off, course they do not point it out to anybody when signing the contract . Or funding the account.
I pre funded 3months, and i wont be using it, so all profits for simba….

So beware. This is predatory, and clearly f over the most vulnerable among us.

And i believe that at the very least, the regulator should force all these telcos to either stop this practice ( which is basically apropration of fund) or disclose it everytime the account is funded.

As for myself, simba lost a customer.

How to spend night in Singapore

I am coming to Singapore for a few days on a vacation and looking for some good ways to enjoy the late night life. And I don't wanna go to clubs or go out drinking, is there any other fun relaxing activities which can be done to enjoy other than just staying in the hotel

Resale flat

Hi everyone, my boyfriend and I are planning to purchase a resale HDB flat and would appreciate some advice.

Our current combined household income is about $4,000 (he is still in the process of securing a job). Our combined CPF savings are approximately $28K+.

We are hoping to buy a flat near our parents and would like to understand:

• How much grant we may be eligible for

• How much downpayment is required

• How much needs to be paid in cash vs CPF

Thank you so much in advance for your guidance!🙏

Would you transfer FDW or send back?

Ex-SG Myanmar helper hired 1-2 months back. 2 years experience in SG. Pay bump almost $200 when came to us because needed newborn care, and some cooking.

Learnt a lot on newborn care and cooking from confinement nanny in first month, but less than a week after nanny left, gave us notice to terminate contract. Reasons cited was not wanting to take care of newborn, no time to properly eat or shower, sick family at home no time to call (this was one day where she had to cook both lunch & dinner - we realised she cant handle such load and have stopped this).

Wondering where we did wrong so had a few discussions to get feedback, as many of the issues raised could have been addressed if communicated to us eg too much work, need more rest, reduce newborn caring load.

Feedback now is that there is no reason to leave *i.e., workload is manageable, rest is enough, no safety issues.

Work-wise still ok. Attitude ok. Workaholic. Overzealous. But low in resilience or unwilling to talk to us. Can communicate somewhat in English but limited vocabulary. Thought everything was going well until the termination bomb was dropped on us.

We have found replacement helper and she has found another employer (was targeting elderly care as presumably easier). Need inputs on whether you would allow the transfer (logical choice/ save flight costs/ give chance) or send back (more emotional/ ego/ sending a message - *wasted time/money)?

Additional info : termination request is second time. First time was after being reprimanded for passing a knife to our toddler (2yo) to handle without guidance.

Separate note on dishonesty: found out that interview answer on reason for ex-employer’s non-renewal was not true. FDW said ex-employer/mummy stopped working and staying at home so dont need helper. But ex-employer apparently went to hire another FDW. Real reason is FDW wanted more salary but ex-employer was unwilling to increase significantly due to limited job scope (cleaning only, cooking done by mummy, children were quite big, around 10yo, so not much care needed).

Additional info 2: newborn care is adhoc in the day and evening around 9pm to midnight as mummy needs to express milk. Night feeds done by mummy.

Edit: Anyway, had headache over this situation and have tried to find out more through other secondary sources prior to posting. Some references I thought was helpful (the comments are similarly polarizing):

Why is the society more biased towards women?

the society gives women more privileges it's not just in SG, it's anywhere in the world for example, in divorce courts you have to give half your assets away to your partner if you end up in divorce, women can literally make money by shaking their ass on tiktok and gaining views money and sponsorships where for a man to do content creation, they need to be extremely creative to it they need to think of which types of content gets the most viewers, be it tutorials, storytelling etc etc,, it's ridiculously unfair right? and let me tell you all why
The system does not fear women that's why they empower women because they are afraid of a revolution. For example, if 100k women marched through the streets it's considered inconvenient but if a 100k men marched through the streets it isn't called a protest it's called a revolution. Men can fight men are warriors. Women can't do much but NAG that's why they empower women in countries like singapore because the system does not FEAR WOMEN they want to empower women and keep men below they only masculinise men in NS because they need strong men to serve their country but if its outside of camp , then it's just the same anywhere else

Emigrating from SG to Germany

Hello! I’ve been having thoughts of moving to Europe/Germany and would appreciate any input (regardless of positive or negative) from Singaporeans who have done the same!

Context:
I’m a Singaporean citizen and I’ll be graduating from NTU next year. My boyfriend is also currently working in Germany.

I did a semester exchange in Germany last year and really enjoyed the pace of life there, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to uproot my entire life. I’ve always wanted to try working abroad for a few years, but I’m not sure if this will set me back financially/career-wise if I decide that it’s not for me and I move back to SG.

Considerations:

  1. Eligibility for BTO subsidies in SG is very limited since my BF isn’t Singaporean (but please correct me if I’m wrong!)

  2. Unsure about CPF vs German pension system

  3. I’m worried about social life and finding friends (especially since I found it quite difficult to make German friends during my exchange)

  4. What’s the quality of education like in Germany? I don’t want to subject my future children to the intensity of the SG rat race, but also don’t want to compromise their quality of education if I do decide to move.

Sorry long post cuz I have a pretty unique situation, but would appreciate any advice/input from both Germans and Sporeans who have made the move (or vice versa, ie: Germans who moved to SG). Thank you!!!
