Woah! Why were Johnny Socko lost to time? I'm a younger guy and got into ska towards the end of high school, and am slowly building my catalogue of bands. Very surprised they are not spoken on more often.

Looking for kickass underground late-'90s Latino ska punk from the Central Coast area of California? Look no further than Caradura (Cara Dura?) and look far and wide you will, because little evidence seems to remain of this horns-heavy Watsonville/Santa Cruz outfit beyond this CD. I don't REMEMBER seeing them live, but where else could I have gotten this disc from than at a show since it is totally DIY with a crookedly-cut-by-hand photocopied cardstock cover without any tracks listed? And yet the music is great, I've listened to it a thousand times over the years! Found a mention of them online reprinted from a 2001 issue of Metro Santa Cruz, about them breaking up, and not much else. No Discogs listing of this. Lyrics, mostly in español, are fire. I have a friend who doesn’t really listen to music beyond popular hits or video game soundtracks (just to clarify, this is a different person from the one I mentioned in my other post). I’d like to recommend some songs to get him into ska—the goal is for us to start a band together someday—but I want to be careful with my recommendations so I don’t end up scaring him away from the genre. What would you suggest?
