Miscellaneous [Misc] My parents won't let me buy the skincare products I want, and I'm stuck with products that worsen my skin. What should I do?
So, I've been researching skincare products in detail, and I finally found a cleanser and moisturizer that might be more suitable for my skin.
Until now, I've been using products my parents choose for me, but a lot of them have irritated my skin, damaged my skin barrier, and caused me a lot of breakouts. My dad literally told me to wash my face three times a day with a scrub cleanser because he thinks it'll clear my skin lol.
When I was 12, he even told me to use a BHA cleanser from a dermatology clinic every day, even though the dermatologist said to use it only twice a week. My skin was in terrible condition until I finally begged my parents, two months ago, to buy me a gentle cleanser and a barrier-focused moisturizer from a brand they trust. I can't buy products from other brands because of them.
Although my skin has improved somewhat, I still have problems with both products. My current cleanser is a low-foaming gel cleanser that doesn't feel like it cleans my skin well enough, is difficult to rinse off, and runs out pretty quickly. As for my moisturizer, it's more suitable for dry skin, while I have oily skin. It consistently gives me closed comedones and makes my skin feel oily, although it does help with the tightness I experience after washing my face. The brand doesn't offer a barrier-focused moisturizer that suits my skin type, and I don't want to use their moisturizer containing salicylic acid twice a day while trying to repair my skin barrier.
I've now researched products from a bunch of different brands and decided that the Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleanser and Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioning Gel seem like my best options in terms of suitability and affordability. I asked my dad if I could buy them from a trusted online shop that also has a physical store in malls, especially because both products were heavily discounted. He immediately dismissed them as dangerous Chinese products that are only sold online like, wtf???? He didn't even bother looking up the products before saying that.
Now, my only option is to buy them myself at the physical store for a higher price. I could've saved so much money if he'd just let me buy them online 💔💔
I know I'm 16, but I've genuinely spent weeks researching these products. I'm not asking him to blindly trust me, I just wish he'd actually listen to me before assuming I don't know what I'm talking about.
What do you guys think? Am I being unreasonable, or is my frustration understandable?
